  • Today we explore why, once again, (however desperate they may grow), creationists are still apes along with the rest of humanity. We are hominoids, catarrhines, anthropoids, haplorrhines, and primates! And that's pretty neat.
    Covered: General taxonomy, the criteria for our order and superfamily, orphan genes, paleontology, genetics and cool primate facts,
    Tackled in this video is a video by Rawmatt (Local Creationist) which can be found over at the Standing for Truth Channel: • Taxonomic Classificati...

He is refuted by his own fellow creationists when it comes to that argument. All creationists will claim that horses and zebras are the same "kind". And they can often interbreed, producing sterile offspring. Just for fun look up the chromosome numbers of horses and zebras. They do not differ by only 2 chromosomes. they differ by up to a factor of two different chromosomes. Horses can have twice as many chromosomes as some species of zebras.

Imagine body starts to change its form and characteristics completely. That by itself is literal miracle. Body changes so much it becomes something else and annihilates previous form and is now completely different then original form. New form is totally different then an old form. But you call it the same? Insane. Birds are birds. Dinosaurs no longer exist. Same as humans. Humans are humans. We have literal apes living as we speak, to clearly see we’re not the same. the skunk example makes absolutely no sense _unless_ you imagine that taxonomy can only operate on baramins and whether something is or isn't in one.
    if you construct a long enough list of human and skunk characteristics, but put them all in a two-dimensional table with another example animal each and ordered all the rows and columns so the "shared with humans" boxes roughly form a right triangle, you could coarsely reconstruct the whole tree of life and see that skunks are unlike sponges, a bit like humans, and a lot like red pandas. this is not contradictory or confusing unless you had two rooms labelled "dogs" and "weasels" and had to put the skunk in one room.

    I’ve always wanted to ask a creationist (or former creationist) why exactly did they feel so bad whenever the fact of us being apes is brought up, I believe that when they’re far off enough, not even facts can’t convince them otherwise, as they’ll keep moving the goalpost to what they believe, I think if we understand their feelings, if we know why does it bother them so much, maybe we may have an easier time making them understand

    • @perujones2
      @perujones2 2 роки тому +13

      Hello, former creationist here. The primary argument I believe is that the Bible says that man was made in the image of God. So essentially, if we admit that we are similar to other apes, we are not above the other animals, and no God has ordained us as such.
      Of course, you could still believe that we are special even still. But I think that it revolves around the idea that they believe only a literal interpretation of the Bible can be true. So if any of it is wrong, a creationist will see the entire body of scripture as wrong. Thus they must protect the idea of man made in God’s image, and by doing so they believe they must reject man’s relationship with the other apes.

    Despite being a creationist, at least Linneaus recognized that humans and the other apes are so similar that they can be placed within the same super family and demanded his peers to give evidence that humans and the other apes shouldn't be grouped together.
    Not to be mean spirited or anything but are Young Earth Creationists having a vanity issue here?

      Aside from Erika's answer, there's also the logical conclusions to be made by accepting humans as apes. It means that we fit into other taxonomic categories too, in a tree of life that necessarily points to evolution from a common ancestor.
      _That_ is what YECs cannot stand. Sure, they'll accept evolution both micro- and macro- when necessary (enough that you can catch them on nothing but their own arguments and knowing what evolution is), but they absolutely refuse, often with clear vitriol and malice in how they do it, to accept what we can show about life's history on our planet.

    Raw Matt's attempt at doing cladistics for a human and a skunk pissed me off. His ignorance must be completely willful, there is no way anyone can be that ignorant about a subject that they not only wish to talk about, but claim is completely wrong, unless they purposely don't want to understand it. It really doesn't take that much research to understand at least the very basics of how classification works. He has no excuse. I admire your patience Erika 😂.

    Part of science is that it is constantly being updated and changed, and I think he gets very uncomfortable with change in any way. So they just stick to their untrue vague attempt at understanding, and the reason he likes his version of fantasy better is because they never change anything. So science scares them with there ever evolving and changing theories.
