Mitch from Cherry Audio here... thanks for the great vid! For those watching, this was a pre-release version in the vid - we've since added keyboard velocity amount knobs to both of the envelope generators.
Thanks Mitch, gotta go grab that update!
Hello Mitch any chance you could share how much effort was committed to emulating the filter? I am yet to find a really good analog filter emulation and at this point I'm convinced it's virtually impossible (pun intended). Cheers.
@@wesleyleigh4063 This filter was programmed by the Mark Barton. He's a formidably talented guy (amongst other achievements, he invented the original Syndrum electronic drum). I'm not a programmer, but for emulations, Mark works directly from original schematics (and has the ability to translate this really accurately.)
Obviously opinions wildly vary, but more than one of us here owns SEMs/Obeheims (I have the proto of what became Tom's SEM reissue in the 90s built into my modular setup), and we all found Mark's filter to sound incredibly close to the real thing. We also carefully emulated the controls ranges, mod depths, etc., though that can be something of a moving target, because every SEM (even within the same synth) is a little (sometimes a lot!) different. We're really happy with it, and we hope users dig it too.
@@progrockrules Thank you, much appreciated. Believe me, we worked really hard Eight Voice.
Love what Cherry Audio is doing. Just bought both the Quadra and DCO-106 and they are absolutely fantastic.
I buy everything Cherry makes. They could make a synth kazoo and it would sound great!!!!!!
You made some insane sounds with it, im saving it for later. I have had this plugin for a while but GUI is intimidating for me, this will definitely help me understand the plugin much better. Thanks, really
This is epic. I like the short presentation and the presets you created sound really good. Thanks for the video!
11 months later and I'm finally checking this soft synth out. I have the Arturia and the PA version of this Oberhiem emulation. I also had a real OB8 back in the day. I loved the sound of the OB8 and it was a great addition to the synths I already owned. Also worked with the Oberhiem SEM 4 voice modular ( no presets ) in the studio. At the time, it was a nightmare to program and keep the modules oscillators in tune with each other. But after hours of working with it, the sonic results were usually very good. So, this has made me picky about these SEM emulations.
Well my conclusion after working with these plugins is this........the Cherry Audio version wins! Incredible sound, great delays and reverbs that compliment the instruments sounds as well as the ability to really dig in to its synthesis engine. I paid a great deal of money when I purchased my OB8 and probably would have paid even more for those SEM based synths when they first came out. If your looking for an incredibly great synthesizer, at $29.00...this is a no brainer...
I'm really impressed by the great music you get out of this synth. Really impressive. Thanks for making these video's!
Thank you for saying this: "I'm not really a big fan of doing comparisons. I think if a synth sounds good and it's fun to play, that should be enough."
Really? I think it's quite a silly thing to say, if I'm honest. That sentence only makes any sense if he wasn't reviewing a synth that is based on a real synth...
@@PauloARod It’s fine. We don’t have to value the same things. I’m happy. If you’re happy, then we’re all good, no? 🍻
@@argiopeMusic Yeah, it's not an issue at all, just making conversation. Cheers for that beer ;)
If a synth sounds as good as this, it indeed doesn't matter if it sounds exactly the same as the original. In the end what we're all after is the most beautiful sound, and in my opinion Cherry Audio does deliver at that.
Thank you. This video helped me. I like how you have the synth like the way I'll see it and you in the corner. Nice
Thank you. I just bought the Eight Voice and this was very helpful. :)
sounds perfect. thanx
Cool! I've been looking for a fully per-voice multi-timbral synthesizer for a while and this may well be it! I like the possibilities for tweaking the different voices on my Arturia SEM V, but this is on another level completely
Checked out your video before buying today. Have to say this is the real deal - sounds and handles like a real synth. Typically with plugins the registration and authentication is Byzantine, but well worth the effort for an affordable and multi--faceted synth emulator.
Cherry Audio is really going for it! I love the sound of the 2600, the 106 and Voltage Modular - they might be new but IMO it's better than Arturia. I have Oberhausen but this looks better to me.
Oberhausen is still great for getting mono sounds quickly... plus the TMT with Unison mode is cool. This is my favorite Cherry Audio synth of the bunch so far though and for 29 bucks, totally worth it for the extra 7 voices :)
24m15s, plucked lead.... ♥♥♥
Great job on this vid. A lot of other people rush along with no pauses. Perhaps its how they edit the video. They don't leave time for you to let anything sync in, I spend the half the trime trying to search the screen for where they just said they clicked.
Anyway, thanks for doing a great job and going at a good pace.
This is brilliant and they have just whipped GeForce into the long grass here. I ran the demo earlier and it is brilliant - 8 individually controllable voices each assignable to the great sequencer that can be changed from 1-8 steps, the ability to view 2 voices at a time with the layout switching at the top, this synth emulation is the best I have ever seen and I have GeForce's MiniMonsta. Those are my thoughts. I can't wait to get the spare $29.
Just whack it on a credit card:).
Life is too short to wait.
F..k it.
@@maydaygoingdown5602 I got it off Plugin Boutique using paypal credit in the end (don't have any credit cards, they do my head in) :) (sorry, this is my other youtube account, I forgot to change back)
When it comes to Gforce software, their 'Imposcar2' is my favourite synth of theirs. Are there any alternatives to that synth available?
@@Music-tg5is not that I know of... I've played around with the real hardware and I love those keyboards. Could do with a refresh.
