Ordered this bike 3 months ago and it finally came in. Can't wait to take delivery and shred some trails ! Coming off a hardtail, stoked to see what true mountain biking is lol
Bought an old school hardtail stump jumper hardtail back in the day, xt components excellent downhill. Def upgrading, but I can’t forget where it all started. Great video!!
I bought the same bike, I'm super happy with it. It's crazy how stable and planted it is on the descents but also loves to jump and corner. The climbing/pedaling position is super comfortable, solved my lower back pain just with the stock cockpit. I'm 5' 11.5" (181cm) and i went with the S4. I've done several long xc rides and it's great, I can go all day on it. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't feel like a fast xc bike, it's definitely a trail bike, more slow and steady but super efficient a lot less fatigue than my last 2 27.5 bikes, actually a world of difference. I plan to get an extra set of xc wheels and tires for the long days and keep an enduro set on the stock wheels. The stock tires are great but for more enduro type days I'll be swapping out the front for a Minion DHF or an Assegai when they begin to wear out.
couldn't agree more! i was worried a bit when i saw the 30mm riser bar and how tall you sit up. but that was the exact issue with my 27.5 Enduro, i always felt too far forward and my lower back would get zapped on the climbs. i would have my fingers on the bar to get that couple inches more upright. i'm enjoying the climbs now, the Stumpy has proved itself over and over. i'm happy!!!
Wow... reading you and Shane is like "listening to myself" ... guys I totally agree, even tho I am on the "shorter" side w 5.9" I also went for the S4 and heck of a difference... I am turning 50 in Jan and cannot stop myself to go to the trails 2x a week and go after every jump I find!

This is a great review and into to this Alloy Stumpjumper. I read a young person was dissatisfied with his spring front shock, but that is the case with many entry levels - they compromise on the front shock, but you paid for the step up. I have a 2020 Commencal Meta TR with the upgraded shock, but you must pay at least $500 to get the Ugraded package today. I am considering an upgraded 2022 Meta TR for our overseas Family/visits to Thailand. The Meta TR is the closest ride to the alloy Stumpjumper - but I would take either and have a blast!!!
@@ninja83187 ha!!! i think everyone is expecting it to be at the rear shock like the other models. threw me for a loop when i didn't see it. then i noticed them on the rear chainstay...
I am considering moving on from my Elsworth Moment (it's a 2005 model) to a new Specialized sometime in the Spring of 2024. The trails in my area are not super hard (Eastern Virginia area) but they are challenging enough for me. I thought about the Chisel, but my heavy 61 year old body thinks a Full Suspension would be better. Still on the fence about a Stump jumper of Epic EVO. Looking for a single bike.
I would say Stumpjumper. Epic EVO is an amazing bike but I feel more race / business oriented over the all around character of the Stumpy. I was just talking about this the other day, the Stumpy is ready for anything where other models have a bit more purposed feel.
IT DOES HAVE A FILP CHIP so u know the bolts near the wheels that hold the suspension together there kind of offset and if u move bother skrews to the other side the geometry
Great video!! Thanks a lot!! I just bought this same bike over the weekend and it will be delivered this next Friday!! I’m freaking anxious!! Where is that trial you mentioned? What’s the name again? Keep rocking on man!! Thanks again!
I am waiting for mine I got the green color, and it was the only one I could find in Wisconsin. Its going to be my first full squish bike pretty stoked
I ride an s3 and I’m only 5’0 but it feels great on the trails with my dad the only complaint I have on the regular alloy is the rockshox fork is not the best at small bump sensitivity and the adjustments are very minimal so that probably the first thing I’m gonna upgrade but other than that it’s an amazing beginner trail bike
I bought the same bike about two weeks ago and loved the first ride out of the gate. Just had my ride wrap delivered so I can protect it. I went with clip in SPD pedals for mine and a Zippa bash guard. At this proce, I'm not sure why they don't come with a bash guard?
