While this video is helpful, part of what the recurring issue for ENFPs is, is that the Ne gathering of information never stops. You get an idea, get motivated to do it because it aligns with your values and you know roughly how to get there, so your first three functions are on board. However, once you try to decide on the specifics (Si), your Ne keeps going and gives you other ideas and completely neglects Si's boundaries and commitment to the idea. This confuses Fi and Te, because you have to reevaluate if it aligns with your value system and plan how to do it all over again. Eventually you lose trust in your Ne because it only gives you hopeful fantasies without any real world progress and give in to unhealthy Si urges erupting from subconsciousness. You become dead inside, and conclude that none of your natural excitement or urges are to be trusted, resulting in a hyper-disciplined, self-denying strategy. Inevitably, you grow tired of this as you crave excitement to feel alive and, without proper awareness in that situation, surrender completely to the urges of Ne and start the whole process over again.
It is hard to tell when both Si and Ne gain unhealthy dominance over one another, so as far as I can tell, all you can do is try to feel when you are becoming increasingly frustrated in life, and which part of you you are neglecting at this very moment.

Thanks Heidi! I really needed this today. For a long time I thought I lacked discipline and that I 'should be able to stick to things just like everyone', but you are right. Without using Ne and Fi to direct myself I was stuck in a loophole for a few years. Best thing I ever did was to accept my ENFP self and that I'm not going to have a one track career or life goals, and that's okay. I will get there in my own time and in my own way! Love to all the ENFPs out there x

Yes I agree that was a huge takeaway. I didn't know I had to satisfy Ne and Fi before letting Te take over with discipline. And I didn't know that the role of Fi was to see if it felt right.

I am having so many lightbulb moments. I just wish my younger self had known all this. Woulda saved me a lot of time trying to be how I thought I 'should' be. Trust me, being the youngest of 8 kids and going to Catholic school for 12 years, my ENFPness was NOT often celebrated nor encouraged. But self understanding at any age is a hell of a gift. "Oh look I'm not weird." Thank you for the clarity.

Its crazy how this message got to me EXACLTY when I needed, I was just yesterday having a panic attack about being burnout and planning to do a strict rotine that I KNEW would make me feel hollow, but still wanting to do it cause of my ENTJ father pressure. Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear that. Try to do a few things a day, literally one to two things to begin with. Have a very flexible routine then add more as you get used to it. I think my mother is a TJ and she doesn't get it, so I decided to not tell her my plans anymore. Hope this helps x

Hehe an infj here it’s so funny and loving that you guys are so positive, talking about Discipline thing we INFJ are so natural at this we set are end goal, make plans to get there and work our ass off to get there sometimes we couldn’t tell if we are doing too much. We know what we want in life and how to get there but we neglect small things we need in our daily basis where an enfps are experts.

I'm currently reading 📚 David Goggins (in case you don't know him he is all about unlocking the human potential trough self discipline rathwr than motivation) book titled CAN'T HURT ME and I want to thank you because of your channel book and bootcamp program now I can read the world better. In the book, he tells his story growing up. He was physically beaten by his dad. And grew to say things like " I'm not going to reward him by letting him see me cry" . As soon as I heard that, I knew he became avoidantly attached.
I've incurred a couple of injuries in my body for going all out after hearing advice from very inspiring people on UA-cam. But, being able to read people's personalities and relationship attachment style had helped me tremendously to understand me. My family and now even authors, etc.
Thank you Heidi!! Now I can see the world and all the info it provides with a grain of salt and trough the lense of an ENFP
David goggings is a navy seal and went through he'll week several times.
My best guess is that he is an ISTJ
So I can learn from him, but I know that when he says he isolates himself, that works for him because his introverted, but for me being around people works best.
I wish they taught what you teach in high school. Everything would make so much more sense!!

It's really good that you keep reinforcing this idea of function integration across the board. I too often think about switching out of one function for another I 'need more'. Will have to think more about this

Whoah Heidi thanks for continuously following the guide of your functions to keep churning out videos like this. I feel like you've been my one true guide in helping me understand & find my way as to how I show up in this world as an ENFP..yesterday I was feeling so low because I kept on comparing myself to a TJ friend I had who has moved so far in their career & I made the choice to kinda follow my own path, but it's still not gotten me to a place where I have managed to set up my life..yesterday I felt like there was something so intrinscly wrong with me...but I woke up today & thought..hmm what if instead of thinking there's something wrong with me, or that my choices are wrong because they don't receive the same reward societally..what if I thought that they were right? That they were what worked for me..I think the fact that as Enfps we get to figure out & start accepting our functions as we start getting older, living in a TJ/Sensor world can feel like there's something seriously wrong that you can never get it right.
I appreciate you. Thankyou so much.

Yes, a lot of types would marvel at being able to read a book and imbibe information and analyse for that long and see that as a discipline of its own. ENFPs and INFPs can achieve so much when really motivated.

