Just took mine out to a mile this past Saturday. Hit 7 times total, with a 5 shot consecutive hits string in there. Missed first 15 shots because we couldn't pick up spot (wet and fog rolled in), so we broke and waited for it to roll out. Once it did and we picked up the first shot, I got on target in four shots. Missed next two. Then hit 5 in a row. Then missed one then hit one. Then took it to the house. Ruger American Predator 6.5 Creedmoor Magpul stock, SWFA SS 10x, Seekins rings and 20 moa base, Hornady factory 140g eldm. Had 97 total moa and only had 83 I could dial. Had to hold over 14moa. Winds 4-12mph. These guns are amazing.
I was diagnosed with ALS going on 8 years ago. I want to make this shot. I can do it. I'm asking for guidance. If you feel that "something" inside telling you to contact me please follow through. I'm proud of you sir for your accomplishment.
Others doesn’t even have a range half to that distance and or hit that small of target at one mile, superb shooting sir! Congrats on officially joining the “One Mile Club”
Hurrah! Impact! Got a little hairy for the target cam:) I've about hit mine on occasion as well. I now put a piece of AR500 steel in front of my target cam. Saved it once of twice for sure. Looks like as your barrel heats up the impacts start going low. My 338 Lapua does the same thing after about shot 3. Good shooting! Keep it up!
Yeah, I don't see how you guys are making these shots. My American in 308 starts shooting high and off to the side after the first 4 round magazine. They need to make a scope with a red a blue reticle. First shots using the blue one and then switch to the red one when it warms up :D .
wish I lived near you I would spot for you and then you spot for me. having a good spotter cut your misses in half. you a honest guy to show the misses
I am partial to the .270 and the .300 win mag. Both do very well in long distance situations. For a smaller round the 22-250 and .243 are tough to beat.
243 outdoors. I have the same rifle and a scope with 50 MOA total of play like yours. I have been trying to figure out what base to put on and be able to keep a 200 yard zero and be able to hit at I mile.so in your opinion ( asking because I just watched you do it) a 20 MOA rail will get me there( do you have to use a holdover at that distance with only a 20 MOA base? Any advise would be great I can't find an answer and have been looking for weeks. Any advance would be extremely helpful. Thanks in Advance and great shooting!
You should look at a MDT chassis for it. 6061-T6 aluminum frame. Just needs a pistol grip and whatever buttstock you want. Though besides being mainly a rigid chassis, it free floats your barrel but not sure how much more you'd gain from it.
Ratkill9000 no not all. traditionally most of your long distance rifle set ups are heavy. to help control the gun during aiming also helps a lot with recoil. its nothing to put 100 rounds with no shoulder pain when your done. now if your going to be out stalking bear's, elk, or deer weight would be a major problem.
How did you add the lead wieght to the stock? I have an American predator in .204 and the back of the stock is the only thing I dont like about it... it feels cheaply made & hollow... can you take off the butt & fill it with lead that way, anyway?? Thanks....
Were you able to achieve a 100 yard zero with your total cant angle? Basically copying your setup. Just took my first shots at the range. Elevation is topped out, but I’m having to hold 2 MRAD under at 200yds. Going to swap the rear rings to the 5 minute and see where that gets me. Might push the front ring forward to the next notch on the EGW.
I love this sort of shooting. A guy out standing in his field. I've spent a fair amount on shooting and sadly don't do enough shooting to justify the expenditures, but I have good intentions. It's difficult to find long range shooting locations around here, unless it's ridge top to partway below an adjacent ridge. Despite the money I've spent on shooting, I also love seeing how much accuracy can be had on a budget. I recently bought a Thompson Center Compass in 6.5 Creedmoor on a special promotion for under $200 and I put a decent budget scope on it just to see what I could do (perhaps with the right hand load) for a rifle and scope that cost less than $350. My Tree Fiddy "Precision" Rifle. :-)
Hit!! Successful outing finally at 1 mile...must feel great getting that hit :) keep up the good work...perhaps a piece of steel in front of the camera so it don't get hit, lol
The stock isn't pretty to look at, so have you thought about replacing it with something more eye pleasing? The short 22" barrel and that green stock is what has stopped me months ago from buying. I will find out tomorrow if a local store was able to find Ruger's American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor.
awesome hit man. just got into shooting myself this year with a mossberg 702 plinkster .22lr i got for Christmas. longest shot with that i got was about 450 yards with the broken off head of a snow shovel. Its an amazing feeling to land hits like that.