Had to swap the Purgatory T7 rear for a Maxxis DHR II EXO. The Purgatory is decent for hard pack, but it is real squirmy in loam and wet conditions. The DHR pairs really well with the T7 Butcher. I have that combo on for colder weather, like now. I run the same combo but with softer compound in the Summer-- DHR II 3c/ Butcher T9. Nice review and riding.
thank you Pete! 🙌🏻 i was just telling a buddy today the T7 Purgatory is get’n loose with the recent rains. i was thinking of moving the T7 Butcher front to the rear and getting a T9 Butcher for the front. maybe something else similar to the Butcher for the rear. i’ve been running Maxxis for 7 years now. hard to beat the DHR2!!! 🤙🏻
@@ShaneScrimager The Butcher rolls like a tractor tire but grips everything. On the rear??? it would work in real sloppy conditions, but the sidewall is a bit flexy. I like that in a front tire. Gotta go DHR II in rear. Rode DHF's plenty, but I like the Butcher. Should do a front/rear butcher review. I will tune in.
@@petedog9581 just finished up my enduro bike gone mini DH bike video / review with the Maxxis Assegai front Dissector rear! i’m going to try something Specialized for the Stumpy. i’m going to have to try real hard not to throw a DHR on there 🤣
@@ShaneScrimager The Spec Eliminator may be your next rear, if you want to keep the bike all Spec. The block design looks a lot like the DHR II. I bought 4 DHR II's for $39 apiece... $175 with tax and shipping. I would try the Eliminator, if I wasn't stocked up. I will check out the Maxxis review. Cheers.
I’m hearing about the chain slapping a lot below the chain stay, bottom bracket area causing damage to the frame and paint. Have you noticed this at all?
Not to hijack, but I have this bike in green S3 and do get a (very) little chain slap on sharp landings. Not a deal breaker. By comparison I have the 2019 Stumpy ST with clutch derailleur and no noticeable slap. But, I can push the 2021 so much harder than the ST (which is no slouch) that it's becoming ridiculous fun. Get used to the giggles!
@@rpm2dayg648 right!!! i'm getting a huge slap from the drail extending, or so it sounds. off big stuff i'm getting it toward the rear of the bike. not sure if it's the NX set up or not. don't get it on my GX at all.
Hi there why size is the change guide 26-32 or 32-38 sorry for my question I have same bike I like to purchase change guide. Tank you in advance nice channel
hey yo! i went with the 32-38 to have the option of running a 34 if needed. so far so good but wanted the option. thank you! appreciate the like and subscribe 🙌🏻🎉
What color is this? I ordered mine today and the only two colors available are sage Forest green and a clay brownish color. I went with the sage and forest green.
it is a purple / brown with a light purple'ish logo. wait, i think we could spice that up and say it's a Maroccan clay tone with a hint of lavender in the logo. kidding, it's purple'ish brown. i dig it!
good morning Mr. Tikdo! big bike park jumps, i’d go EVO. i up’d my suspension to 150 up front and higher volume in the rear, i was finding the end of the travel too often. especially when you come up short on the landing.
what’s up Walter! thanks man 🙌🏻 i bounce from 185lbs and 190lbs, 90 in the fork for 20% sag and 190 in the shock for 30% sag. i swapped out the suspension to a Pike up front and Deluxe Ultimate in the rear. i can run 230lbs in the rear giving it an amazing progression and the 35mm up front it what the bike needed. update video soon!!!
@@ShaneScrimager so like a really dark matte purple close to black or a sort of bright ish purple I was looking at them and thinking about it but idk what colour
I just got a Stumpy Comp Alloy in Sage green for a first bike and I love it! Good video, great looking trail too! What bash guard/chain guide is that? Have you need it it on trail yet?
mrp amg v2, and yes! we’ve got some rock overs that you can’t blast you have to roll and it just barely hits every time. everything else that people scrape around here i can hop or jump over. but there’s are a couple steep set ups that i scrape.
If you think the Stumpy is an impressive trail bike you should really try an Norco Optic or Santa Cruz Tallboy. I tried all three and ended up buying the Optic. The Stumpy is a decent bike, but it's not really in the same league as the Optic and Tallboy on downhill trails.
had a great discussion with my buddy Cory who used to work at Santa Cruz, i think the High Tower would be my go to although the Tall Boy is closer to the Stumpy. here's our chat, ua-cam.com/video/eCwBGxkkmWU/v-deo.html. our friend Brad is the Norco rep and i've missed the demo days a couple times. would like to ride the Optic and the Sight for sure!
