Such great life advice, especially on not being afraid to walk away from a bad situation. Reminds me of a rule from Sun Tzu's Art of War: strategically retreating or avoiding a battle (confrontation) is sometimes the greatest victory.
My journey to FIRE started similarly. It took me 8 years to achieve it. I had a late start in the investing world. I didn't learn about it until I was in my mid 30s. Some coworkers and acquaintances thought I was crazy for taking this path. They believed it was an unachievable goal for me. The looks on their faces were priceless when I announced I was leaving my job last year. I was 44. Imagine had I known about investing when I was in my 20s. Regardless, I retired early and I'm set for life. Never underestimate the power of assets and compound interest.
Liabilities... You are 💯 right. After I watch your video today something clicked and I went to calculate my liabilities…. Called and canceled 4 things that I don’t really need it but what’s sucking good $217 monthly out of my pocket. 2 storage units? Nope. All goes in my garage and then sorting and donating. Thank you again, enjoy your journey.
I watched most of your videos - they are great, specially the passive investment advise you shared to live free. I want to travel like you low cost. To make it happen, I'm buying good companies stocks and holding them forever. You actually opened my eyes, I cut many of my expenses and not buying expensive cars anymore, I sold my big house and bought a townhome - I feel happier. You are my best friend!
I own 3 condos and 5 retail shops plus global stocks as well as an emergency fund. I live off the property income and let the money in the stock market grow. If one of my properties becomes empty or a repair needs carrying out, then I will use some of that money in the stock market account to carry out the repairs.
Liked! 👍 Another great video. Sound advice on investing and a wise story about avoiding a fight. The best way to win a fight every time is to not get in them. Deescalate. In many countries even if you beat down the opponent you can still lose.
Penang is still beautiful in the rain. Safe travels. Mahalo. BTW, sorry to hear about that unpleasant incident about that drunk. Sounds like you handled it well. Saving face is also big in Asia as well.
I am so jealous. I wish I could eat what you eat everty day and be healthy like you. However I use to eat like that and my blood pressure and hba1c crept up the unhealthy range so i quir the carbs and lowered both to a healthy range. I admire your focus on health and finances, that is what it takes to get em better.
@@RetireandGo I do not do blood work anymore, I periodically check my blood pressure and check my waist to height ratio. The only way for my Ha1c to rise is from high levels of glucose and high levels of insulin. Eating just protein and fat does not cause high levels of either. As long as my blood pressure stays heathy and my waist to heigth ratio is healthy I will stay the course.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience in the restaurant, thankfully that has not happened to me as yet. But it was a good reminder to us all UA-camrs, I find I get less attention when I film on my phone 😊
I don't know about the stormy weather in Malaysia... But according to Vietnamnet, Vietnam will temporarily halt flight operations at four airports in the north on September 7 before super typhoon Yagi makes landfall, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
@@RetireandGo Nature can be brutal. From BBC...Super typhoon Yagi, Asia's most powerful storm this year, has killed at least 59 people and injured hundreds in northern Vietnam, according to local authorities.
That's crazy about the encounter with the belligerent drunk. I'm always too shy to film at restaurants, but I did get some weird stares on the train the other day. I have spent some time in a foreign jail (Japan), not for fighting but visa violations and let me tell you that was scary as hell even for something that is hardly what I would call criminal. I ended up getting deported. I was living on Oahu back then and thank goodness and Mahalo for a friend that helped get me out of there.
Man, that is so true. The only people that have any advantage in a foreign country are military people. Which, BTW, are their insurances that cover legal action in Asian countries?
Going to keep my Toronto rental brings in $3800 a month when its paid off in 3 years and keeping my home which is paid off until i decide to jump all in.
Kept the concrete one, eh? Spalling would like a word with you! Seriously, I never found being a homeowner, let alone a landlord, to be passive. I’m no longer a landlord, but I am a homeowner, which I will put an end to when I retire to travel.
Hi, thank you for your videos! I find these very educational and informative! May I ask you about the brokerage that you're using? Will the brokerage collapse and I lose my invested money? Thank you again for your time.
did you start out with dividends stocks/real estate from the start of your investing journey? also what do you think of investing in index funds where you withdraw using the 4% rule from your portfolio annually? - I think most FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) enthusiasts are adopting this method in their strategy. because I'm also in the midst of building a very similar portfolio with dividend stocks and rental income, but was also thinking to throw in a portion of ETF for diversification!
Great video today😀 on a sidenote, can you share what is your estmated 1 year living expenses (excluding airtickets to and from US and excluding medical insurance ) in South East Asia? Do you think 45K USD is sufficient for an average , low cost yearly lifestyle ?
quick questions: Do you still maintain health insurance in the states? and do you still remain a us/hawaii resident for tax purposes? Thanks for the awesome vids I watch every day you post!
I have looked into these I like that a dividend portfolio can be willed to the next generation That’s important for me But, heck, I’m no financial advisor haha
All of this info about your life and how you go about funding it could also sell in a digital book. I have 12 coloring books in my adult horror coloring book collection on Kindle, and I built that in under a year. It pays me $500-$700 per month in book sales on average. I do not ship anything or even deal with customers. I create the PDF, Amazon finds the buyers, and a 3rd party prints and ships. We each get our 3rd of the profits. If someone is late to the passive game, writing books, or even making activity books like me is a great way to build income. $300,000 at 4% is only $12,000 or $1,000 per month. Think about that... I make $500-$700 a month from products that cost me nothing to make, and I'm 11 months in. I can do this from a laptop in any country in the world. In 3-4 years I'll have over 50+ books under my brand. That pays for life. (as long as I don't get booted from Amazon)
This is very nice! Yes I have done some wonderful writing that I love I have links in the description to my books I’m writing again this year A fantasy for the first time !
Chuck this is amazing, congrats on a nice monthly income already after only 11 months! This is something I'm interested in also. Could you share some strategy or tips of what you believe has made you successful? Or care to DM? There are so many youtube gurus that I see in the space making it seem so easy to just start and make thousands of dollars monthly, when that is not going to be the case for most.

