Ruger American Gen 2 vs. Predator: 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle Showdown
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- The Ruger American Predator and Ruger American Gen 2 rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor share a common heritage but exhibit distinct characteristics that cater to different preferences and shooting styles. One notable difference lies in their respective designs and intended uses. The American Predator is tailored for precision shooting with features like a heavier barrel and a threaded muzzle for suppressor attachment, making it a popular choice among long-range shooters and hunters seeking enhanced accuracy and reduced recoil.
On the other hand, the Ruger American Gen 2 is designed with versatility in mind. Its lightweight construction and ergonomic stock make it a more maneuverable option, suitable for hunters covering varying terrains or shooters who prioritize portability. The Gen 2 often appeals to those looking for a rifle that strikes a balance between precision and practicality, excelling in scenarios where agility is as crucial as accuracy.
Another significant distinction is the barrel length and profile. The American Predator typically features a longer and heavier barrel, optimizing it for sustained accuracy and precision at extended distances. In contrast, the Gen 2 may have a slightly shorter and lighter barrel, making it more suitable for shooters who prioritize a nimble and agile rifle without sacrificing too much in terms of accuracy.
Ultimately, the choice between the Ruger American Predator and Gen 2 in 6.5 Creedmoor boils down to individual preferences and specific use cases. Whether it's long-range precision shooting or a more versatile, all-around rifle, both models offer Ruger's reliability and quality craftsmanship, providing shooters with options to match their unique requirements.

Thanks Gary. Happy New Year.
Will Magpul mags work on the predator?
I"m not a fan of muzzle breaks, would just put a thread protector on it if mine.
It can be replaced. The Gen 1 only has a thread protector
Same. I’d love a long barrel model without a brake. Ruger would be cool AF to do this shorty version and then have an LR version with a bunch of 24” or 26” barrels
So we watch you shoot both guns for comparison with no target results. I dont get it.
Future video.
My only question is …. The stock on gen 2 good enough to keep or better off upgrading to magpul hunter stock ? My predator stock is crap new one looks good but is it worth keeping or is it flex too ??
It is better than the Gen 1. At some point I may upgrade my Gen 1 but will leave the Gen 2 alone. Thanks for watching
Do yourself a favor and get the MDT Field Stock or the KRG Bravo stock over the Magpul Hunter.
Any idea how much weight you save by removing the buttstock extension? I'm trying to pair it with a young shooter and I can't find this information anywhere.
Not sure but it probably isn't much considering how light the stock is
Ruger made a damn fine budget rifle that needed to be changed very little and at no additional expense. Mostly engineering and design flaws. The problem they are having now is taking the budget out of the budget class rifles. They need to get a proper length barrel, a good non gimmick trigger, get rid of the fluting and brake as well as the plastic parts and get them down to around 450 USD. Otherwise, they can just fugg right off.
Bidenomics, brother. Keep voting democrat. They will steal from others and give you a little more, but they will inevitably make everyone poorer. Kiss your $300-400 budget rifles goodbye.
You just described the Gen 1 in an aftermarket stock
If I did I surely didn't mean to. There is too much plastic on that gun. Magazine, bolt shroud, and a gimmick trigger. Its stock would be ok if it were stiffer and the thin part along the barrel channel was thicker and a little more clearance. A stock more like the 7722 of the 2010 era except with a cheek piece and raise monte carlo stock. Of course have some wood stocks too for those that want them. A winchester model 70 of 1950s era style trigger that is easily adusted and very cheap to make would be nice. The main thing is keep that price low with all quality parts and good design with the shooter in mind.@@BoomStickTactical
@@Strutingeagleyour describing what you want. Most people want other things out of this rifle! The customers spoke and Ruger answered with the gen 2. Now watch em fly off the shelf! How do you figure that amazing trigger is a "gimmick" ?