Hello. I am also considering the purchase of the stumpjumper comp alloy. I am 178cm tall, what size do you recommend based on your experience? thank you very much in advance.
hi Nicola! you are right on the line of an S3 and S4. i would look at the reach, 450 for the S3 and 475 for the S4. if you feel you have a bit smaller reach the S3 will be perfect. longer arms? S4 for sure!!! i'm 5'10" and the S4 is perfect. i rode an S3 and like it but it was just a barely too small.
Great video! Im seriously thinking of getting one of these!.. I was gonna get the S4 until you said you are 5'10.. Im 6'1, should I go for the S5? Thanks
S5 for sure, won’t be too much bike at all. here’s an update / upgrade video on my Stumpy, ua-cam.com/video/dIWLoEMoCQY/v-deo.html - cascade link just arrived. cascade link video soon, smash that subscribe button please and thank you!
comes with tubes in the tires but!, the rims are taped and the tires are tubeless ready (2Bliss). i yanked the tubes out and poured 4oz of Orange front and rear! boom, ready to rock 🙌🏻
i used to always go medium. then without trying it out, i bought a large. the extra wheelbase and reach was the missing link between trying to go fast and going fast!!!
i have the RaceFace Atlas 820's on all my bikes. 30mm rise for the Stumpy, but went to a 20mm rise after replacing the suspension to 150mm. update video soon!
pedal strikes through rocky / rooty climbs. but kind of expected for a trail bike. i don’t lock out at all, i don’t even hit the climb switch. nothing too technical here, a little punchy in spots. i’ve swapped out the suspension and went clipless, took care of a few issues. i’ll have an update / upgrade video soon 🤙🏻
This vídeo make me kinda curious and also regreted about the sizing of my stump comp alloy, i bought the s3 and i have the same height as you, i never tested the s4 the store didnt had that size saddly. i actualy find my bike near the same characteristics as you describe yours, do you tink the s3 to the s4 is a huge of a difference in our height? Thanks again mate!
i rode an S3 Kenevo a couple weeks ago. i had to adjust the seat post and bars, but that was it. had a great day and didn’t notice the sizing. i think we are right on the line of S3 and S4. i race an S4 so i went with the S4 Stumpy.
niiiiiiice. i’ve got a 36 and a 38 (review soon), but the 34 is pretty good. i’ll have a 150mm Pike and 130mm Deluxe Ultimate on it in the next couple weeks. i split the difference and went with the 35mm Rockshox runs. 🤷🏻♂️ overall, i wanted to keep it on the trail side since i have an enduro and downhill bike. same, super stoked and very happy! 🙌🏻
still loving it? about to pull the trigger ? I really want that SLX carbon built but so expensive, this looks like a sweet spot. Little concerned about dumb down suspension setup for alloy
my buddy has the Expert build, lighter for sure. probably will help with long climbs and short bursts. i'm 110% happy and prefer the original rear triangle over the carbon removing the link. i raced an enduro on it last weekend, this bike absolutely blasts on everything i've thrown it down.
Do u think this bike would work well for Trail/XC racing? I’m looking for an everything bike, great for rough trails and hard riding up and down but also fast and agile for xc.
Can you compare this bike to the Specialized Status 160? This will be my first purchase and know nothing about MTB but I definitely need a jack all all trades.
i was looking at the Status. but, the Status is a mullet, or more enduro’ish. i really wanted a fast trail bike, i have a rip’n enduro. but, if in the market for an enduro and a really snappy / quick up to speed / turn and berm destroyer - the Status will fit the bill for sure. i couldn’t find one in stock 🤷🏻♂️ but... the Status is a 160, i have a 150mm pike on order... i think i’d give the Status a run for the money on my Stumpy. it is flat out fast. i hucked it off all the same jumps this weekend, no issues. the Stumpy is an efficient climber too.
@@ShaneScrimager much appreciated mate, I’ll go with the stumpjumper mostly because of the better pedaling and as I’ve read, it’s also much better on jump/landing.
i have an update video in the works. i’ve swapped out my suspension pushing it toward this years EVO. my buddy’s have both purchased current carbon EVO’s. we’ll compare. i’m an aluminum dude, tried - trusted - beat it proof.
hi Ster! day two was exactly that, a day of climbing. i put in 3300ft of ascending only because the stumpy was a great / efficient climber. you may notice a little weight increase but i was coming off an enduro bike. noticeable weight savings for me! i was laughing that whole ride, i finally enjoy long out and backs and climbing!
in the middle mostly. opened it up for the fast rocky rooty stuff. i upgraded to a Rockshox Deluxe Ultimate (30% sag was 230lbs over the DPX 190lbs), now the bike feels more progressive and charges way harder. will do an update vid when fork gets replaced with a Pike.
