It's so cool to see how far he has come since he started the WAN show. I just left his video announcing that he's stepping down as CEO. Linus really is growing up in front of our eyes. It really makes me reflect on my own aging and mortality
Rotciv Vihc The show is live streamed from Canada. It is Friday there when they stream it. Friday is WAN Show day. This isn't cable or something, regions don't change what time it is
+Shawn Diaz regions do change what time it is? if you live in a different region you might have a different time, especially if you are across the world where you'd be good chance in the next day
I never watched the WAN show because I do not like long videos. I let autoplay take its choice and choose this video. I am now going to binge watch all of the WAN shows. This is much better than I thought.
+Sai Vantaram no no no... 75 watts is the power provided from the board only. but the slot can only support up to 300 watts total. meaning no cards designed to use more than 300 watts will be in the slot.
Just wanted to say thank you. I have reinvigorated my passion for tech after I came across Linus, Luke and the gang (and I work in tech/already loved it) and all this content
Linus aims high with having wet dreams about Joan of Arc, The Maid of Orléans died a virgin no man of her era was worthy of tasting her forbidden fruit.
PCIe 4.0 will allow you to run expansion cards at lower x speeds, so you can conserve your PCIe lanes more on your CPU. That's something a lot of people who like to expand a lot will see an improvement with.
@13:00 I still use my 1100T Phenom becasue of that. It still runs everything great. I currently have a 480 in my rig and still am not bottle necked via cpu.
Medicate MrBurtBox ***** I built my computer at the time with full intent of overclocking the piss out of it and making it as stable as possible. I stalk the task manager and Asus gpu tweak. The only game that comes close to maxing out the CPU causing it to be the BOTTLENECK would be World of warships. No idea why.. But everything else is fine under my 6 core 4.0GHz baby. Custom water cooling ftw.
Just finished my masters degree 2 weeks ago and have approximately $135k in student loan debt. My new job will allow me to live comfortably with a 10 year loan repayment plan that is very reasonable. My monthly repayment amount will equate to about one and a half weeks of pay from my job. This leaves me with more than enough leftover to live comfortably. I come from a lower middle class home and feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to get a great education. The problem with secondary education isn't the cost, it's the availability of student loans which I believe has not stopped me from achieving my goals.
PCI-E 4.0 will help a lot of consumers, the ability to run your card 100% on the board not needing the 6/8 pin cables should make cards cheaper, reduce cable clutter in your case and potentially make power supplies cheaper if they need less cables.
They're always late, however I'd give them the title of most reliable weekly analysts teck show because Jay and Jerry barely turn up, Paul and Kyle get jet lag all the time, The Tek comes out nearly weekly but you can't ever tell when it's going to turn up. At least with the WAN Show you know for sure that every Friday night you'll get something EVENTUALLY.
Glad to hear you talking about Direct X 12 and Vulkan, to me these API's are more important than the GPU's themselves in terms of gaming performance moving forward.
WAN Show would definetly need an audio compressor. Simple rack mounted unit would also visualize if the mic gain is too high (as the audio is clipping now in loud parts)
If you guys hire a crew to manage the WAN show one day, you could change the name of the show to Week Analysis & News Group. or WANG for short. Imagine how great it would be, the WANG show!
Linus thought the pizza would get cold from all the fans blowing on it, but in the video, it shows that it is secured in a cubby hole of sorts blocking anything like that. @55:15

+LinusTechTips Hey guys if you want to fix most of your problems with the microphone try moving to an XLR mic and a simple XLR-USB interface like a Scarlett 2i2 by Focusrite. Yea it would add another part of failure but it would be way less temperamental connection at the microphone end and 2i2's don't fail very often, we use them for room calibration during large public announcement events in the political circles.
@LinusTechTips, you need to remember that faster PCIe means that each individual lane will be faster. Meaning you can have fewer lanes to graphics cards and faster speeds to 1xPCIe devices. It also means faster device to device communications, like Crossfire etc on fewer lanes...
Hey Linus. The mic crackle sounded like a problem with the analog to digital conversion. Possible sources are: buffer overflow due device driver misbehave or usb port driver is broken.
On the topic of: "There is nothing that you can put in your computer that will max out the pci express 3.0 bandwidth, as a consumer." Mic popping could be excessive heat, as you said. Old tube mics are often flipped over, putting the diaphragm underneath the rest of the mic, as opposed to on top, for over heating reasons (I'm not entirely sure, though, that over heating would cause the popping). This allows heat to rise away from the diaphragm. If the popping happens again, perhaps give that a shot.

Linus review some of those Sony OLED 4k monitors for professional video mastering. Even though no one could afford them it would be cool.
Try playing minesweeper on it as well, and if not at least Candy Crush or Minecraft Windows 10 edition.
There's a lot of things he reviews that people can't afford, so I wouldn't doubt him doing a video on it. :)

Actually, if the card could pull 300 Watts from the slot, there would be an athestic benefit because you wouldn't need any PCI-E connectors.
cough, fury x cough
sleeved pci cables look sexy, no improvement.
Yeah, but imagine having 25 amps going over those poor little pin-connectors... I melt smell, a melty smell ^^
It was actually misreported, and there will not be an improvement for power at the slot for PCI-E 4.0...
JTWorks yea. toms hardware corrected that he misread it, the pci will still draw 75 watts.
Haha, as a CNC machinist, I totally dig you using "speeds and feeds" for your pci-e 4.0 comparison page. Nice little shout out to us metal cutters.

When I listen to this through my desktop speakers, I get the crackling. When I put my headphones on though, no crackling.

They have a mix board, they should just get a proper studio mic and be done with it.
