@Heroduothecomedian thanks for your thoughts here, I am sure any kid who grew up with Thomas would find Chuggers a little bit over the top. But I see very young kids seem to pick up on Chuggers before Thomas. In a few years time I am sure there will be a army of Chugger loving kids.
I don't like the new 3D Thomas, mainly because I grew up watching the classic first stories done with models.
Those wind-ups sure do go fast!

@DJAvery1 thats a great idea, never thought of it. i would need to buy more capsules, in all the ones i grabbed i still only had 2 with wind up motors, james and percy
@P3pperjam Thanks, I try to pack in as much info into a short time as possible, I don't like wasting the audiences time. Hopefully they respect me for that.
Update, these Thomas Playrail are now $2, down from $3 when I made this video, I went and purchased a whole bunch more but still no Thomas.
From what I see the kids are more interested in Mario Kart toys.

@Mrthomaspercy2 I do, to tell you the truth here I may have all this up for grabs in a competition later on, seems to be lots of interest in this set.
@TheRManProds I have ( well my daughter has) a bunch of the mario stuff as well, it's a great toy as well except the heads keep falling off!

what i have noticed also with chuggers is they are priced well under thomas toys now, and their range is getting bigger. i did forget to mention the large chugger is not motorized but the impressive sound chip and the fact it interacts with other chuggers is very clever and brings a different style of play to the toy.
i dare say a 2 to 5 year old enjoys playing out their own actions and the need for a motor is not a real priority.

@thomasanddiesel thanks for your comment, as I have said many times I feel these TOMY windups are not the same quality as the series which have the siderods which I think are the Japanese style Tomy
They really look to me like a cheaper version and marketed to vending machines, I don't understand why the Henry model has no motor, that was silly to do.
As for price, well I feel it's expensive only difference is I have heaps of rolling stock in what I bought. Sooooooo may repeats!
2:21 , Percy lets off steam LOL! TOMY also made Japanese capsule trains which are only available in Japan. Both regular and capsule versions and I think you should review them even if you're not interested in Japanese bullet trains.
Wow they are sold in vending machines now? I had to buy mines from Japan, and I live in Europe!
@TheUnluckyTug1 Japan have these but they look to be a higher quality and much more selection than whats for offer here.
Knowing the Thomas empire I am sure they will hit the US in months to come, they are a new item for 2010
Henry is the best character despite his lack of a motor
Where i Live, my Vending Machine Didn't Have James, But it Have 4 Thomas's, 6 Percys, 5 Henrys, 3 Annies, 2 Clarabels, 5 Troublesome-Trucks, 2 Red Coaches, 3 Cattle Wagons, 2 Flatbeds, 4 Turntables, 3 Walking Bridges and 25 Track Packs.
@RobertMProductions whats a bit funny was I started out thinking I will try to get a Thomas for my little ( now large) Thomas collection, in the end I purchased so many I thought I better cover it as a video.
personally I would have thought the machine would be full of mainly Thomas, I was wrong.

the large chugger is really a well finished toy, it is around 20% larger (train body) size compared to the TOMY / Fisher Price / Trackmaster Thomas variant.
I can see chuggers are making sure all their toys do not suffer the model distortions which the thomas range has, and really the take and play are a classic example when you compare them to the ERTL's
this large chugger would as you suggest make a excellent O guage model.

i'm guessing you already know this, but if you wanted henry to have the wind up motor, why not switch it with a spare percy you have.

@TheThomasWoodenGuy They are actually lots of fun, maybe a tad expensive for what they are. I feel they make great collectibles if your into thomas.

I picked up 4 Henry's heaps of carriages BUT no Thomas. The price has dropped $1 so they are now $2.
I find the lack of Thomas in all of this really sad, as i know thats what the kids go fro. I bet if I emptied the machine again I would not find Thomas!
If I am feeling crazy enough I may do this and see if all this is set up as a small scam.

