Wow! A video that actually shows you in "slow motion" how to knit as an actual "know nothing" beginner. Most other tutorial videos go waayyy too fast for us true beginners. Kudos for making this so easy to follow and repeating the steps slowly so we can actually follow along without having to drop our yarn and pause the video 20x, lol. Well done! I have subscribed and will be watching all your videos so I can learn to knit.
I have struggled to learn how to knit and crochet and I decided to try again to help with anxiety to be able to lower my meds. As well and not think of pain from other issues. This is the most clear I have seen so far. I made it past one or two stitches without wanting to quit!

I sit and watch all those complicated methods and shake my head, why would you cast on any other way than the THUMB method
My mum taught me the thumb method too! (I had just forgotten some of how to do it but it came back to me). Her mum used to knit pullovers as a job in Ireland mid last century, didn't get paid much though. Unfortunately I seem to have been taught the English method of knitting which is slower than Continental, Shetland etc etc so I will have to retrain my muscle memory somehow. Omg, after watching so many tutorials for beginners on how to start a cast on. They were either to fast or complicated. But your tutorial was precise, slow, and to the point. Thank you so much, you helped me big time. These other bloggers need some tips from you😊❤
I've been crocheting for about 8 years and finally decided to take the plunge and learn how to knit! Your video is such great quality and very thorough, thank you for making it!
Goodness this is the only video I've found that actually simplifies the process down to where I can actually understand the steps when it comes to knitting
Haven't knitted in years since I switched to crocheting. I remember watching your videos when I was still new a couple of years ago, and learning again today unlocked a new world! Thank you so much for uploading this, it's amazing!
I really like how you’ve covered all the basics of learning how to start to knit - estimating how much yarn to use for casting on, how to create a slip knot, and the actual casting on as well. Thank you! This is something I’ve had to watch multiple videos to get all of this information that is all included in this one, very well explained tutorial! Do you have a video on how to join a new ball of yarn onto the work which is coming to the end of the first ball? That might be helpful as well!!
Thanks so much! I'm glad the series has helped you out! This is a video I made about joining a new ball of yarn: ua-cam.com/video/I_cHO6R_MBc/v-deo.html Incidentally, I'm also working on another new video about joining yarn. Should be published next week!
Thank you! I haven't knitted in years and couldn't remember how to cast on - this was so clear and slow, exactly what I needed. My fingers have the hang of it now.
Thank you ! My grandma taught me this like 20 or 15 years ago and I had forgotten. I was using another method but feeling and remembering it wasn't the "right" one ! Then I found your vid and it all came back to me ! It was very well explained!
This tutorial made casting on so easy. I know so many other knitters that complain about how complicated casting on is, but after doing it with this video… I was like “is it seriously that easy!?” Thank you!!!
Thank you for making such a high quality, easy-to-follow video (under 10 mins) and for doing the moves slowly and explaining each step. I must have watched 10 videos before this and couldn't figure out the cast-on let alone move on to the knit/purl. Thank you for saving me from quitting before I even started!
I have tried to learn to knit several times in the last 10 years. This is the first tutorial that has made sense....super easy & fun. I can now cast on! I’m looking forward to your other tutorials & finally learning to knit.
I am trying to learn to knit to make a baby blanket for photoshoots trying to start my company and two of your videos helped me tremendously!! I've tried to teach myself knitting so many times. Your videos have been the only ones that truly helped and I can't thank you enough!!
Thank you thank you thank you this is the most most most helpful video ❤❤❤ Thank you very much it really helps . I can’t tell you how grateful I am like literally this is the only video which teaches me how to cast on thank you very much ❤❤
For years now, I have been recommending your cast-on videos to people who are trying to learn how to knit! This one and the long-tail cast-on one were what finally got things to click for me after many failed attempts. You have a real gift for making something confusing into something that is easy to understand!
You are such a good teacher! I’ve watched all of your beginners videos, they are all easy to follow and engaging. Can’t wait to get good at the basics so I can take on some fun projects!
