Chuggington Die Cast Mega Review

- A detailed look at a very special double set which is a Target exclusive containing Training Yard with Loop & Wilson Gets a Wash.
This amazing double pack only cost me $55.20 for 64 pieces! I also have a good look over the dynamic duo Hoot and Toot.
Chuggington 'Die Cast' toy trains are very similar to the Thomas and Friends Take Along's (Take-n-Play). I have my very first look at the Chuggington Die Cast track system and uncover some alarming discoveries. This track system has some great cross compatibility and features not found in other toy train track systems.
I'm pretty sure the Thomas and Friends army will be secretly impressed with the Training Yard with Loop, it's a really fun playset to have and really adds some excitement to the toy train environment.

I can't help but say this but at 15:57 I think Thomas thought "I must go, my railway needs me." XD
Also at 12:45, It must be a great feat for Spencer to turn around in mid air and reconnect to his tender like that.
15:57
12:45
That scene with thomas also made me cry with laughter he was sub orbital
A flying Thomas (15:58-16:03) LOL! My dad loves the slow motion with the trains jumping off the ramp. LOVE THIS STUFF!
yes, there are some aspects to the chugger track I like, it's good for high speed play and excellent for Hot Wheels / Matchbox cars
7:15 funny
Crikeys is weird
@Leokimvideo 4:40 Hank’s tender is facing the wrong way
I get so much joy from watching your older videos
Slimey nomnomz
)
That chugger who got launched first was like:
"Hey this is fun! WOAHMYGOD!!!!!!!"
That was Koko
Even better with a loop!
9 years and I’m your only like...
Don't count on any Awdry characters which have never appeared on TV before ever appearing in the series, in it's current state. They are missing many fan favourites like Duck at present too.
Amazing research Leo. I have to admit as a Thomas fan, the Chugginton sets do look rather fun and I agree about toys in Australia being expensive. I went shopping with my mum this afternoon just for some Christmas shopping and I found the Dieselworks set at Target for about $70.00! I found one at a different Target for about $50.00. But aside that, the Chugginton track reminds me of the old ERTL play sets back in the 90's. Anyway, hope your family have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year ;)
Nice job Leo!
Dart: AAAAAAHHHHHHH!
Spencer: STUPPPPIIIDDDD TENDER!
Duck: CHAO MOTHA TRUCKERS!
@thomasmodelseries i would have much preferred the joined Hoot & Toot, I was a little surprised to find them as a separated pair
Hoot and toot are also called shunting engines, and they are joined back to back
@martin0mac2000 from the Hot Wheels tubers I now know they tell me that car launcher has not changed in many years and all agree it's a very noisy item, there are two changes needed here
first to make it quieter and second have it supplied with a rechargeable battery pack, and possibly the same goes for the chuggers train launcher
I loved watching your videos when I was 6 In 2013 and 2014
16:24 R.I.P Diesel 10
@HotShotOmega i tell you what the heavier one piece take n play's love this loop track, the new light weight ones don't have the weight behind them, i never knew Toby could fly!
What is a Crikeys Leokimvideo DUDE
@simierski I have lost count of the Thomas fans who say to me Duck is a fav. I had the idea they cleared the decks of a bunch of green characters, Boco, Daisy and Duck are all green.
I do see the Thomas crowd go to great lengths to have each new character have it's own visual identity, in particular colour scheme. Possibly Hank and Belle are the most similar from the new characters of late in terms of colour.
And for the USA tubers, color, for some reason our colour has a U in it..!
@Motoskichimo1974 personally i feel the Hot Wheels aspect to this playset is the winner here, it really does change the way your play with your fav train
@trainguy111 well it would want to be a massive improvement on what they did to Thomas!
@ejcmoorhouse Cripping is when your "chilling" so hard that the word "chilling" just doesn't cut it!
that word had me looking up the meaning, it's one i had never heard of, and you do learn something new every day
Same music for diesel 10
12:33 Duck’s model is Take Along, not Take-n-Play.
@demarm1 hate to say it, that loop set is a must have item, i had loads of fun with it
Heh the second I saw Spencer get ready for the loop I said "Spencers ****ed" :) This video was a real trip down memory lane; it made me think of quite a lot of Hotwheels products from yesteryear; one in particular I had was the Scorcher Chamber :) Hotwheels used to have these motorized car's you charged up via a charger and then let loose on the track; they were known as XV racers. Other sets I didn't have but spring to mind include Volanoe Blow Out and Criss, Cross, Crash; wish I had 'em :)
15:58 Thomas: I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE XD
15:58
Fun Fact: Tomy and RC2's Learning curve brand made both Thomas and Chuggington toys only the Thomas ones got recalled for lead paint, not the Chuggington ones, and Ludorum was founded by the people who worked at HiT Entertainment which includes the people that did Thomas, and Chuggington did not rip off Thomas, because they're both from the UK
i wish that chuggington (and thomas and freinds now) would make more playsets like wilson gets a wash because it really has a railway theme and is better than a training yard with loop, in my opinion.
