3 weeks is not long enough to grasp all of this stuff. Try to find a school that is 6 months to a year long of training. I know people want to get in and get out as soon as possible but you will be more relaxed and have an easy learning environment if you are not trying to cram so much into a few weeks
TMC booted me because of downshifting. I just needed more practice. Driving a manual for another company. Smaller family ran company with about 100 trucks. Staff knows each driver by name. Get to interact with owners each week.
I learned how to drive on a Honda Prelude Si with manual transmission. It was a sports car with really tight gearing. Not forgiving at all. Couldn't imagine learning on a semi truck, lol.
Synchronized and non synchronized each have their advantages. On hills, I'll take a non synchronized (semi-truck). In a flat stop go environment synchronized is easier IMO.
They almost sent my roommate home because they found out he already owned his own truck and trailer. They thought he was there just to get his CDL and leave. It was a messed up situation. He ended up staying and we both graduated. We lost half our class in the first 4 days. Especially don't walk on their grass. They really trip about that. The hotel employees are watching you too so act right at all times. You never know who's watching you.
Thx Army vet here so I think I can get acclimated also, hopefully. I read people on the reviews complaining about orientation they probably were civilians lol. Appreciate your insight into this company. I'm thinking of TMC. Trying to weigh the pros n cons of flatbed. I see this video is 2 years old are you still driving manuals while OTR or did they switch you to an auto? Currently I'm in CDL school and I will be trying to get no auto restriction also. My thing is they are teaching me in a 7-speed synchronous manual and that thing breaks down a lot from what I'm hearing. It's a ford-650. The instructors keep trying to talk me out of it but I'm not going to change up since they said I could learn manual before I started. What did you learn on when you were in CDL school? Also, in orientation what are they driving 10 speeds, 13 speeds or 18 speeds? I don't mind driving a manual I actually want to drive manual OTR. Is driving manual an option once you start driving?
I’m a pre hire and am going to TMC next month, on completion of my cdl class. What should I bring with me to orientation? Do I need my own hard hat , what gloves would you recommend and should I buy a trucker gps? Thanks
