Years ago at church, in a discussion in a women’s group and after listening a while to all the usual comments on discouraging kids from drugs and alcohol my friend stood up and said “If you try to teach your kids that Everything about drugs is ‘bad’-if they try drugs they’re going to realize quickly that you don’t know what you’re talking about”. As these women started dragging their jaws off the floor, and with a couple sketchy looks her way, she said “I’m not gonna lie-drugs are fun! and they can feel good! You have to teach your kids the difference between fun or pleasure, and happiness”! I certainly never forgot it!

1) Cause Blindness - I recall many adults saying to me as a child "I wish I could play like you", piano. Eventually I popped off w/ "want to spend 4-5 hrs a day in practice, want to miss 100% of every film, tv show.... even formal education that others view as a right while you sit in isolation and practice... It was then my mom reached over to smack me saying "Do Not Ever Speak Disrespectfully to Adults". My view was "well tell those adults to stop being ignorant".
That was a brilliant answer, too bad the adults weren't mature and wise enough to see it... I used to be honest as a child and it didn't go well so I learned how to keep my mouth shut. I am now retraining myself to speak my mind (but in a more respectful way).
Right on brother. Same here. I grew up playing music and heard that crap all my life and sometimes I say bit and sometimes I don’t…. It meaning, “you could do it. You’re just lazy.”
Oh my goodness. As I watched this it suddenly occurred to me that warm Chocolate pudding is one of my greatest pleasures but it would sabotage my happiness of losing those 20 pounds that I hate. Pleasure is not happiness! Just like you said! 🎉
I couldn't agree more, Spidey. Words cannot even describe how valuable this information is to me. ❤ Thank you, Chase. 🤗 I have gained so much from your lessons.
I know this guy! Not personally....but cool! Two channels that I've now left lengthy, probably incoherent (and most definitely nutty) comments on! It's always cool to see the people I like liking each other! Cuz I'm the center of my universe and all must be in harmony at all times! 😂😂😂
@@alisonhilll4317 What!? I don't actually need a reply. This is probably a bot anyway. I just wanted to call out how ridiculous, inappropriate, and just totally out place this statement is.
What I learned about brain chemicals when studying ADHD, depression, & addiction. Pleasure comes from immediate things, what dopamine does. Happiness comes from things that are not immediate but long term - what serotonin does. And when we do too many things for pleasure, it can have a negative effect on our brains.
Attributing pleasure and happiness solely to monoamines is a huge oversimplification. It's an attractive idea to believe that we can just use a little bit of chemistry to understand and change ourselves, but that principle has made american psychiatry a joke. The brain knows its baseline and failing to integrate any psychological intervention will ultimately lead to a medicated patient feeling the same or worse than they did before treatment. ADHD can't be treated without rewarding discipline. Depression can't be treated without changing one's environment. Addiction can't be treated without both rewarding discipline and changing one's environment. Sure, meds might help with these, but ADHD meds without changes just make executive function worse, antidepressants without changes just make you comfortable in a bad environment, and medicating addiction without changes just leaves you with an itch that can't be scratched anymore. These three conditions are all great examples of exactly how behavioral health treatment in this country has failed because ADHD is mostly biopsychological, depression is mostly psychosocial, and addiction is mostly biopsychosocial, yet the treatment approach for all of them is too heavily reliant on physiology. Go deep enough into psychopharmacology and you'll see that monoamines are today's equivalent of the four humours.
It was haphazard, but we became a "hardcore Montessori" family where we didn't have a tv and my children grew up without toys made of plastic, anything primary colored, or printed with cartoon characters. The AMI Montessori curriculum defines success by altruistic and compassionate living. My children are teenagers now and attend public school. The long term result of this pedagogical upbringing does not produce smarter teenagers with better gpa's. It does produce happier teenagers who turn into happier adults. Redefining myself as a parent who focused on raising kind, self-assured, happy humans was the best decision I've ever made.
Thanks for your comment. I've never heard of this before but it sounds very effective. You kept them from marketing. They must likely make better choices.
Chase, you are one of my new favorite people and I hope to meet you one day. You gained instant credibility with me when you named Edward Bernays in a previous conversation. You are the ONLY person I have heard mention his name, despite Bernays essentially creating/founding propaganda and its alleged benevolent cousin, advertising. I have been screaming at the top of my lungs for years and have been uniformly met with blank stares. I pray more people are waking up. Thank you.