The amount of fun you're having riding that bike is priceless and precisely why I love riding.
that makes two of us my dude!!!
Unless your riding for cash and trophies, fun should be the primary factor when choosing a bike imo

I am considering an upgraded 2022 Meta TR for our overseas Family/visits to Thailand. The Meta TR is the closest ride to the alloy Stumpjumper - but I would take either and have a blast!!!
absolutely! i did finally swap out the fork and shock. the bike woke up and is amazing. should have the update video posted friday 🤙🏻
That trail at the end looks fun as hell..... :)
the whole trail system there is prime. handful of more flow trails here in Nevada City. definitely a great mountain biking location!
It does flip chip, at the chain stay link.
i just noticed that a day or two after the vid. thank you! flippable just not at the shock. i’ll have to try it. 🙌🏻
I’ve told 3 ppl that lol on video they mention not available I’m like idk why yours wouldn’t …
@@ninja83187 ha!!! i think everyone is expecting it to be at the rear shock like the other models. threw me for a loop when i didn't see it. then i noticed them on the rear chainstay...
When I bought my 2021 alloy comp the shop told me the chip was at the shock. Luckily I knew better from having watched a few videos. Love this bike!
@@divemaster289 i was so confused, removed the shock, looked around. nothing. then, noticed the chainstay a few days later...
She gets the job done.
Also, homie, she does have a flip chip.
Great review, thanks. I was looking for one in green but think your one looks better.
Anyone know the weight of this bike?
I picked up a stumpjumper alloy earlier this year, wish I'd gone for the comp. In the process of upgrading the components
i get it... but your sweet bike sounds like it’s getting to a great bike! 🙌🏻
Thanks for the awesome video! Also, where do you live in California? I live near Pollock Pines and these loom exactly like my trails!
Grass Valley / Nevada City! let me know when yer in town!
Just bought the same one in the same color. Such a fun bike. The color is definitely unique, but it’s growing on me for sure. Enjoy it!
🎊congrats!🎉 same, i’m starting to love the color but i think that’s because the bike is so fast and fun!!!
Me as well! All that was available was the purple color, I really wanted the army green though. It’s not what I wanted but it’s still pretty sick!
IT DOES HAVE A FILP CHIP so u know the bolts near the wheels that hold the suspension together there kind of offset and if u move bother skrews to the other side the geometry
...didn't see that till after the video. cleaning the bike, saw the adjustable pivot mounts, had that duh moment...
I thought the Flip Chips were in the rear swing arm on these, near the rear skewer.
and i completely missed that until the 2nd or 3rd cleaning. hey... what’s this? duh 🙄 🤣
Thanks man. Awesome video and insight ✨
thanks brother! 🤙🏻 update video soon, so impressed with this bike.
Thanks for the video!
1 year update and upgrades here! ua-cam.com/video/dIWLoEMoCQY/v-deo.html
my 2022 stumpy came with a t9 front t7 back
much difference between the two? i’m thinking i’ll replace the front with a t9 when needed.
Great video!! Thanks a lot!! I just bought this same bike over the weekend and it will be delivered this next Friday!! I’m freaking anxious!! Where is that trial you mentioned? What’s the name again? Keep rocking on man!! Thanks again!

woot!!! you're going to love it!
@@ShaneScrimager It's a blast.
The bike does have a flip chip. Its not in the same place as the carbon modle but if u check ur owners manual it will show you how to do it 👍
😐 i didn’t see it till around the 4th 5th time i was cleaning the bike. hmmm, what’s this 🤷🏻♂️
What brand is that stick-on guard on the downtube in front of the bb you have on there?
Lizard Skin frame protection size large!
I ride an s3 and I’m only 5’0 but it feels great on the trails with my dad the only complaint I have on the regular alloy is the rockshox fork is not the best at small bump sensitivity and the adjustments are very minimal so that probably the first thing I’m gonna upgrade but other than that it’s an amazing beginner trail bike
is that the Recon? my girlfriend had one on her Stumpy. an upgrade would definitely wake your bike!
