I'm a 56 year old woman who discovered VR late in 2020. I have met some incredible folks there, even a few I got to see IRL! It's funny how no one ever believes my age when they first find out! True, everyone I've met is generally significantly younger than I am, but that doesn't make them any less genuine or fun. My most favorite thing to do is attend open mic events like the Midnight Munchies and watch people of all ages and skill levels play an instrument, tell a joke, sing, or dance in VR.

I'm one of the older players as well, and like you, not many believe it, when I tell them I'm 50 years old. They say I don't sound like it, maybe my 30s at tops. And I agree that while younger people are the general demographic of VRChat, I've made a lot of wonderful friends, many of which we've bonded to the point of contacting one another outside of the virtual world, and plan to have a huge meet up one day!

@@jadevr likewise. Most of the time they think I am a little kid using a voice changer which I find very very amusing. Even though I never mislead them and tell them I am internet ancient and in no way a child. They almost never believe me.

It looks good but it is going to take a bit to get used to, since im so used to hearing the voice from the old avi. When this video first started I had to do a double take since it threw me off hearing her voice from this new avatar.

Yo!! I’ve made probably around 200 different Kermit avatars throughout my time on VRC, I made the ones in the world at 2:09 and basically a very large majority of the ones you see around. Glad to see my work has its own dedicated section 🙌🏻😂

@X_Tils_yX yep. I've been there done that as well lol. Maybe not quite as far, but plenty of 16hr+ sessions day after day. To the point where I'm trying to move IRL with a "joystick", as if I have a controller in my hand even when I don't.

You did Great! I think people's hesitation with the new model is the difference in animation, the face tracking is off, and with a really detailed model it brings out the uncanny valley effect.

As a music player i can confirm its exactly like the person said, we really just like contributing to people's vibes and giving everyone a good time. I'm glad i can hear people while blasting music. When people give me song requests it just puts a smile on my face to see them become so happy.
I feel like I fall under a different type of category, the onboarder or hospitality advocate; One that assists players in a variety of ways. I help players with menu navigation, optimizing their experience so they're not lagging out, show them around to some cool worlds and help them get in touch with communities that they may want to get involved with based on their interests/likes. Especially with new players, I hope to reach out to them before they are bombarded with the negative/trolling experience and assume the worst of VRChat and think that's all it is.

When I first started VRChat I was so confused on the whole concept of VR and "how" to do anything. I had to approach strangers for help. Some were condescending or dismissive. And some were angels like you, willing to help out a newbie. Thank you for being such a caring person!

I always love it when I see an older person or one of my VR friends parents show up in VR. Do they need a little bit of hand holding and instruction, most of the time yes. BUT that's okay the fact that they're willing to try out something completely foreign to them is amazing to see. I love it when you go around showing an older person who just got VR all the crazy wacky experiences this game has to offer!

I feel like you could make more of a whole episode on 'avatar themes' considering the recognition of the kermit avatars. There are also Garfield avs, and then the common Booth avs, or Gumroad bases.

I don't think I cleanly fit into any of today's categories, although if I had the tiem and energy, I'd have LIKED to have learned blender to be able to do avatars, but I have toruble coming up with the drive to do 2D art, let alone 3D Stuff.
I'm not sure if you hit this group in VR. But... I'm a 40+ VRChat user... I find, (unless I'm on PC only worlds) I'm usually old enough to be someone in the lobby's mom. But lately, I have been bumping into a lot more PCVR VRChat people who are 30+ folks.
But maybe that is just the PC Only VRChat crowd, (which I don't remember if they got mentioned in the last one. But yeah, great content as always (Also, I'm an Avatar maker). HAHA Likely some people fall into multiple groups.

I'm friends with SO many DJs it's amazing. At least one of them started as a mirror music player and now he's playing shows every week haha. It's become one of my favorite ways to spend time in VRC and I've discovered some amazing music because of it. I also appreciate us stoners getting a special mention XD I usually just lump in with the alcoholics cuz nobody cares which you're doing. Thankfully my groups also tend to be chill on people who don't partake who will vibe and just drink water or something.

As a 20 year old from the newer generation it is always awesome seeing some of these older generations getting into things like virtual reality and enjoying some of the activities I as a gen z adult find fun, it makes me feel more connected and closer to the generations that came before me
vr wasnt a thing back in the late 2000s. Needed serious cash when vr started to exist. ps3/xbox360 was great when they released

That last one was a great mention. VR is amazing, but I've seen a lot of people go through that phase, and some take it a lot rougher than others. Even I went through that kind of struggle after awhile. While all of us never really want to leave that social space, it's important to remember that without your REAL self, your VR self wouldn't exist!

my grandma bought a quest 2 and only played google maps on it. then I introduced her to vr chat. now she likes to sit in this cherry blossom room and tells her awesome stories. its super cool.

Definetly in the Cute...but manly type. I'm 6,4 and I have been used to looking down while talking to other people all my life ... Just picking a cute little anime girl, walking around and interacting with people double my size is amazing 😂
I'm one of the 5.5% 45-54 year old players, clocking in at half a century. Yes, 50. But to ask the people I know, they still think I'm in my late 20s to early 30s. While the majority of my friends are quite a bit younger, that doesn't fault the strength of the bond we all share any. We're a very close knit group of friends, many of us going so far as to having one another's phone numbers outside of VRChat, planning out a huge get together one day, forming a bond with one who's become my honorary brother, closer to me than my real brothers ever were, and even one who's pretty much adopted me as her surrogate mother, and I've accepted as being that mother she needs in her life. There's even been discussion of trying to have me become her legal guardian or straight up adoption to be my legal daughter. No one knows just how close people become in this virtual world, the feeling of friendship and companionship, or the sense of belonging, or the pure emotions that come from this amazing alternate reality.
I do realize the difference between the real world, and the virtual. It's not a total escape, real life is going to happen, regardless. But it is a way to cope with some of the issues, and lose yourself, if just for a night or day, into a place where the outside world takes a backseat to whatever you can imagine.

