Makes sense. Jeep made it annoying enough to want to get rid of but easy enough for people to get rid of it. Smart way to get the EPA ratings and give the power back to the end customers.
I have so much crap going on today and this was been such a headache for the past two hours. I found your video and I fix my problem. I cannot thank you enough. Saved me a lot of money man you’re doing good out there.
HERE IS YOUR BIG THUMBS UP! Thank you! Took my Jeep to my dealership, and they said there was nothing you could do about it...well I'm taking it back up there to let the lazy guy know that YES, IT CAN BE DONE!
2020 JL Jeep® just did it and it was successful! I actually like the A! code on the speedo readout...reminds me that nothing forced on buyers is forever... One more trick I did - untethered the aux battery from the main battery and removed fuse 42. Why? The aux battery that helps with ESS is prone to fail after 3 years and it will gladly take your main battery down with it leaving you stranded. Oh, and that aux battery is a pain to replace and expensive as well. So pull the neg [-] cable from the aux battery off the main battery terminal and tape it back [you can leave the aux battery in place] and remove the fuse to stop the computer from looking for it. One and Done.
epic video, thank you for the 'trick', disabling the ESS is one thing, but the trick (as you say) is to completely remove the battery issue altogether. I got stranded with my 2018JL and I wish I would have known what you taught me. Appreciate the info!
The dealer didn't tell me about this "feature" and the first few times I stopped at a red light on my home I didn't know what the hell was going on. Thanks!
I have another video of a product that gets rid of the dash light and makes the auto start/stop button retain its memory from the last setting you had it on when the Jeep was shut off 👍🏼
We unplugged it and put the plunger back in so we don’t lose it. We also used Superchips programmer for our speedometer calibration for our 35’s and we were able to disable the seatbelt chime and the auto stop light on the dash. We still needed to unplug the plunger and the programmer tells you to do that too
Have to say that I have a 2018 JL that I just gave the dealer $361 to install a new Battery etc. After that I realized that this would be a reoccurring problem once the "Useless smaller battery" killed everything again. So this morning I went out and followed your suggestion. Thanks bunches and If I keep the JL I may just redesign the whole systems again. They said it was against company rules for them to do anything. p.s. Have a bunch of jeepers from NY to Cal that I call friends so this is going on my personal page with my bear pictures.
I have a 2018 Wrangler JL (Rubicon) and when I disabled the auto start/stop as per your instructions I also lost the outside temperature reporting. It just remained at 70 degrees even in the cold morning and hot afternoons. Have you come across this before?
I got use to turn AutoStart Off automatically in my Mercedes, after a week of doing it..it is automatically set in your brain, when you turn on the engine, press the AutoStartStop button. I don't like engine lights on in my dashboard. But hey, everyone can do it the way they want. 😊
Agreed, a lot easier to push one button then have to worry about warning lights or worse, the dealership giving you warranty problems if you forget to plug it back in and they see its disconnected
My Toyota has a stop/start system and I was told by a tech that the starting system is beefed up for it. Different starter, AGM deep cycle battery, etc. I also hate it but disabling it is not possible without a home brew style circuit board and some wiring changes. I think Jeep knew someone would figure this out and it gives owners an easy out.
So glad I can cross this video. I still can figure out why they put this in any vehicle. It can’t be good on your battery, starter, flywheel, etc. it’s the only thing I dislike on my Jeep. It’s going bye bye tomorrow when I change the oil, oil filter and both air filters. Again thanks.
🛑 Downside is you get a warning light on the right ⚠️ for the feature THEN you get another warning light on the left that says your hood is open . If he would have closed his driver door it shows up 👎 , I don’t like that it would bug the hell out of me . For $99 you can get a plug and play module that removes this feature from the vehicle
Thank you !! Had a warning light come on and it started messing with the starter. Watched the video and solved the problem until I can get it in the shop. You da man !!
In the manual for my wife’s 2015 Cherokee, I am fairly certain it says the stop/start feature is for emissions; no mention of saving fuel. The dealer agent said that it was for mileage.
I could see the emissions part, but the it definitely would not help your mileage 😂. Unless he was talking about getting better mileage, meaning mpg, meaning saving fuel. But I could see how shutting the engine off while stopped could be better for emissions, although it still may be minimal since the car is not off for very long
Ben Anton so exactly what I meant was emissions is what the manual says the feature was intended for, regardless of how effective it may be in actual use. The dealer said it would help mileage as in MPG savings; again no statements to how effective it would actually be in use. Both reasons don’t explain why it couldn’t be turned off indefinitely unless there’s some mandatory requirement, like other pollution/emissions features.
Would it be possible to route the plunger switch wires to the ESS button on the dash? Then it could be a master ESS switch and no need to open hood and still have the ESS available if needed.
Can You guys post a video on how to completely disable the esc and stability control? Or Is it basically the same as the JK's and just pulling those fuses? When it snows all the computer aided braking ruins drifting, if you pull the fuses on a JK in the snow and can drive manual well, they go sideways dam good, considering there straight. Everything off just gives you so much more feedback. I wish jeep made a manual with the turbo 4 cylinder. Would have been a absolute riot. I don't know much about the 2.0 and how well they are made haven't been able to find a video of one being torn down yet but man they make some decent power for a little 4 banger.
So, I did this mod when we first took delivery of our previously owned Rubicon (moved the plunger but kept it plugged in) and it worked great - start/stop disabled and just the little yellow warning light on the dash. This week we went to the dealer for service and they tucked it back in place (whoops they caught me). So now I repeated what we did the first time - moved the plunger, kept it plugged in - and now the “hood up” light comes on. Tried it by unplugging the plunger from the cable altogether and still the “hood up” light comes on. So weird, so frustrating.
I did that hack and it worked, but the warning light on the dash drove me nuts so I did this leave it together and with some electrical tape hold the plunger down and wrap some electrical tape around the the whole piece start stop disabled and no warning light on the dash !
My auto start/stop stalls out my Jeep every time I let off of the brake when it’s active. Have to throw it in park and restart it with the button. Need this feature disabled asap before it gets me killed
The dealership sends you notifications on the jeep app that there is an issue with the drive train. Then they email saying please bring in for service under warranty thats a pain as well. I plugged mine back in because of all the notifications on my phone and emails. Ugh can’t win
I can’t understand why Jeep wouldn’t put a memory setting for this. They gotta step their game up against Ford’s Bronco and annoying their customers isn’t exactly a good strategy.
Question. I went through the process of trying to install an aux batt in my 2019 Jeep Sahara to only find out that there was no aux batt in the compartment. Why do I have a compartment for an aux batt but no aux batt was in there? Also, there wasn't any terminals to connect an aux batt if I wanted to. What's up with that? I messaged another guy on a separate video, and he said that I don't need an aux batt because I don't have 3.6L. This doesnt make any sense to me
This does not prevent the auxiliary battery from draining the main battery which is common issue with 2018 JLs. Might as well remove the auxiliary battery.
