There has been a lot of recent discussion on the federal government descheduling or rescheduling marijuana in 2023 or 2024. The secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Bacerra recently made statements about the review process for how marijuana is classified by the federal government. Is it possible that marijuana could soon be legalized by the federal government? If not in 2023, when will marijuana be legalized?

Marijuana will never become federally legal in the United States. That is a pipe dream and everybody who thinks it’s going to happen is delusional.

Its likely to get moved to schedule III. That means that medical marijuana would be federally legal, but recreational marijuana would still not be legal.
Schedule III drugs also have a reduced penalty if caught.
One thing to remember is that Merrick Garland the US atty. general has said he would maintain a hands off approach federally in states that have legalized it. The Cole Memorandum is an agreement with the Justice department that says they will not enforce federal marijuana laws in legal states.
Garland is not opposed to fully de scheduling marijuana, but he does remain skeptical in doing so. However, he does believes that marijuana should be moved to schedule III.
The DEA is now reviewing it.

Then Congress would have to exempt Cannabis from DEA scheduling, like they did for tobacco and alcohol, which both are far more destructive. Tobacco is just pure bad with absolutely zero redeeming qualities, alcohol in irresponsible hands causes so many car accidents, domestic violence problems and poisonings. There is absolutely zero justification for not exempting it if these are exempt.

I'm a medical marijuana patient and say it is unfair that there is discrimination in hiring workers, It should be treated just like a prescription that shouldn't stop people from getting hired or maintaining the job. But I rather have marijuana treated in the same segment as alcohol where you smoke responsibly and no one has the right to tell you what you can put in your body as long as you don't go to work under the influence of a substance. I hope the laws do change for the better.

Since issue one unfortunately didn't pass we still only need 50%+1 to pass this & we gave that.

There is no test currently on the market that can adequately test for the impairment of somebody who's been using cannabis and fortunately, that technology is never going to exist due to how long the drug stays in your system.
Theoretically speaking you could smoke a blunt before you go to bed, wake up & get pulled over & still raise suspicion but unless a person is stupid enough to give the cop consent, search their card. They have nothing to hold you on. Because smell is no longer considered probable cause.

Marijuana THC will not be legal, neither party wants it legal. Now HEMP is legal, and you can buy THCA anywhere you want. But testing for metabolites is still done and needs to be ended. Proponents of legalization really need to push the modification of EO 12564, and that could be done with a stroke of the presidents pen.

Marijuana should be pulled off of the schedule class completely and alcohol should be added to the schedule class. Alcohol can require the need of benzodiazepines to help with withdrawal symptoms. Sure you can withdrawal from marijuana but chances are it won't be life threatening. One's endocannabinoid system can have a chance to recover without being a life threat. People are working every day on a prescribed schedule II Adderall, Ritalin. People are now getting PTSD treatment on schedule III ketamine. People are prescribed schedule IV Ambien for sleep! And the list goes on an on. Yet you can't smoke a joint when you get home from work. Completely unrealistic expectation.

well it is now mid October 2023... and we have holidays coming up and very little congressional work getting done due to the speaker of the house debacle currently happening....... and the rePUBICans outright refusal to work with Democrats to get ANYTHING done has already been realized and bragged about by rePUBICan law makers.... and they will also need to fix the testing system to a physical impairment test as opposed to a THC METABOLITE test for workplace testing and pre-employment screening..... because currently you wont get hired if you piss hot even tho you may have partaken "legally" over a weekend in a state where it has been legalized..... or you can be fired......as a matter of fact... in the state i live in (PA) you can be charged with a DUI if you come up positive on a piss test... that means you can lose your license and be forced to pay hefty fines for simply testing positive for THC metabolites and not actually being physically impaired... THIS ALL NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!!!!!!

This is either a failure of leadership or alternatively Biden doesn’t actually want a change in the schedule. As a people manager, you never request something “expeditiously” you give a concrete timeline. Tasks always fill up the time you give people to complete them. He needs to say, look into this, and give me a report in 60 days (or whatever timeframe he picks) and don’t let this drag on in an open ended way.

That's the opinion, but what would actually happen would be the states would end up with an increased revenue stream, which would better the lives for people in whatever state we're talking about, Ohio in this case.
Better roads, schools, problem solving ect. I didn't want to make a big exhaust of list, but the extra money would definitely do good to Decrease some of the states debt while helping fix problems that have been festering for a while, like all those damn construction sites on our highways.
