- Tamiya's Saratoga kit is pretty nice in its own respects, and definitely has some clever engineering qualities. However, the special edition Pontos photoetch set that complements this kit is downright brilliant. Check out this video to see what you're getting when you open the box!

Got the kit from my grandson for Christmas, not the deluxe kit. Will start it after I finish 2 Revell 1:700 Saratoga kits. My brother was on her and KIA at Iwo Jima.
damn just saw this review and went on ebay found one for $50USD, definitely look forward to build it!
I am thinking about buying this kit along with the trumpeter Lexington. How close are they scale wise? I want to display them together but I wont, if both kits are not consistent with each other scale wise. Love your reviews.
Are the deck panel lines raised?
how would you suggest for the TBf / tbm and the f6f how would I make the radar on them and have it look good
The radar pod is already molded onto each planes' wing, so there's nothing you need to make.
TheMuseumModeler If I did not want to use tamiya's aircraft and use trumpeters instead how would I make that ?
This is just off the top of my head...but I'd try using styrene rod cut just short of the length you want, and use Mr. Dissolved Putty or something similar to make the rounded leading edge. Attach with extra thin cement.
TheMuseumModeler I will have to try that
I could see the Pontos deck seam line. It's not good. Can't see how you're going to smooth that out without ruining that texturing.
A.s is there spray paint line
Could you clarify?
TheMuseumModeler in your video you were talking about the paint chart and how you didn't know what AS-18 I think it was anyway tamiya's acrylic spray paint line is AS series
Oh, I hear what you're saying now. Thanks for that!
TheMuseumModeler no problem
