Thats what I love about ffxiv. He obviously does everything for the sake of humankind and to end all conflict by instilling a heavenly dictatorship. But his view conflicts with the idea of self governance, which the WoL and Scions are all about, so he knows they will oppose him. He was driven by principle so he did it anyway. Kinda like Thanos.
@@jamesultima6144 he did perpetuate a war he knew was false, resulting in tons of unnecessary death and misery. Thordan was definitely a bad guy, he was just surprisingly reasonable.
Not really you can tell from the conversation with Aymeric that he didn't want to continue the lies of the war and wanted to end it as well. We don't know how many men and women, old and young he saw die due to the dragons and how long he has been Archbishop for but we can tell that their deaths and the knowledge of what his ancestor did weigh heavily on him. That is why he wanted the primal power to completely end the war and establish true peace especially as the Ascians intend on sowing destruction. He is basically like Gaius who wants peace as well and the Warrior of Light even uses some similar methods to the two of them i.e. force to bring about peace yet there are some methods which divide them.

They almost definitely didn't have the unsundered as concept back then. The writers probably had a vague idea of what the Asians' backstory was going to be, but the details were foggy. And if they did, all the Red Masked Ascians were gonna be unsundered, but when they realized that they would have to spend another expac or 2 to kill them off, it was changed to only the three.

He used the power of a primal that's hardly a good thing
We fight the pope
So, basically, he says "I've become a Primal, which you hate, and we're gonna fight anyway, so come at me bro."

so much epicness...
Its a shame they didnt give Knights of the Round and King Thordan a bigger role.
What's a bigger role than the Main Villian(s)?
His role in the story as a primal was just way to short. would have liked to see him fight nidhogg
