That chisel at 14:03 looks amazing... and then I looked it up. It has a sliding dovetail joint combining steel and titanium🤯🤯🤯 That may be the coolest chisel I've ever seen!

Thank you! In fact, my experience is only great when working on machines, and I am an absolute beginner in hand tools, I only learned how to handle a hand plane a little last year :) So let's learn together!

@@gr_woodworking Thank you for your response. I am new to hand tools also, going to take a class to learn how to cut dovetails soon. I hope someday I will be able to cut dovetails as nice as yours!

inspire by your videos, i bought a stanley global n5. still struggling to make it perform, not being sure the reason yet. it might be for being on a budged and unable to sharpen it to an ideal level, at least to isolate variables. Seeking sellable projects i can make with minimal, sub-optimal tools, plaining salvaged pallet planks for wood

I’m still learning to work with hand tools. I only started making some progress with a hand plane last year after buying a Clifton. However, as it turned out, the brand of the plane doesn’t matter. The most important characteristic of a hand plane is an absolutely flat sole. On UA-cam, you can find many guides showing how to flatten the sole of a plane on sandpaper glued to a piece of glass, but that’s completely wrong. The sole should either be scraped or flattened on granite plates using an abrasive powder, like silicon carbide. Only then will the plane work properly.
As for sharpening the blade, that’s secondary. You’ll easily feel whether the blade is dull or sharp-there’s no need to guess, it will be obvious.

Why does your video appear to be flipped? Are you left handed and wear your wedding ring on your right hand?
