Cheers for the reference. I don't know those last three songs as I only own two physical crowbar albums, time heals nothing and odd fellows rest, which is pure gold from intro to the end of that iron maiden cover (best cover of it too) Being poor I tend to stream music these days rather than buy, but I'll check those out.
Dimebag and this man right here completely changed the way I look at heavy music and riff writing. Kirk is a beast! When Crowbar self titled dropped, it changed my world! Hail the Riff Lord!🤘🏽⚜️
Agreed. Just like my buddy Pete Steele was an extremely underrated left - handed right handed bassist . Only musicians can see the unnoticed intricacies with each of them
I know what you mean especially songs like , existence is punishment, holding nothing, December's spawn, can't turn away from dying just to name a few so much emotion in the music and Kirk's playing.
Thank you Kirk, for every Crowbar release not to be a letdown... I'm amazed by the greatness of this band over and over again for all these years now and i hope it will stay that way until they lay me to rest!
Kirk with glasses on looks like Dumbledore. Now I'm imagining metal version of HP... Hagrid: "Harry, you're an electric wizard... " Sorting hat:"RIFFINDOR!" etc.
The fact he writes all of these riffs without any theory knowledge at all is pretty crazy. He says he doesn’t even know what a third or fifth is. All of these songs just come to him.
Iamnota Mushroom I just looked on Spotify to listen to this song and realized that the self titled album and Time Heals Nothing are both nowhere to be found. WHAT THE FUCK!!!
@@jakeybball Spotify is useless to me. I have every Crowbar album and many other albums, obscure or not obscure which often aren't even on spotify. I'm thankful I have all my albums on my PC whenever I need them.
Crowbar has so many killer riffs. I guess my favorite is the intro song on the "Odd Fellows Rest" albums. It's also the outro riff on On Frozen Ground off the same record. That riff is soooo heavy!!
After meeting Kirk in Boston....standing in line buying a crowbar shirt.....I was blown away by the show ....they killed it just like Corrosion of Conformity did.......30 year tour for Crowbar....25 years a listener.....Time Will Be The Only Factor
I also see other band logos on him. What looks like Trouble on one knee and St. Vitus on the other. Did anyone notice what looks like the razor blade from Priest's British Steel album cover on the back of his neck?
As someone who is learning to play guitar and bass mainly with Crowbar and Type O Negative songs, this is one of the best videos ever. My head burns while I'm trying to learn that 'Melvins-type' part in "To carry the load"
Kirk is THE man it's all this to been a fan since the beginning seen crowbar so many times I can't even remember his words truly have changed my life for the better through some really dark times
To carry the load is absolutely amazing.the outro riff when Kirk sings the last "don't kill it before it grows" is insane.i would go mental in the pit and I'm going on 43.
Kirk’s voice is still so stellar. I can’t believe after all these years he’s still able to sh his vox so well. Im not saying he’s an alien. But he’s an alien.
Man Kirk and Rodin have been good friends to my wife and I, hell of a guy and Robin is very kind! Thanks for dedicating planets to Nikki at the Nola show this past week! She will never forget it! See you at the next one !!
This cool man. I was outside the bus when this was goin on. Watched um walk out. Got on the rail and kirk gave me one his pics. COC was badass too. Great night
Great video, I learned a lot from this short video, it's always great to hear musicians you love talk about how they come about their riffs, it really helps musicians like myself get into a similar mindset.
Met Kirk twice, humble great dude....he pointed out we have the same Saint Vitus tat lol great time! Kirk is next in line after Iommi with greatest metal riffs!!
@@MrSprandik I didn't know that, thanks. I think John dyes his hair and beard then... It doesn't matter 'though, I like'em both, great players with their own different unique styles..
For anybody who’s curious.. I met him in person years ago, we drank blue and smoked hash in Toronto while he toured with Down. He didn’t have to acknowledge my existence and he was the nicest fucking guy on the planet and joked around with my very drunk ass like he knew me. They say you never want to meet your hero’s but Kirk is without a doubt an exception to the rule.
i love the fact that after speaking like he's inhaling smoke for 4 mins he coughs and says excuse me *must be southern hospitality* . GRANDPA METAL . i love him, i wish he was my lost uncle so bad
Remember Kirk playing the NOLA metal circuit when he was in Victorian Blitz back in the late 80s/early 90s. They used to play at a place called What's Up in Slidell about once a month.
Whenever I was out in New Orleans, occasionally I'd run into Kirk. He'd always say "What's up Peter Steele!?!" He nicknamed me Peter Steele because I am 6'7" and had jet black hair down to my ribcage at the time. Kirk is a genuine character and a really nice guy.
Kirk and Phil Anselmo both speak in Drop B
🤘🏻🤣
Very clever...
*b standard
👏👏😄 Brilliant. I'm stealing this line btw.
With a kiss of gravel...
you can tell how much he loves his craft just by the fact that the guy asking 1 question got us nearly 10 minutes of pure insight wholesome
Yeah, I agree. He is in love with music. A true musician.
Dude's so metal he's got an effects pedal on his voice
Stupid..
Dude, I laughed so hard. Thank you!
Holy shit 😂😂😂
He has the steve-o pedal

