I heard these things in a car from my Audison Rep…I thought he had a full 12” in the trunk with a big bassreflex… But it was this woofer in their standard box…And it sounded really really tight, deep and accurate
i had 4 of these on 3K for a while in a 1.6cubic ft sealed box these things are no joke.
Donaldhastyjr4066 is correct. Earthquake Sound has shallow subs with voice coils mounted very similar to that Hertz woofers. They too have tons of excursion and are not very expensive.
Running the hertz sv165 rear and hc165 in the front.
Never disappointed me.
Liking these shallow mounts too.
Ty sir for reviewing these hertz 🤞
I like these a lot
Nice man. Have the sv's on my bike. Clean and clear
@Reflector-gb4vo loud and clear I'm positive. Wanting these shallows for under the seat of a cruiser pt cruiser 😂
I have it installed in my sedan and i love it
Absolutely amazing Subwoofer
Reminds me of the Phase Linear Aliante from the late 90s, which was even shallower and had massive excursion!!!! Still using one today!!
I have 4 JL 10tw3 under my seat. I heard 2 of these 12” Mille pros also under the seat and these things bang!
Those jl patents expiring opened up the rest of the world to this type of design.
And hertz isnt 100% engineered in house several if their amps share boards with polk, and a few others not to say they dont require high qc to make production unlike some companies
For that price might as well buy the jl
@mattm2684 it's a toss up. What your dealer carries typically makes the choice. They do model slightly different. The hertz digs a touch deeper but honestly it's not enough to make a difference.
The alpine r2 is a good bit louder but the price reflects that
Looks exactly like the JL shallow mount
@@LiveActionJacksonnot quite. The TW1 is only 300W and 10mm of Xmax.
The TW3 is the series these are copying.
I have this same subwoofer at home, waiting to be installed. I still need the amp, but from the preliminary tests I did at home, it sounds very capable. It plays low and makes the furniture rattle.
Can´t wait to hear it in the car 😀
I have this one cause JL audio equivalent wasn't available fast. I regret nothing, this thing ROCKS paired with 500w amp. Absolutely love it, and it works great in the custom sub box mounted in the spare wheel (not spare wheel space, but spare wheel itself it is 16' I think). This sub is quality. Paid 300€ for the 10'
I listened to that one as front sub in a roadster, dual 10’s in an SUV and in other setups. It´s simply an excellent sub, considering the enclosure size and the output.
Kicker comp rt 12 gen 1 also able to mount all the way back of the box as well. there also rate at 800 rms each no venting on back with push terminals 2 for 500$
What do you think of using this with a 12" earthquake sslap passive radiator?
I have the MPS300s2 which is the 12" version. It's insane how much deep bass it produces. Definitely doesn't sound like a shallow subwoofer.
I want to see a test of the ct sounds hydro
Earthquake actually has a patent on their shallow mounts and at half the price, Earthquake is simply a better all-around deal for $200.
I remember the earthquake magma. Destroyed everything!
I'm not a "Nertz" fan and Earthquake still makes some decent subs but I think we need to put one of the SWS against this and the new shallow typeR from Alpine to really know whose the actual better deal.
Hertz and others waited for JL Audios Patents to expire then they jumped on JL`s design. So they did just copy. BUt, did they make it better or improve on it? Does it out perform the Audio Mobile?
Nice sub never the less
Nice
Earthquake makes a killer shallow mount as well.
I have a Punch P3s shallow mount. I have been looking for a better woofer. I am thinking either the Hertz or Earthquake might be a contender
@@iamgriffcheck out the Digital Design SL608. I just bought one to put in my Harley lids. The specs are better than this Hertz.
Earthquake Audio are the original inventors which everybody else copies from.
AND.. Earthquake subs are lightweight thus they use a NEO magnet.
how about recoil? shallow mount suds they also have a similar design also quit a bit cheaper with similar ratings.
I'm about to put the 12 inch version in the trunk of my BMW E30.
Big Jeff doesn’t sell Hertz anymore. I just went ahead and bought this sub. I couldn’t wait for your results 😂
I am liking the 500 watts RMS rating
Wow 👀
I have two of those subs in my trunk. What is the best frequency to run them
30hz to 100 hz is a good place to start
Did it come with a spec sheet and any of the ts parameters on it by any chance?