The clip of Thomas being thrown off the playset at 15:59 has me on the floor every time. How can that even happen considering the deign of the track and booster piece? haha
Leo, my 2 yr old loves watching your reviews! And with this one I am tempted to go out and get this set I like it very much and believe we will have loads of fun crashing the trains
Wonderful video! My son loves these reviews. I love the audio and video work you put into these reviews. Very professional.
@ryan21hw ok, they were the old 70's HST's in the books..?? Very similar to the trains here in Oz called XPT's which still run around but are looking very old..lol
I bet if Thomas is looking for a fresh makeover we will see these very important characters from the later books appear, now that would be a welcome change for all.
Dash and Bash really never cut it for me or my son.
@tassie742 lol, you did better than me, mind you I rushed in thinking it would be easy. The loop set is marked really clearly on the back of the track very similar to how Hot Wheels do it via CAPITAL LETTERS, A - A, B - B. C - C and so on, also the loop set has all custom track.
One thing for sure is if you loose the instructions your stuffed trying to build Wilson gets a wash!
My son has it to play with now, I wonder if he will use it like his Thomas Take n Plays
I don’t like how Leo obsesses over Diesel 10.
@PixxyLixxx i love your guitar reviews, and all this keeps me out of trouble
rock on
@oldspice671 thats interesting as I found them being apart looked odd, to me they look fantastic as a joined pair
Great review Leo. But there is one other problem I found with the Chuggington track. One of the big play apeals that I find at least is the creativity. With all the other types track that you mentioned and lots more besides, you can use all of the pieces. If you run out of straights then you put in a squigaly bit to substitute.
Im 17 years old already then I suddenly got this from my head. Brings me back memories but now, I have no idea this gets more DISLIKES holy crap.
Yeah the amount of dislikes on this video is ridiculous
16:01 WHOA!!!! That was extreme!!!!
16:01
I know the song from 0:00 - 0:49. It’s the music that plays during cake at stake in BFDI 15.
Holly crap your right
4:41 you got hanks tender the wrong way
@dshaynie if Flynn is sold as a take n play, why is he so large them!
@TrainzXtreme especially the retailers in Australia, if they spoke it may reveal the exact reason why
silence is golden
@myoldreteacher the key to making big easy money on youtube is if you can produce really popular content in a very short time, sadly i have found pulling this off is far easier said than done
also i think many people watch videos and don't really understand the time which is needed to make them, lots of tubers get frustrated that I don't upload many videos, hopefully they will know why now
@NWR1991 the take n play dieselworks is strangely overpriced here in Oz, but we just have live with it and the big shops know that, difficult to know exactly where to pin point the blame for the savage overpricing here
You have the best reviews. Keep up the great work!
Hoot and Toot its like Bill and Ben the two trouble making engines
It's not a "Bizarre enjoyment" - It's called a hobby! 'Bizarre enjoyment' would be something involving watching animals copulate with a box of tissues in hand. These review videos you make are fun, informative and hugely enjoyable to watch, and no doubt in posting them you are getting a little back in ad revenue from Google (well, I would hope enough to cover the cost of buying these sets you review). THANK YOU for your amazing hobby Leo and another great video!
Would the 2015 Thomas Take N Play, Adventures, or Trackmaster Push Along models fit on the Training Yard With Loop set?
Here's a Tip: 2010 is Way Better Than 2015!!!
as with SkarloeyRailway01 pip and emma in the rws were also passenger trains but both girls . this is actually the first time I have seen a mix of boy and girl .
- Mighty Mac - boy
- bill and ben - boy
Harry
11:31 I think these are lampposts or streetlamps.
i pick up too boxes full of this chuggington track and it took me a while to make a track using all the pieces
You have engaged my curosity, and also my love of pulling things apart!
Maybe time to break out the drill/Dremel/Security bit set and see why the hell these gadgets are so dam loud!
(I can hear the chuggington one, over the Hot Wheels one)
@josephmlong thats a great question, but it's very difficult to explain, you see no one on the retail side wants to speak about it. recently IKEA in Australia was found to be charging sometimes three times the amount for a identical item which was sold in the USA, even though the product was made in countries just above Australia
i assume we have been suckers for years with high pricing and it just became the norm, to be honest I feel everyone here is sick of the rip offs going on
Another great review, keep up the good work Leo.
I think Toby fits in well
Don’t give up! You can do if you try enough!
@Kraigerex1 i use mirrors a lot of the time, and yes the secret is out
@1mymm and also the way to tell hoot from toot is the male one has a "male" connector and the female one has a "female" connector
Have you tried testing Disney Pixar Cars diecasts on the track?
