Thanks for doing this review. I have a 2019 Comp Carbon XL 29 with a 2020 seat stay crash replacement, and running an MRP Ramp control on the fork instead of volume spacers, took out the big yellow spacer that came with the shock, and I’m running the bike with the flip chip in the high position now. Awesome vid, I used to be a long time Stumpjumper owner in the early 2000s and you got me stoked again on the Stumpy. I just got back into riding and grabbed a 2019 Santa Cruz 5010. Unfortunately I got sick during this whole Covid fiasco and I have about 2 more weeks of recovery. See you out on the trails in Ontario.

So I've been binging MTB vids, and booked my reservation slot at my local MTB track for Friday....counting down the days lol. I love mine! 2019 Stumpjumper Carbon comp 29er. Just upgraded my Wheelset this year with Stans no tube flow rims with industry nine hydra hubs. I also upgraded my calipers to 4 piston as well, gives it a lot more stopping power when bombing long descents.
Glad you took it to NH - I got the ST and KIIIIIIND of wish that I'd shelled out for the long travel (not un-changeable -- thinking about upgrading my fork and upping the travel a tad). But I love it either way. Unlike other bikes, the geometry really makes it seem like you're sitting "IN" the bike, making it feel super solid when going fast -- even on techy stuff. Even as a shorter dude --- I'm very happy I got the 29er for New England's chunky descents, those big wheels just float over rocks. I'm just a short drive from Highland and am very tempted to bring it up ....despite the fact that some seem to think you can't take 130mm of travel to the bike park. I also totally agree on sticking with this steed for quite a few years --- could see myself adding another bike to the stable and continuing to upgrade this one instead of trading it in. I ramble. Great review!
My favourite thing about the bike is that feeling you mentioned of being "In" the bike. After riding the Stumpy, I realized how awkward I felt on all my other bikes. The only other bike I felt similar on was a Norco Aurum but that is a DH
Based on your videos from last year on the 2019, and my experience with a 2012 Stumpjumper Alloy Comp for the past 7 seasons, I purchased the 2020 model. I actually got the last Large from the warehouse in Montreal. I've had 3 great rides on the bike so far and am over the moon with the decision. I added ride wrap and plan new grips, but otherwise no changes planned. Thanks for this 1 year check in...keep shredding!
I'm not sure where you live but I know they are selling like hot cakes right now! Someone even told me today that they were out of size large at the warehouse in eastern Canada.
Great review - I had exact same rear hub failure with my 2018 carbon expert after 400kms of trail riding.LBS nailed the warranty and restored my confidence in Roval wheels so much that I bought a set for my road bike!
I bought a Stumpy back in 2014. It's one of the best "jack of all trades" bikes I've owned. It's been great all around Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario, and I even took it to Whistler as well. Once I dialed in the suspension after crashing the first run (waaay overshot a jump and landed flat which bottomed out suspension and threw me off the bike like a pogo stick lol) I smashed A-line/B line/Dirt merchant and lots of other trails all day long with it. After 2-3 runs and getting more confident I was passing people with DH bikes on the runs. Never felt like I needed more bike to do it. Even the Avid brakes that get shit on, never failed to stop me from what I assume is 50-60km/h burns down the gravel connecting road to trails.
Only just got into bikes last year and bought a cheap hardtail, loved the trails soo much i went straight out and bought one of these last year! Love it! Defo been a great bike for letting me progress! Your video is spot on! 👌
@@GoodTrails actually I do like the stock grips altho the ends are becoming a little tattered getting the stumpy in and out of the Forester because the grips are so soft and it's a bit of a squees. Which grips do you prefer? as I will need new ones fairly soon and I can't find anyone that sells the stock grips. Cheers!
Finally, a really thorough review! I'm waiting for the new 2020 model. Specialized is sold out of the 2019's in my size XL. Super excited to get back on the trails!