As an INFP, I also enjoy gathering, integrating and sharing knowledge, but in the form of electronic mind maps rather than as videos. Others can edit and build on them, something that satisfies the altruist in me. I find myself working hard on these and losing track of time, because the work is intrinsically satisfying. Up through middle age, I was more so a knowledge hoarder. It took a while to figure out that a catch and release strategy for knowledge fishing is more in keeping with who I am.

Just started ENFP Soul Bootcamp which has actually served as a container where more discipline and structure can thrive. Instead of scrolling through UA-cam, or scrolling through Heidi videos looking at all the shiny objects, I'm focused on immediately putting into practice the ones on UA-cam related to Meyers-Briggs Type. I'm new to M-B theory, and must say it blew my mind when I learned that TJ types get an intrinsic reward (dopamine! dopamine!) purely from doing things in an organized way that culture happens to call "discipline". I actually get a similar process dopamine hit as I go along and "discover" what my best process is in the midst of doing things. Refining processes creatively is actually my biggest driver and can apply to many different areas of life, so it feels like I'm hopping around and can't decide which one thing I love the most, but in reality it's discovering the process of mastery most joyous and insightful to me -itself - that connects the dots through it all.

Is it true that ENFP's are cheats? Are they a risky choice when looking for long term commitments? And especially when looking for a partner WITHOUT a long sexual history???
Please help, I really would appreciate some credible, rational answers (no thinking/answering with emotionally-biased side of the brain, but instead the 'rational, BRUTALLY-HONEST side', please). 😕

    INFP Dominant introverted Feeling (Fi)
    Auxiliary extraverted Intuition (Ne)
    Tertiary Sensing (Se or Si)
    Inferior extraverted Thinking (Te)
"People who prefer Introversion use their dominant process/function in their inner world because this is where they are naturally drawn and where they direct and receive energy (reflect and contemplate). Since their dominant process is used in their inner world, we don't see it in action. Rather, we tend to see their auxiliary process since it is this process that they extravert, show the world."
Introverted Feeling (Fi) ISFP/INFP: Seeks harmony of action and thoughts with personal values. May not always articulate those values. Empathetic, sensitive, and idealistic. Keyword: Valuing.
    Ne (extraverted) - brainstorming.
When dominant process is exaggerated - Introverted Feeling: carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, hypersensitive, pompous, feel sorry for themselves

As I was told, long ago: Artists do not get motivated, they become inspired. I used to think I was trying to be disciplined and looking for my motivation to be disciplined. There was none and there never will be, without inspiration. Which can be positive (I will give you a cookie, if you'd only ....) or negative (If you don't get this lobby cleaned up in 5 minutes I will write you all up for what I saw happen) or both (..but, if you do, I'll take you out for coffee!) I feel no inspiration to make a mundane pork chop, so there will be no dinner. What's that? Yes, I do want that orange marmelade ... and, garlic. Lots of garlic. Dinner will be ready in 20 minutes. Give me vinegar and a potato then go away. Like that.

Amaaaaazing perspective. I spoke about discipline yesterday during a wellbeing session I host at work and I asked, "Is hard work the same thing as discipline?"
We shared a lot of opinions etc, but the way you explained it in this video around "lacking direction " really resonated with my soul.
There's no point in working hard to be disciplined if you're not aligned with the results and you don't love the process. 💯
Otherwise, we end up beating ourselves up for not being disciplined when really there's something deeper we need to explore.

Thank you Heidi for this cool video. Totally agree ... As an ENFP, when working on my goals I have so much energy and enthusiasm =) Only more Ni Ti tasks I struggle a lot and procrastinate ..
e.g. : gathering lots of ideas for a new course, and making it fun and interesting: no problem ! But then structuring it and making an assessment for example is very hard (more "logical" / filtering / structured thinking). Sometimes existing methodologies are a solution so I can work in Te mode (e.g. teaching models). I don't have NTJs in my surroundings ^^
Would be open to any advice of other people (teachers)!
    Cheers to all!

I understand what u wanna say but i think the biggest problem, at least for me, is that for the things i'm interested in or think i'm interested in take too much of time to learn those things in order to do them. I'm 25 now and i think i'm in that "information" phase for 4 years now, i really don't have the time to start learning then exploring. So can i somehow bypass that stage? Or to explore through maybe journaling, meditating, visualizing, basically finding in my head what (and why) i'm most interested in and than pursue them?

This is a great question. I think if ENFPs can somehow create content while they are exploring, then others could benefit from this journey and of course we would love that. Art Journaling, vlogging, photography, tutoring in something we are learning about, micro blogging. My ENTP husband says I should write how to guides for each thing I pursue. We’re very good at gathering information. We just need a place to cull it together so that other people can see/ experience it.

You should test everything ! But not with a "i will learn everything to the core" but with a "i'm gonna do an introduction on this topic" and as time pass you'll see that some topics are "arf it's great because i love the learn new things but i'm not really a fan of this thing when we go in depth" and others are "this so interesting i want to learn more and more"
start all simultaneously (you may not not be able to keep up with everything after some time bc everything demands you more time and this is precisely thanks to this that you are going to be forced to make a choice and then it will become clear what you actually like and what you like a little less or not at all 😊
