Do you know how many MASTER mechanics would just throw their hands up and say "DONT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS" but charge hundreds of dollars to diagnose a problem.Ive been watching your videos for awhile now.You have extensive diagnostistic knowledge and abilities.Your a bulldog when it comes to solving tricky auto issues. And I get the impression your an honest guy..Man I wish you were located in my city.No one else would touch my car.
Thanks for this, I have a RAV4 with the same problem coming in next week for repair. I had already done the same tests with the scantool PIDs with the same results, so I could not justify replacing the range switch. I did not however think to check the sports PID. I almost bet I will be able to clean and refit that unit and solve the problem. You got a like and a sub from a very old tech in New Zealand.
Hi Sir, you do really have the best than perfect approach to diagnosis to go direct to the issue with an impressive high quality repair verified with supportive Data on the scanner. keep up the good work eventually major success to you and your family. thank you
I get the same exact problem with my 4runner. About every other year I start getting that P0705 code. I just remove the center counsel & blow out the shifter box with compressed air. It's amazing how much dog fur & stuff get down in there.
Honda dealership would of tried changing all the hoses and charged $1000 for such, then gave you back the vehicle knowing it wouldn't fix it. Then told you it was a bad engine and tried selling you a used one. This happened to me before, ever since that I became a do-it yourself mechanic using UA-cam videos to help me figure everything out and fix my own car. I should of sued them, but I think the alternative route I took saved me much more money long term.
Thanks for this video. My 2016 Rav4 threw this code. It is 80k and clean inside. It's been driving fine but besides the CEL the display would always show "D" with the shifter over in sport/manual mode. I decided to check this rather than dive into the sensor. Exactly the same thing. A few taps with a small screwdriver and it popped out. Thank you so much. This saved me so much time and frustration.
Just did this to my 2012 Highlander before doing anything else for a P0705 code and my CEL went away after cleaning the sport shift button. Thanks for the video.
I had this code on my Nissan Versa but it cleared out after a couple of days. My conclusion is that when I shifted into drive with the car still moving, it didn't allow the tcm to figure out what position the shifter was moved into. My tip, make sure you come to a complete stop before changing gears! Most transmission shops in my area "will not touch a Nissan vehicle with a 10 foot flagpole".
My experience on a P0705 code on a fiat Punto 2004 petrol 1.2 16v CVT speedgear. I searched a lot for the cause, I disassembled and cleaned the speed range sensor but the code was still there. Finally a video on this breakdown on a toyota directed me to the taillights. I discovered an oxidation of the connector on the ground. I removed the oxidation and the fault disappeared.
Thank you brother! I've been going crazy with this stupid thing, the NSW was on all the time but I would have never looked at the pid if it wasn't for you