I enjoyed watching your review and am incredibly impressed with the way that you ride the SJ in bike parks. I ride a 2018 Stumpjumper Expert 29er. Only upgrades have been a pair of Roval Traverse SL wheels (warranty deal) and a OneUp 210mm dropper post because I'm 6'4". Last year I took the bike to Whistler Bike Park twice. The first time in Whistler I rented a Yeti SB150 which rode nice but on the final day in the park I rode my Stumpy out of curiosity. I actually felt far more comfortable on the SJ and was able to hit jumps harder than the SB150. It just felt lighter and far more responsive. I dont ride nearly as well as you do but it's rad to see someone really sending it on this bike. Think I'll hold onto mine just a little bit longer and maybe just apply some suspension upgrades or overhaul the drive train a bit because it's wearing out. Also, the SWOT box is awesome. Some people can poke fun all they want but I love not having to wear anything on my back. My tube, pump, and tools fit inside the bike and I can accommodate a pretty large water bottle. Bottom line is I've been absolutely stoked about this bike from the day that I purchased it. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a one-bike-fits-all for every type of riding. From 8-hour epic adventure pedals to days in the park this bike can handle it all.
I agree with everything you said! Bikes are getting so ridiculously capable. Specialized has done a great job with this one and I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck with it for 2021.
I got the s-works stumpy, loved it as ”standard” but after upgrading to 170 coil fork from ohlins, their new m.2 trail fork and smacked a ttx22 on the back. My god what a bike it became, still just as good for climbing tech, but going down its a beast, even the gnarliest downhill tracks is a breeze now with the slacker HA and more travel in the front! 220 and 200 rotors made a big difference as well Keep shreding dude!
You can change the air shaft in your fox fork for like 100usd, really easy to do iit your self as well, change it to 170 and try it out. but Coil front and rear was just mindblowing, still a playfull bike, but when you get in to the chunk in high speed its ooo stable and just plows thru it!
Got the entry level version of the Stumpy (2020 ST Alloy 29). I really enjoy it! Maybe a bit heavy, but it's fine on any trail I ride at the moment. I'm pretty sure I will upgrade to the expert version once I need something more serious in the future...
Got a 27.5 2019 stumpy (not as high spec as yours) about a month ago, I'm loving it , couldn't be happier, mainly bought it for downhill trails but was so shocked by how well it climbs, the eagle gear is sick
@@GoodTrails never tried a 29er so dont have much to compare it to, obviously with the situation a couple of months ago I wasnt in a position to try out any bikes so I went with what I knew Seems to do pretty good on more technical climbs, and when it doesnt it's most likely faults of my own, still got a lot to improve on!
Great review! I've a 2019 stumpy (same as yours) and I stuck a cane Creek DB IL Air shock on it, and for 36ers, at 160mm. The new rear shock is night and day SOOO much better..plus who doesn't love a fox 36!
Great review. Still stoked on my ‘19 Comp. Would have liked the carbon, but still super stoked on the alloy. Oh also have a Surly Karate Monkey on the way!
Nice review of the stumpy. I've got the 19 expert carbon. I keep flipping the chip. When I go high to low, I'm like...oh yeah, that feels good. Then I get curious about high and flip it back and I'm like, oh yeah, that feels good... also I ride mostly in the trail setting on the rear shock... i just recently flipped it to open for descending rocky sections...way more smooth and faster down, although I heard my chain slap a lot which I didn't here in the trail mode.... anyhow, love the bike and really enjoy watching your videos! Thanks for the fresh content.
I got the SL 2020 ST 27.5 version of this bike, I have an e-bike (hardtail) as well. All I can say is that I love my stumpy so much I use it most of the time and only ever use my e-bike when riding extreme climbs. Stumpy is the best bike I have ever owned.
Coming from the man himself! I am honored! I also hope is was some foreshadowing! I would like to start demo riding some hardtails but this pandemic is really cramping my style!
Great review, I had an issue with he rear hub too, main problem for me was the traverse wheels are quite weak. After a year needed a new wheelset as rear wheel need retruing after every ride, even simple trails. No confidence in hitting gnarlier terrain with them. Spank spike race 33 fitted and they are an awesome upgrade.