@@ShaneScrimager yes it is the stock recon and I’ve been looking for new forks but I’m only 13 so I can’t make enough money for one
I chuckled at the 780mm reach.
maybe on some custom hog with bars head high! 🤣
I bought the same bike about two weeks ago and loved the first ride out of the gate. Just had my ride wrap delivered so I can protect it. I went with clip in SPD pedals for mine and a Zippa bash guard. At this proce, I'm not sure why they don't come with a bash guard?
right! preference maybe. grips / bars / pedals always get tossed on a new bike.
This color or the artic blue ? 🤔
oooooh! tough call. i'm happy now that i've swapped out the suspension, all black and clay. looking pretty good! update video posting soon.
Cheers.
@@petedog9581 sold!!! i’ll grab it this week, give it a few rips and post the Stumpy re-review. i’ve replaced the suspension, and the bike woke up 💣💥
35mm internal and 2.6" tires for whole enchilada in Moab or will these do just fine?
I’m hearing about the chain slapping a lot below the chain stay, bottom bracket area causing damage to the frame and paint. Have you noticed this at all?
not at all, zero actually. and i’ve had it blasting through some good trails!
@@ShaneScrimager Awesome! I was worried about that.
I went with the sage and forest green.
it is a purple / brown with a light purple'ish logo. wait, i think we could spice that up and say it's a Maroccan clay tone with a hint of lavender in the logo. kidding, it's purple'ish brown. i dig it!
@@ShaneScrimager Now you got me wondering if I should have got that color instead of the sage green...
Thanks for the reply!
@@willchart1 it’s going to shred’tastic green after you ride it!!! congrats on the new bike 🎉
im 511 will the s4 be right for me even doing jumps ? i cant pick between the stump jumper or stump jumper evo there $500 difference
good morning Mr. Tikdo! big bike park jumps, i’d go EVO. i up’d my suspension to 150 up front and higher volume in the rear, i was finding the end of the travel too often. especially when you come up short on the landing.
Where is this trail?
Auburn CA! 🙌🏻 let me know if you have a chance to ride it!
Could you confirm which colour you have there? This doesn't look like the 2021 cast umber/clay, it's more like a grey paint job.
it is the umber/clay. really depends on the light, sometimes it's purple and sometimes dark purple. took me a minute but i really like it.
What psi in the fork and shock. And what is your weight
Thanks for the great video
what’s up Walter! thanks man 🙌🏻 i bounce from 185lbs and 190lbs, 90 in the fork for 20% sag and 190 in the shock for 30% sag. i swapped out the suspension to a Pike up front and Deluxe Ultimate in the rear. i can run 230lbs in the rear giving it an amazing progression and the 35mm up front it what the bike needed. update video soon!!!
What do u think Of the colors
it’s the clay / purple. love it! i saw the green, it’s gloss green and the clay is matte. digging the matte purple and black scheme!
Is that the bike in the purple looking colour online and is it black or purple?
it’s matte purple to describe it best. grew on me, love it now 🙌🏻
@@ShaneScrimager so like a really dark matte purple close to black or a sort of bright ish purple I was looking at them and thinking about it but idk what colour
@@Jay-pl1bj i’d say a little darker than what’s shown on the specialized website.

Hey bro im thinking buy this bike can you tell me her weight? Thx
i haven't got the exact weight but it feels about 30'ish. not much more. way lighter than my enduro.
If you think the Stumpy is an impressive trail bike you should really try an Norco Optic or Santa Cruz Tallboy. I tried all three and ended up buying the Optic. The Stumpy is a decent bike, but it's not really in the same league as the Optic and Tallboy on downhill trails.
had a great discussion with my buddy Cory who used to work at Santa Cruz, i think the High Tower would be my go to although the Tall Boy is closer to the Stumpy. here's our chat, ua-cam.com/video/eCwBGxkkmWU/v-deo.html. our friend Brad is the Norco rep and i've missed the demo days a couple times. would like to ride the Optic and the Sight for sure!
i beefed up the suspension as well, will have an Stumpy upgraded video shortly.
S4 for sure!!! i'm 5'10" and the S4 is perfect. i rode an S3 and like it but it was just a barely too small.
i'd say go with the S3, S4 may feel a little long and slow in the corners
@@ShaneScrimager ok thanks!!