Hi. I've just started this video as I received a knit your own scarf... I have Dyspraxia, Autism and ADHD, and this is the best video I have seen. Your voice is so calming and I want to thank you for an easy to follow video! Xx
As someone who has tried multiple times to teach friends to crochet, you do an Excellent job teaching how to do yarn work. You dont realize how much skill it takes to teach yarn work until you do it. Thanks so much for helping me expand my yarn work skills!
Wow, after a while of just crocheting, I’d completely forgotten how to cast on while knitting. This video is amazing, perfect for anyone, especially beginners!
Ummm.....what “proper” way? There IS no “proper”way, other than that it works for the purpose you’re using it for. I was taught to cast on this way and I see no good reason to complicate things.
Absolutely phenomenal instructions! Slowly, throughly shows and tells EXACTLY what to do and how to move your hands, then repeats so you may not have to back up and rewatch!
I live in a senior apartment community and yesterday they held an hour to get together and knit. I ended up being the instructor and taught this method of casting on which I love. I’m glad this tutorial is here as I will recommend it. I’ve knitted since I was 5 and love it.
This has been the most helpful video I have found I have been wanting to start knitting for ages but I didn't know how to cast on this made it really easy and I got it on my first time it is super easy for beginners as I am only 12 years old and I found this easy to do thank you so much!!! ❤️
THANK YOU! I had been trying to cast on for so long using another method. I am a total beginner and I got the hang of this FIRST TIME without feeling like you were patronising me. Ready to start knitting a scarf for my best friend now and it's all thanks to you!
I was so proud of myself--and then wondered why my tail seemed to be getting longer, not shorter... I had been winding the wrong length of yarn around my thumb the entire time! 🤣🤣🤣 Other than that it was perfect haha. Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial, I paid more attention and did it the right way the second time!!
Your videos are cheerful and perfectly explanatory! I'm just learning and feel confident about starting a project....after I practice more lol. Thanks for this series and tips!
Aw! You're so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. My feeling is that knitting should be FUN, so I try my best to include that energy in the videos!
Yeah, it's so simple! It's not as "cool" looking as the traditional long tail method, but I like its simplicity. Beginners also get this a lot quicker!
I love you for this. My great aunt taught me how to knit as a child in the 80s and I haven't touched a kitting needle since she passed in the mid 90s. You've brought it all back for me, thank you!!!!
I come back to this video every time I want to knit something. I taught myself to knit during the COVID pandemic and this channel is what helped me the most. I always take long breaks between projects so I need a refresher and this video is the easiest and quickest. Thank you
Thanks for this tutorial! It's the most helpful one I've seen so far. You made sure to go slow and easy since we are beginners and I'm very thankful for that! ^^
Wowwww I saw so many videos before finding yours...I'm doing my first knitting kit for beginners and the included guide sucks so much. I was ready to give up on it until I found your video! Easy explanation, love the repetition and slow hand movements. Hands down best tutorial, thank you so much. I feel confident that I can finish this little project now.
Of all other videos I've seen, trying to learn cast on was difficult for me. This video however, was the easiest and most understanding cast on tutorial yet. Thank you so much, I know my mother will love this! 😁❤️
I picked up my needles last night and grabbed some yarn from my crochet bag and went to town following your videos. Today I have a decent little start and I’m already feeling more comfortable with the motions! I’ve shared your videos to a friend and told her to try as well! My husband saw and went to Amazon to buy me a kit to work with! LOVING IT! Your how to videos are great and I look forward to watching and learning many more knitting skills/techniques from them! Thank you!
I am just 11 years old and I think this video is amazing! I LOVE all of your work and really look forward to getting my orders from amazon faster! You really encourage me to not give up and always make everything seem easy (and I do think and hope it is), and I have ordered (not yet) almost every material to make knitting the scarf as easy as possible XD. I am a bit of a beginner, but not completely, so I am sure it won't be as hard as I tried before last year or something. ;)
i've spent so much time trying to figure this out, clicked on at least 10+ videos and this is BY FAR the best beginner tutorial i've seen THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
This was so easy to understand! I'm finally teaching myself how to knit after crocheting for years and I thought knitting would be so easy but it's taking me a minute to learn 😅 thank you for this beginner video!