Have you noticed you reposition your Ruger ...back and forth. What this does IMO is throwing your adjustment from the last shot off...then you start adjusting again
I have the RPR and have made it to 1500 yards but not any further. People have no idea the work you have to put in to reach that mile. Enjoyed your videos. Congrats. I would like to know how much you put into your build. We do classes and trying to find the most economical way of doing it for new students. I have 1k in my rifle and 900 in a vortex 6-24-50.
Also looking at getting either this same gun, the 6.5 or a 6.5 prc... which would you go with?? I haven't even checked if the 6.5 prc can come in the ruger American predator.... do you know? Thanks..
Well done. Have the same gun with a Timney 641C trigger and Odin Atlas 6.5 comp. Haven't tried the mile shot yet because my scope will not go to 95 moa. Shoot a lot of steel at 600 and 700 but to get out that far, I'll need better glass. It's an amazing rifle regardless of the price. when I'm done putting it in a MDT LSS Chassis and upgrading the scope, I'll have a boat load of money in it. That's ok because the rifle is good and I plan on keeping it. Thanks for the vid but I can't find the follow up with your calculations. Did I miss it?
Have you ever tried Prime Ammo in this gun? I am torn between the Hornady 140 ft match ELD or the Prime 130 grain. I am trying to make sure I pick a round that I can use for long range target shooting and hunting for Whitetail and coyotes.
Nice! I'm surprised you needed to trim back the forend to float the barrel though. Ruger says this rifle has a "Patent-pending Power Bedding® integral bedding block system (which) positively locates the receiver and free-floats the barrel for outstanding accuracy." I guess not so much then... Kinda bummed cause the price was so tempting , but I really want something ready to go right out of the box...
Well he did also say he put fiberglass in it to stiffen it up a tad, so maybe thats why? I just looked at one yesterday and took a few sheets of construction paper to see if it was and no part of the barrel touched the stock
I bought a nice 6.5 ar10 off a buddy for far less than I would get it for otherwise, planning to rebarrel to 308. After hearing that news I've decided to invest in the caliber. Maybe a separate upper in 308...later...
I really wish I could get up to Illinois and do some shooting with you. There is so much I have to learn. Where I live, the longest range I have is 200 yards and I'm hitting sub MOA, the size of a quarter and I hope to tighten that up in the coming weeks. I just flew out to Utah, where I lived for 16 years before moving to Florida. Today, my son and I went to the west desert and I hit a 12" steel plate on my first shot from 350 yards. I was shooting 140 grain Hornady ELD Match with a Leapers UTG 6-24x50 scope. Then I hit my first shot from 400 yards. It was a very muddy, cold, rainy day. When I tried to shoot from 500 yards, no dust or dirt would kick up so it was hard to tell how to correct my shots. I really believe, since the elevation was about 4,200 feet asl, I was shooting too high but I just couldn't tell. I had a blast but I REALLY want to shoot my Ruger American Predator up to 1,000 yards.
I did not realize just how difficult it really is to make a shot like that...must be frustrating to keep missing, sometime by inches...smh...slow video, but entertaining...congrats on making the mark!
I can't find the post about the cheek rest. Can you tell me where you got it again? Where are you located? Looks like the good ol' midwest somewhere. I grew up 90 miles north of Amarillo in the flat, windy, dusty plains! :)
Here's the video on the Cheek rest. ua-cam.com/video/DRJlUbgXodA/v-deo.html It came from Matthew's Fabrication out of Utah. Great guy. I am located in Southern Illinois.
Thanks so much! I lived and worked in Utah for 16 years before moving to Florida in December of '08. Florida is great for everything besides shooting. In the west desert of Utah, I had thousands of square miles where I could shoot targets, coyotes, jackrabbits and everything else. In Florida, I have to go to a range! It's going to be tough finding a place to shoot 1,000 yard shots and even harder trying to find a place to shoot a mile. There are a couple of ranges, one east and one west, about an hour and a half to two hours drives away. The crazy thing is they cost nearly $500 a year to join. That's easily another Ruger American Rifle! LOL I really appreciate your videos! Thank you for making these and posting them!
