you know, i'm a 19 year old boy and i used to knit with my gran when i was really young, like 6 or 7 maybe? well when my dad found out he told me it was a thing only old women do, so i stopped it. i forgot how to knit at all (even though i wasn't great at it back then haha), but now i'm trying to pick it back up in her honour and this tutorial has really helped me get the hang of it fairly quickly! (even if i am painfully slow at the actual knitting!) so thank you!

Nah, men have been knitting all throughout history, even had artisan guilds in the middle ages when _women_ weren't allowed to knit. It's a crafting skill and ovaries aren't required to make something useful, plus it gives you something to do while binging Netflix or whatever. You do you, I bet your gran would be proud no matter what

    I FINISHED.
I started November 2021 and took many long pauses from working and only just now, on November 2nd 2022, have I finished. Definitely accidentally added a ton of stitches early on so it’s way too wide and therefore too short but it’s still definitely a scarf and I’m very proud and excited to knit more :)
Also I’d recommend that once you’re comfortable with knit stitch, you consider alternating some purl in this. Just to make it less monotonous and create a more interesting design.

    • @joycor1419
      @joycor1419 Рік тому +6

@Cookingwith401_101 Oh, I meant like I recommend to anyone making the scarf that they consider switching to purl if the knit stitch is getting a little monotonous for them like it did for me. That wasn’t like me telling her to change the tutorial or me trying to flex in some weird way or anything.
Although one scarf wonder is absolutely the funniest insult I’ve ever received.

If you click on the video itself and then click on the three vertical dots in upper right corner you'll find a button half way down the menu that will adjust the video playback speed. You can slow video down to 1/4 of normal speed and up to 3 times faster than normal. Faster speeds come in handy when listening to audio books. By increasing the speed by just one level will get you through material that much faster without sacrificing comprehension. This must be a recent UA-cam feature. I just learned about it this past week. Hope this info helps you guys out there.

Thank you so much for preparing this carefully instructed video. That last time I did any knitting was when I was in my late teens. Now, at 75, this craft is like starting from scratch. I must have torn out that first row so many times the yarn was getting overworked. Thankfully the next rows are going much better and definitely more quickly.

I'm a bit late posting this reply to you but I may help others with it. Get a crochet hook and slip it through the loop that you missed to catch the yarn crossing the gap above it. Then pull that yarn through the loop. o that as often as is needed, but take the time to figure out which side to enter the loop from so you have knit or purl pattern as needed.

Jennifer, during Covid quarantine, I thought I would give your beginner knit scarf a try. I am sometimes taken back by projects that are described as beginner that don't seem to hold true to the definition of beginner but I have had wonderful success with your crochet tutorials and have confidence that your projects are always true to your description. I am happy to say today I finished my very first knit scarf and I absolutely love how it turned out.. I used a Caron Cake in the color, Blackberry Mousse so there is a deep purple, mauve, burgundy and some brown. I love that my edges are aligned, I can definitely accomplish the Knit Stitch at this point and I was able to follow the binding off. I have a new appreciation and love for such a beloved yarn craft. I am hopeful I'll find additional knitting tutorials on your channel. You are a wonderful teacher and this is the perfect tutorial for an absolute beginner. Thank you so much!

Time stamps (because I needed to replay certain sections multiple times when I started)
03:35 beginning of long tail cast on section.
    04:16 Skipknot (stitch #1).
04:48 First cast on (stitch #2).
05:40 Second cast on (stitch #3).
    06:55 end of cast on.
    --
07:14 Beginning of row one section
07:47 beginning of row one section
08:08 first knit stitch of row one
08:15 Under the first stitch so that the blue needle is on the bottom
08:20 Wrap the yarn around the bottom needle
08:24 now bring the needle from back to front, while we do that we’re going to catch that loop
    08:31 then push it off
08:34 second showing of how to do the knit stitch.
    08:52 3rd knit stitch.
    10:33 end of first row.

    10:53 beginning of row two.
    12:24 end of row two.
    --
    13:00 Cast off section
    13:24 beginning of cast off
13:28 Knit a stitch same way we normally would
13:32 Then we’re going to knit another stitch
13:35 Then reach back with left needle
13:39 And go into that first loop (the first stitch you made)
13:42 and go in there with your needle
13:44 And bring it up over on top of the other stitch
    13:47 and off the needle
    --
13:50 repeat showing of cast off
    --
    16:15 last cast off stitch
16:30 cut off excess (approx 8 inches)
16:55 wiggle needle to create larger loop
17:02 then you can take the yarn and send it through that loop
17:05 then tighten that down nice and snug all the way to the bottom
    --
    17:12 weave in our ends

It's bright purple, royal blue, shocking pink, bright Pink, tea pink and margined with baby pink. It's length is 5th 6 inches and width is 10 inches. It took me 1 month to complete it but it came out amazing. I used 4mm knitting needles and medium sized yarn 🧶. Thanks a lot for inspiration and guidelines . I made it as a gift for my younger sister. She loved it too. I know it's very late but thanks a lot.

So, I'm using a good homespun "Lion Brand Yarn" to knit a nice warm scarf. I like a challenge. And actually, years ago I knit a cool sweater for my then 18 month young son. It turned out pretty good! It's covid time I'm a 60 yr old retired scientist. Scientists don't like idleness, soooo I learned slow pitch softball, whittling little man and letter openers out of branches off my yard trees, carving wooden spoons off the bigger branches, volunteered with meals on wheels and now knitting a scarf... Hurrahhh lol. I wish I can post a picture of my first knitted project 😂

Hi haven’t been on ytube in awhile because I’m now knitting yay 😀 after crocheting for ever I never thought I could knit I did watch your videos library on cast on knit stitch purl stockinette they are so helpful for all interested I learned all these from your videos especially cast on which I think is hardest to learn.
I wondering if you could show how to do a kfb I cannot seem to get that at all😊

I just wanted to say thank you for this tutorial! I have been trying to learn to knit just to make some simple things (I already crochet, so it's just to complement for things that work better knitted), but O have been struggling. Even watching several other UA-cam tutorials I just didn't understand it. This video made it so easy though! The way you explaining it really worked for my brain and I was instantly like "oh *of course* this is really easy". And now I have knitted a scarf for my son in just a couple of days. :D

When I cast on I knit the tail at the start in so I only need to trim a bit off. I still need to weave in the end where I've cast off, but that's still a bit less messing around at the end of the project.

Forsome reason whenever I try to knit the first 'real' row, everything just unravels when I try to pull the stitches from one needle to the other - I make *sure* i have the loop with me, but just...nothing happens :/
Maybe I should just go back to crocheting... it's easier... XD (to me, at least)

no matter how may times i watch it i cant understand how to catch the knot because i cant see what youre doing properly. Where in the stitch do i place the needle? what am i catching because the minute i try and draw back out the pitiful loop ive made with the working yarn just comes apart.... aghhhhhh

    • @j2o2e8y
      @j2o2e8y 6 років тому

so to start with the slip knot try by holding the yarn tail between your left thumb and forefinger/middle finger, then wrap the yarn around your left fore finger and middle finger clockwise, then pull your fingers out without loosing the loop, then move the loop so its over the working yarn end, and then finally pull that up through the loop to get your slip knot, last you hold the yarn tail and working yarn with your left hand and then pull the loop with your right to tighten the knot and then you place that loop over your needle and pull up to tighten the loop to the needle. to make the knit stitch you place your right needle to the left of the loop and then through it to the right from front to back, and then you wrap your yarn tail counter clockwise around the right needle tip, and then pull that all back through the stitch to make a new one on your right needle
