      It's not like this represents the peak of "camera and graphics technology" in 2007. There's other footage from that year which looks much better than this. Hell, it's a year after Blu-rays hit the market and they're still the most popular physical media today. Canada is just five years behind the rest of the world technologically.

      @@NN-zf7np yeah Fed looted win after win against green Novak till he passed 20. So it was good for Fed at the start but eventually did not helped him. Funny that fed fans try to show this case as one-sided ignoring the other side of medal. Fed played till 38.5 and 2020 AO was his last serious tournament. Next two years he played just around 10 matches, not even tournaments, and just milked his sponsors. In comparison 37+ Djokovic won Gold, made semi AO and Wim final after knee surgery.

      @NN-zf7np 21 день тому

      @VladK181 I can agree that Fed was salty from the beginning. At the same time, Fed wasn't too shabby in his mid to late 30s having won few grandslams, many titles and finals , and world #1. Rest of your statement is an exaggeration and more your emotional reaction more than anything. Fed and Djoker mostly produced very excellent matches. Their head to head is competitive, which is no shame as they are top of the food chain players.

    This one's always interesting to me. They didn’t show all of it but a lesser known case of Fed squandering some seemingly unassailable leads. 40 love and 6 set points in total that 6-5 game on a serve as good as Federer's is absolutely insane on both counts of Djokovic saving them all and still winning that set and Fed finding a way to be broken. Basically the first known case of it happening against Djokovic and a bit of a precursor of what was soon to come in some of the biggest of stages.

    • @RobertOfenloch
      @RobertOfenloch 2 місяці тому +3

      I actually think that when Federer won the 2008 AO without dropping a set - possibly never even dropping serve - his overall game dropped drastically. You'd think it would give him so much belief but then he loses to Canas in Indian Wells and Miami, loses his Wimbledon crown, plays the worst clay match of his life in the FO final, plays so bad in IW and Miami the next year that he publicly says he couldn't wait to move from hard to clay. Yeah he won the FO but the random results kept coming. Loses to Robredo at ths UO. Loses to Seppi at the AO. Loses his US Open crown to Del Potro and in fact never won it again after 2008. Has his first loss to Roddick in like 6 years. Plays a crap gold medal match against Murray. Gets humiliated by Cilic at the UO.
      And Federer still had an almost untouchable career despite incredible dips in form! Makes me wonder if he would have been more consistent if he wasn't referred to as God following his flawless AO victory.

      @@RobertOfenloch 2007 he had a couple losses to Cañas who was clearly hot as hell for a few weeks, a few more than 2006 against an improved Nadal, and his first losses to a rising Djokovic; results-wise, not a huge dropoff from 2006, which may have been the greatest season ever at the time (or at least since Laver's Grand Slam, to which you can hardly compare it). 2008 was when the slide began in earnest, and it was the year he got mononucleosis. the mono was responsible for some of the poor performances that year, i'd argue, but the tour as a whole got more competitive every year after that, a trend that arguably continues to this day.

    Watched Novak since I was 12 in a recreational way. It is amazing that only now since I started play 🎾 can I really tell how much his forehand has been continuously gotten better in a non-trivial way from 2006 to 2015ish (and probably even after 2018 or 2021ish) and how his serve has been significantly improved in 2011 (and is still under optimization today to an extent I would say close to Roger’s). His net games and lobs are now near perfect as well. Only exceptions are his return-of-serve and backhand, which has been matured from ‘day one’.
    Incredible that he is still actively working on technical refinement at his 30s. No wonder he became the best and achieved this unparalleled success (nope, don’t want to talk about his overhead).

    This must have been horrific for Federer - after having totally dominated tennis over the last 5-6 years, then this young kid comes up from nowhere and beats him like this. It is interesting to see, that even at this early stage of his career, Djokovic was a master in playing the ball close to the lines (in particular the side lines, when possible). In my opinion, this has been vital for his success, most other players rely more on power and forget precision in lateral placement, but Novak has always mastered this, making the opponents struggle hard for each and every point.

What happened later on in 2008 and 2009 to Federer Vs Nadal was a lot worse than what Djokovic did to Federer because by the time Djokovic properly arrived on the scene, Federer was no longer in his prime and Nadal was already the best player in the world(won 3 slams in 2010). Federer has never defeated Nadal the king of clay at Roland-Garros (his kingdom); Djoker: 2 times (one more at the Olympics in 2024).
      The G.O.A.T. debate is over since 2023, and now after Djoker's golden medal in 2024... is dead.
      Djoker: 24 Grand Slams, 40 ATP Masters 1000 titles (record), 7 Tour Finals/ATP Finals, World No. 1 for 428 weeks (record) and golden medal at the Olympics in 2024 >>> Fedal (Nadal: 0 Tour Finals; Federer: only 1 Roland-Garros and silver medal in sigles at the Olympics). Nole has won the whole tennis, not Federer.
      Djoker defeated everyone since 2008 to 2024 (impossible stuff): Federer (defeated here in 2007), Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka, del Potro, Sinner, Alcaraz, etc.
      1. Djoker
      >
      2. Federer
      3. Nadal
      >
      >
      >
      4. Sampras
      ...and then the others.
      Djokovic: real domination in 2011 and 2015 (and also in 2021 and 2023), the strongest and the golden era of tennis (Federer, Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka and del Potro around).

    This was a sign of more of Novak's impeccable mentality to come in the next 10-15 years... I never knew at the time.

Then Djokovic beat Federer in straight sets at the Australian Open semifinals(Federer was diagnosed with mono at this time) and THAT broke the mental barrier over Federer for Djokovic.
