The live “Pulse concert” version of “Comfortably Numb” with the overextended guitar solo at the end is a must react for you guys. Widely considered the best guitar solo ever. Easy to find on UA-cam.

yeah the live shows add so much to the experience. I saw Roger's new "This is Not A Drill" and it was amazing. His intro into "Wish You Were Here" told a story about him and Syd that brought me to tears. So much emotion and subversion in this tour. His Wall Tour is amazing also. And yeah the Pulse one is great too.

Funny that Amber said she had a hard time picturing actual people making Pink Floyd's music, because when I first discovered them eons ago as a kid, I distinctly remember thinking, "This is so good I can't quite believe human beings made this". Very few other artists since, across all disciplines, have made me feel that way. Pink Floyd still does.

The album this was from (A Momentary Lapse of Reason, 1987) was the first album Pink Floyd did after Roger Waters left (following The Final Cut, 1983). That's at least part of why it sounds kind of different. The Momentary Lapse of Reason tour was also the first concert I ever went to. I've seen Pink Floyd twice, both times at Ohio Stadium, and each time was an absolutely transcendent experience. They're one of my all-time favorite bands and basically the soundtrack to my high school years in the '80s.

I saw them on the same tour, in Indianapolis. I was sitting in the front row of the upper level of the Hoosier Dome, and during "Learning to Fly" a very, very high college student in the crowd ran down from above us and swan-dived off the railing. He lived, but broke a lot of bones, and badly hurt the person he landed on. During the first half of the concert we watched the band and also the paramedics working fifty feet below us.

This song was actually inspired by the drummer Nick Mason taking pilot lessons. The other members of the band would be in the studio asking where's Nick? and the answer would often be "Oh, he's leaning to fly!" Never forget that the song comes first, and then someone get's hired to interpret it in a video.

"Yet Another Movie w/ Round and Around" is a hidden gem off from Delicate Sound of Thunder.
This song is a homage to "flight" as David Gilmour was actually learning to fly his own aircraft around that time. This song came out after the completion of Act 2 "The Pink Floyd". Roger was gone and the remainder of Floyd went on to turning into the greatest stadium rock band of all time. Adding that second drummer and second keyboardist really amplified their sound, culminating in the best live album of all time, Pulse...

Pink Floyd evolved over time. Of course, they had band members come and go, (Syd Barrett and Roger Waters, most notably), so I highly suggest that you follow their evolution from the Syd Barrett days, into the David Gilmour days, and finally, into the "Post Roger Waters days" (which this song is). "High Hopes" is one of my favorite PF songs, and it's from the "Post Roger Waters" era.
The music videos (which you guys usually do) always get a "Like" from me. I would really love to see you guys do the entire "Pink Floyd at Pompeii" DVD. They literally performed live for an audience that had been dead for nearly 2000 years. Such an amazing concert!
If nothing else, I have to recommend "Childhood's End", "Louder Than Words", and "Marooned" from the Post Roger Waters era. All of those are absolutely amazing!

FYI, a little background info on this song and it's meaning. The inspiration for the lyrics came about as David Gilmour was learning to fly at the time of the recording, often spending time in the air during the mornings before arriving at the studio in the afternoon. It has also been interpreted as a metaphor for beginning something new, experiencing a radical change in life, or, more specifically, Gilmour's feelings about striking out as the new leader of Pink Floyd after the departure of Roger Waters. Gilmour stated on Westwood One's Pink Floyd 25th Anniversary Special in 1992 that "we were, as Pink Floyd, learning to fly again." Also an avid pilot, drummer Nick Mason's voice can be heard at around the middle of the song.

This song was at least in part based upon David Gilmour’s passion for flying (he is a licensed pilot) and the middle part of the song has actual sounds sounds from the cockpit. 😉👍

Pink Floyd is my favorite group. I have been lucky enough to have attended 10 concerts, first one in 1972 with only 900 in attendance. Their shows were grand spectacles of lights and film and music surrounding you. The group rarely put themselves out as the biggest aspect of the show. There were shows so big they all melted into the background. There was a show in Cleveland where they asked for quiet as they did a sound check. A familiar sound came for the Quadrophonic sound amplifiers. It kept getting louder rolling through all areas of the stadium. Looking up a C-5 cargo plane was heading towards the stadium. You then realized that the sound was that of the aircraft and it buzzed the stadium. Everyone looked up and when you looked back down, they were on stage playing. Memorable. Someone mentioned watching selections from the PULSE show. These shows highlighted the wonder of their stage shows. By all means check it out. I especially like HIGH HOPES.