They list them online
i currently own two jl tw3 twelves , my 3 ten inch w1s i use to run was louder with alot more spl. I paid alot for the tw3 to not be impressed. Dont sleep on subs like w1s and alpine type s subs. They are less that 5 inch depth and hit harder IMO
Nice looking shallow mount sub just the price is a little high imo for a shallow mount
DD sl610 shallow mount 14.5mm xmax..... would love to hear a sound comparison. Also the dd sl610 is 300-600 rms conservative......
Those DD shallows are the truth...got 2 of them on 1500W RMS in a 1.7 cf sealed box under my cargo floor and they take every bit of power you can feed them, plus I got both for $550. I heard the Hertz in my local shop, didn't feel the need to switch.
@kjbad1 yea man, I sell alot of dd's subs at my shop. Another unbelievable shallow mount is the ds18 psw12.... 600 rms as well and they get down. Just installed 2 in a downfiring sealed box in a 09 gmc sierra. They are my new strong 2nd to the dd sl line.
You’re right about those DD SL series. I just bout the SL608 to put in my Harley lids. It has a 12mm xmax and a 34 FS so it will hit the lows.
@MrILLryder you won't be disappointed.... I haven't had too much experience with the dd 8's. Man I hardly ever install 8's period lol.
Daym! I wanna like it, but even I can't justify the price. It's pretty, it's got style, it might even put in the work. Hmmm weeeeelll seeeee...
Does the shallow mount subs use the same size box as normal aubs? Or are they made for smaller boxes?
They are typically made for smaller boxes.
Definitely
they are made for tight spaces but will work in bigger enclosures also
They are phenomenal. Used two in a 4th order bandpass. Not many systems rattle our shop roof. Everyone came running when I first fired it up.😂😂😂
Damn... I like AUDIOMOBILE sub
🙌
Looks very similar to the JL AUDIO 12TW3 slim subwoofer
Uhhh i hate to break it to you but ive got 2 10" Peerless GBS series of woofers that are about the third of the price of the speaker that you're showing and on a 3/4 inch baffle you only need an inch and a half of clearance for this 10-inch woofer to fit. And i think i paid like 75$ each or somthing like that for them and new there like 150$ i think. And 200rms but take 400 rms all day long and 12 or 16mm xmax
Looks like a jl tw3
Yeah the patent jl had for them ran out so here come the copy cats
Exactly. He's patronizing hertz. 5:21
At some point, everything is a copycat. If it can eventually get better results, which another brand will, why act like it's a bad thing that they lost their patent?
Wow all that dough and no Push Terminals.. Pretty sad
Alpine shallow is 600 RMS 1800 peak and has.neo motor and 4 inch voice coil and plays down to 26 htz in small sealed box it's the king of shallow.
But the Hertz produce cleaner Bass
@@TheChrisplayer94 no it doesn't Rockford has a p3 aluminum shallow that's better than the Hertz and the alpine is very.good for a shallow.
@@joshholden8561 as owner of some tw3 12s id agree with you, alpine has the best shallow out right now. I tell people dont sleep on the type s either. Its semi shallow and hits hard for the dough. The 10 inch jl w1 is 4.6 mounting depth and hits pretty hard too with hardly no wattage
@@tjaprilgage I had a set of the newest Rockford fosgate p3 shallow subs with aluminum cone for shallows those are very decent subs but pretty pricy.
@joshholden8561 yea I really like fosgate stuff. I have three of the t series power amps , the 1500, the 1000 and the 600.4
@HIFIVector
what’s the out come? I’m waiting on you to give your verdict, before i purchase. Is this your winner?
Video next weekend on the shallow mount conclusion:)
@@HiFiVector man I have to wait another week 🤦🏻♂️
My finger is twitching to hit the buy button. I’m putting this in my new Ranger Raptor. I have a new Kicker KXA 800.1 that will be pushing the sub in a sealed enclosure
Try ct sound hydro 12
This looks exactly like the Recoil. Probably the same parent company.
Sorry, I was wrong. I went back and their newer one is Neo and double surround.