I am a portrait artist and sculptor. I have been working on my art with discipline since I decided to become an artist professionally. That was at 23, although I was born an artist, until 60 years old. I painted every day during those years even if it was only 5 minutes. I have confidence in what are my talents and what can I do. Sometimes with my friends I came across as very confident related with my art and people, my male friends don’t like it. A woman that gives the vibes of confidence are not socially accepted or welcoming still. I don’t think about it myself but it’s all the work that I have done that gives me that confidence. Besides this gives me happiness.
Everyone likes actually confident people. No one likes arrogance or smugness. If you have been getting a bad reaction, maybe the problem isn't with those other people.
Nope. Mariam is right . People have been outright angry with me for holding my head up when they thought I ought to be groveling in low self-esteem. This alone bothers some people.
The reason that males and females act the way they do? Is old based mainly on finding a mate. But once that has been found it becomes much easier for males to accept women on their merits when my wife was alive I wasn't looking for a mate because of that I tended to give credit where credit was due. And women do much the same thing. Just on the other side of the equation
However we are thinking beings. Because of this we can reason and makeup four are instinctive programming. The men that you were talking about are few in this day and age and live in the first world. Yes in the third world and even the second you find this kind of behavior but if you live in the first world like Japan United States Europe you're very seldom run into this. And if you do often then you're probably very arrogant or at least come off that way. I would look at how you react with people. Especially members of the opposite sex. If you are a feminist then you are a sexist just like if you are the chauvinist then you are sexist. It's that simple. Nobody appreciates being shit upon.
Most men who were raised in the first world the West don't think the way you think. I would say you're probably acting arrogant nobody likes arrogance remember if you are a feminist you are a sexist. Just like if you are a chauvinist you are a sexist. I would look at that? Before you paint half the world one way or the other.
Omg! There is Hope for me to overcome the Trauma Ive lived through, stop smoking, and resolve, or at least learn how to deal with the grief of losing my Husband, and my baby. It gives me actual hope for sleeping normally again, directing my mind, through this information, to where I truly want my life to go! On to other resear h, and videos Chase has to offer!
I would say contentment. The Apostle Paul said no matter what had happened in his life, he had learned to be content. We want everything now. Life is a continuum of learning. We learn contentment throughout our life's experiences. There is no one size fits all. Though I may glean a few things from others, I have to experience life for myself.
This is so great! More young(er) people need to understand this. I stopped these things when I reached my 50’s after my husband died unexpectedly and my mother died 10 days later. It took a couple of years to come to these realizations(after the death shocks wore down some). I downsized my life and left the toxic people behind and have never been happier with myself.
Chase, thank you. I physically opened the doors to my new small business (a plant store) over the weekend after working on it for months. Never thought I would ever get to open the door. But I did and it went great. I am a huge BP fan with a beloved mug - so much has stuck with me and your videos like this are some of the things that helped me get healthy, quit smoking, relentlessly work toward my goals and start this damn business. It is just the very beginning for me and my little store but I feel like I have leveled up - so thank you in case you ever see this. You have helped me tremendously and I will always be grateful to you and BP from the bottom of my heart! ❤️ Anna
I consider myself a part-time wordsmith, so your innate ability to turn a phrase keeps me glued to these insights. AND makes them accessible and memorable. Continued gratitude ...
Brilliant concepts: 1. Cause Blindness (we keep pursuing symptoms, or outcomes, without changing and dealing with the "root causes"). 2. Pleasure vs Happiness. I really like your content. No bullshit. Real life applications. Straight forward. Thank you for putting up these great contents. So when will you host summer camps for children? I would love to send my niece/nephew to your personal growth boot camps! ;-)
Thank you Chase. You can’t change physiology with psychology. I’m a reasonably intelligent person why hasn’t this occurred to me? Whenever I quit sugar I know that it’s 30 days, and it’s over physically. Same with coffee. A psychologist couldn’t do that no matter how many hours. The happiness part I’m very focused on-I love happiness, pleasure is so momentary. Happiness from true contentment is incredible, no one can take it away. But the other things that you said were new to me in the way you said and explained them. It was simply said. Easy to take a phrase and really ponder it on a walk. Thank you, I’m going to download your app. I follow a handful of people that really add value to my life, you are definitely one of them.
