the 996 in the video that sld for $14750 was a tip and had early bore scoring. (I actually was bidding on the car) It was an anomaly for sure. Most 996's (even cab tippy) will sell for $20-$25k for ok to fair condition. That $14k unit will be needing an engine rebuild soon for at least $12-$15K
For me it’s got to be the 996. It’s the closest you’re going to get to the “Classic Porsche experience” without spending a lot of money! There’s always upgrades, if you want to go faster or sound/ look meaner. Most of those mods aren’t cheap, but worth it, if you’re going to keep the car for a while…
Coming from someone with experience with these cars. For everybody thinking about buying a 996, watch out which engine you pick. Some of the 3.4l ones can crack after some miles (bad hungarian manufactured blocks). You'll find a lot of the early examples 996 have "rebuild engine" in the discretion because of this. I was always told to go for the 3.6l. I was also warned to never ever buy the early examples, and always buy a 2003. (Also engine related) Another tip: go for a Carrera 4 or Carrera 4s never the regular Carrera. They behave better on wet/frozen road. For everybody thinking about buying a 944 a few tips: Buy a type II or turbo (s). Combined there were about 55,000 units made compared to the 60,000 type I's Also familiarize yourself with the "quirks" of these cars. Gives you an idea of what to look for in a "pre purchase inspection".
Find a top example of the model that fits, and keep the service up. Enjoy spirited back road driving, as it’s more than capable. The recipe for P car fun that you can live with. I’m gonna use this shopping list, cowboy!
As a Porsche Mechanic my advice to y'all: DON'T BUY A 986 BOXTER OR FIRST GEN CAYENNE!!!! many first times for the brand, therefore many faulty (very expensive) parts. And especially the Boxter is a pain in the *** to work on. Save up a little more and get urself a first gen cayman or a 997.2
Years ago (about 16 now) I almost had my hands on a 1987 Porsche 944. 5 speed manual, and that car had some giddyup. Unfortunately I didn't have the money the seller was asking, and I still kick myself for not having that car today.
Having graduated in 2001, I promised myself another Porsche. The 996 was being produced at the time, so that is the 911 I bought. Porsche engineered a 911 superior in every way to it predecessor. And it weighs less! My 911 has been faultless and fast. Could not care less what people think of the headlights. Could not care less what that clarkson guy thinks about anything. Hilarious how much credence pundits are granted by people who cannot think for themselves.
Just got back from a "spirited" drive in y new to me 2008 Cayman base with 5spd manual trans,(of course). Well kept, maintenance records from new to now, $25K and I'm in love! It's my second Cayman and it's really nice to have the true mid engine experience at a realistic price.
Hey guys, a credit for using my video (4:59 two white 928s) would have been nice from a big channel to a small one. That could have really helped me. 🥺
Lol, just bought a 996 carrera c2, guards red, beautiful on 18" turbo twist... god, i am in love. Now I can take all my money and DD the hell out of it, pay for insurance, and throw all the rest at mechanical! :D Life is good in a 996. P.S. absolutely NO ONE knows jack shit about the "fried eggs". Never once heard any poor comments. Its only porsche people trying to impress Porsche people with their porches. I just wana drive :D
some of these might not actually be cheap if you purchase at auction for example a 1979 911 Turbo my uncle Joe owned a 79 Porsche 911 turbo before he was married in fact it was the first manual powered car my mom ever drove shortly after she got her license she learned to drive in a 1978 Oldsmobile 88 which was 4 Ft longer than the Porsche and had seating for 6 passengers as opposed to 2. heck had I not been legally blind the cars I would've learned to drive in would've been longer than a Porsche a Toyota Camry from the early 90s was 15 Ft long and the Volvo was 15.67 Ft long while a comparable Ford Crown Victoria is nearly 18 Ft long and could seat up to 6 people comfortably depending on how the car was optioned I.E. Benches in front/back as opposed to bucket seats in front/bench seats in the rear
basically every model you listed has TONS of issues. 928 electrical and powertrain, 996 has IMS and bore scoring. I almost bought a Cayman S until I learned that 90% has some kind of bore scoring. Was looking at 996 Turbo that doesn't have those issues but they're priced way too high for what they are. P cars are a pass.
I get the appeal to shove a big displacement powerful and loud American v8 to scream like a Eagle hopped up on freedom and nitro But there’s something about the classiness and nimbleness of a stock engine Porsche I love the look and sound of them But again any ls swapped Porsche is a monster with the power to weight ratio
@@joshuahumphries7743 the stock motors Porsche makes are great engines and they keep the center of gravity down low, but if you get an aluminum block ls series of engine you end up saving about 100 pounds over the Porsche flat six (at least on the 996) and I recommend you look up some videos of people doing the swaps and keeping the Porsche exhaust when people do that it doesn’t make the V8 scream and chop but it keeps the elegance of the Porsche sound I get it’s not for everybody, but with ease that you can gain power, the reliability, and major TQ gain has made the 996 ls swap my dream car and this is coming from a JDM and muscle car guy

Remember a time when Porsche was just low key brand for the enthusiasts and now it’s a brand for who can show off and flex.
As an 80s kid, the 928 all day long! Tom Cruise in Risky Business.... My dream car¡
As a Porsche enthusiast, thank you.
A wide Body 987 Cayman looks super cool. I wonder why I ain't know about them 😮... but I love a 997 Turbo

Just got myself a Cayenne Turbo S 2004 as my family wagon .My first suv and Porsche. Such a great car.. so much bang for the buck.

996 4s is really good looking
IMHO the 928 was the most gorgeous shape ever penned.
Great job Brad
I love that 911
UH WHAT ABOUT THE 914? LOL
Those are getting much more expensive and harder to find nowadays. Everybody bought them all to use on the track.
I thought the Boxster was inspired by MR2. & then you add built with Toyota idk about the Miata connection
The 944 totally goes with that room🤨

Let's go Michael Beckenbauer! I will pick the 987 Cayman S.😊
Never get a V8 Cayenne of that generation - it's a maintenance nightmare.

I bought that exact car no way that’s crazy from Austin dealer was corvette country hell yea thanks guys
914 with beach Boys racing motor or v8 swap 🤔
There is no such thing as a good affordable Porsche
Only Porsche can charge more for a coupe than a convertible and people will line up for it. 😅😅😅
Because they're purer and flex less, plus lighter.

First gen panamera u missed that one
15k dollars with tiptronic and bore scoring.
I thought 1 of the unique characteristics of Porsche were their headlights. I didnt know they made car with pop up lights
Porsche made several models with pop-up headlights: 914, 924, 944, 928, 968 for sure.
