@mattm2684 it's a toss up. What your dealer carries typically makes the choice. They do model slightly different. The hertz digs a touch deeper but honestly it's not enough to make a difference. The alpine r2 is a good bit louder but the price reflects that
I heard these things in a car from my Audison Rep…I thought he had a full 12” in the trunk with a big bassreflex… But it was this woofer in their standard box…And it sounded really really tight, deep and accurate

@@neilclark3243 of your looking for high volume booming bass sub then JL is the wrong choice. But even then if the gain structure of your whole system (all equip from Head to Amp and in between) then even pushing them hard they wouldn't have blown. That's not on the MFG, that's on you.
Donaldhastyjr4066 is correct. Earthquake Sound has shallow subs with voice coils mounted very similar to that Hertz woofers. They too have tons of excursion and are not very expensive.
Ive got 2 of these in my 350z, and i love them. Ive been in the scene since 94 and have owned jl. These are the first woofers ive owned other than jl audio. They sound amazing with a very wide range of clear musical sound. I can go from the 1812 Overture, right into NiN, than old school 2 short and the bass is clean and tight. They can hit hard as well. Ill never look back.
Kicker comp rt 12 gen 1 also able to mount all the way back of the box as well. there also rate at 800 rms each no venting on back with push terminals 2 for 500$
I have this same subwoofer at home, waiting to be installed. I still need the amp, but from the preliminary tests I did at home, it sounds very capable. It plays low and makes the furniture rattle. Can´t wait to hear it in the car 😀
I have this one cause JL audio equivalent wasn't available fast. I regret nothing, this thing ROCKS paired with 500w amp. Absolutely love it, and it works great in the custom sub box mounted in the spare wheel (not spare wheel space, but spare wheel itself it is 16' I think). This sub is quality. Paid 300€ for the 10'
Those DD shallows are the truth...got 2 of them on 1500W RMS in a 1.7 cf sealed box under my cargo floor and they take every bit of power you can feed them, plus I got both for $550. I heard the Hertz in my local shop, didn't feel the need to switch.
@kjbad1 yea man, I sell alot of dd's subs at my shop. Another unbelievable shallow mount is the ds18 psw12.... 600 rms as well and they get down. Just installed 2 in a downfiring sealed box in a 09 gmc sierra. They are my new strong 2nd to the dd sl line.

I listened to that one as front sub in a roadster, dual 10’s in an SUV and in other setups. It´s simply an excellent sub, considering the enclosure size and the output.
I'm not a "Nertz" fan and Earthquake still makes some decent subs but I think we need to put one of the SWS against this and the new shallow typeR from Alpine to really know whose the actual better deal.
They should do ok as long as you run them on lower wattage. I think if you try and run these infinite baffle on their max power they will hit their mechanical limit pretty quick.

Question, I recently purchased a skar audio preloaded box that fits the 2024 rav4. I was wondering would this sub in that specific box work well? The current subwoofer that comes with the box is and sdr12.
I didn’t do the final best yet but I will tell you. If money isn’t an issue the hertz were best but… way more expense. So out of the others the fosgate took the win in my opinion. I will try and do the final conclusion video within the next 3 weeks.

i currently own two jl tw3 twelves , my 3 ten inch w1s i use to run was louder with alot more spl. I paid alot for the tw3 to not be impressed. Dont sleep on subs like w1s and alpine type s subs. They are less that 5 inch depth and hit harder IMO
At some point, everything is a copycat. If it can eventually get better results, which another brand will, why act like it's a bad thing that they lost their patent?

@@joshholden8561 as owner of some tw3 12s id agree with you, alpine has the best shallow out right now. I tell people dont sleep on the type s either. Its semi shallow and hits hard for the dough. The 10 inch jl w1 is 4.6 mounting depth and hits pretty hard too with hardly no wattage
You are over glorifying that hertz shallow sub, the JL Audio Tw3 has 15mm Xmax, almost the same. Looks like they copy JL. The best shallow mount is the WavTech thinPRO12, it has dual spiders and has 20mm Xmax, blows the hertz out of the water, and handles more power(750rms).
Apparently JL's patent on the TW3 expired from what I've read online, they did improve on the design a bit though, more power handling, xmax, xmech, lower fs. I've got both and the Hertz definitely hits the lower notes with more authority imo but both are great subs

Uhhh i hate to break it to you but ive got 2 10" Peerless GBS series of woofers that are about the third of the price of the speaker that you're showing and on a 3/4 inch baffle you only need an inch and a half of clearance for this 10-inch woofer to fit. And i think i paid like 75$ each or somthing like that for them and new there like 150$ i think. And 200rms but take 400 rms all day long and 12 or 16mm xmax

i had 4 of these on 3K for a while in a 1.6cubic ft sealed box these things are no joke.

I’m running 2 of these in a MTI sealed box and they thump hard. Very impressed with them.
I have the MPS300s2 which is the 12" version. It's insane how much deep bass it produces. Definitely doesn't sound like a shallow subwoofer.
Me too!! I only have the 4 ohm 12inch version. Hits also very hard and loud, even from a sealed closed trunk all the way inside the cabin.
I wonder how these compare to Jl audios tw3 I have 2 in the back of my xt5 and they slap hard for being in the spare tire compartment

You’re right about those DD SL series. I just bout the SL608 to put in my Harley lids. It has a 12mm xmax and a 34 FS so it will hit the lows.

AND.. Earthquake subs are lightweight thus they use a NEO magnet.
Earthquake actually has a patent on their shallow mounts and at half the price, Earthquake is simply a better all-around deal for $200.

I replaced my JL shallow mount with a Focal KXS K2 shallow mount. The difference is night and day but at twice the price it should be.
For those comparing this to JL;
Sometimes it's not just about singular T/S parameters!
Alpine shallow is 600 RMS 1800 peak and has.neo motor and 4 inch voice coil and plays down to 26 htz in small sealed box it's the king of shallow.
But the Hertz produce cleaner Bass