Of course you can change physiology with psychology. If teeth extraction and major operations under hypnosis and without anaesthesia isn't just that I don't know what is. And that's just one example. Placebo in it's many forms is another. But the list goes on... so please take much of what has been said with a pinch of salt
This is a great video. Thanks for putting into words what i have felt all my life. My daughter called me a 'freak' once ( not as an insult ) because I have never bought into consumerism or 'social norms' such as drugs or alcohol. I never follow fashion or 'product trend' ( eg, update phones) For that I have often been socially ostracised or mocked. I can live with that.
Juxtaposed with the idea I never wish to find out what you were responsible for during deployments. One of the greatest lies the devil ever convinced us of is that murder and killing are different. If force leads to momentum, if violence begets violence....then the only correct choice is to refuse.
You are my favorite guy at this kind of thing, because the way you explain people is always very clear and precise, easy to understand. I appreciate you.
Jealousy is a direct result of these two lies. Wanting someone else's lifestyle for instant pleasure without knowing or caring how they achieved it. Whenever the truth of the actual cause (like hard work) starts to emerge, they make up stories to substantiate your "unworthiness." Yes, I'ved lived in this nest of vipers most of my life.
I agree…. exactly why I do not spend time listening to those that sit and recycle the same dead and pointless information. I appreciate you because you speak with truth not looking to conform just to spew old outdated lies. I weed out the ignorant and pointless and refuse to listen to many due to these reasons. ❤Stay Blessed 🥰💪🏽😇
3:38 This part about ‘confidence’ reminds me of what Sadhguru says, that means EXACTLY what Chase says: “We do not need belief systems - we need clarity. Belief systems give you confidence without clarity, which is a disastrous process.” - and - “Stop believing and start seeking.” - and - “Beliefs are confidence without clarity.” (he says this in the context of knowing from experience, vs believing).
Just found you here Chase from TBP. The pleasure/happiness point hits home after being prescribed gabapentin for a severe back injury. This is a hugely prescribed drug. After 2 weeks using it I started shopping and playing the lottery like crazy, something I’ve never done before AT ALL. After correlating the timing, I stopped using it and asked my doctor if this was a crazy side effect and he said it could be because it stimulates the pleasure center of the brain. I did feel momentary pleasure shopping and gambling, but the useless crap and wasted money made me UNHAPPY. I wonder what the fallout from this common pain med is on society as a whole. Great video sir!
I love this. I think I figured this out a year & a half ago. But I could never put it into words this well. I had several epiphanies & I changed my life without much effort at all. I lost over 70 pounds & I used to worry a lot. Now, I'm a pretty happy guy. Not perfect, but improving daily.
Why Did I see this now, and not two years ago when you started your channel?❤ I am so grateful in this NOW moment to be a part of your tribe! 😢😅😊. Thank you Mr. Huges
It has long been my experience that if I smile, I immediately begin to feel better. This action works for many people. While I see the point of the video, I also see that applying symptoms can help me achieve a particular goal. This was also how I learned to calm down when speaking to a crowd. I don't imagine everyone in their underwear, I tell myself I shouldn't be afraid of them, they should be afraid of me. That works, for me anyway.
Thanks Chase ! This is the scientific explanation that resonates with what my father taught us : true happiness induced by self-achievement, moral conduct, consideration before action then action (very important !), accepting the hard work that goes with the option you chose, choice of environment and perseverance in preserving healthy and sincere relationships with significant people in your life.
Mr. Hughes - the video I probably most wanted you to make! 💛 I see this already - I have seen this for years - but it's reached a crescendo I never knew possible, until I found your other videos! It's your whole body of work that's explained so much to me - I have a feeling this will knit that together. With deepest gratitude, thank You! The truth shall set [us] free.
I have only been following you for a short time - I am moved with compassion by your contributions to all mankind - I thank you sincerely. I send your material like this to all my networks. If there is anything else I can do to forward this message besides learning, living, and sharing it please let me know. Big hugs to you and yours. Creating a better world one by one!
Ok, as daft as this may sound it may have been fate that lead me here to view F. A. T. E. I have been a smoker for years and I need to give up. I'm going to start studying your videos to help myself. Thank you very much indeed for sharing.
Yay!! Thank you for posting more videos on here lately!! I’ve been just finding obscure interviews from years ago since I’ve watched everything recent lol
I was able thirty years ago to stop Drugs and Alcohol with fear. It was this „no mistake is possible anymore, if you fail you die in pain“ wich gave me the needed strength to focus. That was my part. From outside I was very lucky, not to be at the wrong time at the wrong place.