I mean gimmick from a marketing perspective. All gun manufacturers are hungry for market share, and they basically rode on the back of the savage rifle trigger success and the stock design was very similar. Ruger does use gimmick marketing fairly successfully but they over do it at the expense of the consumer. A classic example is the 1022 bx trigger. The bean counters said yes a better trigger is a good thing but make the buyers pay for the bad trigger then they will want to buy the bx trigger and we can afford to have one hellova Christmas party this year and make a shit ton of money to boot. I think you are right about them flying off the shelves for a minute because there are enough die hard fan boys that will want these. As cost goes up there becomes other options in the market people will consider. My point isn't that it is a bad gun, it is just getting away from its original purpose of being a good budget rifle option for those that can not afford the Hawkeye or don't like the Hawkeye. I am glad they got rid of the gimmick zipper texture on the bolt after all these years and I do like the safety on it now. Not a fan of the short threaded barrel or the fluting. That is added cost right there. It is possible to make a damn fine budget rifle that they can continue unchanged for decades but the fad/gimmick marketing seems to be the direction they are going. I get a kick out of the newer shooters reasoning and ramblings. They will study ballistics charts for hours to find the best cartridges and pick one because it is a hundred feet per second faster then buy a gun with a 16 or 18 inch barrel. They like the compactness of the gun then add a suppressor onto it making it much longer. Not everyone gives a flying fu(# about a loud bang when the shoot game and when they are target shooting they wear ear protection anyway. @@nateburns5933
I have heard the actual barrel length on the Gen 2 is 18.75 inches ? Good test would be a muzzle velocity difference between the 2 versions! Thanks for the good review, however for me the music is annoying.
Yes, the difference in barrel length is the muzzle break. I used the published specs for the video. Thanks for watching
Original has a barrel length of 22" the new version is 18.75" that's not a difference of a muzzle brake
There is a little over an inch of barrel hidden inside the receiver and barrel nut, so the barrel length actually is 20" and the muzzle brake isn't included in the overall length listed on the website. If you use a tape measurer to measure length it wouldn't be accurate because you are unable to see that extra inch. A Gen 2 20" barrel is the exact same length as a threaded 20" gen 1.
You didn’t mention your target size. That and the wing could explain the missed.
Also you didn’t really go into the old style magazine and the new AI Mag. The AI mag well will also take the larger Ruger Precision magazine well.
More videos coming. Watch the follow up videos
yaaaaaa where did you find a sunshade to fit in a vtx crossfire?
It came with it
Whats the price difference between both of the rifles?
I've seen them within 150 of each other. The Gen 1 is higher now than when I got mine.
Both take the same pattern of magazines?
It depends on the particular one you get. Yes, some of the originals will use the same mag as the new one and some won't .

I have a Ruger American Go Wild in 308 and have had my bolt pop open while on my shoulder hiking, that is my biggest complaint outside of that I absolutely love my rifle.
They're great guns
As a lefty, I sling my rifle over my left shoulder. This causes the right-sided bolt to rub against my body when walking and I have to be wary of the bolt opening. For this reason, I think the 3-position safety in the Gen II rifle is a definite plus.
@pps40ccw I am a lefty as well, it doesn't feel right for me to sling my rifle over my right shoulder.
That's just a reality when you carry your rifle with a sling.
Get a ruck with a carry attachment for it and you won't have problems anymore, I also want the Go Wild but in another caliber.
@diedfrombored5295 what Caliber you getting?
I wanted to see the accuracy, Where are the targets?
From a bench or prone they are moa. This was just shooting some steal.
I'm wanting the gen2 6.5 grendel. Something small with a big punch but more manufacturers need to make the ammo (which they will) and maybe it will get cheaper too!!! good vid bro!!!
Thanks for watching Allen. Please subscribe and share.
I have the Ruger American in 300 Win Mag and 6.5 Grendel. Very accurate rifles. I'm thinking about the Gen 2 in .308 or wait for the magnum calibers to be released. I have quite a few bolt action rifles, and to be honest the Rugers are some of the most accurate I have. Right now they're running around the $599 mark in my area, Las Vegas. I'm guessing the prices will drop as the new wears off.
I tried to get 308 but they didn't have it at the shop. Are you going to shot show in a couple weeks?