A number of things. Factory 140 is faster than my round. The elevation of the land is a major contributor. Also the Ballistic Coefficient falls off as the velocity drops especially when the round goes subsonic.
the other day we did the same with a 25-06 and 120 sierra game kings,,and a 270 with 140 game kings,,,,and of course it took some sighters to get there,,,and a guy with a 26 nosler did get there too,,,but his barrel got hot and walked all over,,the little 6.5 creedmore,,seemed to have the least power and slightest marks on the steel,,,,,about like a 243,,,,,which shoots flatter,,,
Up until this week, I had never fired a predator without a brake. It is a huge difference. My gun does have some added weight also. It is such a soft shooter. It is very loud to bystanders though. I can keep the gun on target after shots and see the impacts. The other gun is bone stock, and you feel it when you shoot. Night and Day difference. I may put a little video together showing side by side brake and no brake.
Great shooting! I felt like I was right there with you...found myself talking to the screen, giving spotter advice...heheheh...congrats on your 1 mile shot!
Dual elevation only and leave windage zero'd. Dialing wind is rarely used in long range shots as wind at the shooter location, mid range and on target are always changing. Watch your bullet trace and use the scopes mil dots for hold overs.
Btw.....great shooting with no spotter. With a 3 second flight time you should be able to get back behind the scope, trace the shot and basically spot yourself. Excellent shots.
The best so far for me is my tikka t3 .308 at 1020 meters (1115 yards) only 645 more yards to go! Granted I'll have to hold it 6 feet above the target. Lol. Nice shot no matter what rifle round you choose 1 mile isn't easy.
Did you ever get the rail issue fixed, or you just shimmed the Burris xtr rings with the MOA adjustment rings? I know you said you had an issue where you were off to the left about 20moa and your buddies rifle seemed to have the same issue with shooting to the left. I'm curious, I own this same rifle and the only thing I have done is a trigger job and it shoots .580 group at 300 yards. We don't have a longer range here to stretch it out. Just curious what you did as your final solution. I am using Burris medium xtr signature rings as well.
My rifle in this video is fine, My buddies rifle is the one off to the left, and yes I just shimmed it over with the XTR rings. I still have his rifle. I zeroed it after fixing it, but it hasn't been shot since. I have came up with about 4 other rifles with this problem. So there is a bad batch of them out there.
Awesome shooting!!! I've followed your videos since I discovered them and appreciate the thoroughness and the successful hits on target. I own a Ruger Predator 6.5 and don't mind using the supplied scope base along with some 30mm weaver rings for scope mounting. If the furthest I'll be shooting is 650 yards (limited by land boundaries), do you recommend going with an aftermarket scope base? I know it will provide more elevation adjustment which I should not need at 650 yards and under but would you recommend an aftermarket base just for scope mounting rigidity or should I save my money for more ammo?
I just put some Burris scope mounts on my 7mm TCU contender and did not know they had MOA bushing for mounting the scope for long range. I believe they go from -.5MOA to 20MOA. so it will tilt you scope up for longer shots. I just used the standard ones because I can't shoot any further than 200yrds where I live.
I assure you it didn't bounce. What you are hearing is the report of the gun. The bullet is subsonic at that distance and you hear the report of the shot first, then hear the impact.
I have a second video where I get 2 hits. That was the last time I tried at a mile. I should get the chance to shoot a mile again in about 2 months. Can't wait!!!
Great shot! Thanks for the video, it's made my day. I'm happy to know that i'm not the only person who writes left handed but does every thing else right handed LOL.
I got 4 hits out of 15 shots at a mile with my creedmoor. Odd that our dope was so different on elevation, mine was 80 moa. My wind was 13 moas but it's windy all the time here. I had a bounce off the ground into my target that left a perfect sideways bullet mark. That gun is out of gas big time at that range:)
It's a great round, but I have a lot of love for my old 6.5 Swede which is so close to this. Would like to see Ruger make a rifle in that classic old round.
So could you see the hit when you made it? I was thinking no way but I could be wrong. I've never shot past 800 yards. Regardless that hit was beautiful, great job.