Nice review. I have the same model in iridescent blue. I’ve done some upgrades to mine though. I’d highly recommend Magura MT7’s and Fox 36 factory if you want to beef it up a bit. I’m still running the DPS rear shock but that’ll be the next thing to upgrade. I wouldn’t mind some stronger wheels too because I’m 105kg (~230lb) and I’ve broken 3 spokes so far on the rear wheel from sending drops and jumps. Also I think I heard you say 150mm travel front and rear. Correct me if I’m wrong but the 2019/2020 Stumpjumper is 150 front 140 rear.
@@GoodTrails Fair enough. The Fox 34 Rhythm is pretty plush, it was just way too flexible for my body weight. I noticed a huge difference going up to the 36 Factory especially on long gnarly descents. I’ve also upgrade the handlebar to a Renthal Fatbar Carbon, Ergon GA3 grips, Specialized power saddle and downhill casing tyres. I’d like to get the Fox X2 but for now that’ll have to wait. $$
I scored my 2019 stumpie ST on lockdown sale, I got the last Large because some poor guy needed his deposit back. Was meant to be. Nice review man. Love my new whip
I put my flip chip in high the 2md day I got it and its not been in low since. Seems to be the thing to do. Good to know it can do Whistler lol. I think it's a great bike, the DPS shock at the rear can be a bit lacking sometimes but the OE 34's up front are great. Good review, honestly the best I've seen so far. Brilliant bike but then all owners say that dont they
I have a 2000 stumpy orig owner and I'm finally gettin the upgrade after 2 decades.. It's still in great condition. Specialized makes amazing longevity bikes.. I'll make a vid comparing the 2 once it finally comes in.. crazy
I had a 2019 Expert Carbon 29’er and just sold it. It was a great bike! Looking for a short travel trail bike now. Wished I could have kept it and gone with a separate short travel bike...😢
Nice review no doubt, pretty much all that a guy could now about the bike 👌 keep enjoying and making some good videos on those trails/parks. Best regards 🤜🤛
I'm trying to choose between a 2019 S-Works Stumpjumper and 2021 Hei Hei CR. Both are super fun but I really thought the Hei Hei would be much more snappy and climb better, but the Stumpjumper surprised me. Even with more travel and seeming like a bigger burlier bike, it climbed great.
@@GoodTrails yeah it is for sure, bike is in great condition amazing how far front and back shocks have come, I must have only like 2 or so inches of travel in the back shock. 🤣 Happy trails man.
I’m only finding 29s in aluminum. A shop that’s 200 k away has a 2018 stump carbon pro with 27.5s. It’s in the box and they would swap out the SRAM brakes for XTs; not sure if that really matters. Closer in Tucson they have 5 2020 carbon comps 27.5 with the 12 speed set up in the warehouse(two weeks out). Price is about the same(2018 being a few hundred less). Ive been off bikes for five years from a spinal injury, can’t do motocross, but pretty sure I can mt bike. What’s your opinion? That pro has some great parts on it and I don’t think the technology is that much different. Great video, my bud lives in BC, he just drinks crown and Diet Coke, not into our scene..ha
I heard that bikes are pretty hard to get right now! I would recommend the carbon if you could afford it tho! I'm not sure what to make sure of a spinal injury tho! If you think you can ride, go and rent a bike so you don't waste your money if it turns out that you can't ride.
2019 Was the last year of the Horst 4/bar link suspension, before they went to flexi chains stays. How do you think both versions feel different in your opinion?
Great video and good news. I’ve got the carbon comp ST and i was wondering if it’s possible to make it a LT but could’nt find a answer for that. Now i do ;) Looking forward to see what upgrades you’re going for. I’m going for some nice Mavic wheels.
Nice review! I had a ST29 alloy last year and because I liked the SJ platform so much, decided on getting the Downieville edition. I couldn't agree more with your thoughts, great all around bike.