@@BoomStickTactical I'll be there. Been luck enough to get passes the past 5 years or so. I'll most likely miss the range days, son has wrestling dual meet coming up at the same time, but I'll be in the expo to look around.
@BoomStick Tactical Do you notice reduced recoil with the Gen 2 with the muzzle brake?
I personally can't feel any real difference.
Gen 2 looks really nice. Almost makes me regret buying my Gen 1 last year.
Save up and get one.
Man I want a 300blk Ruger American ranch gen 2. Every gun shop in my area keeps saying good luck. Why do people like you get these rifles when you have 6,8 maybe 10 of similar guns. I just lost all my guns in a house fire. And I can't even hunt this year because EVERY gun I'd like to hunt is a UA-cam video gun. The hell with a video I need a damn gun to hunt with shit. Yall a bunch of video Princesses. Let real people get the gun and get it in the woods. Shits damn ridiculous
I buy them just like you do. The only difference is I use some to make videos with.
I buy mine just like you. The only difference is I made videos with some. You might try online and have one shipped to your ffl.
I'd like to see both of them on paper it looks like the bolt sticks out quite a bit
I may do an accuracy video at some point. I can't get as accurate from a bog pod while standing as I can from a bench or prone. It doesn't do the rifles justice.
Comparing those two scopes isn’t as close as you made it sound. I have the Arken and I compare it to my Vortex DBT 6-24-50 for me it’s Vortex. I watched all the videos and will say had I paid more for the Arken I’d be mad. I earned some gift cards by exercising so I was out of pocket like $200 for scope and one piece Arken base.
Vortex has different lines of scopes. Comparing the crossfire and the arken, the arken has better clarity. I have other vortex scopes myself that are better than the vortex crossfire.
Does it come with a thread protector so you can shoot without the muzzle break?
No. It doesn't come with one.
Thanks for this comparison. I don't think I'm gonna like that 3 position safety.
How about a barrel diameter comparison between these two? At a same given point.
The safety takes getting use to.
The only problem I had with my 243 Win Ruger American was the bolt handle would catch on my coat when unsling it, and kept the rifle from firing. I found that out right away and always checked the bolt. I lent it to a friend who lost a nice 10 pointer from the bolt handle being slightly raised for the same reason. The 3 position safety keeps the bolt locked down.
Ruger makes a good firearm. Our style shooting went with the American hunter magpul .308. The longer barrel was unavailable but the 20" is probably fine for our shooting distance. Did look seriously at the gen I predator the reports of the flimsy stock turned me off.
The Hawkeye long range 26" looks good hopefully the price may drop a bit it's $500.00 more than the American hunter but, after all it is a top tier model..😊
Don't be scared of the Gen 1. They're great guns and they can easily be upgraded with a new stock.
Don't need 4 rounds ....problem solved
Exactly
No magazine issues at all with my RA Predator in .308 (nor the RA Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor which I sold to my BIL.) Shot a really nice buck this year with that little 308 which is several ounces lighter but almost exactly the same length as my other woods gun, my Marlin 35 Rem. Can’t remember which rings I ended up with but my Nikon Monarch 3-9x40mm sits as low as possible to give me a decent cheek weld so zero issues with it. For the $ they’re wanting for the new one I’ll pass. Don’t think I’d want a spiral fluted barrel for one thing.
I think the shape of the ammo tip has a lot to do with it. Most of the time I'm shooting target loads that have a very sharp tip.
@@BoomStickTacticalonly thing that won’t feed out of all the (hunting) ammo I’ve tried so far is the old round nose 180 g Rem. Core-lokts but the S&B 180 gr SP’s (that I shot my big buck with) are rather round and feed just fine. Thanks for the reply and happy New Year!
This new Gen 2 is trying to merge the two cultures of hunting and long range shooting. Hence the fluted barrel to heal with heat dissipation and the additional cheek weld to give more comfort to the shooter and a better shooting position. I haven’t seen how much they’re trying to sell them for though
Love the new Ruger but the new safety SUCKS Why SAFETY ON SAFETY OFF is all thats needed. It probably added 20 Dollars to the price of the outstanding Rifle.