2) SCORE! I will retain my hillbilly family who always seek to live with less. Sure, a sliding slope perhaps, but when was the last time you spent DAYS at a house or on a trail with over 73 cousins? I was there 2 weeks ago. A glass of buttermilk with raw onion and cornbread is better than any Michelin star rest. I know how to use outdoor "facilities" and at this point, prefer it. I know what it is like to haul water into the house. I can cook on a wood stove. I was expected to pursue God's plan for my life an outgrowth of "you are very smart, you can devour books, you need to go to uni, get a PhD and a great job" but I found was that my quiet grandparents who could barely sign their names were no less happy or intelligent than myself. Perhaps I should start some sort of "Hillbilly Experience" excursions. Oh, that's JD Vance's thing.
@@Xianne027 I thought that the idea of outhouses and no hot water, cooking on stove powered by coal or wood may turn away most everyone. We live with no internet in the home & spotty cell reception. We drive pick up trucks w/ no gps. Our medicine most often is a clear tonic in mason jars. Most all day we check traps and fish in order to feed the family. Many nights we go to bed having eaten only corn bread & raw onion in a glass of buttermilk *in Europe buttermilk is called Swedish milk*. We keep our own chickens mostly for eggs - given the price of eggs now that may sound like a better idea. Just know we eat bear, goat, deer(we know most consider that high class), rabbit, wild boar which is tough and gross. I get confused with the goal of wanting and expecting “happiness” . My parents set an expectation of learning contentment. Happiness seems transitory. Contentment I can carry most of the time.
If one listens and learns we can benefit from your education and experience. Thank you for your videos! You have one of the brightest minds in our country with so much wisdom to share. I am praying you will be completely healed. May God bless you and your family during this struggle!
You do realize that your statment was designed to first place your intelligence above Chase's leading the reader to believe that you are qualified to be a judge in the matter. Neither you or any other God fearing person is smart enough to really understand this because God did and dose everything.
Great video Chase, segments from your excellent courses!! Everyone should do them, do the training and put it into practice asap. Hours of practice and dedication, curiosity, simplicity, continuing desire for education and enjoying what they do. Thanks Chase.
Another very often unseen cause, or ignored cause, is childhood experiences affecting us for the rest of our lives - addictions, depression, etc etc. We blame people for their bad “choices” - but they are the best/only choices available to the person at the time. I hope parenting (or childhood development) is taken more seriously by everyone; and all people are allowed to flourish and be the best they can be.
@@seasmom Evidence please. And even if you are correct, that doesn’t nullify actual childhood traumas. Childhood trauma is real and should be taken seriously.

Allowing things on the outside of your inner self to control you is the worst form of slavery, and is self inflicted when you’re an adult, no matter what happened in the past (which are memories colored by emotion and change every time they’re thought about therefore are not reality), or what is happening in your environment in the present (present is the only reality but can be colored by perception), or what happens in the future (fantasy). As someone who has invested a lot of time and money in various psychological packages to change behaviour, I am absolutely mindblown by this, I feel like I've just found the key. Amazing stuff!
Fabulous lesson, Chase. We have lost our moral compass and exchanged it for materialism and carnal desires. Too many of our people live in the fantasy world of movies and video games. They expect instant gratification. They are disconnected from the real world and hard work. Food comes from grocery stores, not from farms and hard labor. Schools did away with grades and everyone gets a participation medal in sports. Too many people do not attend church where time tested values are taught.
1, cause blindness - concentrating on a result so much you can't see what caused it 2, pleasure/happiness - not seeing the difference between short term pleasure and long -term happiness Still worth watching.
I just saw this video for the first time. Thank you, Chase, for your honesty and openness. I appreciate your insight and your skills. I appreciate you and I'm happy to hear that your health is better.
Not sure how you popped up in my feed randomly today but glad you did! I was so excited I literally took notes as you talked. I love when "intuitive" stuff like this gets broken down into core, immutable chunks that are actionable. Will check out this F.A.T.E. model next.
I figured this out years ago when I was young. I didn’t think of it in terms of symptoms and behavior. You definitely explained this in a way that I could not. I understood the concept in my mind but could not put those thoughts correctly in to words. When I tried to tell friends that they were wasting their money on self help books, I could not convey the message that you have. I will definitely save your Video and share with others. Great message.
