Hi Kris, , seems the N.A. tuned EV6 is much more responsive than the EU version, I just recently reviewed the big KIA EV 6 event and that was the main point,, very responsive on the accelerator?
We think oppositely about the interior. To me the Ioniq 5 feels too open and empty. And that very plasticky loose feeling center console in the Ioniq 5 also doesn't help. The EV6 interior feels sporty, high tech and still very special to me. Especially the shape of the center console, the curved screens, the pattern details and the ambient lighting make it stand out for to me.
have you test driven the Ioniq 5? I haven't tested the EV6 yet, but ioniq 5 isn't that "empty" once you are in it. But I like the EV6 interior much better. It is more functional too.
@@Astke I still need to test drive an EV6. I ordered one but it is not available yet. I am looking forward to it. I personally find Ioniq 5 to be good because I am a tall person but I think EV6 will be better. I worry about the headroom though.
@@Astke the minimal interior speaks more to me, interesting as we all have differnt interests or views, I don't need ambient lighting in my car as example, I guess I like Tesla interior for being void, the dash and lines in the EV6 along w the shiny gloss black around console does not speak to me, but many love it, the side view of the car also, seems odd but will grow on one Both are great , pick what works for you
I think that there is so much Tesla fatigue from car reviewers yet the model Y in my opinion is still the best eSuv fun to drive. Not the smoothest ride but constant improvements, dual pane glass hepa filter and efficiency. It is great But I know that it is exciting to see something new.
The Model Y is fine, but it's old and boring. Furthermore, Tesla is behind in technology as other cars can charge faster, go farther, and can drive handsfree.
Yes, I agree. The Model Y wins on many fronts. But it is also a lot more expensive. I just got the Ioniq 5 (RWD 73 kWh, top trim, with Panoramic roof, and trailer hitch, and some extra's) for €58k delivered. The Model Y would be at least €66.5k (LR AWD with trailer hitch), but really over €70k with the basic self drive package I would like. Now, if there were a SR+ version of the MY with those options for under €60k, I'd definitely prefer that.
@@anthonyc8499 I don't agree. Model Y can charge pretty fast. Yes, the Ioniq 5 can do 10-80% a bit faster, but they're also much less efficient at high speed. So on a long trip, the Tesla is faster overall. And which car can you get that doesn't require hands on the wheel? The Ioniq 5 is definitely not the best self driver. Tesla has better software + updates too. I own an Ioniq 5, but I do rate the MY above it.
You mention the frunk, you need to re-review using the RWD instead of AWD edition then you'll have a much bigger frunk. But then if you only want to put charge cables into it the smaller one will probably be adequate anyway.
Superb review !! I 100% agree with you. For me it's also the BEST midsize EV. In Spain the EV6 GT version is priced at 67.250 € (paint included). For reference, the Mustang Mach-E GT is priced at 75.770 €, and a Model Y Performance 75.830 € (equiped as the EV6). Greetings from Barcelona Kris ;)
Using the phrase "Tesla model Y (Equipped as the EV6)" is not true. It should be "EV6 trying to be a Tesla model Y" ... The EV6 is not even close to the Tesla model Y in most parameters. The Tesla is superior in Technology, Range, Effeciancy, Multemedia, Cargo space and more... This is why it cost more than the EV6 and it well worth it !!
@@Itayc1The base price of the Model Y P, you might add the paint cost, and Enhanced AP. Because the EV6 has a Summon, and automatic park in its equipment. So it's logic that, you have to add that to the Model Y to make it as equiped as the EV6. Like or not. Model Y worth it ? You don't have even ambient light bro. And as a costumer, I can not take out the solar roof. Which has no protection at all. And what about the trunk with no cover ¿?