They're great rifles
So, here is my situation. I bought the old predator in .308. Decided to upgrade to the magpul stock. Heavy, but cool just range toy.
But now I want to hunt. Not cool. So now I'm thinking of buying the gen 2 American (because the new predator color is still gross) in 6.5 Creedmoor.
I would put the old .308 in the new stock with a new lighter scope and put the new 6.5 in the magpul with the oversized 34mm scope I have now.
If you or anyone has knowledge that this would all fit it would be great. I'm pretty sure 308 and 6.5 would have same body and gen 1 vs 2 would be the same also, just not $700ish sure.
Also it would be nice to put the the 30 MOA rail I bought for the 308 onto the 6.5. Guessing the holes will be the same but not sure. Don't need an extra 30 moa to hunt. Trial and error cost money, youtube comments are free.
The action length should be the same and may work fine.
Daddy passed on Valentine’s Day so this year I’m using his .444
Sorry for your loss Sam
It hurt my back watching you bend over to shoot. Why wouldn't you raise the tripod?
The tripod was as high as it will go.
One for me and one for my great grandma!
Shorter barrel is there to keep the rifle from being too long with a suppressor attached.
Given the number of varieties of the Gen 1 RAR, I suspect more Gen 2 variations are in the works.
I'm sure, especially considering how popular they are
But the issue I see is that there are those who are simply saying that a 24" barrel is just too long, period. No mention of a suppressor
I would like to know if the gen 2 stock will fit the predator
I'm not sure
Great range review you’ve got me interested in the gen2 may have to give one a try.
They're nice. I'd like to get one in 308 just because it's hard to get 65 here
Bye the way BOOM GREAT Video!
Thanks
I changed the mag in the predator to a magpul 10 rd, no issues at all
Where can I find a replacement magwell kit? I've looked everywhere
@@BoomStickTactical I called Ruger and got the AICS mag well (they have to check serial number). It was less than $25 with tax and delivery.
I couldn’t find a Magpul magwell without buying their stock. It’s a good stock for bench shooting but may be heavy for “rifleman” on the move hunting.
Is there any other way to get Magpul mag well?
that's fair. looking forward for your next video

Looking at Predator Gen 2 in 6.5 Creedmoor and found your video helpful.
what kind of accuracy are you getting with the gen2 out the box?
I plan on doing a video on that in the near future.
@@BoomStickTactical thanks, can u speed it up so i know to buy or not lol.... thanks for all you do...
@mikerowe8548 I'll see what I can do. It's comparable to the Predator I have. Probably a couple weeks before I can get the video done but I'll see if I can get it sooner. It's a mud hole at my range currently.
Fine piece of machinery.
It is a great rifle, especially for the price.
I just bought a 450 bushmaster gen2 with a 16" barrel. I love how compact it is, I took that stupid muzzle brake off and put a tread protector on it and it looks so much better now
These are great guns, especially for the price
Could’ve put either in a Magpul stock, but I went with the old faithful predator. Always heard good things about it.
I would keep the gen2 in the factory stock but maybe the original
Had a Gen. 1 Predator and put a Timney trigger on it. ALWAYS sub 1 MOA groups and with Hornady Precision Hunter ammo I got barley one 1/2 " 5 (FIVE!) shot groups. Sold it B/C it had no bolt lock.
The Gen. 2 American has some needed improvements for only a little more money.
The Gen 2 is an amazing rifle for the money
Bought a Gen 2 in .223, been pretty cold up here in Montana, but got out for a bit last week. Like all Americans I've shot, it is very accurate. With a handload using a Speer 55gr BTHP W/BLC2 powder. .5" group at 200 yards. Not bad for a brand new rifle.
Ruger has made a great rifle with this one
Useless gun 18 inch gunsmith 2 inch break that sucks ruger ...don't want a arken scope on any of my guns they are awfull..35 years experience at long distance..what a flop
That's why we live in America. Everyone doesn't need to like the same things.