Amber: you "get" (totally embrace) Pink Floyd, so I would suggest you listen to some of their longer songs, like "Echoes" (23 minutes) off-camera, too long for you and Rob to do a reaction video. "Sheep" (10 min) and "Dogs" (17 min) also are worth a listen. Have you guys done their instrumental "One of These Days" yet?- if not, that would be a reaction video recommendation.

Can't believe you haven't seen them in a live performance yet. The Pulse concert (even without Roger Waters' contribution) is the best concert experience you may ever see; considering the combination of unsurpassed song writing, technical musicianship & visual effects. I echo Jason Sprecher's suggestions of "Comfortably Numb" and "Sorrow" as a great sampling from the historic 1994 show.

Pink Floyd to me, have always been one of the few bands very capable of transmitting a message that is so often read in so many different ways, depending on your heritage, state of mind, background, life experiences, friends you hang out with etc. They are without doubt one of the "superior intellect" bands of all time as they have an innate ability to make us question and contemplate, and they so often take us on a journey we never imagined we would ever take. Incredible band, and yes, "Comfortably Numb" from Pulse is a MUST for your reaction.

Definitely an aviation theme. The part with the eagle was the metaphor for man taking flight. This was after Roger Waters, so it kinda shows that David Gilmore was a creative driving force all along. And even if you heard this without any prior knowledge, you’d still know it was Pink Floyd when he started riffing and soloing that guitar. There’s just nothing else like it.

After a near breakup in the 80s, this version of PF emerged in the 90s without bassist Roger Waters. Waters was the primary song writer for the band in the 70s and early 80s from Dark side of the moon to The Wall. Its a different sound and softer vibe but with the David Gilmore guitar and vocals it's still Pink Floyd. Their stage show was also fantastic. I recommend "On The Turning Away" from this era. Preferably the live Remastered version

While the band was writing the songs for their album David Gilmour (the lead singer, guitarist) was constantly leaving the studio. When he was asked where he was going his reply was "to the airport, I am learning to fly". I am a pilot and the lyric "suspended animation, a state of bliss" is how I feel when I am flying.

I"m getting a huge kick out of seeing y'alls reaction to so much of the music that I grew up with. Over the past year or so that y'all have being doing these reactions, you've got to hear some really great music that will undoubtedly continue to sound great far into the future.
As far as "Pink Floyd" is concerned, what can be said about them that hasn't already been said? They created some of the most beautiful, avant garde music that our ears have ever heard. Sure, there is a fair measure of psychedelia in their compositions, but there are many other pieces that are straight forward and relatable life lessons set to music.
I highly recommend "Coming Back to Life" from the "Division Bell" album. As you already know, David Gilmour is one of the greatest guitarist of all time in regard to highly melodic, emotionally moving compositions. The guitar intro on "Coming Back to Life" is utterly beautiful, and sets the stage for what's to come. I know you won't be disappointed.
Lastly, I know y'all have come to love a lot of the "Classic Rock" stuff from the 70's and 80's, and trust me, there is still a lot more! I would also like to suggest y'all listen to (and react to) "Do You Feel Like We Do" from Peter Frampton's 1975 album "Frampton Comes Alive". This song features an incredible guitar solo, which includes a segment where Peter uses a Heil "Talk Box", which was a relatively new technology back in that era. You've already heard this same effect on the song "Rocky Mountain Way" by Joe Walsh, and also by Pink Floyd's guitarist David Glimour on "Pigs, Three Different Ones". Peter Frampton actually uses the Heil "talk box" to speak and sing through his guitar. I am sure you will be impressed by his phenomenal musicianship! Keep on Rockin!!!

The video did very well on MTV, earning a Video Music Award for Best Concept Video, the only VMA of their career. There is some band footage in the clip, but not much. To most of the MTV generation, Pink Floyd remained faceless.
But for the true Pink Floyd concert experience (as everyone has said) you MUST watch the "Comfortably Numb" live Pulse performance. It may be one of the best live rock performances in history. You need to do it today or tomorrow (and if not) do it soon.

My first electric guitar was/is a Peavey that looks very much like the one David Gilmore was playing in this video. My pedal board looks suspiciously like his as well. To say that Floyd had an influence on my playing style may be an understatement.