@@splashmaster2000What I have learned from daily driving about 10 cars in 4 years (long story) is that in 9/10 cases you learn how to use an infotainment in about 1-2 weeks. The Kia one is no different and is actually a lot better to use than many systems (not as good as premium brands of course). It is really not that bad. The lack of an ev specific route planner? Well I'll just use Android Auto for that one time a year that I go on a road trip. For 99% of driving you really don't need a route planner do you? Or is your daily commute 500 km?
@@Astke As a Kia owner for 3+ years (and no software updates or fixes), I can tell you I hate the UX every time I drive it. And, with these EGMP cars, it is just worse. I also don't like the lack of a powered steering wheel and I find the adjustments way too limited. I would also like the easy exit feature to do lower the seat instead of just moving it backwards. Having test driven several, I have found that BLISS, RCTA and even LKA varied greatly. Poor quality control or a poor system? I rented a Tesla MY for a month, what a difference. At approximately $12,500 more than a fully optioned Ionic 5 after Federal tax credit, I think the MY is worth it. A bit of a stretch as the MY doesn't have cooled seats, 360 view camera, V2L or a nearby dealer. I do intend to rent an Ionic 5 for a month just to make sure before my MY arrives next year.
@@DiscoveryOwners i don't think the Kia system is that bad really. Sure the Tesla one is a lot better. But if that is a 10/10, this is a 6/10. Not as good but not horrible either. At least that is my verdict. It is apparent that the Kia way of doing things is something you disagree with. But does that make is objectively bad? Hardly. Besides, I have already installed a software update myself through their own software which made it a bit snappier and overhauled the EV menus. So they are actually improving things. There is also proof of OTA coming soon.
Having test driven the EV6 the experience was quite less positive: - delay/lag in the accelerator pedal both in one-pedal mode as well as "normal" - cold feet even when setting the AC at 24 degrees (the climate control basically sucks) - floor in the back is too high so knees are bent when sitting in the back seat. - can't slide feet under the front seat to combat the issue above - usable boot space (= floor to top of the back seat) is very small, gains little space when you remove the double floor. - lane keep assist is too aggressive - demo car got a BMS red alert warning ("go straight to the nearest Kia dealer") at the end of the test drive. It was a new car, less than 1500km on the clock. Edit: this was an LR RWD Plus model. I was in the market for an AWD GT-Line but all of the above dropped the EV6 from the shortlist.
Thanks for another comprehensive EV review Kris, very interesting as always. But... 'best EV on sale'...? My Polestar 2 heart bleeds, Kris! What happened? ;)
The Polestar 2 cockpit is just too cramped. My right knee bangs up against the center stack which makes it impossible to stretch out. Otherwise, it's a really sharp looking crossover/hatchback/sedan EV that's got good range, is very quick, and handles like a beast up a twisty road.
@@Astke fortunately we all have different tastes & priorities; as a P2 driver I look at your criticisms and think: definitely no, no, nope and no. I am extremely happy that there is so much choice in good EV's now - so I feel no need to knock any of the others (certainly not if I haven't owned or driven them).Ps: my comment to Kris was made jokingly, I think he get's it :)
Thanks for the Video Kris. Definetly not my car. I find especially the rear rather ugly. Price tag too high imho. Route planning questionable and cold gating... Ride comfort for a family car not good enough.
Yes, its great, according to Kris. What floats his boat might not float others boats. For me, it's a big no no with the EV6 since it's lacking true OTA updates. So that boring, laggy, outdated E-Niro-infotainment system might get updated but things such as battery heat management and heat pump updates won't happen with this car. Rumors say Ioniq 5 is coming with true OTA in 2022 with the bigger battery. I also find the throttle, Regen and brake not being calibrated well enough. So best EV according to Kris - not according to me and others
I think its has a lot of practial issues for a family car. Tried it and found so much irritating stuff that I did not order one. A good EV,but not a good family car

