Mosquito net is a great idea. Even if you're not wearing it when running and gunning, you need to prepare for your downtime and if you're sleeping outside at night, you're going to be VERY popular among the dudes if you have a spare mosquito meet or two, lol

We called that a "sit upon". Not just for morale but a last ditch layer of insulation. You can sit up against a tree and be insulated from the freezing ground. If light conditions permit, A poncho and candle in that position can keep you from freezing.

As far as I know the sitting pad, which I assume is a translation from Russia, began in the Afghan or Chechen Wars where the SOP for mechanized troops was to ride on top of BTRs and BRDMs because they were RPG death traps inside.

15:52 the 5.56 bandolier is absolutely perfect for guerrilla warfare. Load it with mags, perform a convoy ambush, E&E, if you can't evade dump your cheap bandolier and act like a non-combatant.
It does the same job as an expensive rig, but has the ability to be ditched with no real loss. That's incredibly valuable

I didn't own any gear last year because I thought the cost to buy in was so high, until I discovered things like the taps rig and buying used carriers etc. Now I'm almost all set. I just need a belt mounted ifak and I'll be good to go as far as belt plate carrier and chest rig.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

M81 Woodland Camo: From experience and actually having been issued this pattern here are my opinions: Unissued or newer stuff is nice to find but getting harder. If you are in very wet environments or just sweat a lot this pattern when new and colors are not desaturated tends to appear much darker when wet. Because of the large splotches of darker brown and black in the pattern it tends toward black when wet. Not good if you’re in a low contrast (non-shadowy) but very green or brown environment. Repeated washes and sun-fading helps reduce this over time. It’s a good pattern and I have nostalgia for it. But it, like all other patterns, has strengths and weaknesses. Looking almost like a charcoal silhouette in non-faded M81 that gets soaked from sweat, rain or river crossings is one drawback I personally noted from my time in the army.
ALICE Gear: if you use the canteens, always have two. In a pinch, one can be used to collect suspect water, the other to drink out of once you have made it potable. This assumes you don’t carry purpose made collection vessels or all-in-one bag type filtration systems. Also carry two cups. One is to cook in or boil water for food, coffee, etc. There was time when MREs did not have ration heaters in them. We’d boil water, take it off the flame then set the sealed food packet in the water for a few minutes to warm - never boil an MRE packet. The other cup is for making coffee, cocoa, Kool-Aid or whatever drink you want. It’s a morale thing to not have your ramen flavored with MRE coffee aftertaste and your hot cocoa not have a twang of spicy Korean mix packet from the ramen. You can also use one of the cups to collect your water instead of a canteen or to boil suspect water but I’d use the other one for actual consumption until I could properly clean the one used for collecting/sterilizing. Also carry and use electrical tape or something similarly strong. We used it as a way to eliminate ringing metal on metal contact the clips made if you bumped something. You also need to tape the clips to lock them. ALICE clips are very sturdy and last a long time. But with enough weight on them and enough times humping with them they can loosen up. The tape prevents this or can be a field-expedient fix.
BONUS: If you have a helmet as a piece of gear keeping sweat out of your eyes might be an issue. I’ve found one thing that hands down beats bandanas, Buffs, rags, and balaclavas if you are not worried about covering your face are welders’ caps. They are very light, thin skull caps meant to be worn under welders hoods. They are inherently fire resistant, cheap and you can find them at welding supply stores, Tractor Supply/Rural King, online and almost anywhere that sells any kind of welding supplies. I recommend the fitted ones over the ones with elastic because you tend to feel the elastic once you put on a helmet. They can be had in solid, natural, muted colors or commercial camo patterns. They pack smaller than the other items I mentioned and can be wring out easily when soaked.

On canteens, they are cheap enough, just buy new ones. If you put drink mix in them be sure to wash them out after use. The drink mixes have sweeteners in them and that can promote mold growth after a few days if you aren't using them. If it will be a while between uses add a couple tablespoons of mouthwash to keep them "fresh". Just pour out the mouthwash before filling them again.

The old Chicom Type 56 AK chest rig is a good el-cheapo chest rig that can go over a slick carrier or BDUs. I modified mine with velcro patches on the flaps and a buckle from a dog collar on the waist strap. I haven't done this, but you could also spray paint it easily to make it camo.

Claymore bags for extra ammo, trifold medic bags to attach to assault packs to carry extra medical for the team, milbank bags to help pre filter water for water filtration (these were the OG water filters for soldiers for centuries btw) and a military canvas water bucket.
Water sources are major ambush points. Being at one for the shortest amount of time is essential and using a canvas water bucket to quickly scoop a lot of water up and go elsewhere to filter is a good thing. The canvas slow leaks so it can be used as a less efficient milbank bag, or even better use both!