@@GoodTrails It's a limited edition, in between the ST and LT with 140mm Lyrik Select+ in the front and RS 130mm in the back. Comes with Magura brakes, reverb dropper, etc. I absolutely love it!
Awesome review...that is probably my next bike! If you want a fun hardtail, you should check out the Specialized Fuse 29er. I’m having a blast on that thing!
I've been following your stuff for a while man very cool!! I live in Oshawa, ON not too far from Uxbridge trails. Do you have any reccomended spots? Travelling all around Georgian bay this summer would love some ideas of places to go
I would download an app called Trailforks and take a look at that. I don't know your riding style but there is a place in collingwood called 3 stage that is really good. You check out my old video called "the biggest ups and downs in Ontario". Also, Horseshoe Valley and Copeland Forest are awesome. I have a video from Copeland Forest and am hoping to go to Horseshoe soon
I have the Turbo Levo SL, which is this same geo with the tiny Specialized motor. 39 lb. Rides just like he describes (and looks almost identical), except I can climb 1000 m and still feel fresh.
Hello good morning I have been watching a lot of your videos and you are a really good mountain biker !!! So keep it up. And I want to asked you a question I’m looking for my first full suspension bike with specialized but I can’t decide what model of stupmjumper to buy. Alloy , comp alloy or comp carbon. I’m a guy who is currently increasing skill to do bigger jumps on trails but obviously not jumps over 20ft long at least not in short term so can you give me some advise on the models so I have a better idea I see you bought the stumpy comp and based on your review is pretty good . I’ll appreciate your tougths
@@GoodTrails thanks for your reply yes I have the budget to go for carbón have been saving for some time I’m not a guy who can change bike every 2 years so that is why I’m looking to do a good investment at the beginning to continue to grow skills with a long term bike. Thanks again and keep uploading more cool videos.
Really like your videos. I have the same bike...I couldn’t be happier. A question for you, I’ve started training for an enduro race. It will be my first. What do you think of the front fork? I think it’s fine for trail riding but seems out of its depth in the chunky stuff. I’m thinking about upgrading to a lyric. Any suggestions?
Do you have any recommendations on brake pads for more aggressive riding + occasional dh park rides? My stumpy's brakes were not happy with me and started squealing at the dh park. Great videos though man, makes me more confident in the stumpy seeing you hit some crazy stuff.
I've just rode a pretty much stock set-up since I've had the bike. If you have Shimano brakes, you can get ice tech rotors and finned brake pads. But I dont know what you can do for Srams. I would say the sram guide r brakes are the weakest link on my bike
Love the review man! Sick riding. I'm buying a 2020 stumpy 29er and torn between medium and large frame size. I'm 5'10, 31.5-32inch inseam (longer torso than legs). Would you have any insight or advice?
What are your plans for riding this year? My plan to go to Whistler late June got squashed but im hoping that restrictions will be lifted and I can make it out later this summer.
If you had to do it again, would you buy the Carbon Comp stumpy or the Alloy Comp stumpy. Also how do you like the NX Eagle shifting or do you wish you had a different groupset?
Hello, getting the 2020 stumpjumper st 27.5 from my lbs.. any dislikes? I'm in southern California so we got some climbing here.. have read the brakes should be upgraded
The brakes aren't too bad! Other than that I'm pretty sure I mentioned all my thoughts in the review. I guess if you don't like the way Sram brakes feel maybe you'll want to switch!
Nice! I was able to get a good deal on mine too. I'm on the fence about a hardtail. But, I rode Roller Flowster on the Stumpy yesterday and some of those turns are tight!
@@GoodTrails Good. :) I have never been to DV trails, yet. I will lug out the little one hit them later this summer. BTW, her hard tail almost as costly as mine!
First person to say they use it to commute a little ...good to know, because I like to go downtown and will only have the one full sus for a few months.
How is the fox 34 goin? I been follow you and you ride pretty sick and hard I like you need a 36 or a pike in there, I have a old enduro 29 like 2016 and checking out is very close the geometry whit the new stumpy.