@@Music-tg5is Not that I've heard of (I only got it myself a couple of weeks ago), it does seem great but they should update it to make it more scalable, I was surprised how small it seems on the screen, probably because they were so far ahead of the curve, but will end up left behind if they don't reassess their pricing model or approach ... like OhmForce
Nice one Dude and nice to hear a friendly and familiar accent....all the best
I'm buying this and I don't even make music!!
You do now.
Your a rock star you k-no it!
That's what I'm talkin about!
Neither do I. I just curate notes from my computer
I'm buying it to annoy my neighbors... :)
Great review and sonic capabilities, I just wish they would do more obscure synths instead of just doing 20 or 30 of the thousand different unique hardware synths out there. I've got something like 5 versions of this including arturia and bx
I think the eight voice versions have enough extra to offer to warrant grabbing them. Only OB-E is really compatible to this one. For $29... Totally worth it for the extra voices even if you have other SEM emulations.
@@MarulaMusic haha, thanks for replying, I will later, I like supporting companies like this at this price point, I'm just putting soundbanks on my 6 hardware synths atm
Every Analog emulation is entirely a reproduction of the filter from the original unit. Like sure on occasion the signal chain and waveshapes differ slightly but what really matters is how their interpretation of the filter sounds, and somehow it different every single time, and I am yet to find a good sounding analog filter emulation.
Cherry Audio is making virtual synths at unheard-of prices. They all sound fantastic and give GF the send-off.
What is the CPU-usage like compared to other synths like DUNE3, Hive and Diva? Is this a system resources hog or not?
Nope not really... Voltage can get a little heavy but it's modular, other than that, Cherry Audios stuff is pretty modest on CPU use across the board.
In your honest opinion what’s Cherry audio’s best sounding synthesizers?
Best sounding is rather subjective... If i was to pick one though Id grab Memory Mode
Hi. Could you compare it to the OB 8 voice from Gforce? It would have been a blind buy but it was a sad day. At release they told that only Mac user will be able to use it. Cheers
I'm based in Windows so I can't demo the OB-E unfortunately. I've heard good things but to be honest comparing the prices I'd go for this... It's close enough for me and it's $29 on intro which is a fraction of the other one.
@@MarulaMusic same here. No Mac ;)
No you for getting back to me. Cheers
you have your headphones on the wrong way round 😉
He's in the southern hemisphere.
That lead at 24:33 !
You can use that to cut bread!
LoL at the cough before windows compatibility, another great watch
Got my Plugin today :)
Hey I see you are a Cubase user. How you record your screen incl. the Mic and the Plugin Sound?
OBS... I use a USB microphone though as a secondary audio interface. Cubase doesn't like sharing it's ASIO drivers usually but I have an internal loopback setup so I can record both the output of the DAW and the mic at the same time.
@@MarulaMusic hm... yes, Cubase doesn't like that. How you make the Loopback?
@@LabofmusicRecords you need an audio interface that supports it. Should be in the sound card settings.
That's looking kinda Obie-like...
I think Obsession is many times cooler! But for $29 it's not bad !
Obsession is an OB-Xa emulation. This is an Eight Voice emulation. Completely different synths.
Different synths really... Obsession is fantastic too, and actually gives you a lot of control over individual voices like the old voice chips would allow. Thing with the SEM is the filter... Obsession is quite different in that regard.
@@st0rmchild Both Oberhaim emulations !!!!!!!!!! Obsession 16 voice boards , read official site !
@@MarulaMusic Obsession has control over each voice and randomization of each voice !!!!!
The sound quality exceeds the analog synthesizer, which has been confirmed by many reputable sound directors! Cherry Audio has not yet created a normal synthesizer, it's more of a plastic parody, sorry!
@@user-se3dy4ph1u I'm well aware. I have both plugins. All Oberheim synths are not the same.
mac (cough cough) i just threw up a little in my throat........LOL See works both ways Hahahaa 😏😏😏
Context ... Mac and Cough Cough .. windows.
Both ways?
It was a dig at Geforce OB-E yeh?
It's got nothing to do with PC or Mac... Just a little dig at OB-E being a mac only release. I'm based in Windows and couldn't demo the G-Force OB eight voice plugin. 😉 There was quite a lot of discussion about it as they didn't confirm prior to release it was mac only. All their other software has historically been multi platform.
@@MarulaMusic Then again, Twsted TV might of also been pointing out how many developers are Win VST only,.,., In which case , I Sort of see his point.. Mac user here.... many things can be misinterpreted in txt...Either way, I just wanted to point out your reason for the dig, in case it wasnt clear,..
@@MarulaMusic
Aaah ok Heheheee......
I thought the cough was a stab at Windows users, the moment you coughed and said windows.... Heheheeeee.
Its all good 😏 heheheee.
I use Manjaro Linux for daily usage, like browsing and anything web. And Windows for just music production. 😏
@@TwstedTV lol, no worries... I used to be on a mac but switched over to Windows about 4 years ago.
Crazy low price
I'm glad to see this is politically correct ahem. I was so triggered by gforce - someone cancel them!
Lol 😅
@@MarulaMusic bought all the cherry synths. Fantastic stuff, sit very well.
Nice but you talk too much!
I don't really do preset videos, plenty of guys doing no talking preset demos out there.
TO MUCH TALK - TO LESS SOUNDS
and the PIP in lower right is wasted screenspace
