There is a lot of confusion from beginners on this, if you want to create a V shape knitted fabric as shown in my sample here you need to do one row of the knit stitch shown in this tutorial followed by one row of the purl stitch, then back to a knit row etc. Repeating this knit stitch continuously will not create the V traditional fabric design called stocking stitch, but rather a fabric called garter stitch. This tutorial is purely to show you the knit stitch and I should've shown you on a garter swatch because this seems to have caused undue confusion.
I've been doing the knit stitch for a whole day and I thought I was never going to figure it out because it didn't look like this. Thank you for explaining.
I'm a 12 year old who can crochet and I decided to try knitting and I've been searching so many videos and this one was like the only one that I understood! You're such a good teacher!
I was a beginner knitter, then I crashed my bike, suffered a tbi and forgot how to knit. I'm relearning and this is so helpful. Making lots of mistakes but I'm also learning to laugh and continue. Thank you for your guide.
I'm 11, i started crocheting when I was 10. One day i saw my grandmother knitting creations so, when I went yarn shopping i bought knitting needles and I tried knitting for the first time, I saw happy berry knitting. I learned how to cast-on, the k stitch and other stitches from this channel. Thank you happy berry knitting ☺️ and also your crochet channel taught me alot of things 💕💕
That tip to push up the right needle when you pick up the stitch is super simple, but so helpful. It’s saved me a ton of aggravation and helped me to me figure out my stitch tension problem. Thanks!!
thank you, just started knitting (long time crocheter though :)) and could not get the hang of it until I watched your video, I still think my stitches look odd, but hey it's progress
Can I just say, you’re wonderful. I have literally spent hours trying to knit. I’ve watched a bunch of videos that don’t explain anything or they don’t zoom in close enough for me to see. I watched your video once and finally I was able to knit. Thank you so much!
I've watched at least a dozen different creators in the last two days and you are the only one who's been able to teach me the knit stitch. Thank you so much.
I learned how to crochet by watching youtube videos, and now I want to learn how to knit. Just learning how to hold the needles are a challenge, but boy do videos help. I actually was able to finally knit my first row watching your video. Thank you!
I'm pushing 60 , my grandmother taught me to knit when I was 6 or 7 years old. I haven't touched it in years. Now I'd like to be able to pass the skill down to my grandchild some day. Thank you for the refresher, hopefully it will allow that to happen.
Thank you for going so slowly as you demonstrate the basic and beginning in knitting. You explain each action and its purpose so clearly. It is a big help.
When I first started crotchet almost three years ago I watched all of your beginner tutorials. Since then I’ve come a long way with crotcheting, so I decided to give knitting a try and as soon as I recognized you while looking for beginner tutorials I got so excited because I know you’re a great teacher ^_^
I have not knit for years and forgot how to purl. Your video on that was the best and clearest I found. Thank you for using your God given talent to teach. You are very clear and it is so greatly appreciated!
Thank you SO MUCH for doing these tutorials. I think I watched every video on UA-cam before I found this one, and your explanation has been the only one I have been able to grasp. EVERYONE IS GETTING SCARVES FOR CHRISTMAS! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you xxx
Everything feels so fiddly and I’ve restarted so many times but your voice is so calming it’s really therapeutic 😊Thank you for this very helpful tutorial.
I’ve been trying to learn to knit and I kept getting confused on different tutorials on stitch knitting, but this video really cleared up for me parts that other videos obscured with their needles or went over too quick for me to follow. Thank you!
Thank you!! I was having so much trouble figuring out why I was having trouble and other videos didn’t talk about flicking off that loop. Thank you for helping me do my first knit stitch!
This video saved me from snapping my knitting needles in half! I was so frustrated trying to learn off of other videos. This is the one that finally clicked. Great teacher.
Thank you so much!! I've literally never knit before but have a beautiful row of knit and purl stitches now!! back to the knit stitch video! this scarf is gonna take forever but I'll be in surgical recovery for 2 more weeks so this will keep me busy and happy :)
I've never knitted before I watched several videos bought a book for beginners and I still wasn't getting it I found yours video and I actually got it the first time thank you
Ok, so I watched several vids. I’m a lefty so was trying lefty vids. This video is the only one I was finally able to grasp. I’m knitting, it’s fairly awful looking for my 1st go at it, but I’m pressing on to improve and to get better at my tension. Maybe I’ll frame it lol. I’m 46, only ever crocheted. I just learned to knit! Thank you!!
