    Hey everyone! Since Bojack Horsema just ended, I wanted to revisit the first ever Bojack Video that I did. This video holds a special place on the channel, so I thought it would be good to send the show off in meaningful way. Also, a completely new video on Season 6 is coming out soon!

    • @bradhorowitz2765
      @bradhorowitz2765 Рік тому +22

      There’s a few ways to look at it: 1)it’s purely for fun. Fans who pay attention to the Easter egg will get a kick out of it. 2)the fact that Todd’s rock opera isn’t on the list shows how little Bojack actually cares about the ppl he ruins. Todd is alaways put down by Boajck, as Todd even said “you can’t keep apologizing and acting horribly after.” 3)I personally think the lizards were in AWE of the monologue. We see a lizard crying after his speech is done. I think they were so caught up by his speech and confused why a horse was there. Does Boajck really think this was a bad act because Of his depression? I think the monologue was positive.

    One point to make about Beatrice's refusal to watch Horsin' Around...before the end, when she is fading badly, she *does* watch the show. She is unable to recognise Bojack when she sees him, but she knows it's him on the DVD. This ties into two theme - one, that Bojack finally gets what he wanted - his mother watching the show, but at the expense of her not understanding when he's actually there. Second, it mirrors the way that Bojack eventually loses track of distinction between TV and life later in the season.

    • @FlinnyWinny
      @FlinnyWinny 4 роки тому +137

      It's also to reflect that she never GENUINELY hated the show. She built up walls and drove both of them apart on purpose, most likely because of what happened to her mother when she loved her brother "too much".

      Don't forget the music playing in that scene. There's a record player in the background and the music is very warped and garbled at first. There's no clear melody or even feel, is it a sad song? A fun song but the record's scratched?
      Then young Bojack takes a drink and the music sounds like regular music and it makes sense now.

This is shown by the finale episode we don’t get a neat ending tied with a bow it isn’t forced even when the show ends we know in some world their lives continue because their issues were never resolved all you can truly have are the moments that connect you to one another to make up life because your stories will continue it will never be resolved.

    The fact Bojack quotes what his mother said about his father’s death is a highlight of mine. He realizes that even though his mother was nothing but demeaning, her death just made everything seem to go even more downhill. It’s got to be one of his lowest points in the show. 10/10 episode, it almost made me cry since I wasn’t expecting an episode with such a title to become one of my favorites.

    It is so weird that after reading so many Reddit threads and watching so many UA-cam videos about that episode, not once did I see anyone compare it to Albert Camus's Stranger. "Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don't know." is one of the best lines in literature, and i think Bojack Horseman in general, but especially this episode, has huge references to Camus' absurdist philosophy. I've been filtering my grief over my own father through this monologue. One of the things I sent to my friends that day was "everything is infinitely worse now". I used the Becker speech to explain that now that dad's gone he'll never be proud of me and we'll never be close even though we had all the pieces, we just couldn't do it. The seething anger I feel because I was his fucking daughter, he was the only parent I could really count on because Jesus Christ who knows when mom's gonna relapse he was all I had and he just couldn't take his fucking medicine.

    I think the themes of "Free Churo" help create the end of the final season I feel it the moment of Beatrice dying that BoJack realized that it was him who was making terrible decision's though in previous seasons BoJack would have slight moments of clarity and especially when Todd called him out and when in the beginning of season five BoJack was trying to curtail his drinking on his own. So Beatrice leaving the scene with open scars made BoJack spiral because he saw so much of himself in her and her nihilistic approach to life.

    Season 5 was amazing and this episode blew me away. For an animated character to keep you not only engaged but enthralled for such a long monologue was an absolute credit to the writers. I suspect that the writing on this show didn't get the credit it deserved from certain groups simply because it was animated.

    The fact that this video is shorter than BoJack's monologue

  • @BellyThatProductions
    @BellyThatProductions 2 роки тому +2

    I also like the aspect that is underrated but I feel is just as important to the episode. Bojack spends the entire episode monologuing about his Mother's death in Free Churro for 20 plus minutes, but when the episode finally ends, it turns out he was at the wrong funeral entirely. I think it is the absolute cherry on the cake. Beatrice wasn't even "seen" in her death, and while he's still attached to his mother, there is that complete disconnect. And it reminds me of what Todd said about Herb's death in season 2 when Bojack had Herb's name misspelled on a plaque for an Orphanage, "Ya know, Herb would find it pretty funny that you couldn't even do this right." and I feel the same rings true for Bojack going to the wrong funeral for his own mother.

      It also kinda highlights one of the core tragedies of Bojack, that as badly as he wants to be seen, he DOESNT see, not really. He doesnt see others feelings, or needs, or the damage he causes. He is so wrapped up in himself he doesnt even notice he's at a funeral full of lizards, just like on a regular basis he doesnt see outside himself to have a concept of his effect on other ppl. His sole focus on HIS OWN pain, and his pain alone, is what makes him such an asshole.

    This feels a lot like Breaking Bad's "The Fly" episode. When I first saw this episode just now, that's what immediately popped into my head. I knew immediately it had to be the best episode of the series. I haven't finished the series yet, but I don't know if there's anything coming up that can top "Free Churro" for me.

    • @candicefrost4561

      No that seems to be a theme through the whole series that are a pretty fundamental part of the show. His trip when he is trying to write his own book (when he was mad at Diane’s version) showcases drowning, and there are other drowning references throughout (especially with the Ophelia imagery ascribed to Sarah Lynn, like the painting above her bed in the episode where she and Bojack go in the bender that kills her). There are other videos about the drowning imagery/symbolism on UA-cam that you might enjoy. 👍
