I was raised around Porsche (dad worked for Porsche for over 35 years) and I learned to drive stick on an '86 944! The car was 11 years older than me, but it handled better than I had expected. Tough clutch and I do not recommend for anyone who hasn't already driven old sports cars, but certainly a blast for those of you who revel in the performance of that era.

Man you made me want a Porsche now. Question about 944 can you tune the stock turbo to pull more power without doing internal mods? If so how much more power can you tune on a stock setup other than exhaust and intake
I know this Porsche isn't cheap, but 996 turbo is also a great car that you can drive while making money. My dad got it around 33-36k, and sold it in the middle 40k while having alot of fun with it
I would probably buy the cayman because it can be a good daily driver, it has got 410 ml space to put things in, it's fast cool cheap confortable and it doesn't use too much gasoline

I wouldn’t say I’m anywhere near an expert, but I will say this. If you decide to get an old 944/924/928, they are not bad. Since the 928 was supposed to be luxurious and the flagship car over the 911, Porsche put a lot of time and money into it, so it rides really nice, performs well (it can put a lot of super cars of its time to shame), and looks well. The 944/924 are basically the same in terms of engine, and they are pretty good as well. Since there are a lot of Porsche enthusiasts, and because their issues are so well documented, you can ask anyone who works on the older ones a good amount or you can ask/look at the forums, and you’ll get a pretty definitive answer.
What’s going to go up in value that’s cheap, reliable, and tons of fun? The 987.2 Cayman and Boxster. They’re the last affordable analog Porsches with no IMS issues and no known reliability / recall holes. Heck: The 7-gear PDK put into these starting in 2009 was essentially used as-is for a decade. Hydraulic steering? Check. Six cylinders of glorious sound? Check. No annoying nanny software? Check. Of course you still get stability control (PSM) and some of the best brakes on the planet. Necessary options? I suggest the Xenon headlights and either the Bose sound or at least SPP.
I have a 86 944 but unfortunately it's not the turbo but it's still fun to drive just don't try the 0-60 but once it gets going the handling is impeccable
the 944 Turbo wasn't built between 1982 and 1991. The reugular 944 came to the US in 1983 and was sold until 1989. The Turbo came out in 1986 and was only imported in to the US until 1989. So you can get a 1986-1989 944 Turbo. They are getting very expensive. With mild modifications you can get 350 HP no problem.
Finally! A video from this channel that says nothing but facts! BTW, I live at the border of Texas and Mexico and here porches on the fb market are a couple grand less than the prices here 😳
There's also the 2011 Panamera which is luxurious and sporty. You can find them for 25,000-35,000 dollars. Not really that cheap but cheap enough than a newer one that goes for like 50,000-100,000 dollars.

That Cayman looks like a fun car to own. But I think I will always wonder what it would be like to own and drive the 911. So I’ll tell you when I buy my 911.
Way back in the 80s-90s I owned 4 Porsches. Two 944T, a 944, and a 911. All I sold for more than I paid. So I drove Porsches for basically free for a decade😂
The Cayman is the best budget option IMO. because of the exterior styling and the 2-seats, it’ll always be a desirable option, but since they’re not quite aged into “classic” territory, you can still scoop them up for a reasonable price. They may never be worth what same gen 911s will be, but could definitely outpace them on ROI.
Recently picked up an 05 Cayenne S for five grand. Needed a little work, mostly just replacement of a module that controls hatch, gas door, sunroof, and brake lights. Made that $60 part seem like a lot more was wrong.
I’d rather have the old Boxster and a stack of 100’s, than a $15k car. But really I like going scary fast for cheap, 400whp Silverado 5M $7k, 1300whp Silverado 4A $14k, 990whp 335i 6M $20k.