No I could not see the hit. My part 2 video I could see the hits. ua-cam.com/video/5HWodfjRWas/v-deo.html It really depends on how much sunshine there is on seeing the hits good.
Great Job! Taking a low cost gun and making it work. Good Job Ruger in turning out a great rifle at a great price. I would like to know what you think of the .243
I love the 243 caliber. I just have one in a Savage Model 12. I have took it out to 1200 yards with the 105g Amax. I've been meaning to take the 87g Vmax out to 1000 yards one of these days. A 1-9 twist will shoot 60g all the way up to 105g. It's definitely a very universal gun.
Good shooting. I’d bet it’s gone subsonic and that’s giving you some fits. I’d bet if you move the target up to right before it goes sub you’ll be hitting a nice percentage.
I was having trouble spotting shots. A mile is past it practical range. Yes it will do it but not well. It shoots excellent out to 1200 yards, and okay at 1400. These ELD Bullets fly very well.
Ya know, that was good. I wonder if you figured out the dope and tried again/ Anyway, its so funny to see all of these videos on youtube because back in the late 90`s, and early 2000`s I was always filming my shooting. Just never would have thought back then that there would have been a thing such as this where everyone could share their fun. I know, im old. But happy. try to pop 3 in a row...good luck
Here is another video at a mile with 2 hits. ua-cam.com/video/5HWodfjRWas/v-deo.html I haven't tried it since this video. If conditions get good and dry again, I might give it another shot.
311 inch drop at 1000 yards is what was reported by Magazine on 6.5 right now . Like most Creed shooters they have been shooting for weeks if not Months to finally get there rounds on target . Ok ! You got it ! A 1$000 scope has to come with it right ? Drop compensator for 311 inches or more ? A lot clicking ! 1/4 MOA . There is UA-camR with a 9mm revolver who made a shot mile away and hit balloon on plywood so ? Im a Believer right ?
Yeah, at 4:44 it sounded to me like the bullet hit the ground first, then the plate. U can hear 4 items in succession: bullet “rip” thru air, dirt impact, gong impact, then 1-mile away muzzle blast. Note: even though your bullets were sub-sonic at this point does not mean that the sound of muzzle blast has “caught up” to the bullet. Once at bullet drops to the sub-sonic range, remember that is has covered a lot of ground while it was super-sonic, and the muzzle blast is still far behind it, auditorily speaking. A bullet has to go through the trans-sonic range, and travel at sub-sonic velocity for some time for the bullet and muzzle blast sound to arrive at the target at the same time. In every one of your shots you can hear the distant muzzle blast as a soft “pop” about 1 second after the sound of the impact.
Why push a 6.5 that hard @ 1760 yards the bullet is only going 990+- fps ( SS 1122 fps) 300 fpe luck will play into it more then anything Just asking, why not go to something like 6.5x284?
I just wanted to push this $400 rifle to a mile. There is one other youtuber that has done it and I wanted to give it a try. If you watch my second video at a mile, I get on target in 4 shots and scored 2 hits, I was happy with that. This round is out of gas at that range but it will do it. I haven't tried since I filmed the second video last spring. I just enjoy shooting this at 500-1000 or so yards now.
We will need people like you for a red dawn scenario 🙏
AWESOME!!!! Way to stick with it and achieve that goal! Proud of you dude.
Thanks, that means a lot!!!!

Yeah, I don't see how you guys are making these shots. My American in 308 starts shooting high and off to the side after the first 4 round magazine. They need to make a scope with a red a blue reticle. First shots using the blue one and then switch to the red one when it warms up :D .
giantpune let it cool. keep doing it you will reck the barrel
giantpun, the predator version of the ruger american will take longer for the barrel to heat up and loosen up the groups.
wish I lived near you I would spot for you and then you spot for me. having a good spotter cut your misses in half. you a honest guy to show the misses

I don't stalk game, I just sit in a stand or on a log and wait patiently. Long as I'm not over 10lbs with optics, full magazine and sling I'm happy.

@@dustinhovatter7914 I agree that's a long shot with a 22lr plinkster

Good shot! That’s tough solo.

Just the 6.5 Grendel and Creedmoor for the Predator, according to their website.

No, If I seen a box in a store, I would probably try a box. I just bought factory ammo to get started. I handload everything for it now.
