According to a UA-camr who tackled crochet's history, Overlay Stitch is used to make designs on plain laces (handmade, no machines). This is before the introduction of Single Crochet (US). After that, the standing lace was developed.
I've been trying to figure out how to do this stitch for years ,never dawned on me to make a mesh back.I always tried it on just double crochet never double chain one. I really don't know why I never thought of that, lol, this is one of those moments you slap yourself on your forehead and go duuh!! Thank you so much.
You are an excellent teacher. Your videos are easy to watch and listen to…instructions clear and concise. The first one I watched was C2C granny square. LOVE IT!!! It pushed me to buy yarn and create a blanket. Lately, I’ve been making dishcloths using cotton, and wanted to transition to something different. Thank you for sharing your talented mind and projects with us. I encouraged those I’m teaching at the local senior center to tune in to your channel. Loving you from the USA. ❤️❤️
The mind boggles with all the applications for this. You could write a message and make into a cushion cover or wall hanging! Working out a pattern on graph paper will be so much fun. 💞
Absolutely Beautiful stitch. Might just do a baby blanket with it. I have been crocheting for 51 years and I love learning something new every day and with your channel I am. Thank you 🥰
As a "mostly knitter/ somewhat crochet-er" I didn't think I'd be able to do this stitch...after the video though..and I say THANK you Robin :)....I've got it and I'm so going to do a black mesh with a rainbow variegated yarn
I love this!! I've been searching for just the right stitch pattern to use for a temperature blanket, and this is the one! Thank you for the clear instruction!
Love Love Love this pretty and unique crochet stitch!! I can think of so many projects that will work up well using this stitch! And it’s really not that difficult! Thanks so much. Robin, for sharing this with us! 💕🤗
OMGoodness, I love it. I’m going to practice different ways of doing the chains. I think they’ll give the fabric different looks. Thank you. I’m trying to be daring and start your lotus throw.
Fabulous! And the holes are filled in! I’m in Hanukkah crafting mode and this looks beautiful, easy and fast! Thank you so much! I think I’ll make some hot pads, but make some bigger projects after the holidays. You have the best crochet channel! You’re like the fairy Godmother of crochet 🧶 you make everything easy to learn. God bless, and hope you have a lovely week 💚🙏
The fairy godmother of crochet…I love that! 😂🥰 Thank you so much and your right, this one works up super quickly. Thank you so much for your kind words.x
Still my favourite youtube crocheter. there are many tutorials I've managed to follow on youtube but with some assistants however yours are by far still the best and no sited assistants needed. I know exactly what to do without finding someone. So please please please will you do us a tutorial as well as tell us which projects the jakobs ladder stitch can be used for. Thank you again for awesome tutorials.
Just found this stitch - absolutely love it 🥰 I have a mesh and what I was going to do with it was not working out AT ALL ! This is a perfect and very pretty solution. Thank you for sharing this technique.
Thank you! Waiting for that Picasso to come back in stock, as it seems a popular yarn with lots of podcasters.....I appreciate the time you put into these videos. Have a great week.
I watched this yesterday morning, and started on making a blanket for a grandbaby due in a few months. It is such an easy and relaxing crochet. I'm a little way past halfway through the main part and had to really pressure myself to not start on the coloured bit yet! 😄😄
Hi Robin! Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. I’m new to crocheting and truly enjoy watching them. I’ve watched so many that I can’t find the one where you start with a FHD and show us how to end the same way. If you or anyone else who remembers which video that is, I would really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.
Hi Robin, hope you're well. I don't know how I missed this one but sure glad I stumbled across it. I dont know how you come up with these or find these stitches you teach us, this is so great! The texture on this will make great dish clothes. This will be fun to make up a bunch for extra gifts as add on presents for Christmas. Im thinking a blanket using this & make the chain overlay diagonal would be amazing! Even though we all love crochet, a stich like this that is fun to do & has so many variations makes crochet seem fresh & new. As always thanks so much! You're an amazing teacher & I appreciate you so much & I hope you never stop doing your tutorials. 💜🤗
I was just wondering about one of my favorite crochet channels and looked you up to find that you had just posted a new video minutes ago. Love all your content! This stitch definitely is one of those strange ones that look complex but can be done so easily, will definitely try to add designs to my future projects with this technique.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ it. Such a versatile stitch. I’m dreaming of all sorts of things to do with it like probably a blanket for each of my Grandsons with their names outlined with this stitch. Thanks for this awesome tutorial.
I am so happy your video came up on my feed. This is wonderful. I am absolutely going to try this. It's beautiful. It looks complex but it really isn't. Thank you so very much for a wonderful tutorial. I just subscribed and absolutely gave you thumbs up!!! Have a blessed day!! 😁❤
i might do this to either attempt to make christmas candy cane patterned sweaters, doll size and human, or just an afghan for my neighbor who loved the scarf i made her last week.