I looked at many videos but still can’t find the looks appealing. I think it’s a very confused look. Specially the back is just hideous. And the front is blah. No not cutting it.
It’s definitely not a bad car, but build quality didn’t impressed me, especially because of the price tag, being on the same level with Volvo XC40, Polestar 2 or M3/MY, starting at CHF 49950.- and with AWD as GT Line from CHF 66950.- in Switzerland. The wireless charging pad is useless, because braking once harder, I’ll make your smartphone fly through the cabin.
About the wireless charger. definitely not the case. Have had the car for a month now and after driving it in a sporty way quite a few times, the phone has never even moved. It has a grippy surface and a lip that is high enough. Build quality and materials definitely impressed me more than the q4 e-tron and ID.4 and felt on par with Mach-e and Enyaq. Q4 e-tron and Mach-E are more expensive as well (especially that e-tron). Maybe not on par with the Tesla Model Y or iX3 but those are actually quite a bit more expensive in general. XC-40 I feel is the only one with a similar price which outright beats the EV6 for materials. But that car has less room, less range and charges slower (even when you cold gate in the EV6 a bit).
@@Astke About the wireless charger, it’s what happened to me, I’ll driving for a TV production. Try a emergency stop once… About the build quality of the VW MEB cars, I’m definitely with you, I’ve never seen so much cheap plastic, for that much money, especially in the very expensive Q4, it’s CHF 20‘000 more than the XC40, and missing 100PS. Charging the XC40, since OTA Update 1.7 inkluding preconditioning, even on cold temperatures, is very good now. Got ~150kW within 90 seconds, using a HPC charger, you only have to ad the charger as a destination in the Google Maps navigation.
I do not quite understand how this vehicle became the best electric vehicle when in every comparative category you used the phrase "not as good as ...". This vehicle in no way approaches the Tesla Model Y. Not in technology, not in performance, not in range, not in efficiency , not in multimedia and not in cargo volume. The difference in charging speed is not significant and also the difference in price is not particularly significant in light of the differences I mentioned above. I think Hyundai are making an effort to get closer to Tesla level but they are not there yet. I drive a Tesla Model 3 in Israel and look forward to the arrival of the NIO ET5 next year. I recommend you look for this vehicle as soon as it starts being marketed
The Model Y is not allowed to load a lot of cargo. This means, in the Nordics, that a family of 4 can't fill it up with ski gear, baggage plus people on a ski trip. This fact disqualifies it for many people here.
If you watch the closing statement I explain it very clearly why it is best and why is doesn’t have to best in any given category to be the best choice over all. It’s all about balance, good in all categories and not bad in any 😊
@paul garner-smith which manufacturer overpower the tesla ??? none !!! what exactly exites you in other cars ? they are less effeciant than any tesla. they are weaker than any tesla. they are 3-5 years behind in technology. boring you say ? you probably never driven a tesla....

Amazing car but extremely expensive EVs much become cheaper less than 25.000 27.000 euros! It is too expensive if they "care about the enviroment" they need to. Make them cheaper without VAT WITH 5000 10000 FREE SUPERCHARGING AND MAXIMUM PRICE 25 000 28000 EUROS OTHERWISE NOBODY IS GOING TO BUY THEM (I MEAN THE MAJORITY)
And yet, according to something I saw the other day, EV's already have over 80% of the new car market in Norway. Also, at least at the moment, laws are coming in that new car sales from 2030 across EU will have to be hybrid or EV, and the hybrid option disappears in 2035.
I just had Kia rental the other week. Horrible suspension, bad seats, horrible fuel efficiency, otherwise usable but not the least amount of fun. I would never buy one based on that model.
good joke ,TESLA is the best EV in the market ,on sale, off sale,is just is,rest are just bad tryies of replicate.Modely or Model 3 are both OVER this EV6 wich i test drived before i ordered a Model 3...so i know what i am talking about.Waited 1 year for this EV6 only to see it's a decent car but ,is no Tesla..it just isn't!
Unless you want to bring your family on vacation that is. 4 people and a dog, and we have about 20kg left for luggage in a Model Y. That's not even close to enough to pack ski/snowboard, warm clothes and food for a trip to the mountains.

@@joeisawesome540 i have. Even before I got into an EV6. It felt inderwhelming design wise to me.
@@Astke I still need to test drive an EV6. I ordered one but it is not available yet. I am looking forward to it.
I personally find Ioniq 5 to be good because I am a tall person but I think EV6 will be better. I worry about the headroom though.
@@joeisawesome540 Headroom in the front seat is not great. I am 1,78 and I don't have heaps left.

@@anthonyc8499 I have a feeling that the ioniq 5s design will not age well. It will feel gimmicky. I feel the same about the cybertruck.
Somebody didn't try the EQS yet. :D Forget this one, that's by far the best EV out there!
Sure... just to bad it's twice as expensive haha
Lucid would like to have a word with you. Also he is referring to MID SIZE SUV evs
He Said one of the best in its class, eqs is a premium/luxury class, this is just not comparable.
@@gery4870 Plus the model y cannot load a lot of kilos, very impractical for families on ski trips here in the Nordics where I live.

