Check out the full series: sheepandstitch.com/how-to-knit/
In this video, I’ll show you how to cast on knitting like a pro! This is the thumb method cast on. If you have no idea what that means - no worries! Just know that it’s an easy and super useful cast on that both beginners and old hands use all the time.
So, you’ve got needles and a ball of yarn. Cool! Now you want to knit something. But how do you get the yarn onto your needles?
Say hello to the cast on!
Casting on is a way to turn loose yarn into neat stitches that can be knit. It’s the first step in knitting. All you need is some yarn and needles.
What needles and yarn should you use?
I always recommend a chunky yarn and correspondingly thick needles for beginners because they’re much easier to grip. In this tutorial, I’m using Lion Brand’s Hometown USA and 8mm bamboo needles.
You’ll find tutorials and guides for making a Slipknot, Cast On, Knit Stitch and Cast Off. These techniques form a sturdy foundation in knitting.

WOW! If you're total beginner like me, this is the one you want to watch. If there is a way to do something backward, that's the way I almost always do it. This the best cast on video I have found. Her repetitions are slow enough, very clear, and she repeats instructions so you can really see what she is doing.

Thank you for making knitting.....casting on, knit purl stitch etc, Davina the way you show how to do everything you make it so much easier, I'm still struggling with how you're supposed to hold the needles and wool but other than that I knew roughly how to knit and purl through childhood when my gran used to let us join in BUT I struggled when I decided to start knitting 3 months ago but thanks to your videos I'm going to retry knitting as I'm a lot more confident with each different type of stitch and the way you show how to do each stitch you do it slowly and upclose so we can see how it's done, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH DAVINA please don't stop making your videos as I knit alongside your videos too thank you 🤓🤓🤓