Will never buy a gun with a plastic trigger guard, sorry. Short barrel on Gen 2 why? Tiny ejection port on both, you can have both of these Tupperware Gems.
I do have them and wouldn't mind a couple more. These are an accurate and affordable gun for those who cannot afford more expensive gear.
I prefer a minimum of a 22” barrel. This is actually a bit over 18”. The muzzle brake shouldn’t count in the length of the barrel imho..
It works for hunting purposes
I believe the American Ranch in the 6.5GR is a good gun, however that cheek rest might need a little more for me. You can probably take deer at 150 to 200 with the optic on it. However here in the south if there is hunting to be done theres no flat land that far out so its a good fit.
You can get different size cheek rests for them.
So the American G2 Ruger still has the same magazine problem regarding 4 shots, you hid it, it wasn't cool...
No, the mag that co.es with the Gen 2 only holds 3 rounds. You can get higher capacity mags for it.
Gotta love the hate on the short barrels.
Shorter barrels means less barrel
harmonics.
And most people cannot out shoot the capabilities of the gun.
I had a 270 Ruger Mark II M77 with a #1 contour Hart barrel 25" long that shot one hole 3 and 4 shot groups with 150 Berger VLDs and H4831SC, 130 Barnes TSX and Reloder 19 and 130 Barnes TTSX over Superformance. All of my custom long action rifles have 24 or 26" barrels from #1 to #5 contour. Fortunately, I've been able to find a one hole handload with all but 1 and most of those are with Berger VLDs. I dismissed the relevance of short barrel harmonics 30 years ago.
@@Accuracy1st the key word is custom.😂
@@larrygabbard4896 I was shooting factory configuration rifles long before my first custom build and did fine with handloads in Rugers, Brownings, and Rem 700s. What else ya got? Next key word is handloads?? 🤣
@@larrygabbard4896 Guess I was lucky. In quite a few instances I shot better with my standard length and sporter contour barrels than those who claimed their short bull barrels were better. Short barrel 👎👎😟NFG.
Guns are getting better and this is one example of it. Testing is showing that these are very accurate and velocity loss isn't as much as you might think

The new barrel choice is silly and childish. I'll pass until I can get a regular barrel.

Good video. I'm considering trading my Ruger American Gen 1 in 243 for the Gen 2 rifle in the same caliber. None of the shops around me have any in stock though. Would you say there is enough upgrades to make the switch? Thanks
That would depend on what you want and the cost difference. If I were buying just one right now, it would be the Gen 2 because of the features, the looks and the stock.
How about the Gen 2 predator model vs the original predator?
These are the closest I've got

I woder if the new iteration feeds 100% of the time. Anyone brave enuf to run 20-50 rounds to see if it does? I doubt it. Tika feed every single time, similar price, better action and trigger, same accuracy
Tika is also more expensive. As far as feeding, I've not had any issues with the Gen 2 yet.
If you get a model that uses AICS magazines, buy a metal magazine, and TUNE your magazines feed lips to your specific setup and you’ll never have that issue again

How many yards is the American Generation 2 capable of shooting chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor?
I've seen people go out to 1200 with them.
Dang! And that is the Regualar Gen 2 not the predator? I am looking for a gun that isn’t super expensive that can shoot longer distances. At first I was thinking a Remington 700 but I am thinking I like the Ruger with the fluted barrel more.
Would you recommend this gun or the Remington?
I like everything about the gen2 other than it's got a 20" barrel. The 22" seems more appropriate for 6.5 creed. I think for 308 it doesn't matter too much but I feel the 6.5 functions better in the longer barrel.
It's actually 18.75
Few people could ever out shoot the capacity of this gun.
@@BoomStickTactical Not sure what you mean?
Take off the brake and the barrel is only 18.75" so it's a fair bit shorter@@brandon1910
Anyone that has never had the bolt flop open while carrying a rifle hasn't carried one very far or frequently.
Been carrying a model 70 for 40 yrs does that qualify ? Never had a Bolt flop Open !