Very kind of you

Great advice about controlling your temper while abroad. Just walk away from conflict. It's not worth the massive legal trouble.

Yes true

Yes a sinking fund(emergency repair) is needed to repair. I sold off one of my houses. Changed it to passive income.
Oh my this is good ! Setting up that income :-)

I look at dividend stocks as buying the right to a cash flow. So i build up a cash flow that pay my expenses
I like this !
Good thoughts !
Thank you

I appreciate this story

That would have been scary yes

Hi from KL.waiting for markets to correct before investing in ETF again..meanwhile receiving 5% from cash...
Nice! Good return
Just like investments, when you're travelling most of the time. You really do need a bit of luck on your side when it matters most!😅😂
Such is true about life
I just consistently buy some stocks every month
There are some losses here and there but overall it’s been good
I just retired in Thailand at 30 and am living on dividends.
Oh this is great!
You know the way :-)
Your level head made the right choice. Whew!
Thank you :-)
Yes I have to be careful
Would you mind recommending some dividend stocks that you have invested in please? I would like to consider.
Oh yes for sure
I have several investing videos every month and I name my stocks
Are you really gaining money with real assets or just retaining its value while they inflate the money supply?
I can only say what I do
I invest
I don’t let too much sit in cash
Just an emergency fund

Great question
I tried a few other investments
They were so so
Dividend stock grew and paid me
NOBL is a good dividend ETF
Thank you for this
You need a few million with NOBL to retire! lol
Great topic! What do you think about dividend ETFs with higher yield vs dividend stocks?
Heck, all I know is what I invest in I’m no expert haha :-)

I spend under $24,000 a year

You can get every question answered
Chris, which dividend stock pays you the most?
Oh my let me think
I would say ABR
Are you familiar with Closed End Funds or annuities and can they generate a decent monthly income?
I have looked into these
I like that a dividend portfolio can be willed to the next generation
