@@wienerdawg5832 a big part of games is avatar creation. I think it's pretty understandable that a lot of people do this a lot. Plus it's easier to talk to friends in a mirror instead of having to look 360 around you. And then every now and then you can also go out and do things and explore worlds. Then again.. After 2k hours you've seen it all and you just wanna hang with friends. :)

The mirror is such a surreal vr function.
It really solidifies the immersion and I think that's why people get so caught up in it.
Not to mention it's just generally easier to talk to a group of people in the mirror because of the generally low FOVs most headsets have.
Also since facial tracking isn't a big thing yet, it's a way for you to "puppet" your avatar and make sure you are expressing what you want to express.

I’ve been a mute since 2018, but people always tell me that I’m probably the most expressive person they’ve met on VRChat. I’ve also been making avatars since 2018 and I’ve added tons of things that makes communicating a breeze for me. I play as a character and my voice simply doesn’t fit the character, so I prefer not to speak basically. But people say that they always know what I mean when I’m moving around etc. They can even easily read my emotions just by looking at me and the current gesture of my avatar.

    • @Pax00Imperium
      @Pax00Imperium Рік тому +5

Interesting. Thanks for some insight into this. I'm pretty new to the experience and I'm so used to either text or voice for getting my information and for gaming. I understand the desire to not use the voice if it doesn't fit. Do you text at all then or just use hand and visual body language and gestures? I lean towards not calling those who make this choice in vr Silent Ones. Using the word Mute doesn't seem to be precise enough and it's not about their real life ability to not want to speak or not be able to, which I'd like to try to get myself from trying to label. If that makes sense. But let me know your thoughts!
I use the quest 2 through a strong pc and can only be sad for those quest users that don't have that ability. Amazing difference.

@@Pax00Imperium I used to type on discord and signal that through a hand sign I made myself, I don’t use and real sign language. It’s just hand signs I made up myself that all of my friends understand haha. But I do type a lot too with the new text box system they added. I also think that the term “Mutes” on VRChat doesn’t relate to any disability to speak, it’s probably just based on the fact that they’ve muted their mic and that they keep it muted 99% of the time. I do speak with people, but only with close friends. I also don’t see VRChat as a game. VRChat is more like a social platform to me, so you don’t need as much communication through microphones if that makes sense. VRChat has a lot of different people. Bad and good. Just do what you like and don’t what you don’t, that’s the main advice I’ll give you haha

I'm personally a "Questie" who occasionally falls under "Desktop User" when my headset is drained, since my laptop is VR Incompatible, I also spend ALOT of time hunting down Avatar Worlds, so I guess I could fall under an unmentioned/new category: "Avatar Hunters" after which I share the spoils of my travels with curious users to help them find a new look (I have over 50 avatar worlds favorited so far). I'm also just generally helpful, helping new people figure out how to do things like clone avatars, reveal auto-blocked avatars (Of course warning them of Crashers, what that means and what they do, you get it.), block or mute annoying players, etc.

A lot of the avatars look cool like some crazy fantasy type creatures and some look like little Pokemon space chickens. It's not perfect and just like with any community, different types of people exist. Some are toxic, drama filled, or give off weird vibes and I've become extremely desensitized to a lot of the things Ive seen. You get used to things and I've met some of the smartest people who I can vibe with for hours chatting or laughing while in a friend filled game lobby! She doesn't condone the behavior but she doesn't speak against it either. Which when you have influence like she does is almost like low key supporting it. My first encounter in vrchat was with a toxic trusted. I swore to not be like that ever and when i reached trusted ive been trying to change the idea that i am going to be toxic by exsiting. However streamers and such make it very very hard for me to sucuseed in this when they keep talking about how trusteds are toxic.
Her thoughts on so called mirror dwellers are really off base and show up alot as well. Like with a lot of influencers in the vr space she seems to see nothing but negativity in people gathering around a mirror. Seemingly implying they are going to be toxic from the start.
Even though i have in my 2 years of experience seen more toxic people on the otherside ie people approaching people near mirrors to actively start trouble
Becouse influencers and streamers in the space put it in the communitys heads that all people near mirrors are likely going to be toxic unprovoked so they approach ready to fight.

There is different types of Mirror Dwellers in my opinion. The social ones, like what you said about yourself for example, the boring ones/ people who talk but usually talk about mundane stuff with their friends and blow off everyone else around them, and then the antisocial ones. The antisocial ones are the creepiest and most annoying because there are a lot of them in publics! They just give an awkward wave before turning back to the mirror and silently stare at themselves for the next half hour. There are some zones in between that I haven't acknowledged, but yeah. It's not black and white.
TLDR: Not to offend but one fish in the sea doesn't represent the rest. Just because you are one who is more social doesn't mean that's how every other one is. Everyone is different.

Us dancers do our own extra setup when prepping to dance so none of our tech falls off or have anything positioned on our bodies that would be a hazard. What I do is I use a shoe lace as a chin strap to keep my headset on, I put my waist tracker through the belt loops on some short shorts, with my hip tracker off to the side rather than the center of my waist, and my feet trackers on the sides of my ankles held on tight by some hair ties that I wrap around my legs. With all that everything is safely on my body in ways that I won't come crashing down on my hardware unless I royally mess up. Like in the video you see me upsidown on a pole, if I didn't do that extra setup my hardware woulda been broke a long time ago(not that I haven't already gone through half a dozen controllers and a number of cables)
I am a memer, dancer, raver, mirror dweller, and trusted user. Though in terms of the video I very much to not fit the stereotype of trusted user. I don't mute anyone unless they are toxic or trolling, I show avatars when I can, and I go as far as using quest avatars in quest worlds so that the questies are not stuck looking at my fallback.

The worst part about mirrors is when people put them in game worlds where you need a certain amount of people to play and there will be 15 people infront of a mirror in a game world.

I haven't come back to VRChat for a long time. As a military avatar fan (used to be a role-player), it really makes me smile. Besides that, I'm a PC player and I still enjoy it.

I am the stoner space wizard that hangs out with my homies whenever, I like to make sure they got the snacks and stay hydrated, and then deep dive into esoteric conversations about life or ideas in art that we might be working on.

As a questling I can attest to the purple cats being either super helpful or likely just ignore you. One had a bit of a go for me being a questling and that was weird I felt bad for them. My most pleasant experiences have been with mutes and desktop users. Still have not met a real furry so looking forward to that. Thanks for sharing

@@KUIJEN8659 i actually like the furry kids. I was pretty shocked at the abuse people heap on them in non furry worlds... and occasionally in their own worlds. I still can't really figure out why. Was told it was "cuz they are super cringe" or so the pikachu with giant knockers and neglege told me. The can of soup Fing the goose agreed. Was curious if that was the pot calling the kettle black myself. Hope your having a great day!

I got VRchat to play with my 2 friends, and it's honestly pretty fun. I'm still very new to it and I'm definitely still trying to get over my social anxiety around strangers, but I'm sure I'll get there. I wasn't even planning on getting it til my friends did and it's definitely been an experience.
