You videos really help with pointing out the different models and patterns of US composite helmets. For a long time they pretty much looked the same to me.
I've watched so many of your helmet videos, over the years. Thanks so much for doing all this man. You've shared so much information for the general masses and you truly are appreciated!
When I started in the Corps I was issued an LWH Gen 1 with the green 4 point and the suspension system. It produced the worst migraines of my life. Absolutely garbage when you have to live in it. Fast forward to 2013 and I received a gen 2 that used the pads and the newer coyote 4 point harness. Much nicer and better. I now exclusively use an ACH that I’ve dumped a lot of money into or an Airframe. I love them both far better than the PASGT shell helmets. Even with the airframe I still gravitate towards my ACH. There’s just so much nostalgia there for me.
Thank you, this is a fantastic lesson that's really helping me in upgrading my gen 1 PSGT. I feel like the combo of the marine x nape chin strap and modern interior pad/suspension will be the best of all worlds to give new functionality to an old helmet
I actually had a PASGT up until just a few months ago when it was replaced with the new ECH. The marines are broke as fuck compared to the other branches so I guess almost 20 years after the PASGT was phased out, some were still being issued out. Mine however had updated pad and chinstrap system

Hello Devin, I’m planning to buy a Pasgt and make a lwh out of it. But I have a problem and I’m wondering if you could make a video on how to mount the NVG mount and bracket and the strap on both side screws. Good video by the way.
@@skatemental2828 yeah if you have all the parts it will just hook over the rim in the front and rear or the helmet and then you feed the ratchet through the open lever and pull the lever down to get tension to prevent the mount and strap from moving
Gota question for you Devin,I am wondering about fast sleeve's, the cover for the ESS goggles...I cant seem to find one in MARPAT Woodland?..however I have found them in ARMY ACU pattern and Desert Tan....any info would be greatly appreciated...thank's for the video's !....KEEP ON ROCKIN IT!......Devin K........
Another great video! As someone who was in the Marine Corps and the Army National Guard, the LWH was honestly a better helmet. I really felt like the ACH was a bit heavier than the LWH and uncomfortable. Even more so when you throw a PVS-14 on it. It was a decent pillow though.
I have a question, Devin K. Can I use the Marine Light Weight Helmet chin strap in my PASGT? Also, could I use it with the Skydex PASGT Kit instead of using their black chinstrap? Is the Oregon Aero BLSS kit seems excessively expensive at 139.00 What is going to make my PASGT the most comfortable?
Hey Devin, I have a (low quality reproduction because I'm poor) M1 Pot Helmet. It's supposed to be a WW2 replica, although I belive it's actually a Vietnam shell repro becuase it's a low-dome. Anyway it has the normal circle cord holding the asterisk type suspension. Ever since I got it it's been cutting into my head. I've had quite thick hair over the time I've had it and even worn wolly hats underneath the helmet. But it never makes a difference, still dents my skull gets kind of painful which is a shame cause I love wearing it. Do you have any advice on how to stop this? Do I add pads into the inside of the liner and just forget about the original suspension? I'd like to use the Vietnam style liner with the asterisk suspension that did away with the cord. But the thing is they aslo fitted a different nape strap and I prefer the WW2 nape strap, also they did away with the stylish wear-over-the-brim liner leather chinstrap. Silly question but, was there any M1 variant that had a 4 point chinstrap (such as the WW2 paratroopers used), a WW2 nape strap, the leather liner chinstrap, and also a Vietnam style asterisk suspension that doesn't have the cord? That would be my ideal helmet as it would have the look and feel of a WW2 helmet to it, but it wouldn't slowly dent my skull 😂 Thank you so much, (and great vid btw, very informative!)
A lot of soldier would cut foam discs out and put those at the rope of the helmet much like the army did for the airborne and their oasgt helmets you could probably find the pasgt crown pad and use one of those they do help with relieving the pressure points on the head
@@Deuce_and_a_half no they made a pad for the pasgt that has the suspention almost just like an m1 for paratrooper that you can find it’s just a thin foam pad
Hey Devin, do you know if there is a legitimate legal source for buying an ECH helmet if your not military/ police, it’s like the “holy grail” of helmets to me right now and I would love to get my filthy hands on one.
I've seen some LWH for sale on eBay but the chin straps are black, and the pad for the black of the head is more like an horizontal line than He shape. What are they?
I understand that the visor blocks forward vision a little when looking up, but I really wished the Army did not abandon the PASGT. The ECH types looks like a duck minus a head and neck. Of course, that's not the serious part of it. Coverage is poorer, and I often see in pictures and footages, Soldiers either with expose foreheads and the nape However, I do know that such a helmet is lighter.
@@DevinK, Awesome, ok, I have another question regarding fitting an LWH chin strap, would I have to drill any extra holes into the helmet in order to seat it correctly?
@@oryxace2 no the chinstrap will use the existing holes that the pasgt uses for the suspension and you will just have two empt holes where the old pasgt chinstrap used to be

I think marines went for the flare in the helmet because many times when helmets get shot on the edge they deform a lot more.