Is your bike color called cast umber? And if so is the specialized logo light pink?
clay umber! yep. and yeah, logo is pink’ish hold on shred’tastic shade of hell yeah
@@ShaneScrimager right on, I couldn't tell if my eyes were tricking me because of the color of the rest of the bike

Yes
comes with tubes in the tires but!, the rims are taped and the tires are tubeless ready (2Bliss). i yanked the tubes out and poured 4oz of Orange front and rear! boom, ready to rock 🙌🏻
@@ShaneScrimager Alright i would think most bikes over 2500$ would have tubless ready
Nice video ?? What color is this??
5'10 also and can never decide between med and large
i used to always go medium. then without trying it out, i bought a large. the extra wheelbase and reach was the missing link between trying to go fast and going fast!!!
What handlebars do you have?
i have the RaceFace Atlas 820's on all my bikes. 30mm rise for the Stumpy, but went to a 20mm rise after replacing the suspension to 150mm. update video soon!
What is climbing like on the bike? do you lockout both shocks?
pedal strikes through rocky / rooty climbs. but kind of expected for a trail bike. i don’t lock out at all, i don’t even hit the climb switch. nothing too technical here, a little punchy in spots. i’ve swapped out the suspension and went clipless, took care of a few issues. i’ll have an update / upgrade video soon 🤙🏻
How much does it weight?
don’t have an exact but feels 32’ish
but, i have friends with the same size carbon with more aggressive tires and i’m on the brakes and rolling faster 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks again mate!
i rode an S3 Kenevo a couple weeks ago. i had to adjust the seat post and bars, but that was it. had a great day and didn’t notice the sizing. i think we are right on the line of S3 and S4. i race an S4 so i went with the S4 Stumpy.

hey Babak! Culvert Trail, Auburn California
I couldn't swing at an Evo at the time of purchase. I might end up with a fox 36 in time. Overall very happy
niiiiiiice. i’ve got a 36 and a 38 (review soon), but the 34 is pretty good. i’ll have a 150mm Pike and 130mm Deluxe Ultimate on it in the next couple weeks. i split the difference and went with the 35mm Rockshox runs. 🤷🏻♂️ overall, i wanted to keep it on the trail side since i have an enduro and downhill bike. same, super stoked and very happy! 🙌🏻
@@ShaneScrimager that's awesome the addiction is real... and expensive
still loving it? about to pull the trigger ? I really want that SLX carbon built but so expensive, this looks like a sweet spot. Little concerned about dumb down suspension setup for alloy
my buddy has the Expert build, lighter for sure. probably will help with long climbs and short bursts. i'm 110% happy and prefer the original rear triangle over the carbon removing the link. i raced an enduro on it last weekend, this bike absolutely blasts on everything i've thrown it down.
Do u think this bike would work well for Trail/XC racing? I’m looking for an everything bike, great for rough trails and hard riding up and down but also fast and agile for xc.
maybe look at the Epic EVO, that would handle almost anything (within reason). the Stumpy is efficient but it would take some work in a XC race.
@@ShaneScrimager I have a pretty tight budget tho, I’m looking for $2,000 or under. I do have a discount at some shops from my team too.
@@michaelvarnum8238 wait and buy the right bike, even if you have to wait a little longer.

S5 for sure! my buddy is 6ft and love's his S5.
@@MRArespb you're going to love it!!! it flat out rips.

i’d say S6! my buddy is 6’0” on an S5.
Hi! Thanks for the nice video. What about pedaling uphill? I'm a xc rider thinking to buy a trail bike.
hi Ster! day two was exactly that, a day of climbing. i put in 3300ft of ascending only because the stumpy was a great / efficient climber. you may notice a little weight increase but i was coming off an enduro bike. noticeable weight savings for me! i was laughing that whole ride, i finally enjoy long out and backs and climbing!
Do you find yourself riding with the rear shock wide open or in the middle trail setting mostly?
in the middle mostly. opened it up for the fast rocky rooty stuff. i upgraded to a Rockshox Deluxe Ultimate (30% sag was 230lbs over the DPX 190lbs), now the bike feels more progressive and charges way harder. will do an update vid when fork gets replaced with a Pike.