I have a pre order on the EV6 in Canada arriving May/June, wife may take it. I am proceeding with my Ioniq 5 purchase, get it next week, so looking forward to it. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work. In Canada the Ioniq 5 Preferred Long Range RWD is costing me $51,999, it comes with a 77.4kwh battery, the Preferred sits in the middle w an Essential as the entry model w 58kwh battery and Ultimate getting all options as the top model at 60K, AWD Preferred is 54999 cnd,
I am in Ontario Canada and the local Hyundai dealer suggested 8-9 months delivery if ordered today...curious how you are getting it so fast
@@TheVideotoaster I pre ordered day 1 as I was aware of the vehicle and had been following it already and once I saw it I knew that was the ride I would buy:) Car is at dealer going through prep, signing off and trading current vehicle next week. Suggest you visit multiple dealers or better yet order online, but yes there is a wait w Ultimate option being the longest, I was not interested in Ultimate
Kris is still the only person I’ve come across who prefers the seats to the Ioniq 5 ones (Carwow have even just declared the Ioniq 5 seats the best in the world lol)
Just curious, have you tried the RWD version? I realize you would like that drive a lot less, but the LR RWD EV6 is the top of my price range, comparing that to Audi Q4 AWD and VW ID.4 AWD. For my wife, and she doesn’t like the look of the Ionic5 and doesn’t want a Mustang, so those are out. Thanks!!
You are absolutely right. Best EV with many goodies other BEVs dont have.
800V, 230V AC power supply/V2load, even with AWD a small frunk, if wanted a sunroof, ventilated seats, sporty driving, very nice practical interieur. Hopefully some software issues will be fixed with the next update.
I think you need a akute visit at the optician if you think this duck looks ok, Kris,, 😵,, 🤣🤣🤣.
Naaahh,, only joking of course. Taste are fortunately different. The world would be a superboring place if not.
Thanks again and again for your time and work, and have a lovely holliday❣️❣️

Tbh the fact that it doesn't have a routeplaner is almost a dealbreaker imo
That and the fiddly infotainment in general. Also, the inconsistent and even bumpy suspension.
Or is your daily commute 500 km?
solution a: plan ahead and navigate to each charger which costs 5 minutes. not even. or B: Phone Mirroring. Also see my previous comment.
Having test driven the EV6 the experience was quite less positive:
- delay/lag in the accelerator pedal both in one-pedal mode as well as "normal"
- cold feet even when setting the AC at 24 degrees (the climate control basically sucks)
- floor in the back is too high so knees are bent when sitting in the back seat.
- can't slide feet under the front seat to combat the issue above
- usable boot space (= floor to top of the back seat) is very small, gains little space when you remove the double floor.
- lane keep assist is too aggressive
- demo car got a BMS red alert warning ("go straight to the nearest Kia dealer") at the end of the test drive.

@@anthonyc8499 I know, I drive one 😎
Common Polestar 2 criticisms: Kind of noisy, Poor efficiency (even worse than a bigger car like EV6), not too fast charging, cramped.
Frunk is bigger with the 2WD version, but yeah 4WD is laughable due to the dual motor.
Thanks for the Video Kris.
Definetly not my car. I find especially the rear rather ugly. Price tag too high imho.
Route planning questionable and cold gating...
Ride comfort for a family car not good enough.
Price too high? It is class competitive. You can't expect these specs and give it a 35K price tag. Even the 45kWh ID.3 barely hits that.
Today you get about 9700 from the gouverment, so the Real Price is less.
Laggy dynamic indicators no thanks.

Kia and Hyundai do a great job of looking like higher quality than they are
About the wireless charger. definitely not the case.
@@Chrisb8s Look and feel in the HYUNDAI is good, but KIA felt lots cheaper, in one to one comparison.
@@tomoldigs1353 strange that our experiences differ so much. I think they felt similar in quality.
I Orderd the RWD 77 plus in metalic black for 53000 the is inclused 9000 tax, I Will get back because I bougt it on the name of my company ( Netherlands)
that's not even close to an SUV. Crossover? Sure.
