Waistcoats add a lot of character to an ensemble and tweed is a great choice. Glad you enjoyed the video and for your comments👍🙂

I have an interest in casual waistcoats, What I mean by that is ones with buttons, since in my opinion this makes a vest a waistcoat but I still use the 2 interchangeably. Having patch pockets that can hold more items and are made with more casual fabrics such as denim, canvas, and rough wool. I currently own a Filson Mackinaw wool vest, which I can wear casually or with as far as a sport coat. I am more of a casual person and I find that these types of waistcoats suit me better. I believe that wearing a vest or waistcoat alone looks better indoors than outdoors, if that is not a strange thing to say.

Hi there, I tend to differentiate wearing a one off (independent) piece as a vest and a piece that is matching as suit as a waist coat, but I get where you are coming from. It is a great way of adding a little personality to a casual look, the Filson Mackinaw wool vest you mention is a great casual type of vest with a slightly unconventional design is a good example of that and using none suit materials is another way of adding interest, such as a fine Merino wool sleeveless cardigan gives you the vest like look and some added warmth as well. I often wear a vest in the summer months rather than a jacket and it adds a little colour as well. Thanks for sharing 👍🙂

Excellent content, Chris. I hadn't appreciated the sheer variety of waistcoat designs. Your guidance on dress code etiquette for the more formal ones was particularly helpful. Thank you also for taking the time and trouble to demonstrate the visual examples on how to get the best effect when wearing a waistcoat; proof, not that it is needed, that stylish attire is about having a little bit of fun too. I think waistcoats are a versatile addition to any gentleman's wardrobe and are great for lifting even a casual look into something that little bit special. I have waistcoats made by Lloyd Attree & Smith, aka L A Smith. They offer a wide range of colours and material textures that all look smart and yet are very reasonably priced. Lastly, a question for you Chris: would you ever wear a waistcoat with a single-breasted blazer?

Glad you found the video enjoyable, waistcoats are a great addition to a wardrobe. As for wearing a waistcoat with a single breasted blazer, it is acknowledged that people do wear a jumper or a sleeveless jumper (tank top) under their blazer for added warmth, however I would suggest a single breasted waistcoat could be worn with a single breasted blazer as a more formal look, but I would probably wear a grey waistcoat rather than trying to match the colour of a black or navy blazer, the complication is the colour of your trousers to consider as well🙂
as an example black or navy blazer, light grey trousers and charcoal grey waistcoat would be a preferred option🙂

Thank you Chris. I am glad I asked you. It has never occurred to me to wear a waistcoat with my single-breasted navy blazer, but watching this video put the idea into my head. 😊Thank you for pointing out the potential colour coordination issues which I hadn't fully considered. I might experiment along the colour lines you suggest but keep to a white shirt to avoid complicating the overall look. It is fun to try these ideas and so far the reaction from friends has always been encouragingly positive.👍 P.S. I have sent you a follow-up email with some further thoughts on our last exchange and tagged another possible video topic at the very end of it.😊

Short answer is no she does not, she will on occasion pass comment on how she likes a particular look, but that's as far as it goes 🙂
