I love how Kirk uses stuff most gear heads make fun of like Metal Zones and solid state amps but manages to sound heavy af while also having his own sound.
@@alexkelly8131 but his Pantera tones were so much better 😂 although i did read somewhere that they mixed some Pantera tracks with a Wizard tube amp to get some extra heaviness, but i dont know if thats true or not.
I was maybe 6 years old. Sneaking and watching Beavis and Butthead at my older cousins. All of the sudden Crowbar came on. Changed my life. I am now 39. Love ya Kirk.
This man is metal!!! Also super cool and easy going down to earth type of “rock star” if you know what I mean. I love that and see that so much in our Metal community…. The world needs to take note of the metal community. We get all the aggression out safely and peacefully in the music, lyrics and in the pits!! Long live metal
A Metal Zone as a boost for his sound. Man, that's a first! That pedal usually is the base rhythm sound for a lot of death metal bands. A very inventive way for Kirk to use that pedal, but if it works for him, then more power to him.
Kirk is such an inspiration to me! All tat matters to me is amazing heavy tone and he got it right like hardly anyone else has! No intricate bs, just tone and riffing. Now I feel bad about selling my Metal Zone... 😅
he understood everything to get his tone and thanks to him I was finally able to tame my metal zone afterwards I don't have a Randall amp yet, his riffs are just great
Besides Tony Iommi, Kirk Windstein is the maximum example of guitar player who make heaviest guitar tones and delivers riffs that rip the world. Total inspiration!!!
Love my Solar too brother. I got the a series also a white open pore swampash body . Its killer. Really like your solar its a beast . May end up getting that one.
Love these walk-throughs with no BS. I needed a boost in front of my distortion for the bass and applied the same thinking and tried the Boss ODB3 for clean boost. Works perfect!!
I met this gentleman 1 week ago in Chicago airport, I didn't know he was the lead singer and guitarist of a well known metal band (I know many metal bands but not his one), he actually approached me as he spotted my Kiss t-shirt from 2019 European tour: we had a nice chat, talking about metal music and other things. I wish him to best in everything
Kirk is not only a great musician but a killer dude. Crowbar has always been a favorite of mine. Them and Godflesh are my favorite metal acts of all time.
OK KIRK!!! But here me out... The Metal Zone EQ section is is such that you are actually changing the tone even by keeping the knobs at 12 o'clock. It's an active EQ that adds and takes away whatever frequency is also at the 12 o'clock position. I always heard about the Metal Zone for a Boost with no Dist and the EQ at 12.... But that is always doing something with the MZ EQ section. But, Sounds Great!
Met Kirk and Sexy T before a show in Sacramento in 2016. It was around 103°F outside where we were waiting to get in and they came out to hang. "This ain't nothin compared to NOLA heat" -Sexy T. Such cool and humble guys. They blew the damn roof off the place. Hope to see them again some day
This past April I really wanted to see Crowbar with COC and Sepultura but it was that or school. Hope I get another chance in the next couple years. What a show (caught their sets on UA-cam).
I have an old Metal Zone laying around so I decided to try out Kirk's technique. It actually sounds pretty good! Even with the the distortion knob turned all the way down, the Metal Zone still gives you a little bit of dirt on the signal. I haven't messed with it too much but I'm liking this so far. Thanks Kirk!
I love setups that don't stick to the traditional standards and still sound great. I probably play through my solid states at home more than my tube amps, I feel they give a better "bedroom" sound. Tube amps sound amazing also..
I watched this video right after a video of Sammy Duet talking about the Metal Zone. It's funny that Kirk hates the sound of that pedal, but it's what Acid Bath used back in the day. He did talk about using it as a clean boost when he was in Crowbar. As unique as a setup as it is, I remember everybody in New Orleans using either the Randall amp or the Ampeg VH140.
I had one of these Randall solid state heads back in the 90's and I couldn't get a usable tone out of it for anything. Our singer was friends with Jay Ceravello from Exhorder. He came to our practice room one night. He even said it sounded like crap. He turned me onto Dual Rectifiers.
Nothing fancy! I love it! He could be rockin expensive EVH or ENGL Amps but nope... No matter how many expensive tube amps I buy personally, I always love my Randall RH200 solid state Amp FAR more. It's very close to the RG100 series but more gain and channel knobs.
The first time I saw this dude on a stage, he was clean shaven and close to 300 pounds. I was 17 and had more beard than him LOL! “We’re the Slugs, we hope you fuckin’ hate us” were the first words I heard him say.
I always wonder how with such a low tuning as B or A standard on a guitar with a scale of 24.75" They get the correct intonation, especially on the E6 string?