Cylume stick shield lets you carry an activated light stick but can cover the glow and has an adjustable opening to determine how much light is exposed according to need.
Sniper veil can double as a mosquito net and a shemagh

If you don't mind combining country surplus, the LBV88 or the molle medic vest do pair pretty well with the British PLCE belt and belt pad. And if you have alice clips you can link molle to the belt more sturdy than with trying to loop molle straps or malice clips

So you scored a MOLLE ARMY MEDIC VEST too did ya? 👍They're very rare. I just got one from Gibson's outside Fort Benning, GA. Ordered online - heck of a nice guy! Anyway I call the medic vest the 'SUPER Enhanced LBV-88' as it uses MOLLE to attach pouches 'anywhere' versus the sewn on non AR P-Mag fitting mag pouches of the original. I use it for the AK loadout. Best feature of both is the ability to run an ALICE or any belt through the loops on the bottom - vest becomes a harness and you can really load the belt down.

I’ve always said look at military surplus the same way your girlfriend looks at your hoodie. A little older and worn, but it’s comfortable and inexpensive. Thank you for bringing the love to the old LBV; had one for years. In a world of chest rigs, be a LBV!

I've had good luck spray painting the ACU mag pouches, the used ones take and hold the paint a little better, but the new ones work just as well, and like you said, they are dirt cheap.

That is why I stuck with my 782 gear and ALICE pack. best advice in that realm is from my dad, stick with what I know how to and trained to use. Although I did add the LBV88 vest, the vest goes with the 782 gear. Yes I"am a Marine Corps veteran and former Grunt.

I keep a variety of kit. I have an old school LBE with accessories. I have aplate carrier. I have a chest rig for both an AR9 and AR15. It's taken awhile, but having the variety allows me to choose gear based on any type of scenario. Great video! Thanks

Replacing the shoulder pads of the LBV with a standard H-harness (I like the old M1967) makes it far more comfortable and it doesn't chafe the neck. Also, other countries like Korea and the Netherlands copied it, and they are even cheaper than US versions. The S. Korean version is VERY lightweight, and the Dutch version is the best IMO because it has a sort of MOLLE panel rather than stitched on pockets. It also can take the older web belt gear because it has grommets as well. Very versatile, and a decent camo pattern. I run Coyote USMC pouches on it, and use the RH one under my armpit for my sidearm. This will work well with any G19 size weapon although 1911s are a little too long and heavy. A shorter barrelled 1911 should fit though.

I use a Fanny pack for my med kit which is really great for switching between comp, practical training, or run in the range. I keep all the usual blow out stuff and some boo-boo stuff for students like band aids, sting patch, nu-skin, etc. Big fan so far.

Hurry - don't hesitate! I've been buying mil-surp gear for a few years now (for use - not a collector) and the M81 'God's Plaid' is really drying up. You can still find USGI Woodland if you're diligent with online surfing the surplus retailers. Otherwise you'll be paying an eBay 'reseller' way too much. They're sucking the market dry and real soon eBay will be the only place to find good ol' Woodland. The vest he was referring to - LBV-88E ('Enhanced' with the slanted mag pouches) amazingly is quite available ($40).

I pray about the gear I choose and the Lord led me to the M81 LBVE-88 for $25 with belt. Since then I've added a bunch of MOLLE ammo, canteen & GP pouches for next to no money, and that are excellent for what I need.
Thanks for bringing attention to this older gear that has a lot of life left in it.
More importantly, thank you for spreading the word about a God who gives life and gives it abundantly!

Interesting video. Information about military equipment combined with religion. You Americans amaze me. What you are facing in the US, is a problem of the western world and now even we have to prepare for the worst. In case of an invasion, I would be pretty close. If you can´t escape anymore, you have to fight. The mountains in my area are perfect for ambushes and guerillia warfare. Napoleon learned his lesson here already. So, I need to learn from you guys pretty fast. The fighting spirit is not the problem but my fitness, my knowledge and my shooting skills. Times changed and the knowledge from my grandpa about ww2 combat does not help me against drones, infrared, satelites and other modern stuff. Thanks for the video!

Hey brother. Really appreciate how you put God in the forefront of your content. I’d ask that you pray for me and my girl. I’m more like you in my mindset and general MO. She’s not so sure on spiritual matters or even her understanding on the current environment of the world. But she trusts and follows me. I just pray that I can be used to influence her and my community well and for God, that I can protect us should it come to that, and that I can be wise as I try to guide us towards truth. Appreciate all you do and appreciate any prayers.

My Budgey (Budget) Gear, is the LBV. I use it a couple times a month at our bungalow on land (BOL) when doing chores or projects. Thus getting in a few reps performing armed Lazy Ass Recon Patrols (LARP). At 64, my role is more Maintenanceman rather than Minuteman. I added a tool pouch on the LBV with basic hand tools, tape, meter, zip ties, etc, and a bungee for weapon retention to keep my hands free.

They aren't surplus, but the nalgene oasis canteen style bottles are pretty solid options for a surplus canteen replacement. They don't have the canteen flavor (IFYKYK), and they're somewhat translucent so you can see if there's funky stuff going on in there or just where you're at on water. As far as the NBC canteens go, I doubt nalgene has those. However, these canteens are the same size and shape, they fit in the canteen pouches with no issues.