I thought about this when I had (?) an eating disorder - bulimia and later anorexia - and how people focus on the throwing up, the binge eating or starving or the being very skinny (which isn't always the case, especially with bulimia) even though the underlying cause, in my experience, for the behaviors and the effects of those behaviors, is an extreme desire for control, for being in control of SOMETHING because you feel powerless and very much like you aren't in control of ANYTHING. Your body, your routines (eating disorders require lots of planning and organizing), and how disciplined you can force yourself to be become the one thing in your life you feel you have a chance at being in control of. Yes, the being extremely skinny and malnourished and fainting or how the stomach acid hurts your teeth and throat are horrible, but they're not the cause and if you treat the symptoms without treating the cause, in my experience, you just replace the old symptoms with something new but the underlying cause is still there. May be you develop an addiction or obsessively do sports or you become a perfectionist workaholic. You find substitutes for the symptoms but the cause is still the same, still untreated, but you can say you don't suffer from an eating disorder anymore and people will think you're fine now, especially if the new symptoms are something society typically finds admirable like being a workaholic or being obsessed with sports. (possible I completely misunderstood the point 👀)
You got it perfectly right. This resonates with my experience with an eating disorder (e.d.) too. People around me focusing on the external symptoms rather than the cause. Symptoms later changing from unacceptable (e.d) to accepted (in my case high achievements academically), so the cause was never prioritized and addressed, until it led to burn out. Not even then did professional psychiatrists focus on the cause, but focused on the symptoms (me not working) and saw the goal as getting me back to work, rather than helping me deal with the root cause. It's sad how the whole "health care" system runs on managing symptoms, to keep people dependent on drugs and services, rather than healing the wound and prevent disease. That realisation made me go to find my own answers. This problem, symptoms vs cause, sure is prevalent no matter what area of society one investigate. Be well and take care, wishing you all the best focusing on the cause.
@@michaeljohnscott7989 Usually the cause tends be something like trauma in childhood, and the symptoms are a way to stop feeling and thinking about the problem or events that cause the fear/nervousness/etc.). Trauma causes all kinds of problems, and people use alcohol, drugs, sex, and all sorts of ways to avoid their pain. Even physical pain. So its different for everyone, The Cause.
Cause blindness immediately made me think of Democrat lawmakers and voters. I lived in a very blue state, California for over 30 years. The lawmakers and biggest voting population has cause blindness! I also refer to it as being micro thinkers. They never look from 35,000 feet to find the root cause of a problem and it's effects. They look at issues at grass blade level. You see the effects of that every day in the bluest cities and states. Homelessness, illegal migration, sending billions to Ukraine, crime, cost of living and the list goes on and on. They never solve a problem, they just cause more problems. They can't see it though, which is so scary and devastating.
It seems that allowing Russia to annex Crimea a few years ago made it easy for Russia to think that they could invade Ukraine and take it all. But the Ukrainians prepared for that possibility (after they lost Crimea) and fought back. This gave NATO countries (including the USA) the ability to consider that they could prevent Russia from deciding to take back the Balkan countries next and perhaps Finland, etc. So the billions that are being spent to help Ukraine are saving trillions that would have had to be spent stopping Russian expansion into Europe if they took Ukraine. Talking points about how expensive it is to back Ukraine are coming straight from Russian propaganda. Russian intelligence agencies are paying senators, representatives, justices, news agencies, and politicians to divide America regarding its commitment to protecting Ukraine. Protecting Ukraine is in the best interests of all anti-authoritarian modes of government.
Ironically, by suggesting this is exclusive to Democrats, you're displaying cause blindness of your own. I'm not on either team BTW, nor am I American, so no comment on your red/blue preference, just pointing out you may miss the opportunity to catch it in yourself, if you take a position of cause blindness being symptomatic of being Democrat.
Like when Nancy Reagan said, "Just Say No?" Oh wait...she was Republican. You mean, "Pick yourself up by the bootstraps?" Shoot, also Republican. You mean " We will arrest anyone going to another state for an abortion?" Nope. How about banning books? No background checks for guns? Re-electing a felon so he can fix the economy? Hmmm. I guess Cause Blindness knows NO political party!
Thank you so much Chase for sharing this. I love how I’m being guided to channels like yours, in my journey to self growth and awareness. It’s exciting to see others be helped as well. Sending much ✌️❤️ to everyone.
I not only want to encourage you in that what you're saying here's absolute truth, I've been thinking this and sensing this about society and trying to say this to people for many years now so I'm so glad you're here saying this to people in such a clearing concise way, thank you.