I’ve known how to knit for awhile and I always had to my grandma cast one for me. Every tutorial didn’t show every step in full detail and now i know how to do it independently this helps so much. And reminder if your a beginner you can do this!
I used to knit a lot (spent one spring knitting the most terribly terrifying thing you’ll ever see) but gave up, came back to try to make plushies and this channel is so motivating :D
Love your videos, my mum taught me how to knit but I have a really bad memory and always forget how to cast on and off😅. I hate asking her every time as I'm currently makeing a blanket out of a bunch of small squares. The fact your videos are so simple and well structured means I usually only need to skip through them to remind myself of what to do. ❤
This was the only tutorial where I not only got the first few loops actually cast but was able to do it myself easily after watching you cast twice. I’m so excited to start this new journey. Thank you for taking me the first few steps
First time knitting since i was a young child (knitted maybe 15 cm in my whole life up until now with my Mom casting on for me) and i was able to understand just how to cast on! Thank you so much for this!
Mom always cast on for me too. She passed away almost 4 years ago and now I want to knit to feel close to her. This video is amazing. I can’t wait for the wool to arrive so that I can try to cast on.
Thank our for this video. This helped my youngest daughter so much. Her sister tried to explain it, and she looked on a few other videos, but yours was the best. Your verbal instructions and patient demonstrations were the easiest for her to understand and follow along with.
When we where having a party at my aunts house I saw a stick like that so I took it washed It and here I am I can actually use it and I’m really happy😅😁
I got a knitting kit for Christmas but had no idea how to cast on. I tried with the instructions but i couldn't figure it out. I literally cried from the frustration. Your video made me almost cry with joy. I finally got it started. Thank you.
Really? What part is troubling you? I was able to get the first on right away. I actually came here looking for specifically that. Maybe we can help you if you describe your problem.
@@mollyiscool5008 Sad it is. The internet is such a place that we must ask strangers not to come at us in replies. LOL>... I assumed the breakdown was from attempting the cast on. Though it could just be a random cry for help.
Thanks for the tutorial! I repeated the steps and a couple of munites later somehow did it one handed, and then realised - that’s what my grandma tried to teach me a number of times and failed because we both didn’t have the patience! But you made it so easy, I am truly grateful.
I've knitted countless scarves but cast on still confuses me, and I find myself coming back to this video with every new scarf. Thank you so much for providing this resource for knitters from every skill level, your videos are so clear and easy to understand
My mother knit all her life, and every year she would knit hats and mittons to donate at Christmas to local charities. She passed last year, and I'm learning to knit to continue her tradition of giving! Your tutorials are wonderful, thank you for helping me honor her generous and kind spirit! ❤
Who's gonna to give a THUMBS UP for this cast on method? (pun intended!)

I can't thank you enough for this video! I was struggling so much to cast on and I had it within 5 minutes after following along with you!
Glad it helped!
Just tried casting on for the first time ever using this video and it was perfect and so easy to follow. Thank you 😊
I come back to this video every time I want to knit something. I taught myself to knit during the COVID pandemic and this channel is what helped me the most. I always take long breaks between projects so I need a refresher and this video is the easiest and quickest. Thank you
Incredibly easy to follow. Thank you … you’ve got me knitting in one afternoon!
So happy to hear that!
I have watched so many knitting videos, this was sweet and to the point! So informative, this video is what I needed! Thank you ❤
I’m so glad it helped you! 🤗
Of all other videos I've seen, trying to learn cast on was difficult for me. This video however, was the easiest and most understanding cast on tutorial yet. Thank you so much, I know my mother will love this! 😁❤️
Others wanna complicate things for no reasons
Knitting newbies, rejoice! This tutorial is a real life-saver for those of us who are clueless about casting on. Thanks for sharing!