11:31 these look like the sacks of mail and the grabbers that held them up during the training exercise In Brewster goes bananas
The reason you couldn't find the joint version of hoot and toot is because in Australia and Europe they were only available seperately and joined in other parts of the world
Love the green Dodge Superbee HW car you have. Great review Leo, I look forward to the next one! :D
@Designandrew i use a very inexpensive slow motion camera made by Casio, i better do a video about them as I am asked this all the time now
There was an episode that Hoot and Toot were divided, Leo. Though they should have at least come in a two pack! Great Review! I'm definitley getting more Chuggington!
Lionel FasTrack curved pieces work both ways which is really nice.
@penninefilms in my review of 7 wooden railway sets I did a short time back the last few sets in that reviews represent the most expensive I have paid, when you start cracking the $200 mark for a toy train you expect to be getting something special, what I ended up with was something which really did not impress me
Fail Reel is BAD
the grey one was cool 12:43
TakeTheseLz his name is Spencer.
@TheDalekdave well done, have a great Christmas, not long to go now!
@DTChapman1 You can do that with all the other Track but with the Chuggington Die cast track you can't do that sort of the. You find that your layout is not as big as you wanted it to be and you still have a load of track left over. Anyway, merry Christmas from a very cold Britain and I can't wait to see you in 2012.
@mobob599 Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country in the Southern Hemisphere comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans
Also to add to your Hoot and Toot comment, I think they're more like the Railway Series characters Pip and Emma. ;)
I need those hoot and toot toys!!!
@trainguy10033300 i stumbled across the mega bloks Diesel by accident, and now I find he is a little difficult to find
i always see Thomas mega bloks and recently I found a Toby, the Toby actually looks pretty good because of his block design
I miss good ol' chuggington.
Sweet childhood, i want it back, nice video, happy holidays.
@leokimvideo That would be good it seems to handle low light well and provides very smooth slow motion footage. I've tried using things like "twixtor" in adobe after affects but with little success. Also if for some reason you have two minutes spare and want to look at any of my videos, I'd recommend "local galaxy"- it's less than 2 mins, and if you do watch it please leave a comment so I know you did! Thanks keep up the good vids.
I remember watching this when I was 11 and 12
Hoot and Toot seem more like Bill and Ben.
I agree with you
+t&ffan 3000 what about Donald and Douglas
NATHAN REVIEWS well Donald and Douglas are the sensible twins
+t&ffan 3000 actually mighty mac
+ThomasTankEngine76 and Annie and Clarabell
You can clip of the traction rods of the trackmaster
@NWR1991 my best research agents is my very young son and daughter, they soon shows me the good and bad things with these toys, kids see this stuff totally differently to adults
@tidmouthmilk12 normally train sets are pretty simple, especially when it's a toy designed for 3 year olds
I miss 2011 leokimvideo so very much
12:46 thats one way to change the direction of the train
Did you know that megabloks now makes Chuggington toys?
@scoobsterinc because of the internet and social networking we in Australia are now well aware that toys here are so much more expensive than the UK and especially the USA
having a very strong Oz dollar has not dropped the prices on toys, in fact if anything they continue to rise
i'm pretty soon the bubble is going to burst on the pricing of good in Australia considering our dollar has been strong since 2008 and these toys tend to come out of China
I used to have that loop set
My Flynn works on Chuggington die-cast track
It’s pronounced as chug wash not train wash
@Zaphodraptor i'm trying to give Duck back the life he has lost!
2:47 Nice move, Spencer.
In reply to your Hoot and Toot/MightyMac question, yes and no. Mightymac are cheeky, but they quarrel more than play jokes, and they're always stuck together. To me, Hoot and Toot are more similar to the Bill and Ben pair.
I quite enjoyed the review. The new Chugger track's.. different, and the hot wheels brought back good memories for me.. ahh
Also enjoyed the bit at about 16 minutes in- who needs a jet engine when you've got a battery-powered wheel-thingy? :P
Toy prices across the world are bad now but I agree when you say autstralia gets the worst because when I went for a holiday I wanted to buy my nephew a toy and it was almost double the price then in UK
The newer stacktrack is more improved over this style of track, as curves do work both ways from what I remember. (I have a set but haven't touched it for soooo long I don't remember much about it.
You can also buy hoot and toot joint together
@ryan21hw are they joined like Hoot and Toot?
I'm guessing this is before track master 2
3:53 easy fix, just remove the side rods and make it look like an aeg character
That is what I call good quality for good price.
Now hosted, great fun.
The intro is so funny!
@deathstarman1 i just did a currency converter on your Dieselworks price
24.99 GBP = 39.0834 AUD
or
24.99 GBP = 38.7913 USD
so thats a excellent price, why am I always getting ripped off.
the Dieselworks set is only worth 30 something dollars, it's tiny.
Don't worry Leo. Certain toys are very time consuming and annoying. I think I have allready mentioned this before but oh well. A cobi Doctor Who set which I got for christmas took me four hours to build due to certain pieces being unable to stay together.
Tidmouth Milk I know that problem
@BENTlego but Thomas is always number one!