Another GREAT video! I'm taking a course with Marie Forleo right now and I can't WAIT to share this with her and the class! Thank you, Chase! In my opinion, your teachings are some of the most valuable content on the web. You and Russel Brand. :-)
This is gold. Came across some of this before, took me ages to sift through noise. This is concise, together and in a sensible order. Thank you. Going to binge on the rest of your content, hopefully not falling into another dopamine cycle... :)
Yes yes yes! I am so glad you’re talking about this. I’m so happy to know I’m not the only one seeing that this is a huge problem in our society today.
Spot on, Chase! Very well said. Pursuing what one wants beyond what is needed, before achieving what is needed, is a fool's errand. Chasing fantasies in pursuit of happiness is exactly how folks (and nations) become drowned in debt. All the skids heading toward that "in debt" direction are meticulously greased by advertising barrages in our commercial society. There's no happiness there no matter what one "gets". Many slip into drug addiction (the ultimate fake happiness) before they can ever learn to spread their creative wings. What a waste of human potential. I suspect that the advertisers and creditors really don't care or even expect that credit purchases will somehow satisfy the buyer since, after all, it satisfies THEM and their clients. Perhaps that's why there is so much homelessness found in wealthy and commercially affluent societies.
Same concept as psychiatry being the only profession to “guess” at an appropriate prescription instead of understanding why the symptoms exist and treating accordingly… huge respect for you, Chase!
The problem people run into is they can't afford to take care of their Mental Health Care long-term, and drugs are cheaper. Get yourself institutionalized or commit a crime, and you can get free therapy. If you're lucky, your employer might pay for some of it. The fact is people in this country just don't give a crap about Mental Health, and this is one of the countries that needs it the most. This is one of the reasons why having a very open and talkative family is essential for good mental health.
Great insights! It is also important to stress that even happiness is not a goal in itself, but merely a byproduct. You cannot strive to become happy. It is a byproduct of having sense of meaning and fulfillment in your life, feeling grateful for the things you have, caring and having a responsibility over others. Having others depend on you. Making other's lives better and so making your own better.
For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. Ephesians 6:12 Exceptional video. Thank you. I included the Bible verse because people often choose to address the symptoms (things that people do) and not the underlying causes (evil). Your discussion of pleasure and happiness is right on.
That’s irrational, and just story telling, no actual reality or help is produced. The Bible invents causes, that’s why it fails for thousands of years, while rational thought solves actual problem. Religion is a destructive force, it softens brains, and creates people who don’t think with reason. The book is filled with terrible ethics, bad science, and bad history. Why would anyone plug their brains with such nonsense.
Thank you ... Was taught these lessons years ago, tried to pass it on to others ,but sadly, few could or would listen. God bless...I have to be careful that one of my "symptoms" isn't trying to convince somebody and being disappointed if it doesn't happen....
On "confidence". One must be able to discern the difference between confidence and the impression of confidence. Additionally, one must be able to discern the extent to which the subject under observation is intrinsically justifiably confident. In all cases, without exception, that I have observed and encountered the subject has fallen into both categories. Their confidence is both unjustifiable and inauthentic.
Thanks again Chase! More important information everyone needs to know. There's too much to say here, but this is connecting a lot of dots around trauma recovery and the journey of self improvement. Keep it coming! I love the critical thinking your videos inspire.
Super-interesting. I quit smoking cold turkey but mentally craved it for almost 3 years afterward--meaning the whole ritual aspect of smoking. I still don't smoke and it's much easier now not to, but what was really surprising was how the associated psychological side effects morphed into almost physical ones. Don't know if that makes sense. Anyway, very interesting, Chase--fascinating topic.
I actually talked to my kids about this a few years ago. "Having fun" is not the same as "being happy." Good things and bad things happen in life, but you can choose to be happy, regardless of what happens.
That is the biggest load of BS I've ever heard. You clearly don't know anything about psychology, and that there are a lot of people who are setup to be unhappy. When everything in their life is going great, they're still sad. Everyday is a constant struggle to just be okay. What you should do instead of assuming everyone is just like you, is be thankful you are not like them.

I agree mostly, with the person who says we can choose to be happy in life. There is a book that has helped me a lot, "A Guide to Rational Living." Albert Ellis, Robert Harper, 1961. Thinking Yourself Out of Emotional Disturbances. The book goes on to 23 chapters. There are other programs like this one with the same type of thinking.
Common sense isn't very common anymore. Acting like you're rich by having the toys, is faking it until you make it. Same as everything else. Acting confident by copying the behaviors of confident people, is also faking it until you make it.