This made casting on so much easier than what I remembered it to be! And very therapeutic! Thank you!
This was the only video that helped thanks!! Every other video was so confusing
Awesome! I live to serve! :D
Kindly watch Aarya's Craft Time for basic knitting tutorials. Thank you!
Thank you!
A new beginning is so exciting! Happy knitting!
Totally just did this with some twine and a pencil found in my desk. Thanks for teaching me!
Awesome! How resourceful of you. I love it!
People are so smart thanks for helping them out you teacha dog new tricks
I am just 11 years old and I think this video is amazing! I LOVE all of your work and really look forward to getting my orders from amazon faster! You really encourage me to not give up and always make everything seem easy (and I do think and hope it is), and I have ordered (not yet) almost every material to make knitting the scarf as easy as possible XD. I am a bit of a beginner, but not completely, so I am sure it won't be as hard as I tried before last year or something. ;)
Thank you for uploading this video! ❤️
Omg! You have no idea how incredibly helpful your beginning videos have been. You are truly a teacher of great talent!!!
This is the only video that actually taught me how to cast on a stitch! I usually have to ask my mom but this taught me how to do it!
Same
Love how easy this video is to follow! Great for me and my 9 yr old who are complete beginners 😃
i've spent so much time trying to figure this out, clicked on at least 10+ videos and this is BY FAR the best beginner tutorial i've seen THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
This was so easy to understand! I'm finally teaching myself how to knit after crocheting for years and I thought knitting would be so easy but it's taking me a minute to learn 😅 thank you for this beginner video!
I’ve crocheted for the past almost 10 years and I still cannot get knitting.Trying again after my last attempt like 4 years ago ☠️
I’m glad this helped 😊
My sister wanted me to teach her how to do this. I think that this video will definitely help her! Thank you.
Awesome! Good luck! Also, it's so sweet that you're teaching your sister how to knit!
Thank our for this video. This helped my youngest daughter so much. Her sister tried to explain it, and she looked on a few other videos, but yours was the best. Your verbal instructions and patient demonstrations were the easiest for her to understand and follow along with.
You are such a good teacher! So clear and concise, thank you so much!🙌
When we where having a party at my aunts house I saw a stick like that so I took it washed
It and here I am I can actually use it and I’m really happy😅😁
I got a knitting kit for Christmas but had no idea how to cast on. I tried with the instructions but i couldn't figure it out. I literally cried from the frustration. Your video made me almost cry with joy. I finally got it started. Thank you.
This helped me more than any knitting tutorial EVER
That’s awesome! Happy to help!
Who else is just having an mental breakdown 😔
Really? What part is troubling you? I was able to get the first on right away. I actually came here looking for specifically that. Maybe we can help you if you describe your problem.
Nixie Knox ~ I think they just mean they’re having a mental breakdown...
I might be wrong don’t come at me🤷🏽♀️
@@mollyiscool5008 Sad it is. The internet is such a place that we must ask strangers not to come at us in replies. LOL>... I assumed the breakdown was from attempting the cast on. Though it could just be a random cry for help.
Me
Ten t.e.n me 😂
Thanks for the tutorial!
I repeated the steps and a couple of munites later somehow did it one handed, and then realised - that’s what my grandma tried to teach me a number of times and failed because we both didn’t have the patience!
But you made it so easy, I am truly grateful.
Learning to knit at 1am and this is perfect, thank you!
i love that
I've knitted countless scarves but cast on still confuses me, and I find myself coming back to this video with every new scarf.
I love knitting! I’ve already sold 4 scarves on EBay🤗
MATE YOU’RE BRILLIANT! I knew how to knit but not cast on!
Unknown Specimen I’m the opposite
Truly thank you for this crystal clear instruction video.
You did a great job!❤
i’m learning to knit at the age of 16 so that i can be a Mrs Weasley in the future 😂
I support this goal.
Heck yes
When you can’t even make a slip knot ... 😅
