Somehow when I was a kid, when I heard my mother call me a “ stupid b*tch “, it hurt that she could distance her maternal love for her only child from her momentary angry out burst I didn’t receive it. I did well in school , teachers liked me so in time I realized it wasn’t me, she was totally wrong. I thought I just had an inner strength. Maybe delusional but more functional in life than she was. When moments come up socially when a person sort of puts me in that place again, I have shrunk back for a while. I like learning here how to deal better. Thanks for sharing with us.

Your metaphors are SO powerful. I’ve heard the “these are just behaviors that protected you as a kid, but are now being detrimental to you as an adult” line from therapists a few times & I understand that but it never cut to the core of me like your walking with a little kid metaphor just did.
Seriously, I can’t explain to you how grateful I am for how much you share with us Chase, you’re really out here changing lives. Only you could fit in such life changing knowledge and tools in a 7 minute video, I can’t thank you enough.

Really appreciate what u are sharing, Chase. I've been doing it for a while. It has definitely made a difference! I'm still a work in progress at 67. I'm thinking, for continued progress, this will always be the deal. This is info I've learned some time ago about changing/challenging old beliefs. Get rid of limiting negative beliefs & replace them with positive, unlimited beliefs! Make it habitual. It's been a conscious concentrated practice, but it's worth it. My mind/body is better for it. Again, many thanks, Chase!

Hey Chase. Thankyou for changing the world. I’ve been watching TBP since the beginning - I had just escaped an extremely abusive 26yr marriage to a very dangerous man. From birth every kind of abuse. You (and the guys) inspired me to buy all your books and learn how to use the internet and a computer etc. every day I find a reason to go on and you have given names and logic and science and reasoning to the crazy that has been my 50+ years. My goal is (through learning from you) to one day be able to trust a human again. I think your insight and research is the antidote to my C-ptsd, agoraphobia, flashbacks, seizures, blah blah blah. I feel a little more EMPOWERED (y’know those 2mm shifts) every time I listen to you. (And the guys)
    Thankyou with all my heart

I've thought a lot about envisioning my younger self and saying the awful things I feel about myself. I'm always unable to. She doesn't deserve it. It's us. We. Me. I'm just so sorry and so thankful to her. To me. And to you, for the reminder. Thank you. Altogether now

    • @MayimHastings
      @MayimHastings 2 роки тому +1

That’s a very healthy way of thinking! If we wouldn’t say it to our younger selves, why would we say it to ourselves now? Whenever I’ve been in a dark place, I always ask myself what my future self would tell me, or what I would say to someone else going through the same thing. Being empathetic to oneself doesn’t come naturally, does it? Anyway, sorry for my rambling! Hope you have a lovely Thursday 💚🙏

@rynneivarsson751 - What do you think? Write down a limiting belief on paper, cut out that part of paper with that writing, and carefully burn it (in a way nothing else catches fire). This way you don't keep advertising it to yourself, and perhaps find reasons justifying the limiting belief. The limiting belief was exposed and destroyed, and your mind can dismiss it better as GONE.

When I was a kid I was not just confident, but certain of myself. Fearless and unself-conscious. I was blessed with stability at home. I assumed success. And what do you know? I excelled.
Limiting beliefs didn't limit me until I was an adult. And they were others’ beliefs that I internalized. Then, they (limiting beliefs) eclipsed and occluded ME. All my goodness, skills, and abilities - "good" things both innate and acquired don't seem to count. Fear is always in my way.
What can we do to bypass words and reason? Can we get back to child-like self-certainty?

This is excellent advice and information, but for someone suffering from suicidal depression, it’s only going to exacerbate said severe depression. It doesn’t matter how much you’re able to intellectually realize your thinking is delusional, the severely depressed brain is wired to be drawn to anything that supports and affirms their feelings of total self-hatred and their desire to leave the world. “I’m not good enough” written everywhere, for a suicidally depressed person, couldn’t possibly be more dangerous. It sticks in the brain and reinforces the repetition that is already in full swing.
I understand and really appreciate the brilliant simplicity behind this tactic (for lack of a better word), but I think it works best for people who have had some kind of foundation growing up, no matter how shaky it may have been, even for those who have struggled with confidence and perhaps lack of much outside support during the course of their lives. But there must be some form of foundation to exist. I can’t imagine how anyone with even a shaky self-image could endure negative affirmations surrounding them, no matter how cognizant they are of the strategies behind it.
Mr. Hughes has a very lucid and apparent inner confidence that radiates from him, but as he said, he still questions himself constantly. But that innate confidence is still there, as he also said. I have no idea what his upbringing was, but I’m guessing that at least one adult figure did something very right for him. He was obviously deeply cared for, no matter how many difficulties he may have had to face throughout his life. This makes all the difference in the world.
I would argue that this advice for someone severely depressed is potentially disastrous. It, as I said, just further affirms and exacerbates the already inherent and consistent film loop going on in the person’s mind.
I just point this out because it frightens me to think of someone in an incredibly vulnerable state such as suicidal ideation who believes they can succeed with this advice (whether because they may be in a manic state and feel invincible, or are just in a suicidal state and too vulnerable to think clearly). Whatever the case may be, it only serves to augment their self-hatred, which is more than enough for a suicidally depressed person. Just something I wanted to point out.

Top video, thank you for sharing your insight.
I’m working through your Ellipsis Manual and flipping through The Chimp Paradox at the same time. Very complimentary books. 👍👍👍

I have massive confidence with people and selling, people like friendly and genuine interest and I really don’t give a shit what people think of me. but, zero self efficacy I don’t have the believe I can finish what I started☹️