I would just buy the Sundown SML subs instead of these. Those spade terminals are a no go.
Pioneer premier shallow mounts hit harder
9:21 0.8mm excursion is a tweeter domain man. :D
You caught my blooper! Lol
👍👍👍...🍻👊
Hmm jl audio tw3 anyone? On a tw1 chassis?
Spade connector?????
They have updated to push terminals on the newer ones.
too expensive. Can you test Focal Sub 10 SLIM. ??
1000 rms?
Sure looks like the JL 12 TW3
look alot like the jl
$450 each! They should work without a box😂😂😂.. Dammmm!
You clearly aren't into higher end sq, and you certainly didn't grow up in the 90s if $400 is considered expensive
@melissathompson7229 sorry to disappoint, but I did grow up in the 80's - 90's. I did grow up in the big stereo times. I have installed sq systems too. My personal opinion are the subs are a bit pricey. We need not get into who you THINK I am or what times I grew up in. Lay off the Shit 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
Earthquake SWS all day long.
Needs to bee 199
Good lord 🦾🦾🦾
The prices is a lot for a shallow mount
I'm puzzled by the subs in your thumbnail having push terminals yet the examples you physically showed are spades...
Mine must have been older production before they changed to push terminals.
Bice sub Netherlands the less bud
🤑🤑hertz are great but still hertz the pocket.. 🤑🤑
Yep lol good stuff but definitely pricey. But like JL that’s the market they are trying to cater to I think.
Design looks like jl audio for that price would rather go for jl
These speaker leads are definitely not factory...
That is a straight up copy of JL
Im not into JL so I didn’t catch that. But you guys are right it looks like a JL for sure.
@@HiFiVector it’s cool. It’s like a tw3 but with a tw1 frame
Yea they don't copy JL , NOT AT ALL 😅
Jl shallow mounts are crazy
Apparently JL's patent on the TW3 expired from what I've read online, they did improve on the design a bit though, more power handling, xmax, xmech, lower fs. I've got both and the Hertz definitely hits the lower notes with more authority imo but both are great subs
Same manufacturer
Pioneer did the style first and everyone just put there spin on it .
Kind of funny how he starts this video off stating Hertz has its own engineers and create their own designs and products while he is showing an almost carbon copy of the JL Tw subwoofers.
Yea well I guess I believed the Hertz cool aid but you guys are right it definitely does lol ok like a JLcopy. I haven’t messed with JL much so I didn’t catch that but man now I wish I could edit that out lol
The design patents on the JL Audio shallows expired...and then Hertz shallow subs magically appeared
My motto is to just add more energy to make it smaller.
450 and no push terminals... lol
Moist
Can’t say they were engineered by Hertz..:this is literally a copy and paste of the JL
cool sub but it aint no damn $450 cool..
Yea I kinda agree but then again there are people that pay $1200 for a 500 watt amp from the “high end” brands. So I guess for some people that have the money to burn it doesn’t matter but I’m with ya.
@@HiFiVector different strokes i guess.
For 400 to 500 I'm not impressed sorry
Yeah always someone…You need to take in account the tight spaces this will make giant bass from..
I bought mine in germany for 280€
@@justkiddin1980he’s right. It’s not that impressive. The ds18 isx 12 and 10 are half the cost and perform just as well.
@@MrILLryder Yeah they are literally almost twice the price in America
These things are stupid expensive alpine has the best shallow.
That actually sounded really bad. Sorry but you saying it sounds so good did not swing me.
I can tell you it sounds absolutely amazing and completely clean
Maybe his microphone was distorting
I have the mps 250 and they are phenomenal in a closed box
@@TheChrisplayer94 Listening to youtube with their added data and audio compression is always an issue . I listened to this over a Rotel system with a B&W sub and hmmm it did not get me or my sub going.
copied jl audio
I know you haven't finished this series but , if possible could you grab an mb quart discus shallow mount and possibly the ct sounds hydra.. my reasoning is I am building an active 3 way set up in my sl550 and I'll be building an enclosure in the kicks for an 8" sub. I know you are doing 10's but , it will give me a very good idea.. @@hifivector
I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@HiFiVector the ct sounds hydro would be a good test subject. Cheap enough and appears to be pretty decent