It has a lot to do with how you carry it. I've been all through the woods, across fences and just about anywhere you could imagine and haven't had it happen.
The Ruger Hawkeye and gen 2 doesn't flop open either. Of course it and the model 70 and some other makes don't count because engineering has taken care of the problem which kind of highlights the deficiency of this gen 1 gun. The other thing to note with this issue is that I do not carry a round in the chamber anymore unless I am sitting on stand or carrying it in my hands because I am in a place where I am likely to see game and get a shot. I just don't pack em cocked and locked on my shoulder. When I did, I have had bolts flop open and lose the chambered round. @@wallacerose7499

I don't understand why they call the stock on the first gen "flimsy", the buttstock is hollow, but I have 2 American's and they do not feel flimsy at all. I appreciate the lighter weight as opposed to having to lug around a heavier stock such as the Magpul, great for bench shooting, but not for hiking for miles
The biggest negative is how flexible they are along with the but stock not giving good cheekwell. They are a great rifle but I wanted to cover all of the complaints people have had also.
I believe the 'flimsy' part of the Gen1 stock refers to the forend.
I held one today at cabela’s to test the forend. Way stiffer than a lot of comparably priced options. Better than hogue, Mossberg, savage (non-accustock), bergara hunter. I was honestly surprised and thought this may have been runaway hype. They may have also just made more recent prodtions a bit stiffer without letting anyone know. It would probably call more negative attention to it than it’s worth to announce that if that was the case. I just don’t want to call anyone with a circa 2015 RA a liar if it was way flimsier back when it was $300 street price.
@@Snailz5the new Gen 2 stocks have the 3rd “iteration” for fore end “webbing”….the Gen 2’s also have more polymer on the outside “shell” of the fore end to help prevent flexing
Budget rifles simply aren’t interesting 👎
They may not be to some people but they are to others.
I've been on a Tikka kick for about 18 months now. I've been buying them pre-owned and new for $400 to $850 out the door. JUST MY OPINION, but with those prices so close to the Ruger and with the ultra smooth Tikka action, and also it's incredible accuracy, the Tikka wins for me. I've not owned any Ruger other than M77 and M77 Mark IIs but I've handled the American Predator. The Tikka is much nicer for nearly the same price.
Should have compared groups on paper.
Future video for when my range isn't a mud hole
I’d really just get a cva cascade. It has a better trigger same price.
I’ve seen it creep up to $650-700 for most models. Street price for RA2 is as low as $550. Still want a cascade, but there is a price difference..
The price difference is still up there.
Hlo sir how to buy am indian

what bio pod do you have on the gen 2

Wish they made it in 6.5x55
Who knows what they will do eventually
800yrds😅😅😅😅😅 100-200
Not easy to get flat ground that far in some places. Where do you think hillbillies live?
Likes this rifle 😊
It's nice. Thanks for watching
Are the ruger American and Winchester xpr similar?
I don't have enough experience with the Winchester to know.
@@BoomStickTactical ever shoot one?
I would rate the original rap and the xpr as the xpr having a slight upper hand overall similar in build, fit and finish. But the trigger on the xpr is much better. Breaks like glass and the over travel is adjustable which it is not on the rap. Can't speak for the gen 2 rap personally. Seems to be a big improvement in fit and finish overall. I paid 350 for my rap 5 years ago and it now resides in a magpul hunter stock and I cerekoted it so it's a pretty neat package for the woods of northeast united states. Paid around 600 for my xpr last year and it's a nice slightly better than budget rifle that shoots, feeds, and looks great. If I had to choose between the rap and xpr, it would be a literal flip of the coin with a slight edge to the xpr because of the superior trigger.
What sunshade on the vortex?
It came with the scope.
I just do not like that spirel barrel on the gen two
The gen 1 is still available
Me either....i tried but cant...it looks like a big screw nail for decking.
@@steverugerguy9606 LMAO. 🤣
What's the moa on that rale
Basically zero from what I can tell but it is replaceable
Ok thanks
Me like.
Me too
good stuff
Thanks for watching.