Nice! I'm surprised you needed to trim back the forend to float the barrel though. Good job! Loved seeing you hit it. I hope to work up to the same distance with my new Ruger Precision in 6.5.
Sounds like it's subsonic by the time it reaches it which means it's likely tumbling.
Left hand man with a right hand rifle. Love it
It works out real well I if you are writing data down.
That's some extreme shooting there brother!
Thanks
Those must be some hot slippery handloads to stay supersonic at a mile
Guess it's subsonic on impact... what kind of consistency were you able to get with the bullet coming back though the sound barrier?
They seem to stay stable. No signs of any tumbling. I don't have the paper handy, but I think they were around 900 or so feet per second at a mile.
243 Outdoors thanks
The military is considering this 6.5 CM and I agree it will be a welcome to the people at arms. A great police choice as well!!
Joe leblanc police need to work on proper training first.

I really appreciate your videos! Thank you for making these and posting them!
I’m new to this, I have the same rifle with Hornady Factory 140 ELD-M .
Ballistic AE shows only 72 MOA needed for a mile. What’s wrong here?
A number of things. Factory 140 is faster than my round. The elevation of the land is a major contributor. Also the Ballistic Coefficient falls off as the velocity drops especially when the round goes subsonic.
What was your mv with those loads?
Great job! Happy for you!
the other day we did the same with a 25-06 and 120 sierra game kings,,and a 270 with 140 game kings,,,,and of course it took some sighters to get there,,,and a guy with a 26 nosler did get there too,,,but his barrel got hot and walked all over,,the little 6.5 creedmore,,seemed to have the least power and slightest marks on the steel,,,,,about like a 243,,,,,which shoots flatter,,,
Can you tell much difference with the tacfire 308 muzzle brake? Recoil and loudness? Thanks
What size gong??? Where can I get one ?????
Dang, they let you shoot that close to the road there?
Congrats man ....Gr8 work on getting the 1 mile hit ! ....subbed ya :)
Thanks!!!
Just an observation, you wrote with your left hand and shot right handed. Are you left handed ?
Imagine setting near a road like this in California. Oh boy the commotion 🤣🤣🤣
Great shooting! I felt like I was right there with you...found myself talking to the screen, giving spotter advice...heheheh...congrats on your 1 mile shot!
Thanks, I wish I could of heard you, it would of helped a lot.
Amazing shooting. Could you see the splash through your scope ??
No not then, but in this video I could, I got on target in 4 shots. ua-cam.com/video/5HWodfjRWas/v-deo.html
Almost hit your camera lol, nice job keep at it!
hahahah watched that shot like 5 times i was lmao LOL
what target cam are you using? any repeaters or boosters? I just bought the caldwell one for $350. Has good reviews but haven't tested it yet.
It's just a generic go pro from Walmart. No live stream.
awesome shot man what would you say was the total cost for your set up looking at getting a 6.5 either a Ruger American or a Savage arms
I'm right at $1500 in mine. Half of it is in the scope.
Damn! The ridiculously impressive.
You had a car go by that close to your target?
Great video dude. Stay awesome.
The stock base is just fine. I would check the torque on it. I have heard some of the guns the base screws are not tight.
243 Outdoors Thanks for the insight and quick reply.
I just did a video yesterday on the Burris XTR Signature Rings.
I hope you know your responsible for me buying that gun. Havent even shot it yet
PING! Nice shooting.
How big is that gong ? Looks like a little ufo geesh
36 inches
Sounded like it bounced off the ground then hit the gong which would make sense considering most shots were hitting the ground short of the target..
I assure you it didn't bounce. What you are hearing is the report of the gun. The bullet is subsonic at that distance and you hear the report of the shot first, then hear the impact.
Then why don't we hear the report of the gun a split second before the impact on EVERY other shot???
only the one where the target was hit?
Hot damn, nice shot!!!
bad ass!! congrats! huge achievement
Thanks.
Cool shooting... interesting to note that you're a left handed writer, right handed shooter, left eye dominant.
I am right eye dominant. I still shoot a pistol left handed though.
I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I shoot pistol right handed, long guns left handed, left eye dominant. It's a mess.... Anyway, great shooting!