@@chrisproost7290 you're in for a treat. I'm a bit jealous to be honest. Kirk is awesome.
Criminally underrated guitarist! Not in terms of his technical ability but his creativity!
The riff lord.
Riff meister
Him and Dino Cazares are ridiculously underrated imo.
Bill Kelliher, Jerry Cantrell and Kirk Windstein are my all time riff writers ever. Kirk deserves more recognition!
@@jakeybball And Matt Pike.
Kirk looks like the interviewer's dad
I think he is lol
*Godfather 😂🙌
Everlasting dose is so deep almost 20 years later and this riff still gives me chills
Kirk is the sludge metal Santa Claus! Bringing all the good people some of the tastiest riffs this side of the North Pole!
NAILED IT!
You mean the side of the Bayou
Ol St. Riff
Polar opposites , But I agree

There's a variety of strong emotions in crowbars music!
I know what you mean especially songs like , existence is punishment, holding nothing, December's spawn, can't turn away from dying just to name a few so much emotion in the music and Kirk's playing.
Odd Fellows Rest. Smashed my face in then and still does now. Awesome album, awesome band, awesome Kirk.
Fuck yeah! In my opinion, their best album. The work of a genius.
Masterpiece

Hufflepuff would change to huffnpuff. Ravenclaw and slytherin are already pretty metal
I love Electric Wizard 🖤 Return trip is my theme song lol
Harry: im looking for a stone magnet.
Can we do a Part 2 with Kirk doing his favorite Down riffs? Because, Crowbar and Down.
Yes! This!!!!
Yes! THIS!!!!
There's some old videos of Kirk and Pepper doing Down riffs. Pretty killer!
Hell yea. Those two complimented each other so well
Dont forget kingdom of sorrow
Finally some actual metal on Loudwire
I got unreasonably angry when I saw an interview with Theory of a Deadman, yet underground bands in need of exposure get jackshit
The fact he writes all of these riffs without any theory knowledge at all is pretty crazy. He says he doesn’t even know what a third or fifth is. All of these songs just come to him.
Empty room, echo an eternity and embracing emptiness are some of their most badass songs!

He's like that cool Uncle that gives you your first joint
He's the guy your cool uncle looks up to, and probably gave your cool uncle his first joint.
That little beard shake from Kirk at 0:09 gives me life!
It is the Man equivalent of a Dog tail wag 😂
Kirk is so crucial! He has no idea how important his guitar playing is. Absolutley the king of heavy!
I agree with this...he is a total pioneer and i really dont think he even realises lol
Great video! Kirk is one of the nicest, down-to-earth guys I have ever met. His riffs frequently damage the soul. :)
ye
Finally!!!! Riff Lord
He actually played riffs unlike so many other guests.
None Heavier
Got to meet Kirk at a couple of different shows, super nice guy and loves the fans. I've been jamming Crowbar since the 90's.
@Vince Williamsthe emotion is what actualy makes it feel so heavy, none heavier than the almighty crowbar!
I love how raw this all sounds, simple yet so effective.
They only thing better than Kirk's riffs are his lyrics! Pure poetry.
I wanna go eat burgers and play guitar with Kirk. After went bass fishing in the morning in the bayou. Man this guy is awesome.
His Riff-ness, INDEED! All Bow DOWN, to the Riff Lord! |m| What a legend, man. Completely honest, laid back and chill. Kirk's the man.
Has he been buried in smoke?

So simple, yet SO HEAVY. Love it.
@4:38 "DON'T KILL IT BEFORE IT GROWWWS!!" Yeaaah! Tune low, play slow.
"Afraid to show it to the band because it was so melodic.." haha quality quote there, Kirk is the man
This perfectly highlights how immidiately recognizable a Crowbar riff is.
Is that a green Type O tattoo on his hand?
Hell yes!
Kirk is a huge Pete Steele(RIP) fan, of both Type O- and especially Carnivore.
Thank you for the Walk With Knowledge Wisely riff, LOVE IT!!! Thanks Robin for keeping quiet
love all crowbar and DOWN rifs...amazing
Fuck yes! Awesome to see Kirk here!
I liked this comment just because of your name. 🤟🏻
To Carry the Load, love it.
Walk with Knowledge Wisely. Totally sick song from top to bottom
I've seen Crowbar six times. I actually met my tattoo artist who is now a good friend of mine through Kirk.

Gotta love Kirk. Wonderful human being!
ive heard voices like this every time ive been to new orleans. something in the water down there.
Yea, it's called booze.
Will That Never Dies and My Agony are his best riffs as far as opening riffs.
To Build a Mountain got that riff that's energetic and funky af. Love it!

His upcoming second solo album absolutely melts faces.
