Great and informative video. I have travelled on trains many times in Thailand and Malaysia. In summary, Thai trains are slow and repeatedly stop for unknown reasons. Malaysian trains are quick and efficient.

Really nice way to travel Tom and remember how nice it was when I went to France from Germany and back. Very modern, fast and comfortable way to travel for sure. In just two weeks will be back to the Phillipines for Christmas and really appreciate your videos especially today back to beautiful Thailand. Looking forward to your next. Funny this video popped up. I wanted to take the train all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok a few weeks ago, but it was fully booked when I was in KL. In langkawi now heading home soon, maybe I'll try next time.

Thanks I need to get from Langkawi to Hua Hin via Hat Yai , this looks like a great idea . Well done .
Yes take the ferry to Kuala Perlis, then by taxi or grab to Arau train station, take the Komuter train service that serve the north block to Padang Besar. Buy the train to Hatyai ticket there (they don't sell it online).... But the train to Hatyai only depart twice daily from Padang Besar, so better check the train schedule or spend a night in pandang besar.
@@ashtriana1 thanks so much , that is very kind , I am thinking of going to Satun , getting a bus to Krabi then another to Hua Hin . I can’t face the long chug up to Chiangmai so I’ll have a few days in Bangkok then head up to Chiangmai by bus for 14 nights. Thank you .
@@normhanson981 if you decided to skip hatyai, you don't need to take the train to hatyai or even the train to padang besar, if i am not mistaken there ferry service to Koh Lipe, an island off the coast of satun. Try to get a ferry out from there to Satun there..

Thanks for the informative video. I am thinking of bringing my elderly parents for a trip from KL to HatYai. Now I am not so sure if going there by train is a better choice than by flight. Seems like there are a lot of stairs to walk especially at the Padang Besar station.

Do you remember what time you took off from KL, arrived in padang besar, Train ticket counter opened for Hatyai, time took off from Padang Besar and Time arrived at Hat Yai? Hope you can let me know. thank you in advance.

For me, the KTM train is the best, but there are less passengers because the journey is quite far to the north of Malaysia
I think the key words you wanna say is too expensive and too slow, 100 ringgit and 6hours is not better than drive car by yourself if you have one

Just FYI in case helpful.. The UK FCDO advises against using the Hat Yai to Pedang Besar train line, which was attacked in December 2022.
Yeah and NY city was attacked back in 2001, i've heard they have boosted up their safety at the train stations and been no issues since

From our research seemed as a one off thing that serious. But honestly saying Amtrak trains in AMerica have a 20% falling off the tracks record Malaysia/Thailand sounding much safer 🤣

Malaysia Train is very modern compare to Thai Train.... more comfortable n come together with good servise similarly in airoplane as well 🥰

Just FYI, trains in Taiwan, Japan and possibly South Korea are super-quiet. I wish that were the case with Malaysian trains too, in the enclosed aircon coaches. But I agree that the old train has more character.

If you were going to Thailand I don't understand why MJ had to go home, she would have got a 30 day Thai visa. Maybe she wanted to go but I'm sure she would have preferred travelling. Medical things are 100 times better in Thailand also.