I bough the same bike but 2020MY and its so good! My only regret is that i didnt buy one earlier XD. It defiantly climbs really good and is super poppy which makes it so fun.
I'm eyeballing an older Stumpy, a 2012, for $800obo on CL... hoping to get the guy down on the price a little. as a life long BMX rider (and cheap MTB rider in the 2000s) this will be my first real MTB, so I don't want to go spending thousands of dollars... the 2012 seems to have similar specs and geometry to the newer ones.. does anyone have experience with the older ones? seems like $800 is a great price point to break into the full suspension MTB world.. any thoughts?
nice video man!! hows this bike on climbs? im mean not really steep climbs... im planning to buy one, but our local trails requires a bit of climbing. 😊
Hi Dude, just thought I’d ask. I’m trying to get into Mtb and I am looking for a first bike, just wondering what bike you would recommend, possibly what bike you had for your first. Cheers. Also, I’ve seen a bargain used 2015 stumpy, thought that might be good?
My first bike was a 2001 Kona Scab. I'm not really sure where you live or what you ride. But, I would recommend heading in to your bike shop and asking those guys.
This question doesn't have a lot to do with the Stumpy itself, but I'm wondering how the suspension is holding up. I assume you're not that heavy, but under my weight (>100kg/220lbs) I'd be concerned about the stiffness of a 34 and the heat-capability of the DPS. You ride way harder than I do and send way bigger jumps, and I was constantly overheating my old Monarch and I even wish my Lyrik was even stiffer than it is. Can you say something about that? Ever noticed the shock losing damping force on those longer descents or the fork flexing too much in technical terrain?
Nah its not bad. The 34 with the grip 2 is ridiculously good. I can't say the DPS is amazing but it's pretty good. I gets a little slow on long descents but it's not a huge issue. I would like to try a coil one day to compare
@@GoodTrails Nice to hear, thanks for your reply! My girlfriend actually runs the exact same shock/fork on her 150mm bike, but she's light and doesn't push the bike that hard yet. I was very impressed by the Grip damper in the Rythm fork, I probably couldn't tell the difference to a Factory Grip2 in a blind test. I've replaced my old Monarch with a Cane Creek DBair CS which was a day and night difference, absolutely mindblowing. Now I'm waiting for my Inline Coil to arrive, so stoked to try it out, first coil for me. Shouldn't a damper get faster (more heat, thinner oil -> faster?) when it gets hot?
@@GoodTrails hmm. Thanks for the reply. I know a guy lighter than me that was riding one and bottoming out even with high psi (which if course kills the small bump sensitivity). Worth trying the next size/addition of spacers so you can drop the psi and still avoid bottoming out.

@@GoodTrails 2020 Carbon 29" Comp...exactly like yours, even the colour scheme. My 2012 went to a friend's garage and is getting lots of love.
Just got the 2020 version in 27.5 and I love it. Your videos were one of the main reasons I ended up going for it so cheers man!
Thar's awesome dude! You are going to really enjoy the Stumpy!
Do you know if the 27.5 can be converted to 29er?
@@cashmiller2999 Nope, there's not enough space dude
i want to buy one!!! Out of stock at the moment in my LBS. Hopefully soon
I'm not sure where you live but I know they are selling like hot cakes right now! Someone even told me today that they were out of size large at the warehouse in eastern Canada.
Have one in my shop in montreal quebec
I got last one in medium in England well happy with it
Great review - I had exact same rear hub failure with my 2018 carbon expert after 400kms of trail riding.LBS nailed the warranty and restored my confidence in Roval wheels so much that I bought a set for my road bike!
Right on! I heard the DT Swiss hubs they are using as replacements are solid!
Nice! I hope my bike lasts as long as yours! I think it will!
Only just got into bikes last year and bought a cheap hardtail, loved the trails soo much i went straight out and bought one of these last year! Love it! Defo been a great bike for letting me progress! Your video is spot on! 👌
Thats great to hear! Glad you are enjoying bikes!
