I’m a retired Army Infantry Senior NCO and was issued the steel pot then the PASGAT in 84 and finally in 2005 we got the ACH. Most of us older NCO’s didn’t really like the idea of having less coverage but it was a lot more comfortable in the desert/Iraq. When it’s 138 outside, you’d do anything to cool down just a few degrees. Heat is the one thing that slowly breaks down the protection level of these helmets, they have a sort of shelf life before they’re out of spec. So please be careful on what you’re trusting your life with if you’re buying one for a SHTF scenario. The older PASGT didn’t have that concern but the Army knew it was going to become an issue so they looked for a replacement beforehand. I’ve noticed on eBay that a lot of people label their ads as “lightweight helmet” but it’s obvious it’s just a standard helmet so learn what to look for before buying.
The stock chinstrap on the ACH sucks. The actual shell design makes sense if the amount of equipment on your back is gonna keep you from being able to aim your weapon from the prone. I think thr coverage of the PASGT is superior from strictly the standpoint of how much it covers.
@@Jewifer333x2 The standard foliage green chinstrap on ach isn't the most stable, but with NAPE pads, it's a lot more comfortable than many chinstraps, due to the cotton like fabric. I actually prefer it over the opscore chinstrap which is kind of irritating if you strap it up.
Ach has Kevlar but also made up of other layer materials that give more protection over the pasgt. Pasgt and ach are not just a different shape or chin strap.
Hello I just purchased an msa ach, but I’ve heard of an ach gen 2 if that’s the right name for it. ArmorSource as505 seems to have been first issued in 2016-2017 and made of a mix of Kevlar and maybe uhmwpe or something like that and shaved .25lb off size large, I can’t find solid information on that but it has a real 3a rating whereas the ach isn’t exactly 3a. Mr guns and gear has a video of him shooting an as505 and it did pretty well with not a lot of back face deformation even against 300blk. I was just wondering if you had heard anything about that ach gen2 or not and if I should sell my ach and buy the gen2 for 50$ more😂😂
308 and 7.62x54r protection? are you sure? that doesn't seem right for a helmet... I don't know much about the helmets but what I saw online the ECH is still 3A protection with only pistol level threats up to .44 magnum?
It is from the ground up designed to defeat rifle level threats at not point blank range but at 100 meters it’s designed to defeat 308. Me and Mike b also tested this and shot one on his channel
Great video. Thanks Devin...good gouge. Question: How do you date a Ceradyne ECH? Not the CNCT#: 67854-09 Contract number on all Ceradyne's, but the actual date individual helmets were made?
The chinstrap on the ech is more like an ops core and has suede on it on the nape pad the ach standard had a synthetic nylon nape pad. Also the ech had an injection plastic rim and the ach had a hardened rubber rim.
How does the echo measure up to helmets with a higher cut for comms? Can you do the same mods as a high cut? What about bullet proof visor... can u attach it on a echo? What would be bad or good about a ballistic visor? Also low cut seems like it protects way more than a high cut?
Basically yes to all your questions except a few low cut offers more coverage and the for more protection and you can use comms with an ech just as good as a high cut that’s what the war flares are for. It can take a visor.
Ty for reading past my typos. This video was one of the best out there. A couple more questions... 1. Arch rail systems can be set up on an ech? 2. Why would it be a bad idea to have a ballistic visor? 3. Why don't soldiers use a ballistic visor like the ones offered at opscor , gentext active shooter kit? 4. Do they scratch too easily? Its a gift and I want my family members to be the MOST covered but also mobile/agile/functional etc. Send me ur patrion link please. These answers are worth paying for.
Another question... where was the helmet you tested from and do u think hardheadveteran helmets are the exact same? Meaning rated for 44 mag but can do similar results as your video vs an 7.62 round?
What's is the asking price for for that ECH,and does it comes in Foliage Green,and/or with a camouflage cover, and a goggles anchor with night vision mount? Hold-up,as the caliber of bullet got bigger, the damage to the ECH became more pronounced. Are you sure that ECH can take a 7.62×39/54 etc.? Okay,I see it stopped it,but damn...that's a massive head wound, afterwards.
Claude Sledge yeah it’s designed to defeat rifle rounds but not at point blank, I’ll sell it with a cover, they are all brown at least the military ones are, and the price is $1500
I have the first ech from creadyne inc brought from ebay its heavily use d and the ir paint is gone but i have one Question where can i get the ir paint for my ech helmet???
STAHLHELM TURTLE yeah it can achieve similar characteristics but you have to get it done right where it breaks up the ir signature or otherwise it will look bright or full under ir
You said that the ECH has a weight trade off compared to the ACH, but looking at the technical manuals for each, the ACH is actually slightly heavier (51 vs 53 ounces for a size large for the ECH and ACH respectively). Are you referring to the ACH gen 2? I have no idea if soldiers were even really issued those much but apparently a size large is 2.5 pounds.
@@DevinK ah interesting. I wonder why the TM’s say differently? Did you measure them with the same hardware or no hardware? I saw you had a nape pad on in the video that wasn’t included in your measurement right?
@@smesaric nope I measured just empty shells and I know for a fact this isnt more then likely the ech most people get in the army the vast majority will be 3m made ones this one is a very early version it was adopted but not many made it to the army before this company was bought by 3m and the 3m ones which make up over 90% of what the military has could be lighter as I don’t have one to check

You can’t adjust the height on the helmet which is why I think they look terrible yes there very comfortable and very effective. The cover definitely hides the ugly helmet but again it’s my opinion maybe some people like it. The French Adrian helmet and the M35 German helmet are the best looking helmets in my book.
