The Recruit is a no-nonsense 84mm SAK. Straight to the heart of the tools you'd expect to see and nothing extra. I dig it. Added to the mile long list. Thanks, Slippy.🤓
The good thing about the recruit is the back springs are much stronger than the usual ones with the backside tools? The newer version are the best in this model as it has the centre rivet that was never used on early versions ,so the scales weren't held in the centre of the knife so often the scales bowed out ! The recruit is a classic pocket knife style clean and tidy and very good value on Amazon! Well worth a look.
Just ordered this one,, I think that so many things these days, are not as good as they used to be, (yep, I'm old, 🤣), so it's refreshing to see that the quality of Victorinox knives is totally superb, as they always have been,, great video thanks,,
Thanks for sharing about this cool SAK. What I like about Victorinox is they are consistent in their quality; it's not often you hear about one leaving the factory with poor fit & finish or dull blades. I only have one 84mm SAK, the Bartender and it has my name engraved in it. I got it as a gift over 20 years ago now. Anyway, thanks for sharing and Cheers!
Really tempted to get another one now Mat😀 Seeing your review has reminded me why I liked carrying mine, the size and tool set make for a great inoffensive urban edc. Best wishes
The 84 model is as practical as the 91 model which i have the most of, not that different in size. The 74 models do make quite a difference in comparison. Nevertheless a really usefull model the Recruit, for most daily things it will just do fine. Thank you for showing Matt. What is your favourite size SAK?
I hadn't seen the Recruit before. Looks like a great minimalist tool that has the basics covered. Check out the regular Tinker as opposed to the Super Tinker. It's larger at 91mm but is only 2 layers thick. The advantage is it has a Philips screwdriver and an awl on the back in addition to the same exact set of tools on the main side.
The recruit is perfect, just the basics, it is the base of almost every Swiss Army knife, take a look at the Super Tinker or the Huntsman, or maybe even the Swisschamp. They all have these tools. The perfect EDC
You really do get a lot for your money with a victorinox don't you ? Plus the fit and finish is second to none ( I've never found better anyway ). In fact, their all round quality for the price is amazing. I'm not sure how they do it to be honest lol.
Just got it as a lighter version of my favourite, the Spartan. Must test it out for a while. Must say it feels promising, but i would probably be a needy baby for the eyeglass screwdriver.. ;)
Happy Tuesday Slipjoint Sawer, I have liked & Subscribed, I am Subscriber 798. All of us longtime SAK EDC users & collectors have differing opinions on what constitutes an excellent First Carry SAK and since we are specifically discussing the 84mm range, here are my recommendations for two other First Carry 84mm SAK's and they are 1) the 84mm Bantam and 2) the 84mm Waiter. As a child in London, England at age 8 I was gifted a 58mm red Classic as my key key ring knife and at age 10 I bought out of my saved up pocket money an economy model (no tweezers, toothpick or key ring) 84mm Bantam which I carried at school back when England was still England & not Engladesh. I had it for many years well into my teen years as well as lock blade Buck 110 Folding Hunter. For decades I have lived in Tel Aviv Israel which has none of the UK's knife carry restrictions, and have a large number of SAK's ( Victorinox & Wenger and Swiss Buck / Wenger) as well as many other brands of all blade sizes & locking mechanisms that are not UK legal. I am now retired but in my last place of work for 34 1/2 years I carried both a 58mm key ring SAK & an 84mm Bantam (also an economy model but with a key ring & now refitted with new scales with scale tools) and as an alternate to the Bantam I carried the 84mm Waiter. Both are slim single layer 84mm SAK's with the medium / small blade & combination tool & the Waiter adds the corkscrew as a back layer tool. I managed with both despite them not having either a scissors, small blade or nail file as I always carried a 58mm SAK of some kind, often a Manager, a Mini-Champ, Midnite Mini-Champ & currently a SilverTech scaled Midnite Manager on my key ring which covers all the really useful tools a man (or a woman) needs in an urban working environment and all are UK legal. Thank you soo much for taking the time to go through all of this! Very jealous of the first knife you were given at 10 years old! I wasn't gifted mine until my 21st from my father 🙏🏼🫡
@@SlipjointSawyer Cheers mate, those were different times & I was 8 when I got a key to the door & my uncle who was a SAK user bought me a 58mm red Classic (ie with the nail cleaning tip) to put on my door key. I was 10 when I bought the 84mm Bantam, I had several classmates who had 91mm Spartans & Tinkers but my pocket money only covered a Bantam which was on sale as it was a display model. Does your dad carry a SAK or not? My late father carried some old made in Sheffield pocket knife with one medium blade & a small pen blade, I remember it had damaged / cracked bakerlite (?) brown handles & had a bale that was loose, I have no idea what happened to it, we were poor & my dad had very few personal possessions, an old Ronson lighter, a cheap watch & a pair of stainless steel cufflinks which I still have somewhere.
Great review as usual Slippy 🫡 A solid choice for an EDC. Also that plastic toothpick is great for clearing the fluff etc out of charging ports on mobiles!

Definitely a perfect no nonsense knife to have! Think it would be a great first knife for kids or adults 🙏🏼 thanks John 🫡
I just got one today as a Christmas present for my great nephew's first knife. He's 15 and I think it'd about time he had a knife of his own.
Perfect choice
Outstanding review, I absolutely love my SAK RECRUIT. I have had mine since March of 2017 and it still looks brand new and it's still razor sharp.
Couldn't agree more!
Most of the time, this is all you need. Great knife and great video,
Thanks Randy
I love them all, but this one has to be one of my absolutely favorites, just a fantastic, no-nonsense edc
100%
I own one, great little knife. I use it a lot for whittling, the lack of back tools makes it super comfortable
Agree, it's very comfortable
Great knives! One of the most handy knives you can carry!!
Thanks Mike 🫡

Shame about Case knives, they're resting on their laurels, and surviving on their past reputation, imho...

I really like the 84mm SAKs, shame they discontinued so many.
I know, they are soo good 🙏🏼

Im torn between the 2 after getting that 84mm, but I think the Electrician 91mm Alox is my favourite 🙏🏼🫡
Thanks Slippy, another great review, I have a few Saks although I don’t carry them often, mainly for self catering holidays

Great videos, keep it up! I love swiss army knives!

Can You buy a cool Victorinox chain for this little ring, to hang up the pocketkinife. Thank You for the good video!
Yes you can!
Every day in my pocket. Use it at the work and at home and sometimes on my walks.
Awesome stuff 🙏🏼🫡
One of my oldest, most carried knives.
Awesome stuff Zen! Definitely one I'll be carrying a lot

Great intro knife. Bargain! at about the same price as the classic. Great video.

What is better victorinox waiter or recruit??
For me, recruit
Waiter!
Recruit. it's basically Waiter with added tools.
@@misterkoben6780 No, it's Spartan, only small. Waiter is thiner, with screw and universal opener - much better!
