  • Time for a review of a ship! This is Academy's new tool of the most awarded and "fightingest" ship of the USN, the CV-6 Enterprise in 1/700 scale. Hot on the heels of the 1/350 Merit/I Love Kit versions (plus a waterline only Trumpeter 1/700), I go over what's in the box, some inaccuracies, an overview of the THREE instruction sheets and conclude that this is a great kit for an admirer of the Big E.

    Great little reviw there, thank you. The little insert in the bow is so they can mold the bottom in one section, without getting a huge sink mark because the plastic would be so thick in that region

      Thanks Nigel - yes I figured that was the solution to that quandary - although just as easy to fill a sink mark as it was to fill the box seam line! Cheers Chris

    Nice review. Looks like a good kit and certainly a step up from the old Tamiya waterline series. Look forward to you building it and folding all that tiny photo etch.

    Great review, thank you. I've made Enterprise twice in the past, but I want to make it again.

      Thankyou! Yes, its such an iconic ship. I ended up getting the 1/350 Merit version which I intend to one day convert into the 1944 fitout.

    While I'm saving up for the 1/350 Merit kit, I'll get the Academy 1/700. Just some questions: does it come with a paint guide, like Trumpeter's models? And what paint scheme did Enterprise wear during Midway?

      Hi Joshua - great question. The 1/700 kit comes with a very short paint guide at the front of the instructions - giving you the basic Ocean Gray, Deck Blue, Hull Red callouts with all the various paint companies to use, so its good enough. The Merit kit - which I happen to have (to make into a later war Enterprise) has a full colour callout - you can find it here via Scalemates www.scalemates.com/products/img/1/7/9/956179-37-instructions.pdf Hope that helps, Chris

    judging by the inaccuracy in the Trumpeter's Hornet and Tamiya not making full hulls of any of these ships, I wonder if it would be better and how hard it would be to convert this kit to either Yorktown or Hornet

      Interesting question, I think there's some 1/700 complete superstructures available to 3D print to modify this kit. Or possibly wait for Academy to do those ships? Cheers Chris

    Hi, what model do you recommend Tamiya or the academy's at Enterprise 1/700?

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Joaquin, I'd definitely recommend the Academy version, because its not waterline (but can be made as such) and has better accuracy and more details - especially the photoetch - out of the box. I would only replace the aircraft using the Flyhawk set or similar.

    Thanks. How would this compare to the trumpeter version (2006 rebox?)

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  3 роки тому

      Thanks Wade. From what I can gleam from online shots, the Trumpeter kit may have some better hangar detail, and their planes are much better as well. But they lack railing PE and the hull option out of the box, and there are some niggling inaccuracies (a Trumpeter hallmark) here and there. Cheers, Chris

    I love 1/700 ships but man the price is excessive regardless of age and quality.

    It looks like the elevators can be posed down.

    • @beckersmodels

      Looks like a fairly easy modification, adding some extra railings around and so forth. I might pose the forward one - not sure yet, definitely will open the hangar roller doors...Cheers, Chris