This is the only video I watched that demonstrated to a point that I could actually understand what was happening in that little knot! Thank you so much, I'm going to a knitting club next week and I want to come with at least a small grasp on how to knit.
Thank you for teaching knitting so well. This is the only one that has the most clear instructions.. i found your crochetting channel and then found this. Such simple and easy instructions.
i started kinitting when i was 4 i made many beautiful project but my house burned down along with all my knitting projects and my hands this video helped me learn to knit with my feet tysm
She only showed half of the process. You have to knit one row and purl the next to create the v stitch. Continue the every other row and you will have one side that is v stitch and one side that looks like purl (garter) stitches.
You can also alternate knitting every other row left handed for this stitch. That's what I assumed you did when I was first learning and hadn't even heard of purling until I had already completed multiple scarves and similar projects.
omg i have been having a problem with this technique and ready to just give up knitting but then i watch this video and life is all better again lol. thank you soooo muchhh!
Oh my god thank you! You explained it so well, you where not too fast and you showed what you were doing the best you could! Amazing! Helped me so much. I started a scarf and I took a long brake but I forgot how to do it! Now I know!
thanks for this tutorial!!!!! very easy to follow! I was worried for a while I would have to find an in-person class to learn but then i found you and im not worried anymore!!!
So far it's easier for me to crochet, but this video is very clear, and easy to follow. Any problems are on my end! I did have to slow the video speed down to keep up as a brand new attempt. None the less it is my favorite channel so far. Thank you for your video!
I came to this video from another one that was moving way too fast. You explained it well, and moved at a nice pace, as well as had a GOOD camera angle! Thank you for making this, hopefully I can really start picking up speed in knitting.
Ugh I knew it was something I was grabbing wrong after i wrapped the working yarn. I was grabbing the loop off the left needle rather than the new loop created by the working yarn. Thank you for the high quality vid
Oh thank you! This is the best video I found online for knitting and purling basics. I also find your voice incredibly soothing, the red yarn cheerful, and the instructions clear and precise. You have added a little joy to my life, thank you.
Thanks so much, this is an excellent tutorial. I was getting super frustrated and thought I'd never be able to learn to knit despite being intermediate at crocheting. All other tutorials are way too fast. Thank you!!!
i just learned this in 2 days. and i finally figured it out on how to do this. Im 11 years old and I'm the first one whose goanna learn to knit in my family member
OMG thank you so much! I literally spent a night watching other videos but couldn't seem to get it. as soon as I saw yours it's like a lightbulb lit up! you just made my day! :)
Would you kindly consider making a video on the best way to hold the yarn and method of speeding up. Also info on tension. Thank you. Love your instruction and I started to knit.
What I learned is that Nannies don't play with their yarns, I never knew knitting would be this hard, Lot of respect for people who can and would dare to learn how to knit
Back from Joanne's used a 40 and 60% off coupon got me some bamboo needles and bulky thread. And I got it now. I wasnt pulling the right loop off the left needle to the right needle.. your HD vid got me knitting!
Literally just started last night and so far I have learned two methods for casting on and the purl stitch but that wasn't the one that I was wanting. I have gotten great at the casting on part but when I get to moving it to the right needle I have difficulty getting it correct. Can't be too mad though since, as I said, I literally just started. So far you tutorial is easy to understand, and isn't as hard to listen to as others, I just have to get a little more comfortable with it. Edit: I have had to restart from the beginning 5 times now and I still can't seem to figure this out. Casting, great. Getting it onto the other stick, not great.
I learned to crochet when I was 19 now I am 65 and cannot get the hang of knitting I do everything I am supposed to do but it never comes out right about. 8 years ago I tried to knit and I did several rows but skipped stiches now I can barely get thru 3 rows it might be because I have arthritis it's hard to manage 2 needles or I just stink at it lol

Thank you for clearing this up. I have been beating myself up because it wasn't looking the way I wanted
Thank you for the clarification!!! I've watched about 4 separate videos on the knit stitch and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong 🙈
I've been doing the knit stitch for a whole day and I thought I was never going to figure it out because it didn't look like this. Thank you for explaining.
Wow ur legit saving my life coz i was thinking wow im rly bad at this coz its not making the V tht i want
Finally someone who explained! Thank you so much!! I was getting slightly discouraged 🥺
