The plastic fortresses and plastic alliance tokens are Kickstarter exclusive. The game has cardboard versions in the retail version. Just a FYI for those that buy it later.
as a fan of the Three Kingdoms and Dynasty Warriors video games. as soon as I saw Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Pong Tong and Liu Bei. I had to get it. all the figures in this game are awesome.
If you want a truly great Three Kingdoms themed game, look no further than Three Kingdoms Redux by capstone games. Excellent worker placement, engine building, bidding game that has asymmetrical play. One of my all time favorite games.
Joost Nauw I’m not sure what he meant by “fits in the base box” because the figures for the two new Clans and the Seven Lucky Gods certainly don’t fit in the base box (not unless you throw out all the plastic inserts and just chuck the figures in). The cardboard Clan shield does, but that’s about it. It doesn’t even fit in the exclusive Daimyo box.
Because this expansion lets you go up to 6 players (because the 6th regular faction was kickstarter exclusive) would you mind telling us your thoughts on a full 6 player game?
I'll tell you mine :) It's really not great at 6. Compared to 4 player sessions, 6 is longer, with more noticeable downtime, AND each player gets fewer Mandates. This doesn't sound so bad, but in practice you really feel those lost mandates. The game does not scale the card count either so with a 6 player game your initial turn order could potentially mean all the cards are gone by the time it gets around to you. I love 6 player count games and backed this partially for the extra clan. I love the game, but im going to avoid it at 6 in the future (Haven't tried 5 yet)
I think that is why you probably ought to play with some extra monsters (either from the KS exclusives or the Monster pack) to have some more cards to choose from with more players, also so that it's more risky to get a monster since if everyone gets some then they become targets for Betray.
But the total no. of mandates are fixed. So the only increase in playtime is from the additional follow actions and the additional region(s) that have a war (no. players + 2, so 2 more regions in a 6 player game vs. 4. I haven't done a 6 player game of it yet, but I can't see it being /that/ much longer. Maybe 20-30 mins longer. But otherwise something's gone wrong.
It's actually not possible for all cards to be gone. You will have 12 cards each season (7 basic and 5 from the set you decide to play with), plus any additional monsters you decide to add (plus Lucky Gods), which is enough for every player to acquire one card each time a Train mandate is played. The Lotus clan can certainly mess with the number of Train mandates, but that's an unrelated problem. That said, it's definitely possible that the card you /want/ is gone, but that's true in a 4-player game as well.
While you may be blue, I am green with envy because I did not get this expansion with the rest of the Kickstarter. I want to paint hose minis! Oh, and play with the new clans of course
It's what position your clan starts at. So a clan with 2 starts higher up on the honor ladder than a clan with 8. The number is not how much honor you have at the beginning, just the position, kinda like number 2 in a race is further ahead then number 8.
Hello everyone from italy! I love this game it's a trip. We just played this expansion yesterday, and it seems that the clan of the sun actually doesen't use it's power a lot during the fights. What do you think? Ciao
As a kickstarter backer, I avoided the Dynasty box because I was not a fan of their Kami being exclusive to them. Plus I already had 6 clans and a ton of Oni for the game. On a side note, the oversized neoprene game mat is GORGEOUS!!!
I would add that for me it felt like the expansion were envisioned late in the design process. While being integrated as best as possible, still more like an afterthought. It could even be orders from above to get more money grabs in (although that's just my speculation). The base game plus KS exclusives seems quite complete as is.

anyone explain the deal with all the blue? Blue shirt, hat, beard!?

Did you really have to destroy the box at the end? ;)

Is there any reason why this box has cards for the oni if you aren't allowed to play them?
I noticed you said 8 was a low honor and 2 was high is that backwards or have I been playing wrong. Just curious

That poor box... Am I the only one that keeps these extra boxes to carry my 40k? (Looking at you Kami Unbound... You're getting my Genestealers)
THE BOX!!!!
Perfect timing just got mine in the mail. Can’t wait to destroy my enemies.
Wow way of the snake seems incredibly powerful :O

I paused this review at just the right moment, and now I want to see how many of these I can capture: imgur.com/a/8d7QK

J Dubb I agree...I didn't get them because I wasn't thrilled with the idea of a non-compete with Monsters
That being said, I really love the Lucky Gods - the models are cool and they have fun abilities.