I’ve replaced many Mercedes Electronic shifters when I worked at the dealer! Germans weren’t too wise, let’s install a cup holder right next to the shifter😂
Can't thank you enough for making this video. I had the same exact problem on my 2019 4Runner. The sport mode switch had already reset itself but the code had been set and couldn't be cleared without a scanner. I took care of this problem with a purchase of a $35 scanner and didn't have to take it into the shop where I'm sure they would have charged me hundreds if not thousands.
Had the same problem with my 2012 lexus gx460. I sprayed it down with mass air flow sensor cleaner , did the trick , came back a year later did the same thing and topped it off with WD-40 seems to be working fine now
Hey there Oscar! Great troubleshooting! I'm hunting down the 705 code and replaced the range sensor and have a clean tight connector and now will check the 4D 2L switch (sport mode) on my Tacoma. On this car was there a S and D light on the dash? My Taco has D and 4 lights that work and wondering if the switch is good. Toyota wants me to replace the harness @ $4600! I should do the test to see if I get 2 signals at once like you. Thanks!
Wow you are fantastic at what you do!! OZ. What needs to be done to fix my 2011 Camry XLE 2.5. Transmission slips for a brief moment when shifting from first into second when cold.
I have a P0705 code and my shifter is very stiff. 2016 4Runner It started intermittently last winter and then went away all summer but now it’s back and won’t go back to normal. When I shift it in to Drive it’s stiff and doesn’t register the “D” on the dash. It registers park, Reverse and Neutral but not Drive and it also no longer registers tiptronic sports mode. Because it’s stiff do you think it’s the actual shifter and probably not the PRNDL sensor?
Hello, why sometimes it hard to pull gear stick from "P" to "R" and sometimes perfectly ?! maybe there is some kind combination before stoping the car in parking ?!
Had this issue on a 2018 Camry. It was at the dealer and they put a new range switch and it didn't fix the issue. Vehicle got towed to me and I took the center console out and I found that the shift light connector is wet. I cleaned it out with some crc electric cleaner and the car is back to normal. Toyota wanted to charge the lady $1700 for a new shifter with labor
Hi my car it toyota camry 2010 . When i use sport mode i just drive a little bit it automatic change to the D mode. And it show the P0705 error like the video too. I try change the sensor on the trainmission already. Do you know what problem is it. Thanks you for your help.
Is it possible that cleaning the gear box/shift box (whatever it's called lol) would have solved the problem and the sensor didn't even need to be replaced?
If it were stuck in sport mode all the time, I wonder how it still shifted normally? I would think the driver would need to manually shift the gear if it were in sport mode.
Another possibility: Water intrusion / corrosion / grounding issue in the backup bulb / tail lamp assemble wiring harness causing that code. Replace the two backup bulbs
my car drives and shifts but backup lights and reverse camera don’t work replaced the part but issue wasn’t resolved and it was literally a 7.5amp fuse that was completely missing from the cabin put in a new one everything ok
My 2019 corolla has the same code Cant start the car cant crank I checked the shifter everything's good, beep and indicator message comes on the instrument cluster when i move the shifter away from P But I ran a check on diagnostic tool and the data show all PRND are in OFF status even though i tried playing with the gear lever and the shift lock on the gearbox, the shift lock have connectivity on all different positions when tested with multimeter But futhur test found out there are no current supply from the supposing supply RED wire of the shift lock socket But I tried to trace the RED wire but it goes all the way to the front of the engine and I lost focus and motivation on trying to fix my own car I scare the red wire might lead to under the manifold or the alternator
Oz.. I have a question that has nothing to do with this video, but based on you expertise I need you thoughts on a problem I have. I just replace the whole AC system on my 06 focus and I mean replace everything, but the problem I have is that the AC blows cold air while driving around, but when I hit a red light or just idle it blows warm air until I start moving again... is there anything I need to check or do to fix this issue?
Good evening Henry. I replaced the NSS in this video because when I performed the test as explained on the video it showed it to be the problem. Without doing proper test I wouldn’t replace the sensor
I have the same issues except it's only with sport mode when shifting from sport back to drive it doesn't change it stays in sport till switched back in neutral then code pops up

I just got this code I’m going to try this method and get back to you.
Grateful for the intel 🚗🙌🏼
It's amazing what a little research can reveal. I found this video to be very informative. Thank you for publishing it.
For others failing your fix - depending on the circuit design just clip or ground out the Sport wire.
Thank you! I had the same issue with a 2010 Toyota venza.

I have this same issue I think. Was it having a crank no start? No videos have said the reason for the repair?? Crank no start or just no crank?
Thank you very much for your very well explained video.
Lol at the outtakes at the end! Good video, great diag skills truly.
Thankz man, love when other mechanics trouble shoot so I don't have too 😅.
Very educational as usual. Thanks for the video.

Another possibility: Water intrusion / corrosion / grounding issue in the backup bulb / tail lamp assemble wiring harness causing that code. Replace the two backup bulbs
That’s what I thought at first. I watched scanner Dan Rea video a day before this and nope.
my car drives and shifts but backup lights and reverse camera don’t work replaced the part but issue wasn’t resolved and it was literally a 7.5amp fuse that was completely missing from the cabin put in a new one everything ok
My 2019 corolla has the same code
Cant start the car cant crank
I checked the shifter everything's good, beep and indicator message comes on the instrument cluster when i move the shifter away from P
But I ran a check on diagnostic tool and the data show all PRND are in OFF status even though i tried playing with the gear lever and the shift lock on the gearbox, the shift lock have connectivity on all different positions when tested with multimeter
But futhur test found out there are no current supply from the supposing supply RED wire of the shift lock socket
But I tried to trace the RED wire but it goes all the way to the front of the engine and I lost focus and motivation on trying to fix my own car
I scare the red wire might lead to under the manifold or the alternator
Thank you...
You rock dude
Where don you get your schematics ?
I need help taking the shifter apart and cleaning it. Can you do a video cleaning the shifter?
Just remove part n wash thoroughly with a 3000psi pressure washer. Install immediately.
