  • As we often mention, the black Argyll jacket and vest is the most basic highland dress accessory you can get -- ready for whenever you need to dress up. A black Argyll will get you by for many day wear occasions, semi-formal and even black tie. If you don't have a Highland jacket yet, you should probably still consider grabbing one.
That said, tweeds are "next level" Highland wear. Or to put it more exactly - a tweed set is usually the second or third clothing item most gents will invest in when building their kilt wardrobe. You can't use tweeds for every occasion, but they are layers you can really live in. They always look smart with your kilt. Tweeds quickly become old friends - part of your signature as a kilt enthusiast. A real statement of style and taste.
So...can you marry the practicality of the Argyll with the dash of a nice tweed set? What tweed is the best to invest in for a vest to go with all your kilts and accessories? What is the most common design of a tweed waistcoat?
Rocky gives us some insight on what he thinks counts as "go to" tweed.

I wear my wedding vest unbuttoned casually all the time, mostly because it's the only new thing I bought for myself for my wedding, and I will never be able to button again. I'll do it over t-shirt or with rolled up sleeves in a button down.

They can be made smaller but they can't really be made larger beyond the cinching strap on the back being fully let out.

I've never heard them called waistcuts before. Waistcoats here in the UK or vests in the US. Where does the waistCUT name come from?

Where can you get the vest you are wearing in this video? Just the vest, not an accompanying jacket.

Waistcoat ("weskit") is essentially the same thing as a vest
