  • How to perform your first service (1000 km/621 mile) at home if you either don't have reasonable access to a dealer or just don't trust your local dealer. We will look at the Aprilia RSV4 official service manual and what is required for the first service.
For those who have worked in the automotive repair industry, we know that many dealers do not perform the services promised and sometimes doing it yourself is the best way to care for your vehicle.

Cheers for the video mate nice bike too. I recently got myself a brand new 2021 Lava Red Factory with zero kms on it here in New Zealand lucky to get the carbon Akroprovic pipe and Race mapping in the deal. Still has 2 year warranty so i have to get my local Dealership to do it. Usually do it myself aswel though. Pulled it all apart for Radiator guards ect and while at it removed the servo and charcoal canister setup let those fans work better and less weight. First ride had engine light come on one of the top black injector plugs wasn't plugged in haha 7500rpm no power and light on 😢😂 sorted myself. Cant wait to run her in feels so much better than my last 18RF. I done the Full paint protection on it also, holy shit it was a long mission 😂.

Glad you were able to fix the engine light issue yourself! Enjoy that 21 Factory, these RSV4’s are great bikes.

I did my first service myself while ago and I didn’t have any particles . And I did
the 2nd break in procedure 1000-2000kms by the book(9.5k rpm max) . Most people and dealer will say it not necessary, but I trust what the engineers write in the book than dealer or people opinion.

You didn’t have any material on the magnet? Not doubting you, but I’ve never seen a magnet with zero material on it after an oil change.
I’m going to do the same as far as the incremental break-in period recommended by Aprilia.

@@ridewithKY Ok sorry, I mean I didn't have any metal shavings. Very light black residue on the magnet

I did an oil change after 4k miles in the winter and the drain plug looked similar. Had one larger piece of metal on it. My first service was done by the dealer so can't compare to that. Watch out for the clutch cover bolts. They must be checked and tightened regularly to 4.4 ft/lbs. Some of them have come loose in my case and then a little bit of oil sprays out. Installing a GB Racing cover makes it easier to get to them.
Another thing, although it says otherwise in the workshop manual, the rear wheel axle nut should only be tightened to 73.75 ft/lbs. Not sure exactly why that is.

Great tip, thank you for mentioning the clutch cover bolts. I’m not questioning your spec on the rear wheel axle, I’m just wondering where that number came from since it’s inconsistent with the manual? I’ve heard many say Aprilia often changes things in the service manual and then issues a new version. Haha.
Thank you again for the helpful comment.

@@ridewithKY A mechanic told me that apparently there were issues with the rear axle on the 2019 version and that's why they tighten the rear axle nut a little less in the workshop. It's an Aprilia specialist so I hope they know what they are doing. Hahaa ... :)

I believe I also seen on the forums that the torque spec is a bit high. Not sure what the number should be but there’s something to it

@ridewithKY what size of wrench socket do you need for the oil filter? I can't find it anywhere online. Just got an RSV4 and doing the first service myself. Thanks 👍

You wouldn’t use a socket on the filter. You’d use a strap wrench or other kind of oil filter wrench.