Looking forward to the 7PRC coming out. I’ve got a gen 2 ranch in 556 on its way to my FFL as we speak.
Cool.
You want the 7 prc with that short of a barrel? Really neutering the round
@@nateburns5933 not really. Plenty of velocity to take animals at extended distances and has the high bc bullets at useable ranges. Hunting in the back country with a suppressor I really appreciate the shorter barrel and will give up 100 FPS for the advantages
Had this gun 4 how long still no.groups anybody can hit steel
@@nateburns5933the prcs, win mags, and long actions will not come out with a short barrel
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
I wouldn't buy the new model in anything except short action cartridges. I like a minimum 22" barrel for standard length or magnum cartridges. I have a 7mm08 in the original gen1. It's a solid rifle for the money. I would consider a 243,6mm Creedmoor, 308 in the new model.
This is a great little gun.
@@BoomStickTactical I'm thinking about a 243 or 6mm Creedmoor.
Im gonna get a gen 1...either the predator in 223 or the ranch in 556/223 i just want a plinking/target rifle...more powerful than a 22 mag or 17 hmr so im thinkung 556 or 223 would be perfect and plentiful and still powerful enough for small to medium game.i just cant like the fluted spiral barrel on the gen 2...it looks strange to me ..like a screw nail for decking...great video.
Nothing wrong with them
Ruger could have designed a much better looking Gen. II than this model and why they didn't is a wonder... I own a Gen. I American 7mm08 and a Predator in 22-250. Both are extremely accurate and the stocks they came are entirely suitable for anyone that knows how to handle a rifle. I hunt or shoot with mine, year round and have never found even a slight issue to complain about where the stock is concerned.
You might look at a 22-250 Rem. for that step up rifle you're talking about! It's a great old caliber and does a lot of heavy lifting if loaded right...
The predator is a just a shorter barrel of the standard, worst stocks on a factory gun possibly ever. Looking forward to getting hands on gen 2. Can agree on that crappy gen 1 safety allowing the bolt to fall open on longer hikes (western states mountain hunting). Glad to see that fixed
Have you handled the stock or are you just going off word of mouth. I held one today because lots of people like to pile on to the hype and I wanted to see for myself. It felt plenty stiff and sturdy and there was very little barrel flex. I’ve seen far worse from hogue stocks, Mossberg, bergara’s hunter. Savage axis is slightly worse as well. 110 apex is slightly better.
Ruger cuts cost where they can to get the price down where more people can afford them.
Ruger Gen II (20 inch barrel WITH BRAKE), 300WinMag, true18" barrel (or 18.75) = USELESS - nothing but a hard kicking 308. Short barrels for the 7PRC, 270, 30-06, and 6.5PRC, all in the new Gen II line-up - USELESS. Why buy a new rifle that sports a short barrel that limits the true potential of the cartridge? Part of it is all the hype with adding a suppressor. If you just HAVE to have a limiting rifle with a short barrel, just stick with a 308, 7-08, 243, 260Rem, or 6 Creed or 6.5 Creed, 270 Titus.
Each gun can have a specific purpose. This gun would be great for hunting.
@@BoomStickTactical Agreed but Ruger, unfortunately, lumped an entire line-up (thus far), where each gun does NOT have a specific purpose. Since your's is a 6.5 CM, a short action, the 18" barrel is fine. My complaint is the larger cartridges and their shackled velocities - totally hinders the cartridge design and intended purposes and velocities. Again, I can see a utility for a short action, non-mag in an 18" tube but that's it
Does the 20” barrel include the muzzle brake or is it 20” and then the muzzle brake?
@@jasonmausteller2488 The 20” includes the break. It’s like 18.75” without it.
Totally agree. Just put the proper length barrel for caliber already!
I don't think Bill Ruger would have not approved of the gen 2. To many things sticking out. The new mag just ruins it. Oh well that's why the marketing calls new model's new and improved. But actually it's the accountant's getting in on the design. I'd buy a gen 1.
He would approve, especially when he saw the sales figures.
