- After more than thirty years of waiting, Academy finally gives us a new injection-molded 1:700 kit of the most decorated warship of World War II: the Yorktown-class aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6).
I'm a tremendous fan of this class of carriers, so this release is close to my heart. Let's see if Academy disappoints or if they've created something worthy of Enterprise's name.

It is nice to find a fellow WWII Pacific Navy buff! In my last comment I said I was building the USS Antietam CVA-36. The kit comes with 2 different configurations , 1953 & 1956 she started as CV-36 then late in 1952 early 1953 she was classified CVS, CVA-36 was 1956, I am doing the 1953 configuration!
I am sure you have heard this but 3rd planned Ford class carrier is named USS Enterprise I think her hull number will be CVN-80.
While at the Pensacola Navel Air Museum I learned that a navy pilot that served on USS Enterprise in WWII donated 3 million to the museum to build a Enterprise exhibit. The pilot owned a car rental company. Yup you guessed it! Enterprise Rent A Car. Keep up the good work! ...Brian

Revell made a USS Enterprise CV6 many years ago, I think in the 50's or 60's. I am not certain how accurate it was, but it was about the same scale (1/700 or similar). I had it but is now somewhere in my mother's house, and I assemble it in the 70's :)

Hey!! Bosox 97 put me on to you and I am glad he did!! I am currently working on the Dragon 1/700 scale USS ANTIETAM CVA-36. I fairly new to model building. The kit came with PE now dealing with PE is interesting on its own, but at this scale Yikes!!! I have towers that you bend up 2 sides that makes up 3 of the sides then you add the 4th to it! Every one has their own way of handling PE! Just interested in how you keep from making your pieces a mess!Thanks Brian
Very carefully. :-p I'm not being flip, but there really isn't a silver bullet aside from practice and patience. My most common PE challenge is not so much damaging the parts during assembly, but losing them in the process. Damn carpet monster!
I came across with another 700 scale flattop. The kits brand is pitroad skywave. CV8 hornet Doolittle raid. Hope you can do a review video on this. Happy modeling!

Sorry, a little slow in watching this video. Being ship modeler really like watching your videos. I have 5 different CV3 Saratoga in work.
I am not much of a ship modeler but I enjoy your videos and in fact I just finished up the 700th scale USS Nimitz from trumpeter. Used the Eduard photo etch set and those tiny clear airplane were a real challenge. This was the modern day ship. I am starting on the 350th scale Arizona by Hobby Boss and I want to go with the dark battleship grey rather than the navy blue 5S measure which I just don't care for. I use mainly model master paints and I was wondering if the gunship grey would be close to the dark battleship grey. I am not going for spot on, just want something close. I am not a bolt counter. The only thing I am adding is a photo etch railing set to give it a bit of detail. I see some builds on UA-cam that look like the light grey that the kit is molded in and I have not seen any reference to that color. I am leaning towards the look of the one on the freetimehobbies video it is almost close to model master uero gray. Any help and info would be great. Building my Star Trek 350th scale Enterprises is a lot easier even with all the lights. Yanks for any info.
Hi there Jim. Arizona was painted in Measure 1 from June 1941 until her loss. There has been some controversy surrounding the exact color of her vertical surfaces, but most historians now agree that they were probably Sea Blue 5-S from the waterline to halfway up her fighting tops.
So, the color you're asking about (Model Master Gunship Grey) is much different than 5-S. I can't (and won't) tell you how to paint your model. All I can tell you is that the color you're considering isn't that close to the ship's historic paint scheme. In the end, though, it's all about what makes you happy and gives you satisfaction! If painting Arizona in the darker color will give you a better sense of satisfaction than painting her in her historic scheme, then by all means do so. :-)

I read that before 1941 she was painted in 5D color called dark battleship grey. It looks almost black. That is the color I was trying to come close to. In the youtube video on the freetimehobbies channel the model done by Yancy Christopher looks to be painted this way. In all of the videos that I see with the 5S color which they call dark navy blue, that color looks to be almost black it is so dark. Thanks for your help.
The boat you ve mentioned that is not present during Midway, will it be just the boat or that includes the whole structure that hauls it down? The frame around the boat I mean.

Please do a comparison of the 1/700 DKM Graf Zeppelin carriers of Fujimi and Trumpeter. They're around the same price $40. P.S. , I buy a lot from Freetime hobbies also. They have excellent prices and quick shipping. Oh, just scanning the Freetimes site. Tom's modelworks has a CV-6 in 1/700. Re-boxed?
Alas, I am a novice when it comes to most Kriegsmarine subjects, so I doubt I could really do a review justice. Besides, I don't own a Graf Zeppelin kit. :-p As for the Tom's CV-6, it's not a re-box, but an original resin kit that they offer in both 1942 and 1944 configurations.

Did you know there was a fourth Yorktown class carrier called the Wasp but it was smaller due to restrictions from the Washington Naval Treaty. Oh also did you know the Enterprise Is the most decorated (awarded the most medals) aircraft carrier in the world and still is today?
Though the Wasp was instead placed in its own separate Class

Probably not, though I did make a thorough Yorktown-class kit review video a few years ago before this Academy kit was available. In that video I discuss the Tamiya kit a fair bit. You can find that video here on my channel. :-)
Why didn't you build the kit
I have never heard someone refer to a sprue as a "fret" that term is typically reserved for PE. The industry and press usually refer to them as a "sprue" or "runner". I just ordered this kit from Scalehobbyist so this review was timely for me. Thanks for sharing.
there's a setting in your camera or software to eliminate the 50/60hz light buzz. Yours is set to the wrong one.
I agree that the fluorescent buzzing is awful. Unfortunately, the Microsoft Surface I use for filming doesn't seem to have that many settings built-in to it. I've got a review ready to go for the Trumpeter CV-5 kit, so I'm working at finding a better device or app for filming it.
I wonder if Academy will treat us to a 1944 fit CV-6 USS Enterprise? I own this model and it is STUNNING!! Bite my butt Trumpeter! I won't buy any of your spurious, vague USN CV models!
