As a short guy, I wear an Air Force v-neck sweater in colder weather and tuck it into the kilt with my shirt. Then, put on my belt. I generally wear this with a regimental tie. It works for me in colder weather, and a more casual look with a tucked sweater vest might work also.
I have a woolen tweed vest and a woven silk vest, both from Orvis. Both work and look fine with my kilt and sporran just covering my belt. Both are intended to be worn as individual pieces, they are not from a three piece suit. As you've said try it and see.
FYI angle up or zoom in the camera in a bit. ;-) I've got a saxon black vest, but I haven't tried it with my kilt yet. I might have to leave the lower button or two undone to give way for the sporran.

Please... Waistcoat. Vintage can work well, as they were cut for high waisted trousers.
A friend wanted to know.
Do they make a solid Black Wool Tartan?
Yes....for Kilts...... not sure about a black wool vest.
É uma roupa confortável ?
provavelmente sim
What is a Saxon vest? I've never heard of it.
It's a regular suit vest. A regular suit is called a saxon.
hello
Define "regular-size" guy...
I prefer clothes without a tie, I don't like a tie, it's a useless piece.
I wear a leather biker vest, wear what you want, nobody really cares