I am an escapist I always felt bad about myself. I’m what some say “overweight” I’m starting to try to get out of my shell thanks to my friends and my boyfriend. Love the new avatar ❤
I have VR chat but personally haven't been using public worlds for I think almost a year now. I am currently dealing with social anxiety and its been hard to make friends in VR and the real world. This video series inspired me to get back on VR chat public worlds (even though its 2 AM) and start talking to people. Thanks for the amazing videos❤
from my experience as a new vrc user with horrible social anxiety, going into public alone is super difficult. If you have any friends who play vrc, it can be helpful having them come along!

i’ve been the opposite of “cute but manly” sometimes! i used to use a tall, masculine, demon-esque avatar, and one time i joined a conversation, and the first thing i heard was “wow, i was not expecting that voice” (as my voice is higher/feminine)

I was impressed by all of the positivity in your video. You deserve a lot of credit for that. It was fun to put a name to some of the patterns I've seen emerge, as well as confirm that some of them, like the sleeping players and the Kermits, were actually real!
as someone who comes from years in the Canadian Festival scene when covid times happened and shows and venues were closed vrchat was a great way to test out new music before sending to the label where prior to that the clubs were. In the 3 years ive been in vrchat i have met many wonderful people. and to my suprise bumped into folks i have known in real life by surprise. this medium is a nice extension of reality, the new telephone if you will. it is many things for many people. be it a tool for real time animation, and or getting to play pool with a buddy you haven't seen in years but live far away. its wild and wonderful. I feel lucky that in my life time i've gotten to experience that early internet vibe more then once.
Hey Phia, I loved the last VRCHAT Player type video and this one was just as good! It's weird because I don't go into VR often enough to not say I'm a noob walking around and trying to figure out what to do, but I've also been playing for around 3 or 4 years. One thing though, I almost didn't click on the video because of the changed skin/profile pic (they look awesome by the way) so you might have missed some other people. Not that I know the best way to fix it but you could maybe add the TVRS logo or the PHIA font, anything along those lines to the thumbnail to be more recognizable. I think thrill does this with the TN or VO on the top left of the thumbnail.

I LOVE THE NEW MODEL OMG ITS SO CUTE. Also I guess I exist in the mute memers category. Though I'm not actually mute, I just enjoy memeing with a soundboard. For fellow soundboard users, USE IT RESPONSIBLY. Don't just spam memes, use meme or quotes/phrases that fit the situation almost like a real conversation. People will 9 times out of 10 enjoy your presence that way lol. Notice two people acting touchy feely, hit them with the PH video intro, or some careless whisper. Hear someone saying terrible things, hit them with the Michael Jordan, stop it, get some help. Trust me its a great time lol. I've broken the mute soundboard act when the situation calls for it though. Sometimes a serious conversation is happening or you're asked something REAL and meme-ing isnt exactly appropriate lol.
Just bought a Quest 2 a few days ago, and still need to boost my confidence enough to just join a VRChat world with a bunch of random people. (I'm a total introvert btw.).
I discovered your channel today and watched a few vids 'bout VRChat. And you kinda made me more confident and also hyped enough to just do it, to try out this new world and overcome my shyness bit by bit. But first I need to find a suiting avatar before I do that 😄

I have another one you can add. there's also the people who use it as a kind of therapy. I have been playing off and on for 3 years and have some great friends but recently I have been struggling irl and been going to my friends in vrc for help and now I am in the best shape I have ever been in mentally and as a result of being in a better state mentally, I have also reached a better state physically. I was hardly eating and had hardly eaten for 3 weeks, but now I am eating like I should, and just feel amazing.

I find sleeping in vr relatively comfortable actually. Not hating by the way but I like to listen to people talking while I’m sleeping and just the pressure on my head from the headset is comforting for some reason- 😭
Looking really good Phia, I was wondering when you were gonna update your looks to a more modern a fitting one, and this one is great looking and fits you really well. As you are a pretty big representative person for the VR community when it comes to VRC its great to see your avatar also be a good represantation of VRC in 2023 too. You considering eye tracking at some point for it maybe? It would probably "wow" some people as you're likely one of the first channels people get introduced to via youtube, at least that was the case for me.

When we got to the "Clueless Adults" and I see two of the basic avatars I started with as the constant examples. Yah, that is fair. VR dads unite!
I study phycology and learn about personality types. VRC has been a really good tool for helping learn about people but it has also helped me to realize that many of VRC inhabitance suffer from more then a few mental health problems. "Trolls" are the ones I feel the most empathy for, Brings new meaning to the sad clown painting.
Perhaps you could make a video on the phycology of people who use VRC.

Your videos are really good; they have a documentary character. I have a question about VR Chat: When I am in a public room, I have the ability to use avatars, other people in the room are using. That is confusing. From Thrill's videos, I know that those avatars are expensive. Can I just make them my own? No. But where do these e-boys/ e-girls get their avatars from? Did they all spend as much as Thrill? I am confused.