@MITCHELLtheC17 Hi, thanks for your comment. I had huge issues with the joins at the turntables and your right with a little knife work the track will join better. But it should work out of the box!
I am impressed with this toy, it really needs more curves in the overall system and points. All engines would have motors..! A Toby would be nice as well.

I think the open Wagon and turn tables are the best :)
Very entertaining video, those little trains sure do look neat and are a step up for vending machine toys next to the fake jewelry they usually have inside.
So that's the set those wind up engines go to. I have a Tomy wind-up Thomas that seems to be from the same line as the equipment in this video. I found it at a toy shop in Venice, Italy.

Wow! U spent $200 on buying alot of the Thomas capsules O_O Rather interesting little set there, shame they didn't have Thomas. Also at 2:22, sounds like Percy is letting off wind XD Such a naughty engine. Great vid there Leo ^^

I was thinking about these toys the other day as I had a thought about these as a toddler at what I think was the Adelaide Central Markets. While I was only lucky enough to have 1 (which I have lost), I am wondering whether those new ones are still with you?
@LBPStrikerInc Yes the Japanese version of this toy is i believe a far better toy. I found it strange Henry had no motor as well.
Dare say it's all about cashing in on the market, and it's always prudent to read the fine print in relation to the fact some are not motorized.

So far
A Thomas … the one and only … no wind up motor but it could be worse
A sad Percy . My personal favourite … just looks so sad like my god and yes he is a wind up so can move under his own strength
A cross James . He looks cool and is also motorised with a wind up motor inside to move
A Spencer . My only tender engine as of yet . And has a wind up motor too
And so far little track but it’s growing !
And one troublesome truck carrying logs . His front coupler broke but it got fixed real quick with a replacement I found lying about my room funnily enough it fit and holds good enough .
Finally a truck that can hold another engine . So that unpowered Thomas can be pulled about on the flatbed by another engine sayyy James or whatever ?
So far I am trying to get a happy Percy , Annie & clarabel , more track & gordon .

@EuanEchidhog i dare say the guy who owns this vending machine must be wondering why the thomas stock is soooooo popular, i just wish he had loaded a few Thomas's in there
It is a nice set, more so because of the cute factor and it is just like a miniature TOMY / Trackmaster. Getting the $200 in coins was a battle and I never set out to buy out the whole machine, lets just blame the hunt for Thomas on that one.

Very interesting, Leo. As an O Gauge Modeller, I think that large Chuggington toy could possible run on O Gauge track using the same method that you use for converting your Ertls/Take Alongs to HO Track. Also, might I add, I've seen this website somewhere wher a guy converted all of his Tomy windups to N Scale. I'm not sure if you'd get into N scale, but just giving you a little tidbit of knowledge. Lovely video once again, ver impressive.

You know what's strange? I have one two of these found in the US! I have no idea where I got them. They are Percy and Diesel 10. Percy has siderods like in the Japan line. Does anyone know where these could be from?

@sixbluewheels lets say if I did not buy out a while vending machine I would have struggled to make a layout. and it all started with me just trying to nab a little thomas for my collection
@B12E2 Those Tiny TOMY with siderods are I dare say the Japanese variants, and correct thats what this toy is lacking. I believe these are not the same quality of build as the Japanese TOMY windups. The fact Henry is totally lacking in the windup department is i feel stupid to have happen.

@Nictrain123 Yes I believe it is, BUT this range does not have the wheel details or overall finish the Japanese tiny TOMY range has. That Japanese TOMY range is amazing.

Leo you could make henry powered get an extra percy and unscrew underneath percy and henry then just swap the wheels around plus henry does have a gap in him.

@timelordthetrain a budget, well now. i started out just trying to grab a Thomas for my collection, in the end and to my frustration I bought the whole vending machine out
it was a moment of madness, and i still have no Thomas..!

@TidmouthMasterJacob i believe the series with the side rods is the Japanese tomy series, sadly the ones i have are lacking in the quality department. The Japanese series has all engines as wind up's