Great review I bought a 2020 ST alloy Stumpy 29er and I couldn't love it more, switched out the saddle for an Oasis and the peddles for V-Sixty's.
nice! I didn't love the stock grips either... did you change those?
@@GoodTrails actually I do like the stock grips altho the ends are becoming a little tattered getting the stumpy in and out of the Forester because the grips are so soft and it's a bit of a squees. Which grips do you prefer? as I will need new ones fairly soon and I can't find anyone that sells the stock grips. Cheers!
Blew my Hub as well got it warrantied. Definitely great customer service, brand loyalty
Yeah someone at the shop told me they have been seeing a ton of stumpys coming in for hubs! I'm glad they fix them
Finally, a really thorough review! I'm waiting for the new 2020 model. Specialized is sold out of the 2019's in my size XL. Super excited to get back on the trails!
That's awesome! Glad to here you getting back on the trails. I think you are going to really like your new bike!
How tall are you Jimmy? I'm 6'1. I'm not sure what size.
I hear you.. I am still loving my 2018 Stumpy, would only change it for a newer version.
The 2018's are nice too! Maybe wait and see what the 2021s look like?
I got the s-works stumpy, loved it as ”standard” but after upgrading to 170 coil fork from ohlins, their new m.2 trail fork and smacked a ttx22 on the back. My god what a bike it became, still just as good for climbing tech, but going down its a beast, even the gnarliest downhill tracks is a breeze now with the slacker HA and more travel in the front! 220 and 200 rotors made a big difference as well
Keep shreding dude!
Wow what a beast! I would love to try that set-up out west!
You can change the air shaft in your fox fork for like 100usd, really easy to do iit your self as well, change it to 170 and try it out. but Coil front and rear was just mindblowing, still a playfull bike, but when you get in to the chunk in high speed its ooo stable and just plows thru it!
Nice review and video. I bought 2019 stumpy expert carbon and love it. Great all around bike
Agreed! I'm glad you are enjoying yours too. Cheers!
Got the entry level version of the Stumpy (2020 ST Alloy 29). I really enjoy it! Maybe a bit heavy, but it's fine on any trail I ride at the moment. I'm pretty sure I will upgrade to the expert version once I need something more serious in the future...
Thats great! I wonder what they will look like in 2021? That might be the move!
Great video, thanks for showing that east coast chunk! It’s made my decision even harder! keep it up!
East Coast chunk is gnarly! Good luck with your decision
Got a 27.5 2019 stumpy (not as high spec as yours) about a month ago, I'm loving it , couldn't be happier, mainly bought it for downhill trails but was so shocked by how well it climbs, the eagle gear is sick
Yeah the eagle is awesome! I have been climbing all the hills lately! How are the smaller wheels on techy climbs?
@@GoodTrails never tried a 29er so dont have much to compare it to, obviously with the situation a couple of months ago I wasnt in a position to try out any bikes so I went with what I knew
Seems to do pretty good on more technical climbs, and when it doesnt it's most likely faults of my own, still got a lot to improve on!
One year reviews are great ,a true review.
Great video mate
Thanks! I was really surprised to see how many people said this vido helped them with their buying decision!
I have the 2020 S works stumpy 29. This review is so accurate. Its a perfect do-it-all bike. Couldn't imagine riding anything else!!!
Nice! The S-works looks so good
Great review! I've a 2019 stumpy (same as yours) and I stuck a cane Creek DB IL Air shock on it, and for 36ers, at 160mm. The new rear shock is night and day SOOO much better..plus who doesn't love a fox 36!
That sounds pretty awesome! I bet that would be great at Whistler!
Great review. Still stoked on my ‘19 Comp. Would have liked the carbon, but still super stoked on the alloy. Oh also have a Surly Karate Monkey on the way!
Nice! I think I need another bike too
Nice year one review. Specialized was always a top brand for a reason. Good spec.
Thanks! Yeah, I agree. I have been really enjoying it
The spec is not all that good... But Stunpy are amazing bikes with a nice geometry and features
Great video mate, im hopefully picking one up tomorrow and this just sold me
Right on! You are going to love it
Nice review of the stumpy.
