Hi. Well what a lovely clean train. The platform looked cleaner than british rail. Expect it was very humid. You always make a good commentry and soothing music. Great views from window. Our neighbours like u too. They have all subscribed. Safe travels. Best wishes David and Beverley Norfolk
Cheers guys and thanks for your support as always (and your neighbours). It was very humid but I kind of got used to it after a while. There was always some a/c refuge somewhere!
Well done Mark. As you mentioned, it had a been a few tough weeks for you - glad all went well with train & ferry this time. Am sure you enjoyed your drink or 2 in the bar :) Take care
A lovely video. It wasn't so easy to travel when I went there so I was probably on one of those old ferries 😅 The train wasn't as comfy as you had probably another old one 😅 I so miss Thailand and would love to go back. Was lovely to reminisce. Thank you 😊
Thanks Linda. My first time over there (and won’t be the last). Those old ferries reminded me of when I went to Kowloon and took the Star Ferries over to Hong Kong. Probably 25 years ago that.
The old ferries not just ferries passengers and motorcycles, they ferry cars too! They were replaced by Langkawi express in 2018 which were really small, cramped and uncomfortable though the aircon is good. This year, the official replacements started in august and I haven’t tried it yet. There were some news back in 2018 about turning the old ones into restaurants, but it has not materialised and probably never will. And! When dining on the train, avoid sandwiches and ALL western offerings. Buy Malay/Indian food like nasi lemak or nasi briyani, you’d never go wrong with those if you can take spice.
Cheers mate. Yep the thing with the food, I did try those dishes and I just wanted something basic tbh on that day. When I got to Penang I had Pad Kra Pay(?) which was also very spicy but really nice 👍
Lol Mark you've had a stressful time I'm glad to see you are still alive after that butty on the train 😲 anyway great video m8 get yourself a shave all the best John uk 😊 ps always get your essentials before you get the transport lol ✅
I personally, have no interest in travelling to the Far East. However, everything is well organised particularly with the rail departures. A very interesting video Mark. 👍
Cheers Gazza. Yes the transport in Malaysia (well KL anyway) was not particularly fast but it was there and connectivity seemed good even though it could take an age to get to some places. I’ll be back one day - maybe even next year 👍
Should have gone 1st class. Free food and better seating. Is the steam engine and the uk built diesel shunter at the Butterworth station entrance? Thailand next?
Yes but it’s twice the price Kenneth and I was on a tight budget. I didn’t see the steam engine or the shutter tbh but I wasn’t really looking that hard. Thailand is a possibility but will need to wait until next year now 😊
In Malaysia there are no more operational steam engine powered train, those thing either went into the museum or went disappear in some scrap yard a few decades ago.
Greetings from a Scotsman in KL. Recently watched your videos of Scotland and Wales... The old KL station design was the winner of a competition. All designs were scrutinised by a Committee..They all liked the design...but the chief of the committee said..looks good, but it won't be strong enough to hold the snow. A committee member who had actually been to Malaya said...there is no snow as it is always hot. The design was approved and the station is what you saw during your KL visit. Are you still in Malaysia and coming back to KL? If yes, please contact me so that we can take you to places which you might not know.