I've been following a medical diet for decades, and my motivation is pain avoidance. Certain foods give me unpleasant symptoms. My internal reasoning is non-verbal, like he said. When I tried to join a support group and discuss the diet, all my good habits fell apart.
This explains why Meghan Markle (this causes the same effects as her narcissism does) keeps trying yet failing every time, the substance isn’t there *along with* other factors that prevent her from succeeding, like the fact that there’s no “product to sell” literally and figuratively. Some narcissists can gain money & fame due to others’ beliefs, but they have other things that go along with it like talent, etc.
I would be curious to know if you have come across, or have any experience regarding the buddhist practice of Jhana meditation? Where one gives up "hankering" for the world, being secluded from sensual desire (the input and association with the five senses), ill will, worry, sloth/torper and doubt, one dwells in jhana which has rapture (bliss) and happiness, felt within the body. Demonstrating that happiness being a physical sensation in the body, is experienced WITHOUT the need to accumulate anything, but as a result of "giving up" on the pressure of wanting. Quite a profound experience.
Wow, I cannot even understand. I am so laggy irritated right now that this is two years old very strange but I’m still thankful. I guess it’s right in time because I was kind of a bout to give up. It’s been a long time man dealing with this, you’re the only one that has any sense to him and it’s because you’re using your brain and wisdom and experience and I am so happy and thankful that somebody finally had the courage to do this. Thank you even though it’s two years old I can’t believe that shit but thank you anyway.
You put this beautifully and everyone needs to recognize and understand these concepts. If they could, our country and our future generation would be in a much better place then they are now! Fabulous video, as usual Chase! I often think this is the kind of important stuff that should be taught in K‐12. (And also some basics about managing your finances. 🙃) 💓
The cause blindness is discribed in Hindu mythology as साधन सुचिता means not just goal but method/methods to acheieve must be pure. Example Gandhiji When minor violance occurred during nonviolance movement, he stopped and taken aback
So the real cause of our messed up world is greed, corruption, lies, prejudice and ignorance? These are all moral/spiritual causes. For example, if there was a lot more truth, justice, and less corruption we wouldn’t have all these symptoms like misery, killing, hate and violence?? These positive values are a protection that will alleviate all those bad symptoms. But only if we choose to change our behavior both personally and collectively. It’s really that simple! Loved the talk! Also the difference between pleasures and happiness.

What I learned about brain chemicals when studying ADHD, depression, & addiction. Pleasure comes from immediate things, what dopamine does. Happiness comes from things that are not immediate but long term - what serotonin does.
And when we do too many things for pleasure, it can have a negative effect on our brains.
That is excellent !
Someone I know went 🤪
Including smartphone addiction.
Best explanation I’ve heard 🤌🏽
It was haphazard, but we became a "hardcore Montessori" family where we didn't have a tv and my children grew up
without toys made of plastic, anything primary colored, or printed with cartoon characters.
Great job!
you sure they're not just happy because they can watch tv now? 😂
@ That could very well be. They're happy humans either way, so it's a win for me ;)
Thanks for your comment.

This makes me emotional to hear. 🥲 May God bless you ❤

“Stop believing and start seeking.”
- and -
“Beliefs are confidence without clarity.” (he says this in the context of knowing from experience, vs believing).
Wow that's interesting. Hmm, yea it could shed some light on the plethora of lotto buyers i am continually stuck behind at the gas station. Lol.

Always being one who wants to make people feel better I always go to lectures in just my underware.

Another very often unseen cause, or ignored cause, is childhood experiences affecting us for the rest of our lives - addictions, depression, etc etc.

Morals are a perception. We've lost humanity
1, cause blindness - concentrating on a result so much you can't see what caused it
2, pleasure/happiness - not seeing the difference between short term pleasure and long -term happiness
Still worth watching.
Pleasure directs us to do more of whatever produced the pleasant result. It teaches us survival skills thru reinforcement of successful behaviors.
Sitting at the back of a traffic jam it is easier to concentrate on the cars you see in front of you but miss the reason why it happened.

So what was the cause of your eating disorders? 🤔 Now you've beaten them you should share your cause to help others! 😉
@@lizh1988 Yes, I understand, that's why I asked what was her cause!
"trillions to Ukraine"? ====math much? it's less than a quarter of one trillion. Makes me wonder what else you don't know.
I swear this is how it is like 100% in all politics and democrats are the main ones that always do this to themselves
Wow, your information is so good! I am old. I wish I had known these things when I was young. Still, at least I am learning them now. Thank you.