Thats impressive, i recently got an American Predator, cant wait to hopefully reach a mile
I have a second video where I get 2 hits. That was the last time I tried at a mile. I should get the chance to shoot a mile again in about 2 months. Can't wait!!!
first hit sounded like it bounced off the ground first.
Really impressive with an MOA scope, without a spotter, and with that small of a target.
SNIPER!!! WELL DONE BROTHER!!!! AWESOME VIDEO!!!
Great shot! Thanks for the video, it's made my day. I'm happy to know that i'm not the only person who writes left handed but does every thing else right handed LOL.
Rifle and Bows, right hand. Writing and Pistols, Left hand.
Oh Yeah, a mile is definitely past it's range. I have a 1400 yard video, and it did good for the windy conditions.
Now I see the advantage of a 6.5. Freaking crazy accuracy and distance.
What is your zero range with all of that moa built into your mount?
I still have a 100yd zero.
It's a great round, but I have a lot of love for my old 6.5 Swede which is so close to this. Would like to see Ruger make a rifle in that classic old round.
I just watched Hickok45's video on the 6.5 Swede. It's very neat. I think the 6.5 caliber is a sweet spot in caliber size.
If you had a spotter, I believe you would have been on target a lot sooner...good job!!! Congrats!
So could you see the hit when you made it? I was thinking no way but I could be wrong. I've never shot past 800 yards. Regardless that hit was beautiful, great job.
No I could not see the hit. My part 2 video I could see the hits. ua-cam.com/video/5HWodfjRWas/v-deo.html
It really depends on how much sunshine there is on seeing the hits good.
Nice shooting!. Just goes to show you don't need a $10,000 and a crazy high powered cartridge to make hits at extreme distances.
That's a SUPER great idea for a shooting table! I'm gonna so that!!...and you almost fubar'd your camera lol! nice shooting!!
Yeah it works great. I actually have 2 of them. I figured if someone stole one I have a back up.
What is the barrel size
Now the 6.5 PRC please
Good shooting. I’d bet it’s gone subsonic and that’s giving you some fits. I’d bet if you move the target up to right before it goes sub you’ll be hitting a nice percentage.
I was having trouble spotting shots. A mile is past it practical range. Yes it will do it but not well. It shoots excellent out to 1200 yards, and okay at 1400. These ELD Bullets fly very well.
Wow, talk about lobbing one in. Great piece of shooting
Did the first hit bounce off the ground first? Sounded like it. Or is that just the second camera picking up the sound of the shot?
No it didn't bounce. The bullet has gone subsonic at that range so you hear the report of the rifle first then the impact.
243 Outdoors gotcha! Good hit!
Nice hit!
awesome shot!! how do u like ur tacfire compensator?
Thanks!!!! I love the tacfire. No complaints.
Your a lefty and you shoot right handed. Are you right eye dominate?
Yes, I am a lefty. I shoot a rifle right handed because I am right eyed dominate. I do shoot a pistol Left handed but still use my right eye.
Is that the actual time of flight from the shot to impact? Great shooting!
Yes, it should be very close to the actual flight time according to the ballistic calculator.
Congrats!
What an awesome shot. Great job.
How are you sotting/reviewing the target camera? Is there some kind of wi-fi? I assume you are not driving out after each shot to review the tape.
I was shooting 10 shots then running down range on the 4 wheeler and watching it on the camera or laptop.
That is awesome!
Good effort, nice shootin!
What scope you using? Nice work
It is a Sightron Siii 6-24x50
That is awesome! So glad you got it! Keep at it brother
Was it just me or did that hit the ground first then the plate
What you are hearing it the report of the shot first, then the impact, because it is now subsonic at that distance.
Why push a 6.5 that hard @ 1760 yards the bullet is only going 990+- fps ( SS 1122 fps) 300 fpe luck will play into it more then anything
Just asking, why not go to something like 6.5x284?
I just wanted to push this $400 rifle to a mile. There is one other youtuber that has done it and I wanted to give it a try. If you watch my second video at a mile, I get on target in 4 shots and scored 2 hits, I was happy with that. This round is out of gas at that range but it will do it. I haven't tried since I filmed the second video last spring. I just enjoy shooting this at 500-1000 or so yards now.
243 Outdoors all the reason you need. Thanks
nice! what size is the target you shot?
36"