That's interesting. I didn't expect that you would hear more chain slap. I will have to try flipping it next time I go to a bike park.
I got the SL 2020 ST 27.5 version of this bike, I have an e-bike (hardtail) as well. All I can say is that I love my stumpy so much I use it most of the time and only ever use my e-bike when riding extreme climbs. Stumpy is the best bike I have ever owned.
Thats rad to hear you are enjoying an ST with the smaller wheels. I would like to try one and see how it compares to my bike
You're the Ultimate Warrior! Great stuff man. I hope that was some foreshadowing on the hardtail!
Coming from the man himself! I am honored! I also hope is was some foreshadowing! I would like to start demo riding some hardtails but this pandemic is really cramping my style!
Great video! I bought one last year and haven’t ridden it like I need to! Will make it a point to hit some parks this year!
Do it! Finally things are starting to open up. I went to the bike park yesterday
Good to know. I have now broken the replacement that they sent me. I'm in the process of having that one replaced.
The only thing I didn't like about my Stumpjumper was the wheels and tires. I got an I9 wheelset with Maxxis tires and it's now the perfect bike!
Just got my brand new stumpy expert. It rides perfectly similar to the impression I got from your channel. Thank you for these great videos 👊😀
No worries. Glad you are enjoying channel. Congrats on the new bike!
Really enjoyed this video. Im gonna sub. Thanks for making my night
Right on! Thank you for subscribing!
Agreed! Forks, brakes and wheels could stand to be upgraded. But, I would do the brakes and wheels before I did the fork.
I have an stumpjumper as well. This bike is good on everything. I am really happy with it. Curiously the hub get broken too.
Your not the first person to tell me your hub broke too! I still love the bike tho!
I scored my 2019 stumpie ST on lockdown sale, I got the last Large because some poor guy needed his deposit back. Was meant to be. Nice review man. Love my new whip
Wow! A lockdown sale? That's crazy. Congrats on the new bike
@@GoodTrails yeah, Corona Virus had us in lockdown at home so a lot of brands launched online sales to keep business going. Cheers
Brilliant bike but then all owners say that dont they
They do say that! But I really do think this bike is brilliant!
Great Review. Unfortunately my Stumpjumper’s rear shock just blew up....I’m feeling the rear shock was blown from the get go...
Mine seems fine. But, I could see how a DPX2 would improve the overall feel of the bike!
I have a 2000 stumpy orig owner and I'm finally gettin the upgrade after 2 decades.. It's still in great condition. Specialized makes amazing longevity bikes.. I'll make a vid comparing the 2 once it finally comes in.. crazy
Nice!! I tried to buy an old stumpy from the 90s recently but got outbid! They were and still are nice bikes!

Thanks my man! I can't wait to get out and do some shredding!
Yup! It climbs nicely and it's very playful! I haven't rode the Kona tho
I own a 1999 Specailized Stumpjumper! Getting it tuned up next week, love the bike.
Thats awesome! So cool that it's still kicking. I hope my bike lasts that long

Great video, thank you. I have the same bike and LOVE it. I can't manual though, LOL.
You can do it! It takes alot of practice tho. I think I might make a how to manual video one day.
@@GoodTrails I will keep practicing.
Now i do ;)
Looking forward to see what upgrades you’re going for. I’m going for some nice Mavic wheels.
Good call on the wheels! I'm leaning towards a new rear hub, and maybe some brakes
Nice review! I had a ST29 alloy last year and because I liked the SJ platform so much, decided on getting the Downieville edition. I couldn't agree more with your thoughts, great all around bike.

Cool I am looking at the fuse! I would prefer 27.5 but they don't make a 27.5 with a high end spec...
I've been following your stuff for a while man very cool!! I live in Oshawa, ON not too far from Uxbridge trails. Do you have any reccomended spots? Travelling all around Georgian bay this summer would love some ideas of places to go

Nice! I'm hoping I can demo riding one of those things soon!