This is gold. Came across some of this before, took me ages to sift through noise. This is concise, together and in a sensible order. Thank you. Going to binge on the rest of your content, hopefully not falling into another dopamine cycle... :)
Loves the neuroscience behind this. Makes perfect logical sense. Off to download app
Yes yes yes! I am so glad you’re talking about this. I’m so happy to know I’m not the only one seeing that this is a huge problem in our society today.
Thank you Chase for your valuable inputs. I note however that my App Store for iPhone does not list your App ? yet? Very Grateful 🙏🏽
Thank you, Chase. Those thousand dots are already connecting, just watched this last night. Very helpful to understand.
Same concept as psychiatry being the only profession to “guess” at an appropriate prescription instead of understanding why the symptoms exist and treating accordingly… huge respect for you, Chase!
You can also thank the greedy drug companies for this approach.
Yes!!!!!
In my case, Rx were needed to help my brain focus on the causes. Without them, confusion and chaos reigned.
Ephesians 6:12
Exceptional video.
This is why I love critical thinking!
Thank you Chase. And thank you for the link! 💕
You help me understand myself and problems I deal with better than my therapist did. Thank you.
Yo, I’m so glad I stumbled upon this video! Valuable content! 💯💯💯
Amazing information.....checking out the FATE video right now! Thank you so much, Chase!
I actually talked to my kids about this a few years ago. "Having fun" is not the same as "being happy." Good things and bad things happen in life, but you can choose to be happy, regardless of what happens.
what a load of crock! I want to see you chosing to be happy at your child’s graveside. believe me, you have no choice!
@@deejayimm Or try to find that key to joy which is separate from depending on the right set of circumstances or people in your life because He is already there. It is NOT chemicals. It IS viewpoint you CAN change it. It IS relationship. Try the New Testament. Not to look for guilt/innocence. To see where to find joy, relationship outside of yourself that will heal and change that "set up" to be miserable. I was where you are talking about I found how to be free.
@@suzannehartmann946 Yea, you need to get out of church and go get a psych degree and work with the public. There are thousands and thousands of people who struggle just to be ok inside their head.
Yours is the same mentality behind people saying homosexuality is a choice.
As if you woke up one day when you were 13 and decided to be attracted to whoever you're attracted to.
Or that retardation isn't a natural anomaly that your God has always given people.
Some people have brains that do not correctly regulate emotions.
You were "blessed" with a mind that apparently does this fine, you just don't have any other perspective but that.
I agree mostly, with the person who says we can choose to be happy in life. There is a book that has helped me a lot, "A Guide to Rational Living." Albert Ellis, Robert Harper, 1961.
Chapter 1, How Far Can You Go With Self-therapy? 2. You Largely Feel the Way You Think. 3. Thinking Well by Thinking Straight. 4. How You Create Your Feeling. 5. Thinking Yourself Out of Emotional Disturbances.
The book goes on to 23 chapters. There are other programs like this one with the same type of thinking.
So glad this came back in me feed. I didn't get as much out of it the first time through. Much better for me this time. Awesome. Thank you
Why am I just finding this guy now?! This is amazing!
Ditto!
Thank you Chase for another powerfully insightful talk….changing the way we think and perceive the world and our lives 🙏🏽🌈❣️
Chase! You are a treasure. Thank you for sharing!
I just signed up for your app. I look forward to seeing what it’s all about. You’re a very intelligent man and I love your insights.
Thanks so much for ALL of your hard research and hard work! Excellent content!
Thanks for these inspiring and insightful videos. Always enjoy watching them! The world needs more teachers like you.
Chase, you are one of the most incredible people that have ever walked the earth. God bless you.
Fabulous video, as usual Chase! I often think this is the kind of important stuff that should be taught in K‐12. (And also some basics about managing your finances. 🙃) 💓
Your videos are ALWAYS informative n interesting but wow this one is exceptional . Thanks Chase. Im about to rewatch this one.

Under causes of wealth, don't overlook "a huge pile of money fell into my lap because I was born into a wealthy family."
...and don't overlook the fact that I had to learn real quick how to hold on to it because everyone else around me wanted it. Regards
The cause blindness is discribed in Hindu mythology as साधन सुचिता means not just goal but method/methods to acheieve must be pure.
Example Gandhiji
When minor violance occurred during nonviolance movement, he stopped and taken aback
Cause blindness is another way of saying control fraud. "When everything Americans believe is a lie, then our work will be done.". William J Casey
