    Have owned a Swiss Champ for nearly 30 years and it has literally traveled the World 🌎 with me. I have used every tool, some tools are more used than others like both knife blades, scissors, pliers, magnifying loop, tweezers, cork screw, flat and Philips-head screw drivers - don’t forget the mini screw driver on the corkscrew, and the can and bottle openers. While some may chuckle and call me McGyver, this tool has proven itself invaluable over the years. They make wonderful presents to give at Christmas and birthdays.

    I've carried my Spartan for 30+ years. It's been invaluable. My dad always carried a pocket knife, so I do, too. It's not as common for us women, but it should be. I'm a firm believer that everyone should carry a good quality pocket knife.

      I am women, too. I also everyday carry knife last ~15 years.
      Now I am carrying 2- 3 knives in one time. My Leatherman's small multitool Squirt PS4 as a keychain tool works almost every day. Finger nail file, bottle opener and small knife helps me.
      If I need biger blade or biger scisors, in my backpack is the Victorinox Compact.
      Sometimes I add the Victorinox Signature Lite- there are LED light and nice, sharp small scissors, but not so proper blade, as my Leatherman's Squirt.

    The great thing about Swiss Army Knives is that whatever set tools you think you’ll need, there’s likely to be a model that provides it. My everyday knife is a Pioneer, mainly just because I love the look and feel of the metal scales. I’d like to put in a mention for the Sportsman too. I take it on hiking or cycling trips when I appreciate it for the more compact size and the built in nail file.

    Love the video and production value! None of them have the magnifying glass, which is priceless because it makes me feel like a kid again every time I open it. But the Ranger is a powerhouse. The chisel pairs with the Leatherman Rebar bit adapter, allowing the Ranger to be used with 1/4" bits. Also, the position of the hook in relation to the key ring allows for Felix Immler's t-shank saw trick. Pretty much everything you need except pliers. Enter small Knipex pliers or maybe small Leatherman/SOG pliers (I like the discontinued SOG Synch 1 Travel).

    I love your channel.
    The Huntsmen and Cybertool L are what I consider the best SAKs, though I also love my Ranger Grip 79 and my Nail Clip 580. None of which I use as an EDC, my Classic has that position though I plan on replacing it with a Signature Lite Onyx Black. I intend on modifying the bottle opener of my Huntsmen and RG 79 from a screwdriver to a chisel and the under belly into a ferro rod scraper. The bottle opener is useless and a chisel has more use than a screwdriver for bushcrafting, which is where I use these knives. I've added a SAK pen and a ferro rod to my RG 79 in the channel that holds the can opener and the bottle opener. The leaver arm of my Nail Clip 580 I also intend on modifying into a cuticle pusher, making it the complete nail care tool.

      The magnifying glass on my Champion Plus is great for reading fine print on my phone screen. It is amazing that screen resolution is so good now that we can do this. I remember when color CRT displays came out for computers in the 80's and the pitch between phosphor dots was measured in mm. A monochrome screen was easier on the eyes.

      For 50 years I avoided the corkscrew because I don't drink. I had a Tinker and then a Craftsman. Last year I moved to the Champion Plus (because I didn't want the bulk of the pliers and I always have a Knipex Cobra or Leatherman Wave. The corkscrew has actually won my heart because it will loosen knots. I love cordage and rope and good knots and splices, but I really hate random misplaced knots.

    Don't quite agree. Instead of the Camper model, it is better to take the Mountiner, in which a saw for metal (which can almost always replace a saw for wood, has a sharp part at the tip for small Phillips screws) and scissors. In terms of functions, it will be almost like Ranger, but lighter. Among two-row models, Compact also is better ( if need can put bosh saw under hook)

    I don't know why they persist with the corkscrew. Screw tops are nearly universal now and I know for a fact even the top winemakers prefer them for their reliability and consistency. I have a five layer VSA I bought 30 years ago and, even though I was (and still am) into wine, I deliberately chose it for the crosshead screwdriver in place of the corkscrew.

    • @bushleague3472
      @bushleague3472 7 місяців тому

      The corkscrew also makes actually whittling with the darn thing infinitely more uncomfortable, possibly if you were left handed it wouldn't chafe as much. For that reason I much prefer the Hiker to the camper, even though I feel the spine mounted driver is of limited use. On multiple occasions, in a pinch, I have trimmed an appropriately sized stick, and used the stick to drive the cork into the bottle.

    I'm sorry I'm just not interested in ever having a SAK without the can opener. I know the situation doesn't come up a lot, but it fits the bill of "if I need to do X thing, can I fudge the job with another tool?" Where it is just indispensable

      Mountaineer is better. A metal saw and a file can almost always cut wood. But a wood saw cannot cut metals, clean surfaces and nails. And besides, you can put a BOSCH saw under the ring, and they don’t produce such interchangeable files