One of the heaviest sounds imo.
Metal Zone is awesome 😎 😂, Dime used only solid state , Well as the saying goes it ain’t the equipment it’s whose using it 😂
@@danielbaugher826 dime used tube amps for damageplan

Met this guy last year on vacation. Talked for a while and he invited me and my family to lunch. What a great guy. None of that rockstar bullshit.
No shit?....goddamn,I'd love to meet him some day myself 🤘
Legend.
I know a lady who lives in the same town as me who is really good friends with his wife, it's a small world lol.
He’s a real one bro. Legend.
Kirk and his RG100ES’s. Literal riff legend.
I was maybe 6 years old. Sneaking and watching Beavis and Butthead at my older cousins. All of the sudden Crowbar came on. Changed my life. I am now 39. Love ya Kirk.
All I had I Gave 🤘
great guy, love kirk
It’s amazing how many musicians Kirk has influenced over the years. Myself included. Crowbar are criminally underrated and are still relevant today

Riff master
Simple rig yet so heavy. what a legend.
Kirk has no peers. Cheers to the sludge master. 💥
One of the heaviest riff writers out there. Devastating sound on album (haven’t seen them live). Love his no bs approach.
Kirk is the coolest riff lord around. Took a selfie with him at his merch booth at the showbox in Seattle a few years back
Big Kirk Windstein! One of the loveliest dudes ever. Robin, his partner Is an angel also. True king
Met him for a selfie after a show and he is just like that what you see is what you get super cool and by the way, a riff legend!!!!
BEAST...I've been a fan since a baby...My dad was a fan since 1990.
Some of best fret markers I've ever seen in a rig rundown. It makes sense.🤘👍🤘👍🤘

I am very happy to have met and briefly talked to Kirk Windstein before a show. An amazing musician.
Samesies. He's so chill🖤🤟
I love this man. Long may he reign.
No one can argue with this man’s crushing rhythm guitar tone.
Can't tell you how big of a crowbar fan I am all of Kirk's work is amazing
love everything about this guy's musicianship.👍👍
Kirk is such an inspiration to me! All tat matters to me is amazing heavy tone and he got it right like hardly anyone else has! No intricate bs, just tone and riffing.

Thanks, Kirk. I love how straightforward your rig is, man! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." 👍🏻
This was a great episode. Kirk is a legend. Such a good Riffer! He's the man.
I have two solar explorers one is a baritone and I love them. Those Randall heads are badass. Cool vid! 😎🤘
Gotta love Uncle Kirk. All Crowbar albums are amazing and make you head bang. Kirk is just straight up metal riffage all day.
he understood everything to get his tone and thanks to him I was finally able to tame my metal zone afterwards I don't have a Randall amp yet, his riffs are just great
What an awesome dude...Down to earth and willing to tell you everything you might want to know.....

Seen Down back in May, best show I've seen in a long time. Can't wait to see Crowbar when they come thru. Badass riffs.

Agreed, Kirk. That’s exactly how I would use the Metal Zone pedal. Your Solar sigs are awesome! 🎸🎸
Riff and simplicity LORD!
Good to see you! Nice Solar! My best to Mrs. W., see y’all in Houston !
I’d buy his signature in a heartbeat!
Looks dope. 😎

Very cool. Kirk's guitar tone is godly, he's got some nice Solars too
Fuck yea. Keep crushing it Kirk. Crowbar is the fucking shit. The best sludge/doom metal band of all time.
Surprised how bare it is. They sounded damn good live recently
Cool stuff
OLD SCHOOL COOL
Well now, I've learned what a Solar is. Thank you.

NOLA metal for life!!
Goddamn those Randalls are nostalgic AF!!
Beard of Doom, Horns up!

He’s the reason I use one with my Randall.

Cool setup
i looked into trying to get this guitar but seems it's not out yet
NONE HEAVIER
Holy shit, he gets that sound out of CLESTIONS and an Hm-2?!!!

how arent the strings super wobbly if he runs a .56 B string?
@@KzudemRiMFor my Crowbar guitar I run 10-52 set on an Explorer and works just fine. .56 is even stiffer I think that's what they use on 7 strings
Motorhead and Judas Priest tattooed on his skull... It doesn't get any more Metal than Kirk!!! 🤘
I have a Waza Craft Metal zone that is god tier in front of my Marshall Origin. Just have to know how to tweak it.
Even when he's not singing, Kirk still sounds like a hardcore cigarette smoker and gargles whiskey lol
I've known him since he was 15, he sounded like that even then 🤣🤣🤣
Because of his previous load of whiskey that he was digesting 🤫
Kirk and Jimmy are literal twins.
