    They're Swedish.
They were also the world biggest metal band in the early 00s so anyone listening to metal who hasn't heard of In Flames is really an anomaly.

World's biggest metal band is a bit of a stretch man.
Most casual metal fans I have met across different countries in the past 20 years have never heard In Flames music. By the early 00's, Melodic death metal was getting bigger but still not globally popular, and as a genre, it never had any massive breakthrough in the way that other metal bands like Slipknot, System of a Down, Trivium, Korn, Rammstein, Deftones had within the metal scene on global scale.
Clayman (2000) and Reroute to Remain (2002) saw the band begin to move away from their melodic death roots and whilst popular in Europe, none of the songs on those two albums made any significant global impact like for example Chop Suey by SOAD did.
It wasn't until Soundtrack to Your Escape in 2004 that they became more alternative metal and refined their sound for foreign audiences. Even still, they weren't headlining the big metal festivals across the world, they were usually a support act for those aforementioned big American bands which I witnessed first-hand at several metal festivals from 2004-2015.
I think Take this Life featuring on Guitar Hero was probably the closest In Flames have come to being a "household name" but even that is a bit of a stretch because that game was again dominated by more popular songs from bigger bands.
Just my opinion and observations obviously, I love me some In Flames, I just can't agree they were even close to the world's biggest metal band at any stage in their career.

@@ryukan250 I guess the difference is that we are on opposite sides of the pond, In europe In Flames for sure is one of the biggest bands and has become bigger in the states in the later years. But as you said to say the are the biggest metal band is a stretch. Then again their latest album Forgone is a masterpiece, In my opinion their best in many years. The sound of classic In Flames created with modern technology and Anders best vocals ever is a contender for the best album of the year.

In Flames is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed in 1990. They are considered to be one of the pioneers of melodic death metal. They have been an influence to quiet a few known bands too. In the 2000s they became a nu metal band. Be carefully prepared listening to some of their songs as some of their more well known songs will talk about real life sadder subjects.

In flames have a bigger back catalog than Nightwish, have been around longer as well (1990) although one of the original members from back then are still in the band. The sound has changed completely since the 90's, but its still damned good, most of it anyway. If you want to follow up, look for songs called "Stay with me" from the same album as this one, Cloud Connected was a big hit, Only for the Weak, My sweet shadow... personal favourite, if you want the "masterpiece" type of song like Nightwish come up with... go for one called "A New Dawn".
Awesome band, well worth looking deeper into.

I was born in 83, I grew up with both of these bands and Im not sure I agree,
theyre definitely in the same arena...
and what you say could be true but if it is its not by a large margin.
looking back they were both massive and if counting individual tracks id say In Flames has them beat but if you count hits I think Nightwish knocks them out.
over all I think Nightwish and In FLames are pretty equal concerning impact

In Flames are a milestone and almost certainly an influence for the musical taste of anyone born around (at least my time) 1990. FWIW that isn't the lead singer in the video.
    In Flames we trust.

This is one of their lesser known songs really 🤣
Clayman were their first real flagship followed up by absolutly massive albums like Rerout to Remain, Come Clarity and Soundtrack to your escape.
Basically anything they did in the late 90s to the mid 00s struck gold.

No, I am above is not, its already hit about 13 million on UA-cam and 30 million listens on Spotify. So no not one of their lesser known songs easily not. a lesser known song like "Wallflower" is lesser known. I'm a huge fan of In Flames but their 1990's didn't exactly hit me, lets just say I'm not a huge fan of RA ROWR RAR BA DUR DA BUR. anyway just already got my point across at 5:00 in the morning.

@@sabertheravenger9201 Dunno how old you are... but you do know that there was a world before spotify and youtube, right?
In Flames peak was in the late 90s early 20s.
where they build their audience and made a neme for themselves were a long time before social media had a say in anything.
if you ask every single *real* fan about inflames none of them will even mention this song.¨
If you ask the average person I bet my house that clayman, cloud connected, reroute to remain, come clarity, trigger, crawl through knives, my sweet shadow, bullet ride, pinball map, only for the weak and a hundred other song would come to their mind before I am above.
No matter what your stats tells you, this *is* one of their lesser known songs...
      Einstein once said, there are three types of lies;
      Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics.

@@F1rstWorldNomaD hey dude just finished reading your message, and you calling me a faKKing idiot? dude I know that there wasn't social media in the EARLY 90's but there was in the LATE 90's and I may be 18 but come on. Really? are you mad about the fact how I made fun of every PURE Death metal band that exists or the fact how I told you that it was 5:00 in the morning?
But like it or not, it IS one of there most known songs but even back then there was something called a RADIO where they would play the biggest HITS however I couldn't help but notice not a single song from the 90's was on that list. How come?
but the statistics say that it IS one of their most well known songs. Duh... I love this band every aspect of them and here you are getting butthurt about me stating a FACT that it is one of their biggest known songs.
By The Way how is not having social media make a band more popular?
Anyway its 10:00 you think I got my point across?

This might be an unpolular opinion but i think covers of these songs by another heavier metal band could make them so much better. I feel like the music video has a lack of emotion and commitment. He is too calm for me. But i still love this song.