If you have the money i
would go with Carbon. It weighs so much less. The comp is a good value bike with a carbon frame!
@@GoodTrails thanks for your reply yes I have the budget to go for carbón have been saving for some time I’m not a guy who can change bike every 2 years so that is why I’m looking to do a good investment at the beginning to continue to grow skills with a long term bike. Good Trails yes I’m excited, my alloy was ST aswell, if ever I’ll upgrade the suspension later on if ever I wanted to convert to LT...
Yeah, just but the yoke!
I wonder why your channel didnt explode until now.. great content 😄
Thanks! I have been more focus on ranking in search terms. I have seen a big jump since I started doing that!
Did you ever try the SJ in a 27.5 set up? Just saw that size with Ohlins suspension for a good price but not sure if I should snag it or not.
Never tried it!
Thanks for the review. Is there a Speacialized dealer in London, ON?
ToWheels deals specialized I believe!
Thanks for watching! I've had no problems with the 34, the grip2 damper is amazing.
Good Trails, thanks... I respect your opinion. I’m a fairly new rider, I’ll focus on my skills rather than upgrading the bike.
We are about the same size. I ride an S3 (medium) and it fits me perfect!

What is the different between stumpy st..lt and expert carbon...mine is expert carbon 29...sorry old newbie here...btw love yr channel and feedback 👍🏻
I know that the LT has 150mm of travel and I think the ST has 130.

I believe you have to buy a new yoke. I would ask your local Spec dealer
@@GoodTrails thanks man! Keep up the great work.
It would be sick to have the stumpy for traveling and going to bike parks, and using a hardtail for the don valley
My thoughts exactly... I'd like to test ride a few bikes but its a little tricky with the Pandemic. Maybe I can get on an RSD if I ask nicely...
If you had to do it again, would you buy the Carbon Comp stumpy or the Alloy Comp stumpy. Also how do you like the NX Eagle shifting or do you wish you had a different groupset?
I would definitely buy the carbon. I'm not a huge fan of the NX, I would have preferred Shimano.
I own a 2016 stumpy 😊

Hello, getting the 2020 stumpjumper st 27.5 from my lbs.. any dislikes? I'm in southern California so we got some climbing here.. have read the brakes should be upgraded
The brakes aren't too bad! Other than that I'm pretty sure I mentioned all my thoughts in the review. I guess if you don't like the way Sram brakes feel maybe you'll want to switch!
i have also have a 29er, It was on sale! hehe I am afraid to ride my hardtail XC in the city. Good review.

Yea the 29er is great on the road. make sure you have somewhere safe to lock it up...
How is the fox 34 goin? I been follow you and you ride pretty sick and hard I like you need a 36 or a pike in there, I have a old enduro 29 like 2016 and checking out is very close the geometry whit the new stumpy.
The 34 has been great. The grip2 damper is actually amazing. I haven't felt the need for anything bigger. I think the Stumpy is a nicely balanced bike

I havent rode the 2012 but I would try and get newer than that. Old full suspension bikes can be a nightmare to own

@@GoodTrails Thankyou, I will 👍
Nice little review and backstory.
Thanks! I wanted it to be more of a story than just talking about head angles and parts!
Are you running any volume spacers in the shock? I found the SJ to be very linear (not progressive enough stock).
Nothing. I can kind of see what you are saying. I wouldn't mind a little more small bump sensitivity on the rear suspension.
@@GoodTrails hmm. Thanks for the reply. I know a guy lighter than me that was riding one and bottoming out even with high psi (which if course kills the small bump sensitivity). Worth trying the next size/addition of spacers so you can drop the psi and still avoid bottoming out.
I have a 2020 stumpy and im not sure if its short or long travel. I actually didnt know there were these options. Is there a way i can tell? I bought it from a local shop.
Ummm it could be written on sticker on the frame near the seat? Also, you could call the shop and ask. Maybe you could use a measuring tape?
